Daniel Bissell
Daniel J. Bissell, 40, of California, formerly of Ashland, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2002, in Los Angeles, Calif. as the result of a motorcycle accident. Dan was born April 9, 1962 in Ashland, the son of Reuben J. and Betty J. (Shuga) Bissell.
He graduated from Ashland High School in 1980 and graduated from Western Technical Institute in La Crosse in 1983 with highest academic honors and was listed in "Who's Who" in junior colleges. He fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving to California in 1983. He worked at May's and Bullocks in retailing and marketing. He later joined GAB Services, Inc. as an insurance adjuster. He completed further courses of study in insurance adjusting and advanced courses in property and casualty insurance management.
He most recently worked for Westfield Corporation, Inc. first as an insurance administrator and then as a litigation analyst. He served as president of his condominium homeowners association for over 10 years. He was a volunteer for various civic groups in Pasadena. His hobbies included his pets, antique car, motorcycling, plants, gardening, studying architecture, woodworking and music. He loved stage plays and concerts and traveling in the U.S. and Europe. He participated in numerous motorcycle rides to raise funds for charities.
Survivors include his parents, Reuben and Betty Bissell of Ashland; sister, Nancy (Melvin Nelson) Bissell of Ashland; brother, William (Linda) Bissell of Ashland; nephew, Bill Bissell and nieces, Jamie and Nikki Bissell.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the United Presbyterian and First Congregational Church in Ashland with Dr. Darrel M. Robertson officiating.
Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Bayfield, at a later date.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday.
The Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland and Mellen, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
Kathryn Stieber
FIFIELD — Kathryn Jane Stieber, 72, Fifield, died in the Flambeau Medical Center in Park Falls on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.
She was born on Aug. 27, 1929, in Berlin, the daughter of Joseph and Rosetta Bombinski. She was married to John “Jack” Stieber in Berlin on June 21, 1948. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Wisconsin State University-La Crosse, and her Master’s Degree from Wisconsin State University-Oshkosh. She was a Physical Education teacher, teaching in Ladysmith, Stevens Point, and Sheboygan. She worshiped at Holy Cross. She was a Green Bay Packers season ticket holder for 44 years, and was a member of the Packer Partners.
She is survived by her husband John “Jack”; and one sister, Mary Ellen Lambuda, Berlin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Tom Bombinski.
Inurnment will be in the Kohler Cemetery in Kohler.
The Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips assisted the family with arrangements.
Clyde Kenyon
PARK FALLS — Clyde R. Kenyon, 88, Park Falls, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls. He was born on July 10, 1914, in Woodruff, the son of Harry and Anna (Olson) Kenyon.
He graduated from Phillips High School in 1932. On May 11, 1940, he married Alice Riha in Chicago, Ill. He was a foreman with U.S. Steel in Chicago until moving his family to Phillips in 1953 to operate the Snack Shop, where he and his wife were lovingly known as "Ma and Pa" by the patrons. He had been a resident of Park Falls since 1956, where he drove delivery truck for Flambeau Beverage, Heci Beverage, and managed Double Cola Bottling until his retirement. He also owned and operated the Kenyon Motel (now Hilltop Motel) from 1956 until 1964.
He is survived by, his wife Alice of Park Falls; two sons: Kenneth (Jolene) Kenyon of Verona; and William (Susan) Kenyon of Libertyville, Ill.; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his brother ElsworLh (Rosemary) Kenyon of Olympia, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Eileen Baratka and Beatrice Zierer, and three brothers: Harold, Claire, and Glen Kenyon.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. from St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Park Falls. Fr. James Jackson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Padua Center.

Arlene Markle
PARK FALLS — Arlene E. Markle, 91, of Park Falls, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips.
Arlene was born Feb. 13, 1911, at Stoddard, to Ferdinand and Alma (Krause) Kapanke. On Sept. 16, 1933, she married Robert B. Markle in La Crosse and lived in Mellen and Park Falls. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a son, John Markle, of Earp, Calif., and a daughter, Marilyn Switzer, of Smithsburg, Md.; one brother, Gerhard Kapanke, of La Crosse; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls at 11 a.m. on Saturday with visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will be in Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.
Novitzke Funeral Home of Park Falls is assisting the family.
Beulah Ringersma
PHILLIPS — Beulah Marvaline Ringersma, 81, Phillips, died in the Pleasant View Nursing Home on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002.
She was born in Park Falls on May 24, 1921, the daughter of Nels and Victoria Stenlund. She was married to Harold Merrill on May 23, 1921, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1945. She was married to Henry Ringersma in Phillips on Feb. 1, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1992. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Phillips. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, gardening, baking, and knitting.
She is survived by nine children, Phyllis Catchpole, Phillips, Barbara (Kent) Englund, Evansville, Grace Olson, Phillips, Linda Janacek, Phillips, Duane (Sharon), Phillips, Joan (Dave Hrabak) Ringersma, Phillips, Daniel (Charmaine), Phillips Debra (John) Stirmel, Phillips, and Donald (Debbie), Phillips; 32 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Merrill on Aug. 25, 1945; her husband, Henry Ringersma on Feb. 23, 1992; one daughter, Gloria Baran; one grandchild, Peggy Mae Catchpole Root; four brothers, Mark, Lester, Swede, and Wayne Stenlund; and two sisters, Delores Duplanty, and Elenor.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at the Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, with the Rev. Thomas Reiff officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips.
