Kathryn "Kay" Fransee
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Saukville for Kathryn "Kay" Fransee, 74, who died on Nov. 12, 2000. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born Sept. 4,1926 in Burlington, Iowa, daughter of the late John and Frances Denz Lau. On Aug. 30, 1947 she married Gene Fransee at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Saukville.

Survivors include: husband Gene of Saukville: children Mary (Paul) Springer of Phoenix, Ariz., Ann (George) Eger of Saukville, John (Penny) Fransee of Port Washington, Beth (John) Fredericksen of Cedarburg, Susie (Greg) Ollman of Fox Point and Amy (Dean) Radke of Saukville; 9 grandchildren; sisters Donna (Paul) Marsh of Crystal Lake, Ill. and Jean (Robert) Remm of Fox Point.

The family would like to give special thanks to the home caregiver and Heritage Nursing Home.

Memorials to Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin or charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.

Natalie L. Cory
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Nov. 4, 2000, at St. James Catholic Church, Mequon, with Interment at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee for Natalie L. Cory, 89, who died on Nov. 1, 2000.
Mrs. Cory was very active in early development of senior activities in the Mequon-Thiensville area.

Survivors include: children, William (Marlene) Cory of Mequon, Mary Richardson of Fort Worth, Texas, Bob Cory of Fox Point; grandchildren Julie (Mark) Polzin, Dr. David (Margaret) Cory, Dr. Patrick (Anne) Cory, Cay (Dr. David) deVlaming, Maj. Christopher (Sheila) Richardson, Meg (David) Toups, and Beth (Capt. Jason) Gannon.

She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, and a special cousin, June Utech Kern.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Reuben.

Mel H. Brehsmer
Mel H. Brehsmer died Nov. 7, 2000 in Chapel Hill, N.C., at the age of 92.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, Cedarburg.

Two wives preceded him in death, Gertrude (nee Groth) and Florence (nee McCoy).

Mr. Brehsmer began his career by teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Ozaukee County, and went on to be principal of the East Granville Elementary School in Milwaukee.

During World War II he headed personnel and industrial relations for Amco Metal in Milwaukee. Following the war he worked for the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. and ultimately was a manufacturer’s representative for major giftware companies working in Illinois and Florida.

He retired and moved to North Carolina in 1991.

Survivors include daughters Carolyn (Gene) Davenport of Fearrington Village, N.C. and Wendy (Gary) George of Valparaiso, Ind.; grandchildren Trudi Reinhard of Framingham, Ma., Dr. Randi Davenport and Traci Davenport, both of Chapel Hill, N.C., Brad George of Flower Mound, Texas and Jennifer Lee of Chicago; four great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Katherine Marie Bessey
Funeral services were held on Friday at Divine Word Catholic Church in Cedarburg for Katherine Marie Bessey, 85, who died on Nov. 15, 2000. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Grafton. Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born May 13, 1915 in Ashland, to the late John and Mary Ellen (nee Gerard) Brinker and married Rolland Bessey on July 9, 1942 in West Virginia

She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grafton.

Survivors include: children Ellen (Dennis) Faretta of Coloma, Deanna Modra of Edina, Minn., Patricia (Harold) Janke of West Bend, Michael R. (Debra) Bessey of Pound, Georgia (James) Battermann of Delafield, Robert (Holly) Bessey of Greensboro, N.C.; sisters Jayne Bergschneider of Ashland, Mary Ellen Melchoir of Oconomowoc; brother John Brinker of Three Lakes.

She is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice are appreciated.

Richard "Dick" Apple
A memorial service will be held on Dec. 2, 2000 at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Grand Junction, Colo. for Richard "Dick" Apple, 75, who died Nov. 9, 2000. An additional memorial service is being planned at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Brown Deer.
Mr. Apple was born on Aug. 28, 1925 in Paris, Ill., son of Charles and Frieda Apple. After graduating from high school he served in the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper in World War II. He married Phyllis Brady Gorham on April 14, 1950 and worked as an accountant and financial officer for a variety of companies. He purchased LaBudde Feed and Grain Co. which he led until his retirement.

He was a member of the church choir, an avid bridge player, golfer, tennis player, bicyclist, bowler and skier. He also performed as a character actor in community theater groups in Cedarburg and Grand Junction, Colo. He donated his time and money to worthy causes, such as meals for the poor and tax preparation for the elderly.

Survivors include: wife Phyllis; children Richard (Susan), Charles (Susan) and Martha (James); grandchildren Sarah, Charlie, Kristin and Carly; brothers Chuck and Ralph and sister Janet.

George T. Walsh Sr.
George T. Walsh Sr., 82, of West Bend, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Hartford, to the late George and Irma (nee Garvey) Walsh, and married Carol Maney on April 26, 1941, at St. Killian's Catholic Church, Hartford.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

George owned and operated Ernest-James Shoes in Menomonee Falls for many years and later worked in jewelry sales for many years.

He enjoyed the past 20 years of his retirement living on Wallace Lake.

Survivors include his wife; three children, George "Bud" (Mary Pat) Walsh Jr. of Menomonee Falls, Donald (Elaine) Walsh of Big Bend and Maureen (Len) Lipski of Beaver Dam; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hollenstein of Hartford; two brothers-in-law, Gerald (Lorraine) Maney of Mukwonago and Tom (Sharon) Maney of California; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was an infant grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, and entombment will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from noon until the time of services.

Martin C. "Marty" Redlin
Martin C. "Marty" Redlin, 72, of Slinger, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Hartford Memorial Hospital, Hartford.
He was born March 11, 1928, in Rubicon, to the late Norbert and Adela (Loeck) Redlin, and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

After his marriage to Charlotte J. Steele on May 4, 1955, at Peace Lutheran Church of Hartford, the couple lived in the Slinger area.

Marty was employed as a tool and die maker for The West Bend Co. for over 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was currently employed on a part-time basis at Erin Outdoor Power of Thompson.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Peggy (Randy) Krebs of St. Lawrence; three grandchildren, Dustin, Samantha and Jennifer; three sisters, Beatrice Wolf and Julie (Art) Jackson, both of Hartford, and Rachel Redlin of West Bend; a brother, Kenneth (Marion) Redlin of Oconomowoc; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was a son, Gary.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Hartford, the Kettle Moraine Model T Ford and Vintage Car Club, the 25-Year Club of The West Bend Co. and the 45th Division at Oklahoma City.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford.

Pastor Daniel Westendorf will officiate and interment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated to the American Kidney Foundation or Peace Lutheran Church of Hartford.

The Phillip Funeral Home of Slinger is assisting the family.

Clarence A. "Shortie" Kohl
Clarence A. "Shortie" Kohl, 92, of Hubertus, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at St. Therese Chapel, Holy Hill (lower church).

The family will greet relatives and friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, with a prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m.

Ward E. "Bud" Knoebel
Ward E. "Bud" Knoebel, 82, of West Bend, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at the Samaritan Health Center.
He was born April 16, 1918, in Waukesha, to the late Albert and Meta (Peters) Knoebel, and married Jane E. Kluever on Sept. 28, 1940, at Holy Angels Rectory.

She passed away on March 10, 1991.

Bud attended Slinger High School where he played on the school's first football team. For many years, he also played baseball on various teams in the area.

After many years of dedicated service, Bud retired from Ataco Steel Products Co.

He loved spectator sports in later years, and thoroughly enjoyed vacationing in the north woods.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary (Tony) Spaeth of West Bend, Kay (Harry) Chesak of Newburg, Joan (Marcel) Lindert of Monona and Ruth (Jack) Reis of West Bend; 16 grandchildren, Connie, Janet, Tony, Sue, Patty, Jeff, Russ, Kris, Sherry, Tom, Lisa, Jon, Steve, Dan, Jill and Jenny; 25 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Eryn, Andy, Aaron, Lindsey, Chuck, Kevin, John Jr., Ashley, Jeffrey, Erica, Samantha, Heidi, Garrett, Gabrielle, Josh, Abigail, Joey, Isaac, Anna, Mitchell, Keaton, Hailey, Allisa and Connor; a sister-in-law, Audrey (Hugh) Garnett of Charlottesville, Va.; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a grandson, Michael Spaeth; a sister, Helen (Maurice) Schloemer; a brother, Norman (Aria) Knoebel; and a brother-in-law, Casper Miceli.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend.

Rev. Gerald Brittain will be the presider, and burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
