Peter Wiebe
A funeral service was held on Tuesday at Wisconsin Memorial Park in the Chapel of the Flowers for Peter Wiebe, 79, a longtime Thiensville resident who died on Jan. 11, 2001. Mr. Wiebe was born Jan. 29, 1921 in Mordan, Manitoba, Canada.
Survivors include: daughter Caroline (James) Handley; son Dennis (Carol) Wiebe; grandchildren Lisa (Don) Mayer, James Jr. (Chris) Handley, Dennis Jr. (Sarah) Wiebe, Kevin Wiebe, Adam Wiebe and Matthew Wiebe; great-grandchildren Noah Mayer and Sean Handley.
Doyle Ward
Cedarburg resident Doyle Ward, 70, died at his home Jan. 6, 2001 with his family at his side.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Unitarian Church North, 13800 N. Port Washington Rd., Mequon.
Mr. Ward was laid to rest in his former home of Versailles, Kent. last week. Arrangements are being handled by the Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington.
Mr. Ward was the beloved husband of Janice M. (nee Barron) Ward and father of Terry (Michael) Brumm, Gordon (Lisa) Ward, Damon (Joanne) Ward, Joanna (William) Koehler, Belinda Ward, Doyle (Shelly) Ward, Christian (Kristine) Ward and Claudia (James) Herlache. He is further survived by loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by son Brent, and his parents, Raymond and Emma (nee Bartlett) Ward.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated.
Eugene E. "Gene" Purgett
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend for Eugene E. "Gene" Purgett of Germantown, 74, who died on Jan. 14, 2001. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Robert Lindau will officiate at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend. Interment will take place at Washington County Memorial Park of West Bend.
Mr. Purgett was born Nov. 26, 1926 in Withee, son of Charles and Florence (nee Bergstrom) Purgett. He married Catherine E. Blume on June 21, 1947 in the priest’s rectory in the Woodland Hotel in Owen.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Infantry Division and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. He owned and operated Eugene Purgett Trucking for more than 30 years.
Survivors include: wife Catherine Purgett; children Gloria (Bob) Allen, Paul Purgett and Laura (Bill) Kirchen; grandchildren Travis (Tracy), Christine, Paul, Susan, Eric, Jaime and Shannon; great-grandchildren Skylar and Celeste; sisters Ruby (Don) Zimmerman, Janet (Otto) Sauer and Diane (John) Kleinke; sister-in-law Marge Purgett; cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Anna Burdick, son Duane Purgett and brother Mahlon Purgett.
Ella E. Hansen
Ella E. Hansen, 93, of Kewaskum, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.
She was born July 2, 1907, in Nabob, to the late Carl and Elizabeth (Meinhardt) Bauer.
Ella Haack was united in marriage to Tony Hansen on Sept. 4, 1959, at St.Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum.
He passed away on Feb. 5, 1966.
Mrs. Hansen was employed by Regal Ware Inc. in Kewaskum for 23 years, and was a member of St.Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia (David) Backhaus of Kewaskum; four grandchildren, James (Nancy) Backhaus and Steven (Susan) Backhaus, both of Kewaskum, Gary (Lynette) Backhaus of West Bend and Nancy (Stewart) Gurnee of Appleton; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a son, Howard Haack; three brothers, Alvin, Carl and George Bauer; three sisters, Mabel Luecke, Lilly Kissinger and Hulda Bucholtz.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum.
Rev. Edwin Fredrich will officiate, and burial will follow in Lutheran Memorial Park, Kewaskum.
Friends may call on Saturday at the church only from noon until the time of services.
The Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, is assistng the family.
Elizabeth Gildersleeve
Elizabeth Gildersleeve, 77, of Kewaskum, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center in West Bend.
She was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Leonard, Mich., to the late John and Mary Curzydlo.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kewaskum.
Survivors include a son, Freddy (Janet) Gildersleeve of Kewaskum; two sisters, Anna Wronski of Littleton, Colo. and Eva (Frank) Raczkowski of Sun City West, Ariz.; three grandsons, Jim, John and David Gildersleeve; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, John and Walter Curzydlo.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kewaskum.
Father Mark Jones will officiate, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
There will be a private visitation prior to Mass.
The Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, is serving the family.
Orville L. Frank
Orville L. Frank, 70, of West Bend, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
He was born March 3,1930, in the town of Rubicon to the late Herbert and Hertha (nee Genger) Frank, and married Maxine R. Grenas on July 4, 1970, at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend.
Orville attended Hartford Union High School where he was the captain of the band.
Following high school, Orv served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
Orv played in polka bands for more than 50 years, including the Harvey Krueger Band, the Gordie Miller Orchestra, Push and Pull and his own band, The Orvie Frank Orchestra.
Orv worked at Maysteel for 36 years and Serigraph for six years.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Judith (John) Hesprich of Horicon, Peter of Milwaukee, Susan (Rick) Wheeler of St. Claire Shores, Mich. and James (Paula) of Lomira; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Violet) of Fond du Lac; a sister-in-law, Helen Frank of Hartford; a son-in-law, Rob O'Dell of Horicon; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Dianne O'Dell in 1984, a son, Thomas in 1988 and a brother, Wilmer.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Bend.
Rev. John Paustian will officiate, and burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
Visitation at the church only will be Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
Deborah Marie Gross
Private services were held for Deborah Marie Gross (nee Butler), 46, of Random Lake, who died Jan. 18, 2001. Arrangements were handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton.
A graduate of Homestead High School and Concordia University Wisconsin, Mrs. Gross was a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee and a former dispatcher with the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department.
She is survived by her husband, Keith Gross of Random Lake, children and stepchildren Anthony Gross of Milwaukee, Eric Gross of Glendale, Timothy Hazen of Milwaukee, Robert Hazen of Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, Kyle Gross and Theodore Gross of Random Lake; parents Malcolm and Daisy Butler of Traverse City, Mich; sister Margery (John) Whalen of Hubertus and Kathryn (Thomas) Mantey of Madison, Ala.; brother James (Joanne) Butler of West Bend; brother-in-law Armond Gross of West Allis; uncle Ron Butler of Honor, Mich.; other relatives and friends.
The family extends special thanks to the physicians and nursing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee and the Milwaukee Medical Clinic Good Hope.

Anna Zacher
Anna Zacher, nee Kleba, 87, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.
She was born Sept. 28, 1913, in Milwaukee, to the late Martin and Clara Kleba, and married Harry Zacher in 1932.
He passed away in 1973.
Since August 1999, Anna has been a resident of the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.
Survivors include 10 children, Patricia (Donald) Boerner of West Bend, Patrick (Rosie) of Pewaukee, Mike (Marlene) of North Prairie, Harry Jr. of Milwaukee, Kathy (Joe) Stanke of New Berlin, Dennis (Bunny) of Hales Corners, John (Judy) of West Bend, Connie Zacher of Delafield, Ronnie (Dixie) of New Berlin and Gregory (Barbara) of Hales Corners; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; a sister, Tuty Weber of Glendale; a brother, Tommy (Sandy) of Milwaukee nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were two grandchildren, Sara Boerner and Randy Zacher; two brothers, Mush and Max; a sister-in-law, Lillian Kleba; and a brother-in-law, Buddy Weber.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend.
Father Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and burial will follow in Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Milwaukee.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m., and also Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
