Mary Moorhead
PHILLIPS — Mary Louise Moorhead, 81, died at her home in Phillips, Town of Harmony, on Thursday, April 5. She was born in Bowman, Ark., on December 12, 1919 to Oscar J. and Kitty Bell Bowman.
She married Vernon Moorhead in San Francisco in 1948. The lived for many years in the Town of Harmony. She was employed by the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips.
Mary was a member of the Phillips Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips on Monday, April 9, after 6 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the Phillips Kingdom Hall of the Phillips Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10. Interment will be in the Town of Harmony Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon Moorhead, of Phillips; two sons, Virgil L. Gwin and Dan W. Moorhead, both of Phillips; two grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
The Heindl funeral home in Phillips is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Verna Olafson
PARK FALLS — Verna Olafson, age 83, of Park Falls, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at the Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls.
She was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Butternut, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Brietenfeld) Traxel. Her early life and schooling were in Butternut. She married Adolph Olafson on Jan. 18, 1941, in Butternut. The couple later moved to Park Falls. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Adolph, of Park Falls; three children, Gene (Diane) Olafson of Sheboygan Falls; Larry (Kathy) Olafson and Donna (Bob ) Mader, both of Park Falls; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ellen Herbst, and one brother, Harland Traxel.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 9, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls, with the Rev. Bryan Lundquist officiating. Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls.
The Novitzke Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Thomas Kane
Thomas D. Kane, 72, 75420 Kaukamo Rd. Iron River, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at North Memorial Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn. He was born March 26, 1929 in Cadott, the son of Thomas and Anna Kane.
Thomas married Evelyn C. Cloke on April 8, 1950, in Cadott. From 1958 until 1978 he drove truck for Nick and Sons Casket Company in Tomahawk. He worked for the Anson and Gillkey Door Manufacturing Company in Merrill from 1978 until 1982. He moved to Iron River in 1984 where he worked on his dairy farm until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Kane of Iron River; eight children, Donnie (Melody) Kane, Iron River; Elaine Weisman, Merrill, Joey (Suzette) Kane, Carlsbad, N.M., Jeffrey Kane, Tomahawk, Kenny (Maxine) Kane, Gleason, Alfred Kane, Iron River, Randy (Linda) Kane, Maple and Mark Kane, Iron River; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Sam (Babe) Kane, Chippewa Falls, Eddy (Ernie) Kane, Chippewa Falls and Jack (Audrey) Kane, Milwaukee; two sisters, Mary Anne Wrock of Jim Falls and Sally (Jerry) Chepek, Cadott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Tommy in 1958; a granddaughter, Anna Marie in 1981; three brothers, Dickie Kane, Mike Kane and Robert Kane and a sister, Jeanette Olson.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., today at the Roberts Funeral Home, Ashland, with Rev. Carl Doerscb officiating.
Spring burial will be held at the Iron River City Cemetery.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service today at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland.
Mary Meredith
Mary Meredith, 91, 450 Lake Drive, formerly of 106 Crestview, Mellen, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Mellen Manor, Mellen. She was born Aug. 14, 1909, in Pence, the daughter of Peter and Mayme (Perusso) Biolette.
She was married to Arthur T. Meredith on June 1, 1940, at Mellen. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan (Roger) Jaeger, Mellen; two grandchildren, Jean Slayton and Thomas (Kay) Jaeger; a great-granddaughter, Meagan Jaeger; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur, on Oct. 3, 1966; a brother, Peter; and a sister, Ann Kondrad.
A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mellen, with Fr. John Scheer celebrant.
Interment will be at Mellen Union Cemetery at a later date.
The Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland, Bayfield and Mellen, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lester Bacholl
PRENTICE — Lester William Bacholl, 73, of Prentice, died at his home on Saturday, June 30, 2001. He was born in Medford to William and Emily Bacholl.
Lester married Joyce Guzinski at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Prentice on October 25, 1958.
He served his country in the U.S. Army of occupation in Japan following WWII. He later operated a dairy farm in the Town of Prentice and logged. He enjoyed his work horses, using them in his logging operations and entering them in horse pull competitions. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Prentice and of the Southern Price County V.F.W. Post 8491.
Lester is survived by his wife, Joyce; by seven children: David Bacholl, DeFores; Laurie (Robert) Feenstra, and Lisa (William) Purdy, both of Marshfield; Michael (Helen) Bacholl, Daniel Bacholl, and Christine Record, all of Prentice; Joseph Bacholl of Missouri. He is further survived by his 10 grandchildren and by one sister, Corrine Birk of Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Prentice with Fr. Dismas Kalcic celebrating the Funeral Mass.
Interment will be in the Prentice Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Southern Price County V.F.W.. Post No. 8491.
Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice after 5 p.m. on Monday, July 3; at 7 p.m. the Parish Wake Service will be conducted.
Elsie Lampella
Elsie M. Lampella, 82, of Washburn, passed away July 1 at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on February 13, 1919 in Ironwood, Mich. to John and Halda (Mann) Worlin.
She married Francis J. Lampella in September of 1945 in Washburn. Elsie started raising her family in Washburn before moving to Waukegan, Ill. She worked a few years for the dental supply company in Waukegan. She also worked in several homes as a cook and housekeeper.
In 1981, the couple moved back to Washburn for their retirement. Elsie was a member of the Assembly of God church in Washburn. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and sewing.
Elsie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Francis J. Lampella of Washburn; two daughters, Shirley (Ed) Baldwin of Kenosha, Wis. and Carol Partridge of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons, Dennis (Lupe) Lampella of Belize, Central America and Mark (Jennifer) Hanson of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Dorcus, Dinah, Debby, Jerry and Damarris Lampella, Dean, Daryl and Dan Gilbertson, John Partridge, and Daniel and David Hanson; a great-grandson, Willie Gilbertson; two brothers, Armas (Ruth) Worlin of Saxon and Rudolph (Helen) Worlin of Waukegan, Ill.; along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Deanna Gilbertson; and three sisters, Ruth, Eunice and Ester.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 6 at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn with Rev. Allen Worlin officiating.
Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Washburn.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Bratley Funeral Home on Friday.
