Herman F. Casper, 66
Herman F. Casper, 66, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Nov.10, 1999, at Columbia Hospital, Milwaukee.
He was born March 27, 1933, in Newburg, to the late Alex and Cecelia (nee Fischer) Casper.
After his marriage to Ann Matenaer on Sept. 3, 1955, at Holy Angels Church, West Bend, they settled in the town of Trenton.
Herman was employed as a carpenter for Lawrence Stockhausen for more than 45 years.
He enjoyed fishing, especially at his lake home on Moose Lake in Hayward.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Tony of Theresa, Ted (Jenny) of West Bend, Matt of Green Bay and Tim (Kristin) of Newburg; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice (Don) Odgers of Rubicon, Elaine Dille of Round Rock, Texas and Carole (David) Sauer of Oconomowoc; two brothers, John and Philip (Janet), both of West Bend. He is the brother-in-law of Beatrice (Leonard) Peter of Campbellsport, Rita (Charles) Dwyer and Sylvia (Leroy) Bohn, both of West Bend, Joseph (Euna) Matenaer of Stevensville, Mich., Jerry (Diane) Matenaer of Tempe, Ariz., Jim (Kitty) Matenaer of Peoria, Ariz., Bob (Carol) Matenaer of Menomonee Falls and Janice Matenaer of West Bend. Further surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was a brother-in-law, Paul Matenaer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church. Father Gerald Brittain will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the 8 p.m. prayer vigil, and also on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
Memorials may be given to Holy Angels Church Foundations for the Future.
Lester O. Sonnenberg, 93
Lester O. Sonnenberg of Kewaskum, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at his residence, at the age of 93.
He was born Dec. 9, 1905, in Athens, to the late August and Frieda (nee Beyer) Sonnenberg, and at early age the family moved to West Bend where Les was employed as a mason until retiring in 1978.
On Dec. 9, 1978, he married Virginia (nee Serwe) Roehrdanz in Kewaskum.
Les was an avid fast-pitch softball pitcher for many years, a lover of the outdoors doing much fishing and hunting, and not missing a deer hunting season since he was 13 years old.
He was also an accomplished horseshoe player and pool player, winning many trophies and awards.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Nancy (Duane) Simon of West Bend and Barbara (Allen) Peters of Reedsville; four stepchildren, Cheryl (Carl) Klemme of Kewaskum, Janet Riedel of Fond du Lac, Deb (Syl) Schoofs of Green Bay and Lee Roehrdanz of Portland, Ore.; a son-in-law, Gerald Haessley of Spooner; 15 grandchildren; 10-step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Audrey Krueger of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Violet Sonnenberg of Tomahawk; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Janice Haessley on March 27, 1995, and nine brothers and sisters.
Private family graveside services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
Eugene A. Achterberg
Eugene A. Achterberg of Hustisford passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999 at the age of 67 years. Gene was born March 18, 1932 in Portage, WI, son of Louis and Marie (nee Butterfield). He was married to Mary Braun, July 27, 1957 at St. John’s Ev. Church, in Rock Springs, Wisconsin. Gene is preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Gene retired from AMPI where he worked for 32 years. He was a past commander of American Legion Post #420 of Hustisford. Gene was a great outdoorsman. He loved to fish, play golf, play cards and mow lawns in his spare time. Gene will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife Mary (nee Braun) of Hustisford, his daughter Connie (Glenn) Woodward of Plymouth, IN and his son Robert (Martha) Achterberg of Hustisford. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandon, Allison, Justin, Ryan (Brenda), Rachel, Nichole and Jesse, 3 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, and Hunter, his sister, Betty (Robert) Christenson of Portage, WI, his brothers, James (Mary) Achterberg, of Seattle, WA, and Charles (Joyce) Achterberg of Branson, MO, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Monday, Nov. 29, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Berndt Funeral Home, 150 W. Oak Grove, St. Juneau, WI. The funeral service followed at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, Reverend David W. Meister officiating. Interment took place at Hustisford Cemetery and military honors were conducted under the Auspice of Hustisford American Legion Post #420.
Gilbert J. ‘Gil’ Foege Jr., 44
Gilbert J. "Gil" Foege Jr., of West Bend, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Wauwatosa, at the age of 44.
He was born April 6, 1955, in Milwaukee to Gilbert J. and Violet (nee Ash) Foege.
In 1982 he moved to Newburg then to Allenton, and since 1992 has lived in West Bend.
Gil was employed at Bob Fish Pontiac-Buick-GMC for many years, and at the time of his death was the manager of the body shop.
Gil loved the outdoors and was an avid camper.
Survivors include his fiancee, Colleen Prasad of West Bend; his mother, Violet Foege of Jackson; three sisters, Carol (Dan) Satonica of Germantown Diane (Jim ) Strege of Watertown and Susan (Richard) Fedorski of Slinger; two daughters, Angela and Michelle Foege, both of Kewaskum; a stepdaughter, Teri Mullikin of Madison; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was his father on Feb. 2, 1999.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at noon at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Main Street (Highway 60) in Jackson. Rev. William Gruenstern will officiate, and burial will follow in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Jackson.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 10 to 11:45 a.m.
George John Ronan Jr., 76
George John Ronan, Jr., 76, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Big Cedar Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at his residence.
He was born May 12, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Myrna; children, Margaret Ronan, Keith Ronan and George Ronan III; stepchildren, Jennifer Lone Shull, Diana Lone Elston, Timothy Lone and Steven Krenzien; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Ingeborg, and a daughter, Rhonda.
George will be buried at sea as was his request.
Henry A. "Skip" Scandrett Jr.
A memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Ozaukee Country Club, 10823 N. River Rd., Mequon, for Henry A. "Skip" Scandrett Jr., 69, who died Oct. 6, 1999. The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Schramka-Densow Funeral Home, Thiensville.
Survivors include wife Joan (nee Kaiser) Scandrett; children Barbara (Stuart) Kaufman, Charles Whipple (Sandy) Scandrett, Janet (Randy) Hunt, Shari (Dan) Summers and Sandy Scandrett; special grandchildren Stephanie, Kristin, Lauren and Beth Kaufman, Jessica, Andrew, Thomas and James Scandrett, Joshua, Matthew and David Hunt, Stacey and Daniel Summers; other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to extended family members Lorane, Ann Marie, Bessie, Beverly, Joan and their families.

Regina R. Roeckl, 78
Regina R. Roeckl, nee Thomas, of Newburg died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital-Ozaukee at the a age of 78.
She was born Oct. 9, 1921, in the town of Cedarburg, to the late Edward and Barbara (nee Hentges) Thomas.
After her marriage to Joseph Roeckl on May 11, 1946, at St. Francis Borgia Church, Cedarburg, the couple settled on a farm which she and her husband operated until the time of her death.
She loved playing sheepshead and growing and tending her flowers.
Regina was a member of the Christian Women's Confraternity at Holy Trinity Church, Newburg.
Survivors include her husband; three children, Jerome of Newburg, Marilyn (Eugene) Mayer of Fredonia and Arlene (Ken) Roskopf of Shawano; eight grandchildren, Julie and Brenda Roskopf, Linda (Scott) Szczerbinski, Patricia, Laurie, Mark, Amy and Jeff Mayer; two sisters, Sr. Mary Ann Thomas S.S.M. of Oshkosh and Alice (Leo) Schickert of West Bend; two brothers, Lawrence (Lucille) of West Bend and Ralph (Hildegard) of Cedarburg; a brother-in-law, Edmund (Esther) Roeckl of Racine; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Audrey Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, at Holy Trinity Church, Newburg. Father Robert Sampon will be the presider, and burial will be Tuesday in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Monday from 4 to 7:15 p.m.

Lisa Marie Czajna (nee Waters)
Lisa Marie Czaja (nee Waters) of Ogdensburg, Wis. has died.
The beautiful daughter of Amy and Joseph Waters; wife of Jim Czaja; passionate mother of Jason and Jody; daughter-in-law of Mary (Czaja) and Roland Rate; and dear sister of Ellen, Eric, Fred and Joe.
Her presence in our lives is powerful and strong. Her enthusiasm for adventure led her to travel far and share her free spirited love with many. We invite all of those who have ever shared a smile with Lisa to come and celebrate her beautiful essence.
We shall gather at the Edge of Town Hall in Manawa on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. with a memorial celebration of Lisa’s life at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the children.
The Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa is assisting the family.
