Loraine Dettmann
After a long battle the Lord called Loraine Selma Dettmann home on March 9, 2005. She was 89 years old. Loraine was born on May 9, 1915 in Random Lake, daughter of Dr. William and Selma Capelle Dettmann.
Loraine was a graduate of Milwaukee State Teachers College. She taught in the Appleton school system at the start of her career. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Milwaukee for the next twenty-four years. Loraine then worked for Badger Tag and Label and concluded her career at the Random Lake Co-op.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Dorothy Schuch of Fond du Lac; a nephew, Dan Dettmann of Green Bay; two nieces, Jane (Tom) Henderson of Sun Prairie and Mary Beth (Roy) Swenson of Marshall. Also great nephews Dan (Tracy) Henderson of Sun Prairie (sons Zach and Jake) and Paul Swenson of Columbus; great niece Amy (Blake) Edwards of Phillips (daughter Morgan and son Austin). Loraine was loved by all of us.
Loraine was preceded in death by her parents Dr. William and Selma Capelle Dettmann and her beloved brother Dr. Ralph Dettmann.
The surviving family would like to thank the staff at Gables on The Pond, Random Lake, and Heartland Hospice for her care. A special thanks to Ken Borchardt and Rev. Marilyn Borchardt for their kindness and helpfulness over a period of years.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 2PM at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 98 Random Lake Rd, in Random Lake. Rev. Earl Kruse will officiate. Interment will take place in the Boltonville cemetery on the family lot. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Saturday from 12:30 PM until the time of services at 2PM. Memorials in Loraine’s name may be made to St. John’s UCC.
Elizabeth Sandford
Liz Sandford (Lucy Elizabeth), 88, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Harbor Cove, 425 W. Walters, Port Washington, where she had resided for the past 16 months.
Liz was born March 2, 1916 in Bannister, Michigan. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Liz graduated from Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in 1938 in Flint, Michigan.
She joined the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in February 1942. She served during WWII in Africa and Italy. 1st Lt. Sandford was discharged in 1946 with a Meritorious Service Unit Plaque and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Following her military service she graduated from Columbia University in NY, NY. with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1948.
Liz moved to Milwaukee in 1952 to become the Director of Nurses at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital. Later she became the Assistant Hospital Administrator at Children’s.
Liz had summered on Mondloch Dr., Belgium beginning in 1962. She retired in 1978 to Belgium where she lived until 1997. She resided in a Senior Citizen complex in Kewaskum before moving to Harbor Cove.
Liz was a lover of children, books, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.
Liz was a member of the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park. She volunteered in the concession stand at the Park.
Nieces, a nephew and friends survive Liz.
A Celebration of Life will be held the end of July, 2005. Her body was cremated and the ashes will be spread at that time.

EARL F. SCHLENVOGT
Earl Schlenvogt, age 83 years of 4244 County Hwy. H, Port Washington died Wednesday evening, February 23, 2005 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born June 18, 1921 in the Town of Fredonia, son of the late Emil and Elizabeth Kranz Schlenvogt. On November 13, 1943 he married
Arlene Jaeger at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Earl lived his entire live on the family homestead where he enjoyed the love of farming, field work and his cattle. He was a life-long member of Friedens Evangelical Church, and was a member of the Town of Port Washington Board of Appeals, Ozaukee County Farm Bureau and various agricultural co-ops. He was a former member of Badgerland Farm Credit board of directors. Earl loved his family. His farm, and enjoyed playing cards, gambling, fishing, watching the birds and squirrels in his yard and caring for his rose garden. Survivors include his wife Arlene, his children Earl Jr. (Bonnie) of Port Washington, Joanne Schlenvogt of West Bend, Alan (Donna) Schlenvogt of Belgium, Gary (Doris) Schlenvogt of Port Washington, Linda (Dale) Rudd of Waubeka and Lee (Pam) Schlenvogt of Port Washington, twelve grandchildren Julie (Mike) Brey, Eric (Janice Stadler), Sara, Paul, Roberta, Chad (Jenny) and Carrie (Steve Schaefer), Melissa and Megan Schlenvogt, Jodi (Jody Schubert) and Billie Jo Rudd and Adam Fellenz, two great grandchildren Madaline and Natalie Brey, one brother Ervin Schlenvogt of Cedarburg, one sister Edith Biancalana of Chicago, his beloved dog Chloe, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 1 PM at Friedens Evangelical Church, 454 N. Milwaukee St., Port Washington. Interment Union cemetery, Port Washington. Visitation at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington Monday from 3-8 PM and at the Church Tuesday from 11 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials to Friedens Evangelical Church, Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation, Ozaukee Christian School or American Heart Association appreciated.
Delwin C. Brophy
Delwin C. “Del” Brophy age 77 of Fredonia, passed away Friday evening February 18, 2005 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee Campus in Mequon. He was born July 16, 1927 in the Town of Saukville, son of the late Frank and Lulu Bell Brophy. On June 25, 1949 he married
Colleen Mullen at Holy Angles Catholic Church in West Bend. After serving his country in the US Navy, Mr. Brophy started Brophy and Olsen Electric in Port Washington, and later Brophy and Miller Electric, and also served for a time as the Electrical Inspector for the City of Port Washington. He was a perfectionist in his trade, trying his best for his customers. Del was very dedicated to his family. Whether is was being a handyman for his kids and grandkids, telling his great stories, or trips to the Golden Gloves Boxing Championship, his family was very important to him. Del was a member of Holy Rosary Parish where he volunteered much of his time and talents, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Fredonia Lions Club, and the American Legion. He also enjoyed model trains and planes, camping and fishing. He is survived by his wife Colleen of Fredonia, 8 children; Nora (Ken) Matthews of Belgium, Jennifer (Glen) Moegenburg of Fredonia, Ann (Dan) Miller of Kenosha, Dan (Patti) Brophy of Grafton, Mary Lu (Dick) Sachs of Green Bay, Kim (Dawn) Brophy of McHenry, IL, Joel (fiancé Lori Miller) of St. Cloud, and Therese (Mike) Ziemer of West Bend. He is further survived by 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, 1 brother Pat (Joan) Brophy of Baraboo, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents 2 brothers Frank and Leroy, and 2 sisters Pearl Ziegler and Ethel Bauschelt. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 23 6:30 PM from the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Avenue, Port Washington to Holy Rosary Parish, St. Rose Chapel in Fredonia for Mass at 7 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery in Little Kohler. Visitation will be at the Eernisse Funeral Home Wednesday from 3-6:30 PM. Memorials suggested to St. Lawrence Seminary. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is assisting the family.
Geraldine A. Paape “Geri”
Geraldine “Geri” Paape, age 65 years of Adell, formerly of the Town of Saukville and the Town of Sherman, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2005 at Greendale Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sheboygan. She was born on March 13, 1939 in Grafton, daughter of the late Milton and Viola Purgundy Mertzig. On April 4, 1959 she married
Frederick “Fritz” Paape at St. Peter’s UCC Church in Saukville. Mrs. Paape worked at Allen Edmonds in Port Washington for 26 years. She also helped her husband on the couple’s farms in Saukville and Random Lake. Geri also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, country music, gardening, writing poetry, and crossword puzzles. She is survived by seven children; Michael of Adell, Nicholas (Lori) of Oostburg, Ralph (Donna) of Cascade, Susan (James) Schwai of Cascade, Curtiss of Random Lake, Dale of Oshkosh, and Dennis (Anne) of Sheboygan Falls, three step-children; Frederick Jr. “Poncho”, of Adell, Nancy Oman of Random Lake and Charles (Jeanne) of Plymouth. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers Milton Mertzig of Juneau and Daniel (Lynn) Mertzig of West Bend, 1 sister Kathleen Schroeder of West Bend, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and grandson Steven Paape. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 21, 2005 at 7 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Avenue, Port Washington with Rev.Robert P. Seater officiating. Burial will be in Union cemetery in Saukville. In state at the Funeral Home Monday from 4-7 PM. Memorials appreciated.
ALEX F. NOSTER
Alex Noster, age 84 years of 63 Stark Rd. Random Lake died Sunday, February 13, 2005 as a result of a drowning accident on Random Lake. He was born July 1, 1920 in Town of Farmington, Washington County, son of the late Hugo and Marcelle Chalet Noster. Alex served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. On June 5, 1948 he married
Opal Mann at St. Paul’s Community Church in Waubeka. She preceded him in death in 1983. On June 15, 1985 he married
Doris Mensing Ziehr at Friedens Evangelical Church in Port Washington. Alex owned and operated Noster’s Foods in Belgium for approximately forty years until selling the business. In retirement he continued to work as a butcher and sausage maker at Baumann’s Market, Kewaskum Foods and was currently working at Schwai’s in Waubeka. He was a member of Friedens Evangelical Church in Port Washington where he served as an Elder. He was also a member of Belgium American Legion Post 412 where he served as adjutant of the Post and editor of the Post newsletter. In addition he was active in many local organizations including VFW Post 5373, Belgium Fire Department, Belgium Lions, Random Lake Association, and was President of Waubeka Union cemetery Association. He had a life-long love of flying and was a member of the EAA, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol. Alex was accompanied in death by his faithful companion, his Golden Retriever, Aileron. He is survived by his wife Doris, five children Jeanne (the late Michael) Maciejewski of Cedar Grove, James (Ann) Noster of Belgium, Nancy (Carl) Crass of McDonough, GA, Clifford (Carolyn) Ziehr of Cresswell, OR and Jenifer (Gary) Paszkiewicz of Delafield, twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters Georgette Yokum of Bonham Texas and Janet Sommerfeldt of Sheboygan, one sister in law Bernice Noster of Grafton, two brothers in law Wallace Mann of Tucson, AZ and Ralph (Ann) Mann of Campbellsport, WI, nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear neighbor Jerry Harden, and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother Raymond Noster and one sister Hazel Odekirk. Graveside military rites Thursday, February 17, 10 AM at Union cemetery, Waubeka. AUDREY D. BOOGREN
Mrs. Audrey Boogren, of Western Ave. in Random Lake, passed away at her residence on Sunday, February 13, 2005. She was 82 years old. Audrey was born in Marquette, MI on December 17, 1922, daughter of Frank and Dorothy McCauley Stuer. On January 30, 1946 she was united in marriage with Hector Boogren at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Marquette, MI. The couple moved to the Random Lake area in1959. Her husband preceded her in death in 1991. Audrey worked at the Musebeck Shoe Comp. in Cedar Grove for 23 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Our Lady of The Lakes Parish, the Christian Women, the Random Lake Senior Center and the American Legion Post 145 Auxiliary. She enjoyed rides with her children, traveling while she was able and was an avid reader. She is survived by her four children: Mary Anne (Gary) Paul of Cudahy, Alan (Dianne) of Fond du Lac, John (Roxanne) of Shawano and Edward (Kristine) Boogren of Coral Springs, FL, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 brother Lee Stuer of Rumley, MI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, 1 brother Frank and 1 sister Jeanette Virta. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 7:30PM at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Dacada. Father Richard Cerpich will officiate. Audrey will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Nicholas cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH Thursday evening from 4-7:30 PM. MARY L. GARFIELD
Mary Garfield, of Schroeder Drive in Milwaukee, passed away at Marian Franciscan Center in Milwaukee late Saturday evening, February 12, 2005. She was 72 years old. Mary was born in Iron Mountain, MI on February 5, 1933, daughter of Garfield and Eleanore Sharpe Badini. On October 6, 1951 she was united in marriage with Harvey J. Bentrup Sr. He preceded her in death. Mary, as a homemaker, was an excellent cook who enjoyed Chinese cuisine, taking care of her family and grandchildren and going for rides in the country. She was also an avid reader. She is survived by 1 son Harvey “Butch” (Penny) Bentrup Jr. of Rubicon, 3 daughters: Cindy (Glen) James of Oconomowoc, Kathlene (Richard) Kastelic of Cedarburg and Julie (Monty) Roddy of Irvine, CA., 5 grandchildren: Amy (Christopher) Zirbes of Wauwatosa, Jimmy Bentrup of Milwaukee, Paige Bentrup of Rubicon, Ricky and Bobby Kastelic of Cedarburg. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister Geraldine. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 16th at 7PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington. Fr. James Ernster will officiate. A Gathering of Friendship will take place at the Funeral Home Wednesday from 5PM until the services at 7PM.
BERT R. LIEBENSTEIN
Bert R. Liebenstein, age 84 years of 288 Bley Parkway, Port Washington passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at East Pasco Medical Center in Zephryhills, FL. He was born February 10, 1920 in Cascade, WI, son of the late Edwin and Mabelle Lammers Liebenstein. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II and married
Audrey Erlwig on October 2nd, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. He worked as the controller at Fromm Laboratory in Grafton, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Mequon and Rose Harms American Legion in Grafton. He was an avid golfer, sports fan and loved riding his bike and traveling. He and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Zephyrhills, FL. He is survived by his wife Audrey, two daughters Nancy (Mark Smith) Liebenstein of Rochester, NY and Carol Liebenstein of Baltimore, MD, three grandchildren Evan, Chloe & Taylor, 1 brother Seth (Dorothy) Liebenstein of Grafton and one sister-in-law Donna Liebenstein of Lac du Flambeau, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by one son Robert and two brothers: Clair and J.O. Liebenstein. Funeral Saturday, Feb. 12, 3:30 PM at Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington with Rev. Jeff Lincione officiating. Burial will take place in Union cemetery, Port Washington.
June V. Diehl
Mrs. June Diehl, of Twin Valley Trail in the Town of Belgium, formerly of the Village of Belgium and Milwaukee, passed away at her residence on Thursday, February 3, 2005. She was 78 years old. June was born on October 27, 1926 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, daughter of Stanley and Anna Noon Wheiland. She worked as an inspector for General Electric in Milwaukee for 12 years, retiring in 1989. June enjoyed fishing, gambling junkets with friends to area casinos and enjoyed traveling until she no longer could. She is survived by 2 daughters: Frances (William) Tackes of the Town of Belgium and Anna (Anthony) Leahy, 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 brother John (Joan) Wheiland. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by a twin sister Jean and 1 brother Edmund. Private family services were held. Her remains have been inurned at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin. Memorials to the Ozaukee Humane Society are suggested. Eernisse Funeral Home assisted the family.
MARTHA C. HUIRAS
Mrs. Martha Huiras, of Sunny Ridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Sheboygan, formerly of Random Lake, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 1, 2005. She was 100 years old. Martha was born in Hilbert on November 23, 1904, daughter of John P. and Mary Klas Pirrung. On April 6, 1925 she was united in marriage with Alois Huiras at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Dacada. The couple farmed in Fredonia until 1954 and then moved to the Village of Random Lake. Mr. Huiras preceded Martha in death on May 25, 1983. Mrs. Huiras was a member of Our Lady of The Lakes Parish and a former member of the Christian Mother’s. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, crocheting, fishing, quilting and a good game of sheepshead. Martha is survived by 3 daughters: Meridith (Delbert) Meloy of Saukville, JoAnne (John) Heiting of Columbia, SC, and Marie (Anton) Staral of Port Washington, 3 sons: Harold (Arlene) Huiras, Alois (Agnes) Huiras, both of Fredonia, and James (Jean) Huiras of Random Lake, 16 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by 1 sister-in-law Loretta Reilley of West Bend, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, 3 grandchildren, and 2 brothers: Alfred and Joseph Pirrung. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 4th, 2005 at 7PM at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Mary’s Chapel, 300 Butler St., Random Lake. Father Richard Cerpich will officiate. Martha will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Mary’s cemetery, Port Washington. The family will receive visitors Friday evening at the church from 5-7PM.
