Sister Francis Xavier Skupniewitz
Sister Francis Xavier Skupniewitz, SDS, 92, a resident of the Marian Franciscan Home, Milwaukee, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the home.
Rose Dolores Skupniewitz was born April 25, 1908, in Dalton, Wis., to the late Thomas and Mary Anna (Winiecki) Skupniewitz.
Sister Francis Xavier entered the Congregation Dec. 31, 1941, made First Vows Aug. 13, 1943 and Final Vows on Aug. 13, 1949, all at St. Mary's Convent, Milwaukee.
Before entrance, she studied nursing at St. Agnes School of Nursing, Fond du Lac, and took post graduate work at Illinois State School of Psychiatric Nursing.
Following this, she was supervisor in a psychiatric hospital.
Prior to entering the Congregation, she served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps at posts in Washington D.C., Colorado, California and Hawaii.
Using her nurse's training, Sr. Francis Xavier served at St. Mary's Hospital in Wausau, St. Mary's in Columbus, St. Joseph's Community Hospital in West Bend and Tekakwitha Nursing Home, Sisseton, S.D.
In 1967 she took over the dietary department at St. Joseph's Community Hospital in West Bend, where she served until her retirement to St. Mary's Convent, St. Nazianz in 1985.
Sr. Francis Xavier had a great love and interest in flowers and birds and also appreciated literature and poetry.
Survivors include a sister, Genevieve Hardy of Pardeeville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday in St. Mary's Nursing Home Chapel, Milwaukee, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.
Manita N. Meins
Manita N. Meins, 86, of the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend, formerly of Port Washington, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center where she had been a resident of the past 2 1/2 years.
She was born Sept. 4, 1914, in the town of Farmington, to the late John and Anna Eichmann Mueller.
On Dec. 7, 1940, she married Lester Meins in Fredonia, and the couple farmed in the town of Port Washington.
Her husband passed away in 1961.
Mrs. Meins was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Port Washington, and a member of the Keenagers group. She also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne (Judi) and Harland (Nanch), both of Port Washington; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren three step-great-grandchildren two brothers, Edward and Arthur (LaVerne) Mueller, both of West Bend.
Preceding her in death were a son, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 535 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington.
Rev. Bob Gossett, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Union Cemetery, Port Washington.
Friends may call at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Memorials to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church are appreciated.
Elfrieda Bruendl
Elfrieda Bruendl, 89, of Port Washington, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at her residence.
She was born June 18, 1911, in Cedarburg, to the late William and Mary Rohl Schubert.
On July 24, 1929, she married Mathias Bruendl Sr. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg.
He passed away in 1994.
Mrs. Bruendl was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene (Clarence) Voigt of West Bend; a son, Mathias (Viola) Bruendl Jr. of West Des Moines, Iowa.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two grandsons; a great-grandson; and a sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. a St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington.
Father Joseph Haas will officiate, and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Washington.
Friends may call at the church only on Saturday after 10 a.m.
A memorial fund has been established for St. Peter's Parish, the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
The Eernisee Funeral Home, Port Washington, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary W. "Minn" Bohn
Mary W. "Minn" Bohn, nee Kress, of West Bend, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at her residence, at the age of 93.
She was born Sept. 24, 1907, in the town of Farmington, to the late Nicholas and Josephine (nee Esselman) Krell, and married Harvey J. Bohn on July 9, 1935, at Holy Angels Church, West Bend.
From 1961 until 1972 she was a cook in the office kitchen at The West Bend Co.
Harvey passed away on Jan. 27, 1975.
Survivors include three children, Joanne (Donald) Bohn of Mesa, Ariz. and Peter W. Bohn and Carl A. (Sandra) Bohn, both of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Jon (Sue) Bohn, Ann (Jess) Gatlin, Kay (Scott) Matenaer, Steven Rolf, Sarah Rolf, Marie (Scott) Butts and Paul (Pam) Bohn; seven great-granddaughters; a sister-in-law, Adeline Krell; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, a sister and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. at Holy Angel's Catholic Church.
Father Scott Wallenfelsz will be the presider, and burial will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4:30 p.m. until the time of services.
Robert Stair Barber
Robert Stair Barber, 89, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in Webster, Texas.
He was born June 13, 1911, in Tyndall, S.D., to the late James Luther and Mayme Barber.
Robert graduated from the University of North Dakota and later taught school in Volga, S.D. and West Bend.
While in West Bend he helped to start a new church, Our Savior's Lutheran. While there he also began 52 years of service in the Kiwanis Club.
Robert began work at the West Bend Insurance Co. as a field agent and rose to to be president.
After retirement he moved to Texas where he was a member of the House of Prayer Lutheran Church for 21 years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Elinor Barber; a daughter, Judith Abel of Pleasantville, N.Y.; two sons, Gary (Matilde) Barber of Houston, Texas and Robert James (Jovita) Barber of Jalapa, Mexico; a brother, Joe Barber of Santa Fe, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, James Luther and two sisters, Elsie Barber and Faith Reidinger.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 1515 Bay Area Blvd., Webster, Texas, with pastor Marcus Otterstadt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Kiwanis International Foundation, P.O. Box 57730, Webster, Texas 77598.

Esther C. Aufdermauer
Esther C. Aufdermauer, nee Berres, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center, at the age of 89.
She was born June 11, 1911, in the town of Barton, to the late Anton and Mathilda (nee Otten) Berres, and married Armin W. Aufdermauer n May 21, 1930, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend.
Following their marriage the couple settled on the Berres homestead farm, which they farmed until 1990.
In 1992 they moved to the city of West Bend, and since 1996 she has been a resident of the Samaritan Health Center.
Her husband passed away on Dec. 8, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Leo (Christine) of Sturgeon Bay and Lyle (Katherine) of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren, Adam, Sarah and Abraham; and a sister-in-law, Verna Berres of West Bend.
Preceding her in death were five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church.
Father Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery (old).
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and also on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
