Earl Pillsbury
WAUPUN - Earl Pillsbury, 70, of 204 Howard Drive, Waupun, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at New Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 21, at 10 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun. The Rev. Richard Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, where graveside military services will be held.
Mr. Pillsbury was born on Oct. 4, 1930, the son of Earl and Dora (Haslow) Pillsbury. He was married
on Aug. 10, 1985 to Arbutis "Boots" Klug in Waupun.
Mr. Pillsbury and his wife lived in Waupun all their married
life. He was employed as a guard at the Wisconsin State Prison, Waupun, and had a school bus route. He retired from the state in 1986. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun, serving on the church council, a member of the Waupun Masonic Lodge, helping with the Meals on Wheels program in the Waupun area, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 521, Fox Lake. He also enjoyed serving on the Highland Memory Gardens cemetery board.
Survivors include his wife, Arbutis "Boots" Pillsbury, Waupun; four step-sons, Roland Klug, Appleton, Ronald (Sue) Klug and Wally (Peggy) Klug, both of Waupun, and Scott Klug, Mesa, Ariz.; three step-daughters, Roxanne (David) Horn, and Yvonne (Michael) White, both of Waupun, and Valerie (fiancee Brian Balgie) Biesenthal, Markesan; two sisters, Marge (Glen) Luck, Waupun, and Janice Adams, La Mesa, Calif.; 19 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one step-son; one step-grandson, and one sister.
Friends may call on Friday, July 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Saturday, July 21, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun.
Olga L. Smith
MAYVILLE - Olga L. Smith, 88, of 931 Mayer Lane, Mayville, died on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, July 22, at 4 p.m., at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville. The Rev. Geoffrey Hoy will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Mayville.
Mrs. Smith was born on Aug. 5, 1912, in Mayville, the daughter of Richard and Minnie (Opperman) Retzlaff. She was married
on Aug. 24, to Leslie H. Smith in Waukegan, Ill.
Mrs. Smith was a lifetime member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville. She was a volunteer with the Mayville Bloodbank for 25 years.
Survivors include four children, Leslie R. (Noroko) Smith, Horicon, Shirley (David) Schraufnagel, Ralph G. (Arlene) Smith, and Judy Smith, all of Mayville; one sister, Edna Simon, Lehigh Acres, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, in 1973, and one sister, Helene.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 22, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville.

Robert J. Malak
Robert J. Malak, 76, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael cemetery, Beaver Dam.
Mr. Malak was born on Dec. 9, 1924, in Beaver Dam, the son of Edward and Clara (Lemanski) Malak.
Mr. Malak served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed with Monarch Range, Beaver Dam, for many years. He loved to fly and at different times owned a Pieper Pacer and a Bonanza. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Beaver Dam, and was a charter member of EAA.
Survivors include his son Michael Malak; three step-children, Kathy, Edward and Jamie; one brother, Norb (Jeanne) Malak, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 24, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Michael Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Aaron Jahnke
WAUPUN - Aaron Jahnke, 73, of Waupun, died on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 23, at 11 a.m., at Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun. The Rev. Kenneth Spence will officiate.
Mr. Jahnke was born on Sept. 20, 1927, in Mattoon, the son of Lawrence and Magdeline (Weiderlich) Jahnke. He was married
on July 25, 1953, to Ermie Guenthner in Antigo.
Mr. Jahnke was a 1948 graduate of Antigo High School. He then attended Langlade County Teachers College. He received his bachelors degree from UW-Stevens Point in 1963, and later received his masters degree in education. In 1965, he and his wife moved to Waupun, where he was a math instructor at Wisconsin State Prison in Waupun for 26 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Jahnke was a member of Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He enjoyed the Northwoods where he hunted, fished and snowmobiled. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, always attending the many events his children and grandchildren participated in.
Survivors include his wife, Ermie Jahnke, Waupun; one daughter, Julie (Stan) VandeBerg, Brandon; three sons, Mark (Barbara) Jahnke, Waupun, Brian (Diana) Jahnke, Beaver Dam, and Matthew Jahnke, Waupun; five grandchildren, Jeanna and Joseph Aaron VandeBerg, and Hannah, Jacob and Lucas Aaron Jahnke; two brothers, Donald (Lorraine) Jahnke, Mattoon, and James (Arletta) Jahnke, Wausau; six sisters, Eleanor (Arno) Olson, Clintonville, Lorraine (Victor) Gutt, Shawano, Rosemarie (Randy) Wimmer, San Mateo, Calif., Lucille (Keith) Wirrer, Mattoon, Carolyn (Pete) Radunz, Wausau, and Reynotta (Hal) Hoberecht, Susiun, Calif.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Hannah; one brother, Arthur, and two sisters, Mary Ann Jahnke and Dorothea Grosinki.

Blue Bachhuber
MAYVILLE - Blue Bachhuber, 87, of 607 River Drive, Mayville, died on Monday, July 23, 2001, at her home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, July 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville. The Rev. Charles Wester will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
Mrs. Bachhuber was born on March 5, 1914, in Appleton, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Ann (Cuthbert) Ryan. She was married
on Oct. 18, 1941, to Dr. Edward A. Bachhuber in Appleton.
Mrs. Bachhuber was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville. She was a regular bridge player.
Survivors include seven children, Patricia (Stan T.) Barone, Fridley, Minn., Timothy Bachhuber, Mayville, Dr. Stephen (Irene) Bachhuber, Portland, Ore., Daniel (Margaret Todd Maitland) Bachhuber, Weimar, Germany, Dr. Mary (William J.) Watts, Seattle, Wash., and Dr. Thomas M. (Patricia) Bachhuber, Shorewood; 10 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward; one son; three sisters, and two brothers.

Martha Vande Slunt
BRANDON - Martha Vande Slunt, 80, of Brandon, died on Sunday, July 22, 2001, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 1 p.m., at Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon. The Rev. Leroy Boender will officiate. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Vande Slunt was born on Oct. 29, 1920, in Friesland, the daughter of William and Clara (Kok) Mulder. She was married
on June 6, 1941, to Delmer Vande Slunt in Brandon.
Mrs. Vande Slunt and her husband were both active members of the Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon. She was especially active in various women's groups associated with the church. She worked at the Fond du Lac County Fair at a stand for the Farm Bureau Woman's Organization. She was a member of the Association of Retired People, Waupun, and a past member of the Christian Home Auxiliary. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and liked to take the vegetables and baked goods to the Ripon Farmers Market.
Mrs. Vande Slunt especially liked playing an active role in many of her grandchildren's lives. Both she and her husband farmed in the Brandon area all their married
life and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include her husband, Delmer Vande Slunt, Brandon; one son, Wilfred (Kay) Vande Slunt, Fond du Lac; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Vande Slunt, Waupun; seven grandchildren, Dallas (Jennifer) Vande Slunt, Brandon, the Rev. Melitta Quinlan
WABENO - Melitta Quinlan, 70, of Wabeno, died on Monday, July 23, 2001, at Wausau Hospital, of complications following lung surgery.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m., at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Wabeno.
Mrs. Quinlan was born on Feb. 3, 1931, in West Bend, the daughter of Fred and Wilhelmine (Grothe) Reimann. She was married
in June of 1962, to Richard Quinlan of Green Bay.
Mrs. Quinlan attended McClane Elementary School and West Bend High School, graduating in 1949. In high school she was active in athletics, theater, and chorus. She received several honors including an award for Excellence in Oratorical Declamation and selection as the Snow Ball Queen. After graduation from high school, she attended LaCrosse Teachers College for one year. In 1950 and 1951, she worked for West Bend Mutual Insurance Company, returning to college in the fall of 1951, at UW-Madison, where she was a resident assistant. In 1954, she graduated with a degree in recreation. After graduation, she was the assistant director of recreation for the city of Sheboygan. Following that, she worked for the West Bend Gas and Electric Company. In 1959, she began teaching first grade at Arlington Heights, Ill., and the following two years she taught first grade and was primary supervisor at Prospect Heights Elementary School.
Mrs. Quinlan and her husband spent their first year of marriage on Washington Island, where she taught art in the grade school. From 1963 to 1980, she stayed home and raised her family in North Fond du Lac, Kewaunee, and Beaver Dam. In Beaver Dam, she was instrumental in the building of the new library, began the figure skating program, started two pre-school programs and an elementary school tutoring program, was active in the community theater and American Field Service (AFS), served Meals-on-Wheels, and founded the children's theater. In 1998, she and her husband retired to Wabeno, where she was a founder and first president of the Friends of the Wabeno Public Library and had recently been appointed to the Wabeno Public Library Board of Directors.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Quinlan, Wabeno; four children, Henry (Kristin) Quinlan, Ashland, Stella (John) Koop, Brookfield, Ill., Michael Quinlan, Bruce and Matthew Quinlan, Eagle River; three grandchildren, Maya Quinlan, Robert Quinlan, and Abbigail Quinlan; two brothers, Hans (Virginia) Reimann, New Baltimore, Mich., and Fred (Kathryn) Reimann, Wabeno; one sister-in-law, Patricia (Robert) Reimann, Fremont; three godchildren, Karl (Kathy) Reimann, Janesville, Kyla (Ron) Stach, Chesterfield, Mo., and John (Delores) Quinlan, Dublin, Ireland; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends,

John Hose
JUNEAU - John Hose, 56, of Juneau, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Wausau Hospital, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 30, at 7 p.m., at St. Kilian Church, Hartford. The Rev. Franklyn Becker will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery, Rubicon.
Mr. Hose was born on March 2, 1945, in Rubicon, the son of John and Mildred (Gurtner) Hose. He was married
on May 14, 1966, to Carol Wagner at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford.
Mr. Hose owned and operated Big John's in Rubicon for 17 years. John and his wife Carol owned and operated the Buckhorn Restaurant in Beaver Dam for four years. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Rubicon. He loved fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Hose, Juneau; two sons, John (Traci) Hose, Beaver Dam, and Dan (Angie) Hose, Juneau; one granddaughter, Marlea; three sisters, Pat (Don) Wilde, Pewaukee, Judy Loew, Hartland, and Betty (Ludwig) Rutkowsky, Elkhorn; one brother, Curt (Bonnie) Hose, Rubicon; two brothers-in-law, Robert (JoAnn) Wagner, Hartford, and Thomas (Rhonda) Wagner, Shawano; two sisters-in-law, Janet (Douglas) Pfister, Rhinelander, and Susan (Robert) Welsch, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends,

Mrs. Kohli was born on May 2, 1913, in Theresa, the daughter of John and Anna (Wittman) Heinecke. She was married
on June 3, 1937, to Atley "Chip" Kohli in Mayville.
Mrs. Kohli was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville.
Survivors include one son, Dan (Georgene) Kohli, Alpine, Calif.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends,
