BROOKFIELD - JoEllen Merlet of Brookfield was born to eternal life Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at the age of 48. She was the beloved wife of Jerry Merlet; dear mom and best friend of Megan M. Mahoney; dear stepmom of Lori (John) Seibel and Bryan (fiancŽ Jenny Whelply) Merlet; beloved daughter of Jim and Henrietta Brehm; cherished sister of Barbara (Rusty) Rose and Jill (Jamie) George; daughter-in-law of Edith and the late Carroll Merlet; special grandma of Logan Seibel; and the loving aunt of Jessica and Jimmy Taylor, Alex and Lillian George and Katie Rose. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of services at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at Brookfield Lutheran Church, 18500 West Burleigh Road. Interment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

Memorials are suggested to Brookfield Lutheran Church.

JoEllen was employed by Firstar Information Systems Corporation. She celebrated life spending time with her family and friends, tending to her flower garden, golfing and enjoying special times in Door County.

Louise D. Stoltz
PEWAUKEE - Louise D. Stoltz of Pewaukee was born to eternal life on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at the age of 80.

She was the loving mother of Robert Stoltz of Pewaukee and Dottie (Greg) Delander of Delafield. She was the proud grandmother of Kristin and Kessia Stoltz and Molly and Jack Delander. Louise was the dear sister of Thomas (Nancy) Gettelman of Brookfield and Helen (Richard) Mueller of Oshkosh. Her husband, John, her brother, Fred Gettelman, and her sister-in-law, Marge Gettelman, preceded Louise in death.

Louise was an avid bird-watcher and bridge player, belonging to numerous area bridge clubs. She was an active alumnus of Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Louise was a member of the Pewaukee Yacht Club Main Stays, the Pewaukee Historical Society, the Pewaukee Women’s Club and Queen of Apostles Catholic Church. She belonged to the Hawks Inn Historical Society in Delafield, having run the gift shop for over 25 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, N35-W23360 W. Capitol Drive, Pewaukee. Father Michael Grellinger will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Memorials in Louise’s name to the Pewaukee Historical Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Joanne Terry
MILWAUKEE - Joanne Terry, of Milwaukee, died suddenly on Saturday morning, Aug. 19, 2000, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital at the age of 69.

Joanne was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Milwaukee and the church’s Christ Care group. She enjoyed quilting and painting.

She is the beloved wife of 45 years of Irwin C. Terry and the dear mother of Jean Erickson of Wausau, Anne (Ken) Stagg and Irwin J. Terry, both of Minneapolis, Minn., and Charles A. Terry of Milwaukee. She is the dear sister of Frances (Robert) Bareta of Milwaukee, Richard (Mary) Savatski of Lebanon, John (Darlene) Savatski of Milwaukee, and Daniel (Charlotte) Savatski of Hartland. She is the dear grandmother of Thomas Stagg, Andrea Erickson and Jonothan Stagg. Also surviving are other relatives and frineds.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. today, Aug. 21, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 9525 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee. Father Phillip Reifenberg will celebrate Mass. Friends may call at the church today from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at St. Peter & Paul cemetery in Duplainville.

Memorials would be appreciated to either St. Therese Catholic Church or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.

Charles Dennis Barta
CECIL - Charles Dennis Barta of Cecil, formerly of Burlington, Waterford and Waukesha, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Shawano Medical Center at the age of 77. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Dec. 18, 1922, the son of Charles and Nellis (nee McCarthy) Barta. His early life was spent in Cedar Rapids and in Burlington, where he graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1941. Charles also attended Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Charles served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater. In May of 1955, he married Marcella Eisenbart in DePere; she preceded him in death Dec. 21, 1976. On March 19, 1988, he married Diane Anderson in Waterford. Charles was self-employed as a real estate appraiser for 30 years and was formerly an assessor for the city of Waukesha.

Charles was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cecil and member of the Western Bohemian Fraternal Organization. He enjoyed traveling, casinos, winning football pools and spending time with his family and friends.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Diane Anderson of Cecil; his daughter, Mary Jo (Kevin) Dunn of Brookfield; his sons, Jeffrey (Joette) Barta of Waukesha, Mark (Lisa) Anderson of Kenosha, Brian Anderson of Lake Geneva and Eric Anderson of Lake Geneva; his sisters, Betty (Don) Pieters of DePere and Marion (Gene) Mehring of Orland Park, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Casey Barta, Alex Barta, Drea Barta, Megan Anderson, Mandy Anderson and Grace Dunn. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella, and his son, Timothy.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Charles will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Waterford. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the Mass at 7 p.m. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at St. Charles cemetery.

Memorials to The American Heart Association are appreciated.

Felicitas ‘Babe’ Daoust
WAUKESHA - Felicitas "Babe" Daoust died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at The Waters of Westmoreland Health Care Center at the age of 88. She was born June 4, 1912, in Suring, the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Huberty.

She was the cherished wife of Leo J. Daoust, who preceded her in death on June 19, 1997. She is survived by her loving sons, Richard (Lynn) Daoust and Ronald (Jerrilyn) D’aoust; her loving daughters, Elaine Wiesenthal and Claudette (Richard) Oremus; and her grandchildren, Kathy (Jim) Cappozzo, Corey (Bryan) Grayson, Heather Daoust, Sue (John) Marek, Rick Daoust, Erin and Jessica D’aoust, Dawn (Wendell) Gladem, Ken Binon, Connie (John) Lappley, Debbie Ashley, Don (Kristen) Oremus and Ron (Traci) Oremus. She is further survived by 15 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Babe was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon; her son, Gerald; her granddaughter, Lisa Binon; her great-granddaughter, McKenzie Oremus; and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at St. William Catholic Church. Father Mark Payne will celebrate Mass. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home-West on Moreland Boulevard; a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. A second visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Prairie Home cemetery.

Babe’s family would like to give special thanks to all of those at the Waters of Westmoreland who provided wonderful care and friendship to Babe, and also to the Vitas Foundation for their assistance.

Eujenio Mesa Jr.
WAUKESHA - Waukesha resident Eujenio Mesa Jr. was born to everlasting life Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at the age of 40. He was born in Milwaukee on April 21, 1960.

He was the dear son of Eujenio and Maria (nee Rodriguez) Mesa Sr. of Waukesha; and the beloved brother of Maria D. Mesa and Diana (Mark) Mesa-Horaitis, both of Milwaukee, and Javier Mesa of Waukesha. He was also the uncle of Leticia Mesa and Nikkos Horaitis, both of Milwaukee. He is further survived and loved by other relatives and friends.

The visitation took place from 9 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 22, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church; Fr. Aurelio Perez officiating. Graveside services followed the Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery.

Bruce J. Pike
WAUKESHA - Lifelong Waukesha resident Bruce J. Pike, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at his Waukesha home. He was born on Aug. 25, 1937, to the late Louis and Blodwen (nee Roberts) Pike. Mr. Pike was a 1956 graduate of Waukesha High School. He was an avid table tennis player and was a longtime member and past president of the Waukesha County Table Tennis Association. He was employed at Sears for 30 years and then was employed at Lutheran Social Services as the activity director. For the last five years he was employed at AAA. In 1958 he married Judith (nee Daniels) Pike; she preceded him in death in 1985.

He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Carrie Jo Pike of Menomonie and Deborah L. Edwards of Waukesha. He is further survived by his brothers, Warren (Margaret) Pike of Dousman and Robert (Shirley) Pike of Waukesha; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Pike in 1997 and Harold Pike in 2000.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. The Rev. Ralph Schultz is officiating.

Adela ‘Del’ Hamacher
PEWAUKEE - Adela "Del" Hamacher (nee Heiser) was born to eternal life on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband, James.

She is survived by her beloved daughter and best friend, Lynn (Ed) Roeder, and her great-grandson, Michael Horton, both of Pewaukee. She is also survived by her sisters, Ann Buerosse of Medford, Ore., and Gwen Myra Drew of Waukesha.

She was a graduate of Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1938. Del worked for many years in a local Waukesha doctors office and retired in 1982 from Milwaukee County Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, W280-N2101 Hwy. SS, Pewaukee.

Julia P. Nesta
WAUKESHA - Julia P. Nesta, 90, of Waukesha, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at LindenGrove Health Care Facility in Waukesha. She was born Dec. 22, 1909, in Ithica, Wis., a daughter of the late John and Julia (nee Weitzel) Bohl. She retired from Prairie Home cemetery and was a founding member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. She belonged to the Seniors and Golden Agers Club at the church. On July 6, 1928, she married Anthony "A.J." Nesta. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1988. She was also preceded by her parents; two sons, Duane "D.J." Nesta and Vincent J. Nesta; a brother, Emmet Bohl; and a sister, Esther Greb.

Julia is survived by her two sons, Dale A. (Nancy) Nesta and Lance D. Nesta, both of Waukesha; a daughter, Marcia A. (Lee) Bahr of Kingwood, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Mark Nesta of Waukesha, Kevin (Arlene) Nesta of Oconomowoc, Jeffrey Nesta M.D. of Polo, Ill., Dawn Nesta of Waukesha, Jean (Brian) Nesta-Berry of Eugene, Ore., Julianne (John) Nawrocki of League City, Texas, Jim Nesta of Waukesha, Maribeth Bahr of Lawrence, Kan., Arlene Nesta of Pocatello, Idaho, Michael (Rebecca) Nesta of Sarasota, Fla., and Joy (Wally) Kennedy of Clearwater, Fla.; along with 10 great-grandchildren. Julia is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gladys Nesta of Watertown; a daughter-in-law, Jan Nesta of Homer, La.; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home-West on Moreland Boulevard; a rosary service for Julia will be held at 8 p.m. A second visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home; a procession from the funeral home to St. Mary’s Church for the Mass will follow. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery in Waukesha.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of the donor’s preference is appreciated.

Alma F. Abrahamson
OCONOMOWOC - Alma F. Abrahamson of Oconomowoc, formerly of Waukesha, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Shorehaven Health Care Center at the age of 90. She was born May 25, 1910, the daughter of William and Ella (Kusch) Albrecht. Alma was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Waukesha.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Karen (Wendell) Smith of the town of Lebanon and William (Kathleen) of the town of Ottawa, and her daughter-in-law, Shirley Abrahamson of Waukesha. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, Christy Geyer, Cindy Giessel, Michael Abrahamson, Kim Porzky, Pamela Smith, Jay Smith and Craig Abrahamson; nine great-grandchildren, Sara, Scott, Brittney, Courtney, Meghan, Jeff, Steven, Kaitlyn and Jacob; other relatives and friends. Alma is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her son, Robert; and her granddaughter, Anne.

The funeral service for Alma will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Chaplain Gerald Goodrich will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park.

Martha E. Hodgdon
WAUKESHA - Martha E. Hodgdon, 94, of Waukesha, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 11, 1906, in Spooner, a daughter of the late Morris C. Bascombe and Jane Ellen (nee Ingerham) Bascombe. She moved to Waukesha when she was 18. Martha is a former member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church and was most recently a member of First United Methodist Church in Waukesha. On June 6, 1932, she married Donald H. Hodgdon in Waukesha. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Hubert, Henry, George and Earl; one sister, Grace Mae Amidon; and a stepsister, Gladys Fraatz.

Martha is survived by a stepson, Robert Hodgdon of Melrose, Mass., and six stepgrandchildren. She is further survived by other relatives and close friends.

The funeral service for Martha will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the Cesarz, Charapata and Zinnecker Funeral Home-West, 237 N. Moreland Blvd. The Rev. Sandra Gaylord, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, will be the officiant. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, 14875 W. Greenfield Ave., New Berlin.

Alfred J. Hoffman
NEW BERLIN - Alfred J. Hoffman, of New Berlin, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at the age of 89.

He was the loving husband and friend of Anita (nee Losse); beloved father of David (Edna), the late Douglas (Karen Tomich), James (Judith), Theodore (Nancy), Brian Hoffman and Janet (David) Robertson; and brother-in-law of Ann Hoffman and Howard (Dorothy) Losse. He is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Alfred was a longtime supervisor at Allen Bradley Company, an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years, a founding member and elder of Calvary Community Church.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today, Aug. 24, at Calvary Community Church, 4895 S. Calhoun Road, New Berlin. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Highland Memorial Park (meet at the cemetery).

Lynn A. Worley Jr.
PEWAUKEE - Lynn Austin Worley Jr., 67, of the village of Pewaukee, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at River Hills-West Health Center in Pewaukee. Lynn was born July 2, 1933, in Hughes, Ark., the son of Lynn Worley Sr. and Georgia Devers Worley. Lynn was a former employee of the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Co. in Milwaukee for several years. Lynn later moved to Adams and owned and operated Marge’s Restaurant there, which he named after his wife. Lynn was an avid fisherman during his active years and later in his life he attended the Caring Place Day Care in Waukesha and was a resident at River Hills-West in the village of Pewaukee.

Lynn is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie (nee King) of the village of Pewaukee; and by his daughters, Sherrie (David) Griffin of Fox Point and Cindy (Heiko) Bohlmeier of Waukesha. Lynn is further survived by grandchildren Jordan, Jason and Sarah Griffin and Krista Bohlmeier, and by other relatives and friends.

A private family service will be held.

Eugene Zag
WAUKESHA - Eugene Zag, 78, of Oconomowoc, and a former longtime Waukesha resident died Monday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Shorehaven Health Center in Oconomowoc. Mr. Zag was born in Hungary on June 18, 1922. He came to this country with his wife and children in 1956 as a refugee during the Hungarian revolt. Mr. Zag and his family settled in Waukesha shortly after arriving in America and worked briefly repairing watches in a corner of John DeQuardo’s shoe repair shop. Mr. Zag was well-respected as a craftsman and a master engraver. In 1957 he began his own business, Zag Jewelers, which he owned and operated along with his family.

Mr. Zag is survived by his wife, Sarah, of Oconomowoc, and by his daughters, Rosemary (Patrick) Panella of Oconomowoc and Sarah 'Sandy' (James) Sickels of Pewaukee. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Daniel, Lauren and Joseph Panella and Morgan, Ashley and Ryan Sickels. Mr. Zag is further survived by other relatives and friends, both here and in Hungary. He was preceded in death by a son, Peter Zag, and his daughter, Kathy Zag.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Rudolph-Larsen Bros. Funeral Home, 500 N. East Ave., Waukesha; a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, with a processional from the Rudolph-Larsen Bros. Funeral Home to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waukesha for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's cemetery.
