William C. Gerlach
William C. Gerlach, 70, of the town of Jackson, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.

He was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Milwaukee, to the late William J. and Alma V. (nee Kraus) Gerlach.

After graduating from North Division High School, he attended college for a year before enlisting in the United States Air Force. During the Korean Conflict, he served in Japan and also Iwo Jima.

Following his discharge, he married Gloria Plank on June 12, 1954, in Milwaukee.

For over 32 years, he was employed in the maintenance department at the former Continental Can Co. in Glendale, and in 1992 he retired after working for four years in building maintenance with Washington County.

In 1962 he and his family moved to Cedarburg, and since 1970 have lived in the town of Jackson.

While living away from the city, Bill grew to admire the different types of birds that would visit his home, especially songbirds.

He was a member of the Steel Workers of America, an active member of the council at Christ Lutheran Church in Jackson, a charter member of the Jackson Memorial Post 7240 VFW, and the SSgt. Henry F. Gumm Post 486 American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Gloria; three children, William E. (Sandra) of Hurley, Susan E. Gerlach of Slinger and Tina M. (Michael) Piekarski of Eden; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Mae (Harold) Weiss of Chino, Calif.; two brothers-in-law, Everett H. (Eileen) Plank of Mequon and Terrance V. (Valerie) Plank of DelCanto, Calif.; his best buddy Perpsey; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was a brother, Milton.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Jackson.

Rev. Robert McCelland will officiate, and burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from 3:30 to 6:15 p.m.

Memorials are appreciated.

The Schmidt Funeral Home of Jackson is serving the family.

Leo A. Brunner
Leo A. Brunner, 93, of West Bend, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

He was born April 6, 1907, in Barton to the late Theodore and Hulda (nee Schiemann) Brunner, and married Marilynne Wiltgen.

He later married Floretta Mauer on June 16, 1951, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in West Bend.

Leo worked as an intake foreman at the White House Milk Co. in West Bend for several years and then worked as a self-employed painter for many years until retiring from painting in 1972.

He also operated Brunner's Orchard for over 50 years where he grew apples, raspberries and strawberries and had the first "pick your own" strawberries in the area.

Leo loved hunting and trapping.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Beverly (Ray) Ertl of West Bend and their children, Susan Spencer of Orange Grove, Texas, Mark Ertl of Muskego, Michael (Rose-Ann) Ertl of West Bend and Sharon (Michael) Mouradian of West Bend; a son, Donald (Phyllis) Maurer of West Bend and their children, Eileen Hanrahan of Kewaskum, Lori Schmidt of West Bend, Terry (friend Angie) Maurer of West Bend, Gary (Amy) Maurer of Kewaskum and Kevin Maurer of West Bend; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Jack and Eugene, and a sister, Evelyn Verberg.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend.

Rev. Sharon Stier of Immanuel United Church of Christ will officiate and burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend, at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to the Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.

Joseph A. "Joe" Schwai
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church for Joseph A. "Joe" Schwai, 74. of Cedar Creek in the Town of Polk, who died on Dec. 19, 2000. Father Robert J. Bales officiated at the ceremony. Interment was at Cedar Creek Cemetery of the Town of Polk on Saturday. The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Schwai was born in Milwaukee on June 10, 1926 to Joseph and Marie (nee Pawelka) Schwai. On Oct. 27, 1951 he married LuAnn (nee Zuern) at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church.

For ten years, Joe worked for his parents and in 1957 Joe and LuAnn purchased Schwai’s Country Tavern, Store, and Hall of Cedar Creek, Town of Polk. Joe and LuAnn managed the tavern for forty-two years. He had his tree farm for over 36 years.

Survivors include: wife LuAnn; children: Michael (Cathy) Schwai of West Bend, Patricia (Gene) Puestow of Jackson, Susan (Steven) Giebel of Manitowoc, Thomas (Kathey) Schwai of Cedar Creek; 14 Grandchildren; sisters-in-law Rose Schwai of West Bend, Peggy (Robert) Stinson of Seattle, Wash., Donna Gehring of Hartford; brothers-in-law Rev. Ted Zuern S.J. of Washington, D. C., Thomas (Elaine) Zuern of Hartford.

Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Schwai, and brother-in-law James Gehring.

Memorials are appreciated to the St. Peter’s Building Fund or Threshold of West Bend.

Marlyn F. Oemichen
A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Marlyn F. Oemichen, 84, of Cedarburg, who died Dec. 24, 2000 at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee. The family will receive friends following the service.
Inurnment will be at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg. Arrangements are being handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.

He was born Dec. 15, 1916 in Turtle Lake, Wis., to the late William and Ida (nee Mohs) Oemichen. Mr. Oemichen married Jane Montaba in Cedarburg on Sept. 6, 1941.

A member of Advent Lutheran Church, Mr. Oemichen was a supervisor in the crankshaft division of Mercury Marine.

Survivors include his wife Jane Oemichen of Cedarburg; children Jane Stahmer of Cedarburg and Peter (Sandra) Oemichen of Oregon, Wis.; brother William (Lucy Lee) Oemichen of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; sister Vivian Humbert of Oxnard, Calif.; grandchildren John A. and Christopher Stahmer of Cedarburg and Ann and Jeff Oemichen of Oxnard, Calif.; other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church would be appreciated.

Ralph T. Noack
A funeral service will be held this evening for Ralph T. Noack, 65, of Two Rivers, formerly of Cedarburg, who died Dec. 24, 2000 at Sinai Samaritan Medical Center, Milwaukee.
Rev. R.E. McClelland will lead the 8 p.m. service, with burial at Immanuel Cemetery, Cedarburg. Arrangements are being handled by the Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.

Mr. Noack was born in Washington, Penn. on March 24, 1935, son of the late Paul and Mary (nee Tauzel) Noack. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-’56, and married Gertrude "Gerri" Frank on June 10, 1956.

Mr. Noack graduated from Penn State University in 1958, and retired from EST Company as a senior engineer after 25 years of service. Prior to moving to Wisconsin, he was involved with Boy Scouts, service organizations, youth groups and various church work. Before moving to Two Rivers, he attended Grace Lutheran Church in Grafton.

Survivors include his wife Gerri Noack of Two Rivers; son Donald (Diana) Noack of Grafton; daughters Kathy (David) Rintelman of Cedarburg and Deborah Noack of Orlando, Germany; sister Maryann (Charles) Sutton of Washington, Penn.; brother Edgar W. Noack of Washington, Penn.; grandchildren Audra, Andrew and Ashley Noack, Alexis (David Storms) Geib and Benjamin Geib; stepgrandchildren Ryan, Bradley and Nicole Rintelman; great-grandchildren Marcus, Andrew and Reyna Jean Noack. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl.

Memorials to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated.

Charles F. "Chuck" Heiser
Charles F. "Chuck" Heiser of Cedarburg died Dec. 24, 2000 at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee at the age of 53.
Services were held Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton. Interment is at the church Cemetery, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.

Mr. Heiser was born March 4, 1947 in Port Washington, son of the late Wilbur and Harriet (nee Schmitz) Heiser. He married Sue Hackbarth on Dec. 11, 1971 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Grafton.

Mr. Heiser was foreman for J&H Heating and Air Conditioning in Port Washington. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton, and longtime soccer coach for the Ozaukee Kickers select and club teams.

Survivors include his wife Sue Heiser of Cedarburg; children Jason, Jeremy and Jessica, all of Cedarburg; sisters Rachel (Larry) Lewandowski of Racine, Marie (Jack) Lemke of West Bend and Jeannette (Ed) Block of Vashon Island, Wash.; brothers Robert Heiser of Green Bay and Rick (Barb) Heiser of Waupaca; other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.

Norman O. Ehlke
Funeral services were held Friday at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church in Kirchhayn, for Norman O. Ehlke, 95, who died on Dec. 19, 2000. Burial was held at the church cemetery. Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Ehlke was born September 20, 1905 in Milwaukee to the late Samuel and Anna (nee Nienow) Ehlke and married Florence Kannenberg on June 20, 1935 at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church in Kirchhayn.

He farmed in the Town of Jackson and was a member at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church in Kirchhayn.

Survivors include his wife Florence of Jackson; daughter Sharon (Paul) Weis of Crystal Lake, Ill.; grandchildren, Jeanne (Paul) Swanson of Mundelein, Ill., Joanne (Mick) Urbanski of Round Lake Beach, Ill., Catherine Weis of Crystal Lake, Ill., Joseph Weis of Wheatridge, Colo., and Caroline (Dean) Gantz of Island Lake, Ill.; brothers; Wilmer (Norma) Ehlke of West Bend, Junior (Beata) Ehlke of Jackson; sisters Erna Gilbert of Jackson, Leona Hilgendorf of Menomonee Falls, and Hildegard (Walter) Eickstedt of Jackson; sister-in-laws; Myrtle Ehlke of Jackson and Lorraine Ehlke of Jackson; 5 great-grandchildren other relatives and friends.

Mr. Ehlke was preceded in death by children Virgil and Donna Mae, and brothers Clarence, Alfred and Herbert.

Memorials to the church are appreciated.
