Dorothy Kadlecek
PHILLIPS — Dorothy Kadlecek, 77, Park Falls, former Phillips resident, died in the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff on Monday, April 2, 2001.
She was born in Edgar on March 28, 1924, the daughter of Louis and Emma Dvorak. She moved to Phillips with her family as a child, and attended school in Phillips. She was married to George Kadlecek in Prentice on May 4, 1946. Shortly after their marriage they moved to California. In the early 1950s, they returned to Phillips, where they owned and operated the Lucky Bar until the time of their retirement in 1969. In 1997, she moved to Park Falls. In her free time she enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, playing card and board games, and enjoying time with her family and friends.
She is survived by three children, David (Sandy), Patrick (Phyllis), and Shirley (Mike), all of Phillips; one brother, Louis (Polly) Dvorak, Phillips; one sister, Emily (David) Davis, Phillips; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on Oct. 9, 1969.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, in the Heindl Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Miller of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday after 5:30 p.m., and on Friday until the time of services.

Glenn Carbon
Glenn A. Carbon, 73, Route 1, Box 202, Highbridge, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. He was born January 26, 1928, in Highbridge, the son of Andrew J. and Myrtle Carbon.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II. It was at this time he met a young woman in the Woman's Land Army in England. On Oct. 27, 1948, he and Doreen I. Ducy vere united in marriage at Wisbech Cambridgeshire, England. He was a lifelong resident of the Highbridge area and worked at the L. P. Plant in Mellen as a lathe operator for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family, whom he loved very much.
Survivors include three sons, David (Karen) of Highbridge, Timothy (Jeanine), Highbridge and Glenn, Jr. (Gail) of Ramsey, Mich.; five daughters, Christine Brown-Bennett of Wisbech Cambridgeshire, England, Susan (Stanley) Carbon, Las Vegas, Nev., Linda (Thomas) Campy of Highbridge, Denise (Patrick) Kear, Jr., Fayetteville, North Carolina and Lisa Carbon of Mellen; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth (Steve) Karaba of Ashland and Alice (Ken) Rill of Milwaukee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doreen on Aug. 13, 2000; many brothers and sisters; one grandson, Thomas Lampson.
A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Highbridge with Father John Scheer as celebrant.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
The Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland, Bayfield and Mellen, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Elaine Foster Hambrecht
Elaine Foster Hambrecht went to join her friends in heaven on Tuesday, April 3, 2001, after a brief illness, with her family by her side. Elaine Beryl Foster was born January 2, 1920, to Fred Edward Foster and Jessie Elaine (Moore) Foster in Little Suamico, Wis.
She moved to Madison to attend Madison Business College in 1936. After graduating she worked for the Wisconsin State Board of Health - Bureau of Vital Statistics. She married Duane Austin Hambrecht and together they raised two great boys. Later, she became vice president of Visual Education Consultants, where she worked for 31 years before retiring. Upon retiring she moved to Cable, Wisconsin and Weslaco, Texas. Elaine claimed not to be a winter Texan but a summer Wisconsinite. She always enjoyed her return trips to Wisconsin.
Elaine is survived by her two sons, Allen Foster (Carol) Hambrecht of Middleton; and Dean Austin (Amy) Hambrecht of Cable; three grandchildren, Marijca, Arielle and Dena Hambrecht; one sister, Lucille Foster of Merrimac, Wisconsin; one brother, Fred Lawrence (Joyce) Foster of West Allis; two nephews, Steven and Robert Weynand; and six nieces, Betty, Bonnie, Linda, Lisa Weynand, Jane Cowan and Jill Black.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.
Elaine lived life to the fullest, did everything she wanted to and decided it was time to go. Please don't weep.
A memorial service is planned for July, to be held in Mason at the Birch Lake Church.

Mary Adeline Kropp
PARK RAPIDS, Minn. — Mary Adeline Kropp, age 93, of Park Rapids, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. Mary was born on August 28, 1907, in Floresta, Colo., to Anton and Emily (Skender) Radosevich.
As a young girl, Mary and her family moved to Benoit. It was in this same area that she graduated from Mason High School and grew into womanhood. Mary went on to attend college and received her teaching degree. She became a grade school teacher and later a high school teacher. She taught in Wisconsin for nearly 20 years. In 1947 she moved to Park Rapids, Minn., where she taught junior high students at the Park Rapids Middle School. It was in Park Rapids that she met Roy Kropp. The two were united in marriage on November 28, 1953, in Ashland. The young couple bought a home in Park Rapids. In 1953 she became the Park Rapids High School librarian. In 1972, Mary retired from the Park Rapids High School. Mary and Roy moved out of town and made their home on Portage Lake near Park Rapids. Roy passed away in 1993. Mary continued to live on her own until recently when she became a resident of the Heritage Living Center.
Mary loved to fish in both the summer and winter on Portage Lake with Roy. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed planting a large vegetable garden each spring. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Park Rapids.
She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Edward (Usteana) Radosevich of Minocqua; three sisters: Annie Porvick of Denver, Colo.; Emily Carson of Waukesha; and Ethel Bolka of Milwaukee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; five brothers: Frank, Raymond, Joseph, Tony and Matthew; and a sister Lena.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church in Park Rapids, with Father Rick Boyd officiating.
Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be in the National Cemetery at Fort Snelling in St. Paul, Minn. The ladies of St. Peters will be hosting a luncheon immediately following the service on Saturday.

Thomas Kane
Thomas D. Kane, 72, 75420 Kaukamo Rd. Iron River, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at North Memorial Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn. He was born March 26, 1929 in Cadott, the son of Thomas and Anna Kane.
Thomas married Evelyn C. Cloke on April 8, 1950, in Cadott. From 1958 until 1978 he drove truck for Nick and Sons Casket Company in Tomahawk. He worked for the Anson and Gillkey Door Manufacturing Company in Merrill from 1978 until 1982. He moved to Iron River in 1984 where he worked on his dairy farm until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Kane of Iron River; eight children, Donnie (Melody) Kane, Iron River; Elaine Weisman, Merrill, Joey (Suzette) Kane, Carlsbad, N.M., Jeffrey Kane, Tomahawk, Kenny (Maxine) Kane, Gleason, Alfred Kane, Iron River, Randy (Linda) Kane, Maple and Mark Kane, Iron River; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Sam (Babe) Kane, Chippewa Falls, Eddy (Ernie) Kane, Chippewa Falls and Jack (Audrey) Kane, Milwaukee; two sisters, Mary Anne Wrock of Jim Falls and Sally (Jerry) Chepek, Cadott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Tommy in 1958; a granddaughter, Anna Marie in 1981; three brothers, Dickie Kane, Mike Kane and Robert Kane and a sister, Jeanette Olson.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday at the Roberts Funeral Home, Ashland, with Rev. Carl Doerscb officiating.
Spring burial will be held at the Iron River City Cemetery.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland.
Theresa ‘Tess’ Fleck
ELY, Minn. — Theresa R. "Tess" Fleck, 74, of Babbitt, Minn., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing home. She was born on Nov. 9, 1926, in Ashland to Murriel and Mary (Warner) Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and a brother, her son Tim Fleck and a daughter Lori Fleck.
Survivors include her husband Ted; four daughters: Janet (Sherman) Tompkin of Munford, Tenn.; Joanne (Duane) DeHate of Ashland; Patricia (Duncan) Anderson of Savannah, Ga., and Toni Fleck of Mt. Iron, Minn.; two sons: Jim Moe of Shakopee, Minn. and Ted “Skip” Fleck of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister Shirley Homan of Mesa, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 2 until the funeral service at 3 P.M. Saturday in Evangelical Lutheran church in Babbitt with Pastor Chuck Barnes officiating.
Burial will follow in Argo Cemetery.
