W.D. Owen Williams
TOWN OF GENESEE - Lifelong Waukesha resident W.D. Owen Williams, 88, died Aug. 31, 2000, at his residence. He was born Dec. 31, 1911, in Waukesha to the late William and Annie (nee Thomas) Williams. Mr. Williams lived and farmed his entire life on the family farm, "MaesMawr," which dates back to the 1860s. He had been a charter member of Zion Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday school, Bible study and was a member of Mariners of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Waukesha High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He will be remembered as a man of history and knowledge.
On Dec. 26, 1964, he married
the former Maurine Paas, who preceded him in death on June 8, 1996. Mrs. Williams had been dean of women and professor in the Department of Religion and Education at Carroll College for many years. Mr. Williams is lovingly survived by cousins and many close friends. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Souter.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 5, at Zion Presbyterian Church, N13-W28771 Highway G (Silvernail Road), town of Delafield. The Rev. Al Nichols will officiate. The family will greet friends at a reception at the church dining room following the funeral service. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Jerusalem cemetery in Wales. Virginia May Gardinier
WAUKESHA - Virginia May Gardinier, 79, died Monday, September 4, 2000, at LindenGrove Health Care Center. She was born March 5, 1921, in Lake Koshkonong to Lewis and Evelyn (nee Hammes) Crandell. Mrs. Gardinier was employed for 27 years as secretary at Waukesha County Coroner’s Office, retiring in 1983, and was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ for over 20 years. She was married
to Frank Gardinier for 50 years, he preceded her in death in 1991.
She is survived by her brother, Lewis "Bud" (Phyllis) Crandall of South Beloit, Ill., and her sister, Jean Scrima of Waukesha. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances and Olive.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., with a Service of Remembrance at 6 p.m. The Rev. David A. Switzer is officiating. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Prairie Home cemetery.

Ronald J. Kelly
MUSKEGO- Ronald J. Kelly, 50, of Muskego, formerly of Davenport and Worthington, Iowa, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in Rochester, Minn., after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was born Sept. 26, 1949, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Urban and Mary (nee Skahill) Kelly. Ron graduated from Beckman High School, received a degree in business and economics at Loras College in Dubuque and received his master’s degree at Goddard College in Vermont. He married
Dawn Renee Gunderson in Davenport on Oct. 14, 1989. He was a general contractor and owner of Natural Energy in Davenport until he moved to Muskego in 1997. Ron, with his business partner and friend, Tad (Fritz) White, designed the first totally energy-independent building in Iowa. Senator John Culver of Iowa entered their business, Natural Energy Inc., in the Congressional Record for excellence in energy conservation. Mr. Kelly was invited by the International Solar Energy Association to present the natural energy building design/operation at the 1985 International Convention in China.
Ron served in the U.S. Army during 1970 and 1971 in Vietnam, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. His favorite activity was spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn; his daughter, Laura; his son, Thomas; one brother, Stephen (Jody) Kelly of Fort Atkinson; and three sisters, Janet (Wayne) Mormann of Dyersville, Iowa, Nancy (Mike) Ouverson of Worthington and Debra Kelly of Davenport. Also surviving are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ronald and Beverly Gunderson, formerly of Davenport. Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 6, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, with burial in St. Paul cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Ed Petty, and pallbearers will be Wayne Mormann, John McCormack, Mike Ouverson, Tad White, Steve Schultz and Keith Hagge.
A Ronald Kelly Memorial Fund has been established.

Sally A. Turkoski
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. - Sally A. Turkoski (nee Hagstrom), formerly of Waukesha, was born to eternal life Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at the age of 73.
She was the loving wife of William; dear mother of Carrie of Rockledge, Fla., and William Steve (Kathy) of Slocum, Ala.; and sister of Ella Irene Tennis and William (Nancy) Hagstrom of Oconomowoc. She is also survived by two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Betty (Robert) Edwards of Waukesha. She was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and Ruth Hagstrom; her son, Mathew; and her brother, Jack Hagstrom.
A memorial service was held Aug. 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockledge; the Rev. Jeff Marquardt was the officiant.

Martha Mabel Karrow
HARTLAND - Martha Mabel Karrow (nee Schultz) was born in Cooperstown Township on June 11, 1910, and educated in the Denmark, Wisconsin public schools. She moved with her mother to Milwaukee in 1925 and completed her schooling at the Milwaukee Vocational High School. She was employed as a switchboard operator at the Republican Hotel in Milwaukee where she met her husband, Robert W. Karrow Sr. They married
in March of 1936 and moved to Madison, where she worked for Kroger Co. They later lived in Waukesha and Milwaukee, moving in 1946 to Hartland where they made their home for 53 years.
Martha was a homemaker and for many years worked in the hot lunch program at the Hartland Grade School. Her hobbies were sewing, needlework, crafts, miniatures, opera and reading. She was wonderfully creative and her family and friends delighted in gifts, like delicate Christmas tree ornaments made from eggshells. She made loving models of rooms in her home in Hartland and her childhood home, as well as miniature facades of all her family’s homes. At the time of her death, she was hard at work crocheting an afghan. She had a sweet disposition and was unfailingly kind and open-minded. Martha celebrated her 90th birthday in June and passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000.
She is survived by her Robert, her husband of 64 years; her children, Robert Jr. and Betty Vandervest; her daughter-in-law, Lee Karrow; her son-in-law, Roger Vandervest; her grandchildren, Katie and David Karrow and Alex and Emma Vandervest; her beloved cousins, Alvin Enz, Myra DiDio, Lucille Laverenz, Carl Schultz, Dorothy Tripp, Sylvia Chilar and Clara Vraney; nine nieces and nephews and many friends. Martha had been an active member of First Church of Christ Scientist in Waukesha for many years. For the past year-and-a-half she had been a resident of Holley Court Terrace in Oak Park, Ill.
Memorial services will for Martha will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 8, at Luko-Evert Funeral Home, 170 Warren Ave., Hartland. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Hartland Village cemetery.

Richard A. Manley
PEWAUKEE - Richard A. Manley, of Pewaukee, was born to eternal life Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at the age of 64.
He was the beloved husband of Joan (nee Leary) for 27 years; loving father of Lisa (Tom) Migdal of Pewaukee, Laurie (Paul) Ottman of Pewaukee and Diane Drefahl of Pewaukee; proud grandfather of Jamie and Matthew Ottman; very special uncle to Chuck (Rie) Manley of Helensville; dear brother to Raymond (Sue) Manley of Seattle, Wash., Jane (Bill) Pontel of Pewaukee and Joann (Duke) Reszczynski of Hartland; and fond brother-in-law of Evelyn Manley of Buckeye, Ariz. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
His parents, Edward and Hazel Manley; his brothers, Charles and Louis Manley; and his sister-in-law, Janice Manley, preceded him in death.
Richard was retired from the maintenance department of the Elmbrook School System. In his spare time he loved to repair small engines and also enjoyed woodworking.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Yonke & Son Funeral Home in Pewaukee; the Rev. William McBride officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Arlene B. Buth
DOUSMAN - Arlene B. Buth, 88, of Dousman, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at River Hills West in Pewaukee. She was born in Sullivan on June 27, 1912, the daughter of Jay Longley and Jessie Tinus. On June 13, 1936, she married
Arnold Buth in Sullivan.
Arlene was an elementary school teacher at Golden Lake School. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sullivan and St. John’s Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Ann) Buth of Ephriam and Ruth Ann (Richard "Gus") Nehls of the town of Summit; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arnold.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sullivan. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.; the Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church cemetery.

EAGLE - Debra L. Couch (nee Kugel), 42, of Eagle, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Racine on May 17, 1958, to Carol and Melvin Kugel. She graduated from Palmyra-Eagle High School in 1976 and was a member of the Eagle United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her three children, Jason Couch, Steven Szymkowski and Samantha Szymkowski, all of Eagle; her parents, Carol and Melvin Kugel of Eagle; her sister, Cheryl Lang of Troy; her brothers, Rick (Lori) Kugel of Eagle and Scott (Bonnie) Kugel of Palmyra; and her grandmother, Anna Kugel of Eagle. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Palmyra Methodist Church, 122 N. Fifth St., Palmyra. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the church and from 1 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church. Officiating is the Rev. Bill Busch and the Rev. Jerry Lipka. Burial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the chapel at West Lawn Memorial Park in Racine. Friends may call at the chapel from 10 a.m. until the time of the burial services.

Donald Koppein
ELKHORN - Donald Koppein, 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Lakeland Nursing Home in Elkhorn. He was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Red Oak, Ill., the son of Arthur and Florence Koppein. Donald married
Betty Meadows on June 20, 1934. She preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 1996.
Donald had formerly been employed at the Delzer Lithograph Company in Waukesha and also at the U.S. Printing Company in St. Charles, Ill., from 1965 until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Elkhorn Community Church.
Donald is survived by his daughters, Lorrie Koppein of Madison and Mary Jo (Alan) Johnson of Appleton; his sons, Richard (Phyllis) Koppein of Florence, S.C., and David (Karen) Koppein of Waukesha; seven grandchildren; and his sisters, Vivian Lounsbury of Geneva, Ill., Betty Key of Elkhorn and Nancy Kilpin of Burlington.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Betts Funeral Home, 103 E. Rockwell St., Elkhorn, with the Rev. Robert Peiffer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oak Ridge cemetery in East Troy.

Peggy J. Piedot
WAUKESHA - Peggy J. Piedot (nee Burton), 38, of Waukesha, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was born in Eagle on Oct. 7, 1961, to Thomas and Mary (nee Zupfer) Burton. She graduated from Palmyra High School.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her stepsons, Ryan and Robert; her father, Thomas (Darlene) Burton of Eagle; her brother, Jeffrey Burton of East Troy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary, and her sister, Brenda.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Mealy’s Funeral Home, 103 Eagle St., Eagle. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the services Monday. Burial will be at Melendy’s Prairie cemetery in Eagle.

Kathrine A. Teuteberg
WAUKESHA - Kathrine A. Teuteberg (nee Brunette) of Waukesha, found peace Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at the age of 44. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Brunette.
She was the loved wife of Curtis for eight years; beloved mother of Daniel Italiano and Eric Herrmann; precious daughter of Lorretta Brunette; cherished granddaughter of Harry and Oleta Lartz; and dear sister of Terry, Chuck, Mark, Steve, Mike, Val and Dede. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held after noon Saturday, Sept. 9, at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1941 Madison St., Waukesha. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m.

Dr. Janine Krauss
BROOKFIELD - Dr. Janine Krauss (nee Bitton), professor of French at Carroll College for over 25 years and the beloved wife of Siegfried Krauss, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at the age of 68.
She was born and raised in France. She came as a young woman to New York and worked in Manhattan as a bilingual secretary while continuing her higher education. She came to teach French at Marquette University in 1967 where she met her husband, Siegfried Krauss. She started teaching at Carroll College in 1969 and received her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
She was an excellent teacher who immersed her students in both the French language and culture. She also was a scholar and wrote books and research papers that are used today in universities around the world.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in the Humphrey Memorial Chapel at Carroll College on East Avenue in Waukesha. The chapel will be open at 4 p.m.

Averil Elaine Sasso
SUN CITY, Ariz. - Averil Elaine Sasso (nee Hallstrand) passed away on Sept. 4, 2000, in Sun City, Ariz. Paul Sasso, her husband of over 49 years, and her children were at her side. Averil was born in Ogema on May 27, 1932. She lived with her parents, Axel and Elsie Hallstrand, in Ogema, Prentice and Green Bay prior to moving to Waukesha. Her mother passed away when Averil was 18 years old. Her father later married
Ethel Krueger and they lived together in Phillips until his death in 1989.
Averil graduated from Waukesha High School in 1950. She was an excellent student in high school and was the vice president of the National Honor Society. She was also active in student council, a cappella choir, drama and athletics. On July 28, 1951, Averil married
Paul Phillip Sasso at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Waukesha. In January 1994 they moved to Sun City. Averil and Paul had two children; Paula Jean, an administrative assistant at Aurora Health Care in Racine and Phillip David, a partner in a San Francisco law firm.
Averil was the perfect wife and mother in the mold of "Donna Reed." She was a natural beauty who, despite working a full-time job, always found the time to maintain a meticulous house, cook scrumptious dinners and help her children with their studies. Averil was always very creative and energetic. She loved to paint, garden, sing and play the piano. Several of Averil’s paintings are displayed in the homes of her family. Her Christmas trees and holiday decorations were always magazine quality. She also enjoyed bowling and golf. Ever the political activist, Averil often wrote letters to elected officials on both local and national issues.
A memorial service was held on Sept. 7 at the Shepard of the Desert Lutheran Church in Sun City. Averil is survived by her stepmother, Ethel; her husband, Paul; her daughter, Paula (husband Ron, daughter Stephanie Anne and grandson Carson James), and her son, Phillip. She is also survived by her half-brothers, Carl (wife Delores and daughter Marilyn) and William Ohrstrom (wife Jackie and children Scott and Terry); step-brother, Bert Krueger and stepsisters, Shirley Hamilton (husband Joe) and Karen Dingeldien (husband Dennis and children Shaun, Jason and Adam); sisters-in-law Mary Wisnieski, Mamie Caracci (husband Lawrence and son Larry) and Nettie Caracci (husband Louie and children Karen and Louie Jr.); brother-in-law, Joseph Sasso (daughter Mickie); and many other family members and friends.
Russell, Atty. James L. "Jim"
WEST ALLIS and MENOMONEE FALLS - Atty. James L. "Jim" Russell found peace with the Lord on Sept. 9, 2000. He was the loving father of James F. (Lourdes) Russell and the loving grandfather of Jane Marie and LeAnne. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, Danby-Russell, his parents Joseph E. and Ellen (Nellie) and all of his brothers and sisters.
Jim was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Marquette University Law School , a veteran of World War II and practiced law in West Allis.
Special thanks to Tom and Harriet Russell, Margaret Fay, Ellen and Abbas Fadel and their families, the nursing staff at the Arboretum and Community Memorial Hospital for their wonderful support.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11 until the time of Mass at 6 p.m. at St. Therese Chapel (lower church) Holy Hill, Town of Erin. Private interment will be held Tuesday, Sept. 12.
