Ruth Niles Burns
Ruth Niles Burns, 84, of Paris, Ky., widow of Eric S. Burns, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Winchester Centre for Health and Rehabilitation, Winchester, Ky.
A native of Milwaukee, she was born July 1, 1916, to the late Frederick W. Niles and Louise Katherine DeTuncq.
She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, a member of the Blue Grass Garden Club of Kentucky, and a board member of the Kansas City Girl Scouts.
She also served as an appraiser for the Kansas City Museum of Science, and was an antique and fine art appraiser in Kansas City, Mo. and Bourbon County, Kentucky.
Survivors include a daughter, Kaye Louise Burns of Paris, Ky.; a son, Dr. Stuart James Burns, DVM, Bourbon County and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions are suggested to one's favorite charity.
Barbara Katherine Wenninger
Barbara Katherine Wenninger, nee Novak, 91, of Tomahawk, formerly of Merrill and St. Lawrence, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at the Riverview Rehabilitation and Care Center, Tomahawk.
She was born Nov. 30, 1909, in Merrill, to the late Frank and Anna (nee Moc) Novak.
After her marriage to Anthony J. Wenninger in January, 1942, at Farmington, the couple moved to St. Lawrence.
She was very active in the community for over 60 years. Barbara founded the St. Lawrence Eager Beavers 4-H Club, which is still active, and was also an employee of Chrysler Outboard of Hartford for many years.
She was the beloved mother of three sons, John (Mary) Wenninger of Barrington, Ill., Thomas (Joan) Wenninger of Tomahawk and David (Anne) Wenninger of St. Lawrence; a daughter, Rosanne (Terry) Cowan of West Bend; the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and the dear sister of John Novak of Tomahawk.
She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband; a brother, Frank Novak of Merrill and a sister, Sr. Rosaria "Mary", ODC, of Racine.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Fr. Alois Van Beek will officiate, and interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Memorials are appreciated.

Marie Fe B. Novales
Marie Fe B. Novales, nee Buencamino, 49, of West Bend, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 25, 1951, in Manila, Philippines to Manuel and Elena (nee Aquino) Buencamino, and married Victor "Eric" Novales on Aug. 14, 1972, in Quezon City in the Philippines.
After they settled in West Bend, Maria taught piano in her home for many years.
Survivors include her husband; three children, Alegria (fiance Roland Apikelis) Novales of San Mateo, Calif., and Christian and Martin Novales, both at home.
Maria is further survived by her mother, Elena (Tony) Beauchamp of Van Nuys, Calif. eight brothers and sisters, Cecile (Bert) Castro, Dulce (Oliver) Cantos and Amanda (Eddie) Maniquis, all of Los Angeles, Marita (Art) Villaneuva of Vancouver, Wash., Leo Buencamino of New York, Mari (Lito) Balquiedra and Bigie (Olette) Gonzales, both of Manila, and Manny (Susan) Buencamino of San Mateo, Calif.; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The family, relatives and dear friends wish to announce that a memorial celebration service will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Northbrook Church, 4014 Highway 167 West (Holy Hill Road), Richfield, with Pastor Lee Hayward officiating.
Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be made to Northbrook Church or for the benefit of the family.

Carl A. Matson
Carl A. Matson, 89, of West Bend, formerly of Appleton, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 30, 1911, in the town of Harrison, Waupaca, County, to the late Lars and Ingelborg (Gulbrunson) Matson, and married Edith R. Hedding on Nov. 7, 1936, at The Parsonage of Waupaca County,
He was a machinist for Fox River Tool and Die for over 15 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of West Bend.
Survivors include his wife; five children; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; a brother; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Highway B, West Bend.
James Hollingsworth will officiate, and cremation will take place at Parkview Cremations of Fond du Lac.

Isabelle E. Held
Isabelle E. Held, nee Konrath, 86, of Hartford, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Hartford Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 8, 1914, in the town of Hartford, to the late Peter and Margaret (nee Friess) Konrath, and married Robert Held on June 22, 1935, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger.
Isabelle was a life-long resident of the town of Hartford, and helped farm with her husband until 1975.
She was a life-long member of St. Peter's Christian Mothers, a 60-year member of Cooney River Homemakers, and a member of the Good Samaritan Guild.
Survivors include five daughters, Irene (Robert) Wolf of Slinger, Ann (Ludwig) Miller of Fredonia, Sr. Paulanne Held S.S.S.F. of Glenview, Ill., Jeannette (Chip) Goehring of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Marianne (Gene) Dietenberger of Hartford; four sons, Robert Jr. (Audrey) of Cumberland, Michael (Barrie) of Huron, S.D., Paul (Sandra) and Charles (Denise), both of Slinger; 37 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Konrath of Hartford; a sister, Marie Plouff of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters-in-law, Marie Mullen of Milwaukee and Margaret Wagner of Oconomowoc; a brother-in-law, Jerome (Dolores) Held of Hartford; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband; two grandchildren; a brother, Adolph Konrath; and three sisters, Adela Schulties, Dorothy Staral and Margaret Zwirlein.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 26 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger.
Father Robert Bales will officiate, and interment will be in Old St. Pete's Catholic Cemetery, Slinger.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Catholic Church or the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.
Erwin A. Stern
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grafton for retired Grafton businessman Erwin A. Stern, 71, who died Jan. 19, 2001. Fr. Michael Barrett officiated at the ceremony. Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Stern was born March 6 1929, in Shorewood. He married Marion R. Mohr of Fond du Lac on May 30, 1963.
Mr. Stern was a member of the family that operated IGA and Sentry food stores in Grafton for over 60 years. The stores were noted for their pioneering use of advancing technology in the grocery business.
He received a bachelor’s degree in 1951 and a master’s degree in1953 in chemistry from Marguette University. Mr. Stern joined the staff and taught chemistry for two years before joining his parents in the family grocery business. After his marriage, his wife, and later his children, joined the business and they worked until their retirement in 1993.
He devoted a great deal to the Village of Grafton. He joined the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department in 1953 and rose to the rank of first assistant chief before his retirement from the department in 1980. Mr. Stern also served as a member of the Grafton Plan Commission and Appeals Board, where he was instrumental in the planning and development of the Grafton park system including, Lime Kiln Park.
In addition, Mr. Stern was a member of the Grafton Water and Wastewater Commission for 13 years, serving as president for the last 11 years. He was a member of Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association and served on various Governor’s commissions for state development. Mr. Stern also served on the Parish Council at St. Joseph’s Church in Grafton.
After his retirement, Mr. Stern focused his energies on genealogy research. He served as first vice president of the Milwaukee County Genealogical Society where, among other things, he was responsible for the development and implementation of the society’s speaker program.
Survivors include: sons James (Margaret) of Grafton and Brian (Amy) of Rochester Minn.; daughters Carla of Chicago and Julie (Patrick) Jankowski of Grafton; granddaughters Ashley, Heather and Leanna; brothers Joseph (Betty) Stern of Cedarburg and Lou (Louise) Stern of Farmington Hills, Mich.; sisters Alice Dickmann of Grafton and Marilyn (James) Gardener of Bloomington, Ind.; sisters-in-law Helen Swantz and Jeanette Burnett and brother-in-law David (Lori) Mohr, all of Fond du Lac.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marion, his parents Peter and Marie Stern of Grafton and his parents-in-law Carl and Hazel Mohr of Fond du Lac, his brothers-in-law Jerome Dickmann, Howard Burnett and Addison Swantz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Joseph’s School, Grafton, or the American Lung Association.
