Walter Kohlwey
Funeral services were held on Dec. 19 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pardeeville for Walter Kohlwey, who died on Dec. 15, 2001 at the age of 90. Pastor Edward Lindemann officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Smith Funeral Home, Pardeeville. Burial was at the Pardeeville Cemetery.
Mr. Kohlway was born July 31, 1911, son of George and Anna (Behrens) Kohlwey. He married Dorthea Reiche in Milwaukee on Nov. 7, 1935. She preceded him in death on July 11, 1993.
He married Erna Hanke in Arlington on June 29, 1995.
He owned and operated Kohlwey Heating and Plumbing in Rio for 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Pardeeville where he served on the Water and Sewer Commission.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pardeeville where he held many offices.
Survivors include: sons Arvin (Roseann) Kohlwey of Bellflower, Calif., Ralph (Betty) Kohlwey of Fredonia, Terrance (Ruth) Kohlwey of Rio, Ernest (Ila) Kohlwey of Eagan, Minn., Joel (Jane) Kohlwey of Rio; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers Ruben (Evelyn) Kohlwey of Saukville, George (Shirley) Kohlwey of Saukville; sisters Anita Eulert of Cedarburg, Florence (Gerald) Rathke of Jackson, Renata (Kenneth) Rappold of Cedarburg.
Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son LeRoy; sisters Georgianna Rettmann, Eleonora Dobberfuhl and Esther Koeller; brother Benoit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mr. Kohlwey’s name to the Education fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Robert Charles Johnson
A memorial service was held at Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton, on Sunday, Dec. 16, with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Grafton, for Robert Charles Johnson, who died on Dec. 13, 2001 at the age of 78, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Tomahawk, after an extended illness.
Mr. Johnson was born on Nov. 7, 1923, in Rockdale/Madison, to the late Ingvald Johnson and the late Hannah (Bjoras) Johnson.
He worked as a carpenter/contractor, farmer, and mechanic in Marshall. He and his wife moved to Tomahawk in semi-retirement in 1972, to be closer to nature and recreation.
Survivors include: daughters Marilyn Skolaski of Tomahawk, Betty (Robert) Pound of Merrill, Trudy Mandel of Grafton; grandchildren Brian and Mark Skolaski of Tomahawk, Rob Skolaski of Merrill, Becky (Joe) Miller of Bowlingbrook, Ill., Robert (Georgette) Paxton of Appleton, Travis Pound of Milwaukee, Todd Mandel of La Crosse, and Ed Mandel of Grafton; seven great-grandchildren and one brother John (Jean) Johnson of Cottage Grove.
Besides his wife, Helen, and parents, Robert was preceded in death by one sister, Annabelle Thorstad.
Memorials to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated.
Elizabeth G. Gora
A Memorial Mass will be held at 6 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton for Elizabeth G. Gora (nee Kroner), who died on Dec. 16, 2001 at the age of 86. Family will greet guests from 5 p.m. until the Mass. Inurnment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Ritter-Larsen Bros. Brookfield Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Gora was born April 20, 1915 in Milwaukee, daughter of Charles and Josephine Kroner. She was a nurse at St. Michael and St. Mary’s Hospitals in Milwaukee and did private nursing for infants in the late 1930s and ’40s.
Survivors include: nieces and nephews Marie (Richard) Viesselmann, Kathy (Gary) Gilstrap, Dennis, Robert, Fred (Diann), Andy (Jean), Ron (Debra) Kroner, great-nieces, great-nephews, adopted grandchildren Paul and Grace Willems, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and sister Sr. Rosetta Kroner SSND.
Erwin P. Dembeck
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. today at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Freistadt, for Erwin P. Dembeck, of Mequon who died on Dec. 16, 2001 at the age of 74. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Instate at the church from 5 p.m. until time of service. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Dembeck was born in Milwaukee on April 19, 1927 to the late Joseph and Bertha (nee Schima) Dembeck and married Eunice (nee Radtke) on March 22, 1952 in Waukegan, Ill.
He was a member of the Howard J. Schroeder American Legion Post 457 in Mequon and also was a member of the Mequon Contractors.
Survivors include: wife Eunice of Mequon; children Michael of Belgium, Carol (Glenn) Barthel of Mequon, Richard (Debra) of West Bend, James of Brown Deer; grandchildren Jeffery (Nicole) Barthel of Sussex, Stacey and Nicholas Dembeck of West Bend. Further survived by sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by one brother, Norman.

Frances Baar
Private graveside services of committal will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Kohler for Frances Baar, who died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at the age of 92. Ballhorn Funeral Chapels are coordinating the service arrangements.
Mrs. Baar was born Feb. 11, 1909 in St. Louis, Mo., to Joseph and Mary Bernasek. She graduated from Walter Reed Hospital Army School of Nursing in Washington, D.C., where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse.
On Aug. 31, 1935 she married Paul W. Baar, a former Kohler Co. Supervisor. She served her country in the U.S. Army Medical Nurse Corps where she received the rank of Second Lt.
She was a nurse at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and at the Kohler Co. Medical Dept.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Sy Walczak of Grafton.
In addition to her husband, who died on Jan. 16, 1994, Frances was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Peter, and three sisters.
The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Jorgensen and the wonderful, caring staff at Lasata Care Center for their kindness and support.
Gladys Clark Rosentheimer Reis
Gladys Clark Rosentheimer Reis, 93, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 19, 1908, in Beloit, and was a long-time resident of Washington County.
She was a graduate of Kewaskum High School and the Milwaukee Lutheran School of Nursing.
Gladys was an active member of many charitable and social organizations and endowed the M.W. Rosenheimer Family Fund of the West Bend Community Foundation.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean (John) Schumann and Suzanne (Kenneth) Priegel, their children, Jeffrey (Beverly) Kenkel, Burns and Wendy Nelthorpe, Rocky Schumann and Jennifer (Michael) Zajicek; stepchildren, Jill (Tom) Smith, Robin (Jayne) Reis, Julia Reis, Melody Reis and Heidi (Dennis) Kepchar, their children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, Maurice Rosenheimer and John Reis; a sister, Edith Landman; a son-in-law, Burns R. Nelthorpe; and a stepson, Jay Reis.
Services will be private.
Memorials may be given to the Benevolent Corporation Cedar Campuses or to the The Threshold Inc. of West Bend.

Edward A. Lepien
Edward A. Lepien, 93, of Hartford, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 22, 1908, in the town of Erin to the late Edward and Laura (nee Guerndt) Lepien, and married Anita Schwamb on Sept. 30, 1931 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa.
Edward was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hartford.
He loved farming; it was his work, his hobby and his joy.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marilyn Schauer of Hartford, Janet (Marvin) Moldenhauer of Iron Ridge and Carol (Roger) Fink of Mayville; a son, Ned (Carolyn) Lepien of Hartford; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a son-in-law, Orville Schauer; a sister, Verna (William) Roemer; a brother, Norman (Alice) Lepien; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford.
Pastor Arv Arveson will officiate, and interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First United Methodist Church are appreciated.
Kenneth M. Erler
Kenneth M. Erler, 80, of Jackson died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital of West Bend.
He was born to Walter (Helen Weber) Erler on Dec. 7, 1921 in Milwaukee and raised in West Bend. He married Virginia Hassmer on June 27, 1953, at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church in West Bend.
After the marriage, the couple lived in Mayfield. He was a welder for the West Bend Equipment Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked as a disk jockey for WTKM, using the air name of Ken Scott for 12-1/2 years.
He was a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church of West Bend, and enjoyed working on cars, photography and especially the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Erler of Jackson; two children, Cindy Martin (friend Max Brown) of Green Bay and Tim Erler of Jackson; family, Sandy (Robert) Fretschel of Waupun, Candee (Steve) Smith of McFarland, and Joy Rouse of Rothschild; three grandchildren, Jennifer Smith of Jamaica Plain, Mass., Jeremey Smith of Madison and Ryan Rouse of Rothschild; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Hassmer of Jackson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Kevin Erler.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church of West Bend with Rev. William L. Dushek officiating. Visitation will be at the church only from 9:30 a.m. until time of service, Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001.
Interment will take place at the Washington County Memorial Park following the service.
The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.
