Lucille S. Gaedtke
Lucille S. Gaedtke, nee Otten, formerly Daniels, of Marshfield, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at the Marshfield Center, at the age of 80.
She was born June 1, 1920, in Barton, to the late Anthony H. and Celia M. (nee Henry) Otten, and married George Daniels in 1941.
She later married Roy Gaedtke in 1960 in Tucson, Ariz.; he passed away in 1985.
Lucille was self employed and later was employed at Badger Lab in Jackson until her retirement.
Survivors include three children, Richard (Shari) Daniels of Marshfield, George (Kathleen) Daniels of Fredonia and Karie "Darlene" (Paul) Stevens of Gaithersburg, Md.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose (Charles) Hunt of Suwanee, Ga.; four brothers, Eugene (Suzie) Otten of West Bend, Hugh Otten of Racine, Leo "Whitey" (Betty) Otten of Campbellsport and Sylvester (Janet) Otten of Milwaukee; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her first husband and a sister, Mary King.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend.
Fr. Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and burial will follow in St. Mary's (old) Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Joseph A. "Joe" Schwai
Joseph A. "Joe" Schwai, 74, of Cedar Creek, town of Polk, was born into eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000.
He was born in Milwaukee on June 10, 1926, to the late Joseph and Marie (nee Pawelka) Schwai, and attended St. Leo's Catholic Grade School and Boy's Tech in Milwaukee for two years.
He moved to Cedar Creek in 1941 and graduated from Slinger High School in 1943.
He was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served as a cook. He was honorably discharged from the USS Cone in 1946.
On Oct. 27, 1951, Joe married LuAnn Zuern at St. Kilian's Catholic Church.
For 10 years Joe worked for his parents and in 1957 he and LuAnn purchased Schwai's Country Tavern, Store and Hall of Cedar Creek.
Joe and LuAnn managed the tavern for 42 years where Joe made the famous "Schwai's brats" and other German sausages. In the early years he slaughtered the animals. The couple also ran the liquor and beer depot for 20 years.
Joe loved nature and dearly cherished the pond, and had his tree farm for over 36 years.
He enjoyed hunting quail, pheasant, rabbit, ducks, geese, fox, deer and raccoon and trapped muskrats and mink. He fished for all types on many lakes.
All the hunting inspired the wild game feeds, complete with the Schwai's dumplings and red cabbage.
Joe and LuAnn cooked for Gehlfest in 1976 which constituted two nights a week for three weeks and fed 500 a night. Schwai's Catering was then started and is still being managed by Kathey and Tom Schwai.
The couple chartered trips to Nashville, Brewer games (including opening day trips), horseshoe, dart and pool tournaments and the famous Tiddley Winks tournaments. They also sponsored pool, baseball and bowling teams.
Schwai's hosted St. Patrick's Day parties for the Threshold benefit for 19 years and donated over $100,000 during that time. They sold "Green Pig" tickets and afghan raffles at the in-house raffles and gave part of the bar proceeds to The Threshold. They also sold 500 to 600 pounds of home cured corned beef and prepared it the same day.
Joe was a charter member and past president (1984) of the Slinger Allenton Rotary Club, a charter member and member for over 36 years of the town of Polk Planning Commission, a member of the American Legion Post 486 of Jackson and the Zunker-Held VFW Post 3358 of Slinger for over 50 years, West Bend Moose Lodge 1398 member for 49 years and Washington County Tavern League Association for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Michael (Cathy) of West Bend, Patricia (Gene) Puestow of Jackson, Susan (Steven) Giebel of Manitiwoc and Thomas (Kathey) of Cedar Creek; 14 grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Rose Schwai of West Bend, Peggy (Robert) Stinson of Seattle, Wash. and Donna Gehring of Hartford; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Ted Zuern S.J. of Washington, D.C., and Thomas (Elaine) Zuern of Hartford; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Robert, and a brother-in-law, James Gehring.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23, at noon at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger.
Father Robert J. Bales and Father Ted Zuern S.J. will officiate, and interment will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery, town of Polk, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the closing of the casket prayers at 11 a.m.
Memorials to St. Peter's Building Fund or The Threshold of West Bend are appreciated.
William C. "Bill" Palmer
William C. "Bill" Palmer, 83, of West Bend, formerly of Groverton, Ind., died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at the Samaritan Health Center.
He was born Oct. 10, 1917, in Groverton, Ind., to the late William and Stella (Boyer) Palmer, and was raised in Wheeler, Ind.
He was a dairy farmer in Indiana
until 1962 when he moved to Wisconsin and continued to farm.
Survivors include special friends, Charles J. Gernenz of West Bend, Charlotte Kelly of Indiana

, Daniel Hafeman and his two sons, Jonathan and Dustin; other relatives and friends.
Private funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend,with cremation at Parkview Cremations of Fond du Lac.
Arthur C. "Babe" Otto
Arthur C. "Babe" Otto, formerly of West Bend, was received into eternal life on Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at the age of 90.
He was born April 11, 1910, and was the beloved husband of the late Esther (nee Wartchow).
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Arlene) and William (Ann). He was the loving grandfather of Donald (Peggy), Kathleen, Michael (Jennifer) and Laura (Scott) Salaj; great-grandfather of Westan, Allan, Ryan, Nicole and Danika.
He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Arthur was a 45-year employee of Wisconsin Electric Power and a 65-year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical workers.
He was a resident at Cedar Ridge Campus of West Bend until May 1998 when he moved to Linden Ridge of Mukwonago where he passed away due to complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 22 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 7801 Lincoln Ave., West Allis, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. and burial in Highland Memorial Park, 14875 W. Greenfield Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Alzheimer's Association, 6130 W. National Ave., West Allis, 53214.

Norman O. Ehlke
Norman O. Ehlke, 95, of Jackson, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Virginia Highlands in Germantown.
He was born Sept. 20, 1905, in Milwaukee, to the late Samuel and Anna (nee Nienow) Ehlke, and married Florence Kannenberg on June 20, 1935, at David's Star Ev. Lutheran Church, Kirchhayn.
Norman farmed in the town of Jackson, and was a member of David's Star Ev. Lutheran Church, Kirchhayn.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharon (Paul) Weis of Crystal Lake, Ill; grandchildren, Jeanne (Paul) Swanson of Mundelein, Ill., Joanne (Mick) Urbanski of Round Lake Beach, Ill., Catherine Weis of Crystal Lake, Joseph Weis of Wheatridge, Colo. and Caroline (Dean) Gantz of Island Lake, Ill; two brothers, Wilmer (Norma) Ehlke of West Bend and Junier (Beata) Ehlke of Jackson; three sisters, Erna Gilbert of Jackson, Leona Hilgendorf of Menomonee Falls and Hildegard (Walter) Eickstedt of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Ehlke and Lorraine Ehlke, both of Jackson; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were two children, Virgil and Donna Mae, and three brothers, Clarence, Alfred and Herbert.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 22, at 3 p.m. at David's Star Ev. Lutheran Church, Kirchhayn, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services.

Nila Butzke
Nila Butzke, 58, of rural Campbellsport, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Horicon.
She was born June 8, 1942, in Corry, Pa., to the late Robert and Catherine (Maginnis) Smith, and on Oct. 21, 1961, married Glenn A. Butzke in Kohlsville.
Her husband passed away on June 18, 1995.
Mrs. Butzke was employed by the J.C. Penney Corp., West Bend branch, for 28 years until 1997.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane and the American Legion Auxiliary in Lomira.
Survivors include four daughters, Bonnie (Rev. Jay) Jaeger of Alden, Iowa, Gail (Tim) Kougl of Campbellsport, Shirley (Greg) Bokelman of Lomira and Donna (Mark) Ertel of Horicon; a sister, Beverly VanLuven; a brother, Robert Smith of Florida; 10 grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Shirley Smith; her stepmother, Catherine Smith; a brother-in-law, Wilson Oppermann; and a sister-in-law, Verna Oppermann.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane.
Rev. Mark Eckert will officiate, and burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
