Arnold C. Schwartz
WATERTOWN - Arnold C. Schwartz, 99, of 1020 Hill St., Watertown, formerly of 1121 Highland Ave., Watertown, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Marquardt Memorial Manor, Watertown.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown. The Rev. Michael Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in Hustisford cemetery.

Mr. Schwartz was born on Aug. 5, 1902, in the town of Lebanon, the son of Henry and Anna (Braunschweig) Schwartz. He was married on May 1, 1926, to Neltha Tesch at Bethany Lutheran Church, Hustisford.

Mr. Schwartz farmed all his life in the Hustisford, Lowell and Clyman areas. He also hauled milk and cheese for Radloff's of Hustisford for many years. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown, and a former member of Salem Lutheran Church, Lowell, where he served as an usher. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, He loved to spend time with family and friends especially fishing with his grandchildren. For many years he enjoyed working with and training horses. His warm smiles and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Yet because of his Savior Jesus, they look forward to seeing him again in heaven.

Survivors include two daughters, Irene (Charles) Kittel, Watertown, and Adeline (Robert) Mittag Sr., Juneau; one brother, William (Eldora) Schwartz, Watertown; two sisters, Lorraine Dornfeld, and Doris Witte, both of Watertown; 12 grandchildren, Wayne (Ann) Schwartz, Julie Schwartz, Carol Jahnz, Robert Jahnz, James (Annette) Hoppe Sr., Sheryl (Larry) Visgar, Nancy (James) Tacks, Charles Hoppe Jr., Herman Mittag, Margaret (Harold) Chapman, Robert Mittag Jr., and Mark Mittag; 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda Visgar, Samantha Visgar, Larry Visgar Jr., James Hoppe Jr., Peter Hoppe, Andrea Hoppe, Michelle Tacks, Jessica Tacks, Stephanie Tacks, and Matthew Tacks; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Neltha, on Dec. 24, 1985; two sons, Harold Schwartz and Arnold Schwartz Jr.; two daughters and their husbands, Janet (William) Jahnz and Lucille (Charles) Hoppe, Sr., and one son-in-law, Eugene Kohls.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m., until the time of service at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown, or the charity of one's choice.

Richard A. Hoffman
JUNEAU - Richard A. Hoffman, 77, of 735 E. Center St., Juneau, died on Monday, April 15, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 19, at 5 p.m., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, LeRoy. The Rev. Charles Wester will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Catholic cemetery, LeRoy.

Mr. Hoffman was born on Sept. 8, 1924, in LeRoy. He was married on Aug. 23, 1952, to Elaine M. Krapfl at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, LeRoy.

Mr. Hoffman was a graduate of Mayville High School. He was employed with the Dodge County Highway Department for 37 years as superintendent of roads. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Europe. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Juneau, a former member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, LeRoy, and had been president of the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Hoffman, Juneau; two daughters, Linda (Michael) Weber, Lemoore, Calif., and Kay Hodgson, Beaver Dam; three grandchildren, Nicole Weber, James Weber, and Jacob Hodgson; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jack, and one daughter, Nancy, both in infancy.

Friends may call on Friday, April 19, from 4 p.m. until the time of service at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Leroy.

Memorials may be made to the Juneau EMS.

Mary M. Schultz
WAUPUN - Mary M. Schultz, 92, of The Christian Home, Waupun, formerly of 305 Kenyon Lane, Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at The Christian Home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 16, at 6 p.m., at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Burnett. The Rev. James Daugherty will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Mrs. Schultz was born on Jan. 28, 1910 in the town of Scott, Columbia County, the daughter of Adolph and Annie (Boushon) Hein. She was married to Theodore Schultz on Feb. 11, 1928, in Cambria.

Mrs. Schultz was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Burnett.

Survivors include her children, Eugene (Louella) Schultz, Kimberly, Arlene (Hilbert) Klawitter, Beaver Dam, Donald (Beverly) Schultz, and Dennis (Bernice) Schultz, both of Waupun; five sisters, Alma Duchow, Wyocena, Lizzie Marsh, Neenah, Elsie Draeger, Beaver Dam, Dora Kath, Pardeeville, and Agnes (Donald) MacDonald, Fox Lake; two brothers, Ernest (Juanita) Hein, Appleton, and Carl (Dorothy) Hein, Neenah; one sister-in-law, Audrey Hein, Beaver Dam; one brother-in-law, Eward Haldermann, Beaver Dam; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, on May 27, 1971; two brothers, Henry and Adolph Hein; one sister, Evelyn Haldemann and one grandson.

Elfrieda E. Glodowski
RANDOLPH - Elfrieda E. Glodowski, 98, of Continental Manor, Randolph, formerly of Burnett and Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at the manor.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Lindner will officiate. Burial will be in Burnett Central cemetery.

Mrs. Glodowski was born on Jan. 30, 1904, in Horicon, the daughter of Julius and Anna (Hilgendorf) Lueck. She was married to Henry Glodowski on June 4, 1925, in Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Glodowski worked as a nurses aid at the former Lutheran Hospital, Beaver Dam. She was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, where she was active in the Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one brother, Reinhold (Mae) Lueck, Pardeeville; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1988, three brothers, William, Walter and Gerhardt Lueck; four sisters, Hattie Jasman, Elsie Plath, Ann Lieske and Martha Dolgner.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 16, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Koepsell Funerral Home, Beaver Dam.

George Streekstra
FRIESLAND - George Streekstra, 85, died on Friday, April 19, 2002, at the Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 11 a.m., at the Friesland Reformed Church. The Rev. Ronald Van Der Werff will officiate. Burial will be in Friesland cemetery.

Mr. Streekstra was born on Aug. 8, 1916, in the town of Randolph, Columbia County, the son of Henry and Cornelia (Schaalma) Streekstra. He was married on Feb. 20, 1939, to Annette Vredeveld in Friesland. He was married to Elsie E. Elgersma on Aug. 8, 1945, in Waupun.

Mr. Streekstra was formerly employed with Metal Fab of Beaver Dam, for 20 years, was the Friesland cemetery sexton for 20 years, town of Randolph custodian for several years, was former owner-operator of Streekstra General Merchandise of Friesland, and drove truck for many years. He was a dedicated member of the Friesland Reformed Church, was a deacon, and one of his great loves of the church was the tape ministry, which he did for 27 years.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie, Friesland; eight children, Ann (Alvin) Boerson, Waupun, Annette (Howard) Hopp, Ripon, Harold (Helen) Streekstra, Wisconsin Rapids, Connie (Bruce) Campbell, Rockford, Ill., Jerry (Rhonda) Streekstra, Randolph, Don (Sue) Streekstra, Mayville, Dennis Streekstra (fiancee Mary Jahns), Manitowoc, and Kathy (Elton Kleist), Orange Park, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Harriet Streekstra, Waupun, Tena Streekstra, Randolph, Jessie Brandsma, Denver, Colo., and Martha Vredeveld, Slinger; one brother, Dick Vanden Bos, Waukegan, Ill.; a special friend of the family, Cindy Krause, Friesland; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annette; his parents; one great-grandson, Austin Steger; three brothers, Harry, Peter and Ted Streekstra and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 23, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Randolph Community Funeral Home, and on Wednesday, April 24, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Friesland Reformed Church.

A memorial fund is being established.

Gerald R. Rex
Gerald R. Rex, 75, of W9904 Highway CP, Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, April 20, 2002, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Church United Methodist, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Greg Jewison will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Rex was born on June 11, 1926, in Beaver Dam, the son of Leon and Florence (Grace) Rex. He was married to Gertrude Twardokus on Oct. 21, 1950, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Mr. Rex was confirmed on April 24, 1938, at the German Methodist Episcopal Church, Beaver Dam, now known as Trinity Church United Methodist. He was a life long active member of the church. He was a 1944 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. As a young man he played the saxophone and drums in a band. He always loved music, especially polka music. He operated a farm between Beaver Dam and Randolph, where he lived most of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Rex, Beaver Dam; two daughters, Janet Rex, Grand Forks, N.D., and Barbara (Jim Eggler) Rex, Madison; one granddaughter, Caitlin Staples, Grand Forks, N.D.; two aunts, Winifred Kitzerow and Mae Marshall; one brother-in-law, Carl (Dorothy) Twardokus; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers in infancy, and one daughter, Judith Kay, in infancy.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 23, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Trinity Church United Methodist, Beaver Dam.

Gerald was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Alyene N. Donner
COLUMBUS - Alyene N. Donner, of Columbus, died on Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Columbus Community Hospital.

A private family graveside service will be held in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Mrs. Donner was the daughter of Henry and Mary (Page) Noakes. She was married on Nov. 2, 1946, to Edward Donner Sr.

Mrs. Donner was a longtime resident of the Columbus area.

Survivors include three sons, Edward Donner Jr., Lake Delton, Duane Donner, Watertown, and Richard (Lyn) Donner, Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Lois Williams, Lake Delton, and Mary (John) Peterson, Rio; one daughter-in-law, Maria Donner, Madison; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ward (Marie) Noakes, California; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, on Sept. 19, 2001, and one son, Robert Donner, on April 7, 2002.

There will be no visitation.

Daisy I. Kukuk
COLUMBUS - Daisy Irene Kukuk, 89, of Columbus, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the Columbus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a lingering illness.

The funeral will be held on Friday, April 26, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, Cambria. The Rev. Julie WaterDu will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park cemetery, Fox Lake.

Mrs. Kukuk was born on Jan. 3, 1913, in Sun Prairie, the daughter of John Adams and Marie (Blake) Fisher. She was married on Jan. 27, 1935, to Wallace George Kukuk.

Mrs. Kukuk attended and graduated from Fox Lake High School in 1930, as her parents moved to Fox Lake in 1924, from the Sun Prairie area. She obtained a teaching certificate from Dodge Normal and taught in a one room school house in rural Fox Lake for two years. She and her husband spent their early married life in Fox Lake and moved to Cambria in the late 1930s. She was an active member of Cambria First Presbyterian Church for many years, and also a member of the Dorcas Society of the church. She spent many summers employed by the former Columbia Canning Factory, Cambria, and winter months employed at Wisconsin Cheeseman, Sun Prairie. She will be remembered as an excellent cook, and also as an avid gardener. She and her husband also saw to it that each of their six children were exposed to music lessons early in life and many wonderful hours were spent in their home around the piano singing gospel hymns, with Lois playing the piano. There is also the Kukuk family choir which has performed a number of times at the annual Cambria Gymanfa Ganu, the second Sunday in October.

Survivors include six children, Lois (Stuart) Smith, Columbus, Bill (Janice) Kukuk, St. Cloud, Minn., Betty Kloostra, Waupun, Audrey Unertl, Beaver Dam, Evelyn Kukuk, Verona, and Wally (Thena) Kukuk, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn (Ernie) Niehaus, Platteville; one sister-in-law, Elsie (Bruce) Collom, Escondido, Calif.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace, on Oct. 17, 1996, and one sister, Charlotte.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, and on Friday, April 26, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at First Presbyterian Church, Cambria.

Leo Brewer
OSHKOSH - Leo Brewer, 87, of Oshkosh, formerly of Waupun, died on Monday, April 22, 2002.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, April 26, at 11 a.m., at Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton. The Rev. Michael Bausch will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Waupun American Legion Post 210.

Mr. Brewer was born on Oct. 1, 1914, in Soldiers Grove, the son of Jerry and Laura (Bennett) Brewer. He was married on Oct. 26, 1940, to Lois Landaal in Waupun.

Mr. Brewer attended Madison schools graduating from Madison East High School. Following marriage, the couple resided in Waupun until 1964, when they moved to Oshkosh. While in Waupun, Leo owned and operated the Cities Service gas station for several years. He then started a career with the state of Wisconsin for 25 years, employed with the generating plant for the Wisconsin State Prison, Waupun, and retired from UW-Oshkosh as superintendent of buildings and grounds in 1979. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a past member of the Waupun VFW Post 6709.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Brewer, Oshkosh; one daughter, Louise (Daniel) Powell, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Gregory (Diane) Brewer, Ironwood, Mich., and Dean (Lynn) Brewer, Waukesha; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Burke, and Evelyn Reynolds, both of Madison; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Memorials are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Raymond H. Kowald
PORTAGE - Raymond Henry Kowald, 90, formerly of Montello, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Divine Savior Hospital, Portage.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Friesland. The Rev. John Unnasch will officiate. Burial will be in Cambria cemetery.

Mr. Kowald was born on May 17, 1911, in the town of Scott, Columbia County, the son of William and Ida Pauline (Yahnke) Kowald. He was married on July 17, 1935, to Ruby Peppers in Waukegan, Ill.

Mr. Kowald received his elementary education in the town of Scott, and attended Randolph High School. He and his wife farmed most of their married life in the town of Scott, on the family farm, moving to another farm near Grand Marsh in 1964. In 1995, he moved to Montello, and for the past year was a resident of the Montello Care Center. In his long life he enjoyed farming, hunting, raising horses, especially draft horses, and attending horse pulls. He was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Friesland.

Survivors include two children, William Raymond (Diane) Kowald, Markesan, and Lila (Orin D.) Schepp Sr., Cambria; seven grandchildren, Michael (Lynette) Kowald, Denise (Greg) Zuhlke, Amanda Kowald, Lynn Schepp, Orin D. (Tammy) Schepp Jr., Jennifer Schepp, and Shawn R. Schepp; four great-grandchildren, Erica R. Kowald, Teagan A. Zuhlke, Orin D. Schepp III, and Austin T. Schepp; dear friend Maxine Garetson; many nieces, nephews; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby, in October 1992; two brothers, Albert and Vernon; one sister, Bertha Froehlich, and one granddaughter, Stephanie Schepp in 1992.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 27, from noon until the time of service at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Friesland.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, is serving the family.
