Ruby L. Shifflet Parker
Ruby L. Shifflet Parker, 70, of Rainelle, West Virginia died December 14, 2005 in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA following a long illness.
She was born October 13, 1935 in Gilmer County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late James and Ruby Leo Kynnersley Shifflet.
Also preceding her in death were her husbands Charles Douglas and John C. Parker.
She was a member of the Sturgen Branch Baptist Church in Rainelle, WV and a retired food service worker, having worked in several different restaurants. She loved to sew and work crossword puzzles.
2 sons Lawrance Glenn of Kansas City, KS and Arthur Barkeloo of Sarasota, FL survive her; 4 daughters Janelle Thaxton of Wildwood, FL, Teresa Glenn address unknown, Locie Compton of Wildwood, FL, and Charl-lynne Berry of Rainelle, WV; and 1 sister Irene of Kansas City, KS. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 18, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV with Rev. Benny Kenny officiating. Burial was in the Bug Ridge Cemetery, Sutton, WV.

Cary L. Stump
Cary L. Stump, 70, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Buckhannon, WV. He was born on November 12, 1935 in Gassaway to Olen Stump and Reta Whisman Stump.
Preceding him in death were his father Olen and his first wife Alice.
He was a Construction Worker and a member of the Conerstone Assembly of God. He was a devoted husband and dad, he loved fishing, camping, hunting, being outdoors and spending time with grandsons.
Surviving are mother, Reta Whisman Stump of Flatwoods, WV; wife, Kay (Riffle) Stump of Buckhannon, WV; daughter, Alma and husband Don Flint of Sutton, WV; son, Olen and &wife Robin Stump of Buckhannon, WV; granddaughter, Jessica Flint of Redford, MI; granddaughter Mandy Lockard of Belleville, MI. grandson Ryan Stump of Buckhannon, WV; brother, George & wife Debbie Stump of Greensburg, PA; step daughter, Becky & husband Bobby Conrad of Orlando, WV; step daughter, Lisa & husband Scott Stout of Orlando, WV; step grandson, Joshua Conrad of Orlando, WV, step grandson, Tyler Stout of Orlando, WV. Niece, Heather Ochaleck of Lithia, FL, niece, Holly Stump of Salisbury, NC.

Nina Burroughs
Nina Burroughs, 80 of Heaters, WV of the Lake Lane Community died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at her home.
She was born July 2, 1925 in Roanoke, WV to the late Jessie and Ellabelle McClain Riffle. Also preceding her in death was her husband James Harold Burroughs, they were married on July 8, 1949 and he died on November 3, 1996. and 2 brothers and one sister.
Surviving is one sister, Flora Renshaw of Pierpont, OH and one brother, Paul Riffle of Walkersville, WV, also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Burroughs was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church.
Services were held Saturday, December 17, 2005 at 11:00am at the Alkire Funeral Home, Rev. Ressie Robison officiated. Interment at McCutchan Chapel.
Alkire Funeral Chapel of Ireland was in charge of the arrangements for Nina Burroughs.
Granville Lane Ratliff
Granville Lane Ratliff, 59, of Orlando, WV, died Friday, December 16, 2005, in the United Hospital Center at Clarksburg, WV, after a short illness.
He was born August 18, 1946, in Braxton County, West Virginia, a son of the late Ben Ratliff and Ollie Mae Conrad Ratliff. Lane was also preceded in death by 2 sons, 3 brothers & 1 sister. He was a Baptist by faith and a disabled construction lineman.
He is survived by his loving wife Twanda Cogar Ratliff, daughters: Susie Thayer & husband Randy & Tonia Wymer & husband David all of Orlando, WV & Leslie Jo Hickman & husband Marvin of Dusk Camp, WV, sister: Virginia Conley of Heaters, WV, brothers: Alva Ratliff, Tom Ratliff, Dick Ratliff all of Orlando, WV, Robert Conrad of Ohio, brother at heart: Gary Riffle and grandchildren: Britany Thayer, Brad Myers, Nycole Wymer, Nicholas Wymer, Scott Hickman, Desirae Hickman & Kassy Layne Hickman.

Elsie Gay Ratliff
Elsie Gay Ratliff, 90, of Burnsville, WV, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at home after a short illness.
She was born Sept. 8, 1915, at Long Run, WV, a daughter of the late Mack Ratliff & Alice Graff Ratliff. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers & 4 sisters. Gay was a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughters: Shirley Allen & husband Marvin of Burnsville, WV & Linda Rylander & husband Jim of Enterprize, Utah, her son: Buck Ratliff of Gassaway, WV, her sisiters: Ada Wiant & Jean Allen both of Burnsville, WV & Lillie Garvey of Maryland, her brother: James Ratliff of Heaters, WV and 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home with Rev. Delmas Singleton officiating. Burial followed in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens at Heaters, WV. Friends called one hour prior to the 11 AM funeral hour at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home at Flatwoods, WV.
Jack "Buddy" Miller
Jack “Buddy” Miller, 65, of Gregory, WV, died suddenly of heart failure on Dec. 26, 2005.
He was born August 15, 1939, in Kingsport, Tennessee, the only son of the late Jack H. Miller, Sr. & Nancy Bradshaw Miller. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy was a retired draftsman.
He is survived by his mother Nancy E. Miller of New Jersey His sisters Sally Murphy, Anne Pecan, Cathy Collins all of New Jersey and Pamela Leonard of Delaware, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews and his constant K-9 companions, Sheila, Terror & Boy. He was a dedicated, loving son, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mark Charles Lockard
Mark Charles Lockard, 38, of Exchange, WV, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 in Lewis County while hunting . He was born Nov. 27, 1967, at Gassaway, WV, a son of Clara Burke Lockard of Exchange and the late Romie Lockard. Mark was also preceded in death by his sister Mary Ellen Tanner & his brother Don Lockard. He was a former utility pole treater for Osmose Wood Preserving and also worked as a rest area attendent.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Loudermilk Lockard & son, Mark Charles Lockard, Jr., both at home; sister, Linda Flint of Burnsville, WV; brothers: Roy Lockard, Carl “Nick” Lockard & Robert “Bo” Lockard all of Exchange, WV, Earl Lockard of Absorokee, Montana & David Lockard of Marine City, Michigan.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Monday, January 2, 2006 at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home with Rev. William E. Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at the Bragg Cemetery at Exchange, WV. Friends may call from 11 AM on Monday until the 1 PM funeral hour.
Elizabeth Dawn Mills
Elizabeth Dawn Mills, infant daughter of Erica Alison Hinson and Jeffrey David “Bald-headed Jeff” Mills of Sutton, formerly of Akron, OH, died December 25, 2005.
She was born November 21, 2005 at Weston.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is survived be half brothers, Anthony and Cody; maternal grandmother, JoAnn Kirkhart of California; maternal grandfather and his wife, Raymond and Mary Sanders of Akron, Ohio; paternal grandparents, John and Michelle Mills of Akron, Ohio; maternal uncles and an aunt, Bradley, Brett and Courtney; and paternal uncles and an aunt, John Wayne Mills Jr., Michael Dwight Mills, and Dawn Marie Mills, all of Akron, Ohio.
Service was held at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 30 at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with the Rev. Randy Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Shaver Cemetery, Exchange.

Martin Toler Jr.
Martin Toler Jr., 51, entered into his heavenly home on January 2, 2006 due to a mining accident. Born January 22, 1954, he was the son of the late Martin and Ethel (Cline) Toler of Cyclone, WV.
Jr. was a 1971 graduate of Oceana High School. He was 30+ years of experience in the mining industry. Jr. was a devoted Christian, a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Adult Bible Study teacher at Stump Chapel Church at Telsa, WV. He was a doting and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved life to its fullest and was a strong witness and blessing to all that knew him. His final message was “Tell all I will see them on the other side.”
In addition to his parents, Jr. was preceded in death by six brothers: Elliott Lee, William (Bill), Edmond, Charles (Buzz), A.W. (Upie), and Harris Toler.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Lou Russell Toler of Flatwoods, one son, Chris Toler and his wife Jennifer of Flatwoods; one daughter Courtney Browning and her husband Brandon of Flatwoods; and a special nephew George Toler and his wife Crissy, also of Flatwoods; six grandchildren, Lindsey and Natalie Toler, Chase and Cole Browning, and Drew and Abbey Toler, all of Flatwoods; four brothers Tom Toler and wife Karen of Summersville, Millard Toler and wife Elizabeth of Davin, WV, David Toler and wife Sue of Little Birch, Dean Toler and wife Patti of Exchange; one sister Ruby (Sis) Haught and Tony of Cyclone; mother-in-law Madge Cook Russell of Flatwoods, father-in-law Ralph Russell and wife Lois of Matheny; sisters-in-law Margie J. Toler of Flatwoods, and Jaunita Toler of Cyclone. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Braxton County Armory in Gassaway, with Rev. Marvin Given and Rev. Earl Elliott officiating. Burial was in the Braxton County Cemetery on Airport Road, Sutton, WV.

Mary Pauline "Polly" Cutlip
Mary Pauline “Polly” Cutlip, 76, of Sutton, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at her residence. She was born January 6, 1929 to the late Ira Anthem and Lovie Maude “Bell” Cogar.
She was a homemaker and attended Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church. Preceded in death be her parents and husband, Harry M. Cutlip, and brothers Thurman and Richard Cogar.
She is survived be 5 sons, Ralph and Johnnie Cutlip, both of Sutton, Gerald Cutlip of Mantua, OH, Ernest Lipps of Gassaway, and Ed Cutlip of Martinsburg, WV; 3 daughters, Brenda Nettles of Strange Creek, and Wilda Skidmore and Linda Nettles, both of Sutton; and 3 sisters, Macel Dailey of Martinsburg, WV, Flossie Frame and Shirley Westfall, both of Sutton; Also surviving are grandsons Adam Collins and Jacob Marshall and several other grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Elder Hubert Sears and Deacon Brad Nettles officiating. Burial was is the Braxton County Cemetery, Airport Road, near Sutton.
