GERMIANE R. LEIDER
Mrs. Germaine Leider of Middle Road in the Village of Belgium, passed away at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital early Saturday morning, December 27, 2003. She was 75 years old. Germaine was born in Belgium on December 29, 1927, daughter of Bernard and Julia Klein Gall. On May 1, 1948 she was united in marriage with Henry “Harry” Leider at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lake Church. He preceded her in death on April20, 2002. Mrs. Leider worked as a shoe lacer at Lake Church Leather for almost 20 years. She was a member at St. Mary Lake Church, the Christian Women, was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting afghans for all of her grandchildren. She is survived by her 4 children: Janice (Peter) Birenbaum of Random Lake, Joanne (Dwight) Maciejewski of Port Washington, William (Ruth) Leider of Belgium and Marilyn (Alvin) Fromm of Grafton. She is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 1 sister-in-law, Helen (Robert) Arendt of Shawano, 4 brothers-in-law: Alois (the late Carol) Leider of Fredonia, Gregory (Lavern) Leider of Fredonia, Ray (the late Julia) Eischen of Random Lake and Raymond Gantner of Belgium, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, 1 sister, Beatrice Gantner, 1 brother, Harold Gall and 1 sister-in-law, Lucille (the late Wilfred) Vanderloop. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at 6:30 PM from the Funeral Home going to St. Mary Lake Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 7PM. Father James Vojtik will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 171 N. Royal Ave. (Hwy LL & Park St.) in Belgium on Tuesday from 4-6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.
LeRoy F. Bittner
Mr. LeRoy Bittner, of Sandy Beach Road, Belgium, passed away at Columbia-St. Mary’s Columbia Campus in Milwaukee on December 25, 2003. He was 72 years old. LeRoy was born in the Town of Belgium on April 20, 1931, son of Henry and Mary Welter Bittner. He entered the US Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War before receiving his discharge in 1960. Mr. Bittner most recently worked at Rostad Aluminum Company in Grafton as a caster. LeRoy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church, the Catholic Foresters and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening and hobby farming, selling his vegetables at a roadside stand during the summer. He also enjoyed watching sports and helping out his family and friends. He is survived by 4 sisters: Mildred (Killian) Bode of Port Washington, Helen (the late Martin ) Deppiesse of West Bend, Marie Weyker of Grafton and Theresa (Earl) Oelhafen of Cedar Grove and 1 brother, Wilbert (Ginny) Bittner of Belgium. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ervin and Donald Bittner and 1 sister, Estella Eischen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2003, leaving from the Funeral Home at 10AM going to St. Mary, Lake Church for Mass at 10:30 AM. Father James Vojtik and Father James Ernster will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 171 N. Royal Ave. (Hwy LL and Park St.) in Belgium Monday evening fro 4-7PM and again Tuesday morning from 9-10AM. A parish vigil will be held Monday evening at 7PM.
BERNICE SELLE
Mrs. Bernice Selle, age 95 years of Lasata Care Center, Cedarburg died Christmas Day, December 25, 2003 at Lasata. She was born January 4, 1908 in Oshkosh, daughter of Ernst and Helen Herman Wickmann. On October 25, 1931 she married
Edwin Selle in Oshkosh. The couple lived in Oshkosh where Edwin owned and operated the U-R Next
Barbershop until retiring. The couple moved to Port Washington in 1965. He preceded her in death in 1990. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Port Washington. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (Joe) Voeller of Port Washington, 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services Monday December 29, 2 PM at Lakeview Memorial Park cemetery Chapel in Oshkosh with Rev. John Klieve officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park. Visitation at the cemetery Chapel Monday from 1-2 PM.
JOHN R. SPEAKER
John Speaker, age 79 years of 400 Patrick Court, Port Washington died at his home on Thursday, December 25, 2003. He was born December 7, 1924 in DePere, son of Dr. George and Mary Bolton Speaker. John served in the United States Air Force during WW II as a nose gunner, flying in 50 missions and remaining a member of the 450th Bomb Squadron.. After returning from the war he attended Marquette University and graduated from St. Norbert College in DePere. On June 18, 1949 he married
Patricia Destach in Green Bay. She preceded him in death in 1987. On April 26, 1990 he married
Patricia Huntley in Florida. John worked as a sales rep for Vinyl Plastics Inc. in Sheboygan, retiring in 1992 after 18 years. He was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a die hard Packer fan and also worked as a timer for the Packer organization during the Lombardi era for Milwaukee games, remaining the Packers #1 fan until his death. He was a former Little League baseball coach, organized and sponsored annual croquette tournaments and enjoyed playing golf. He is survived by his wife Patricia, children Mary Pat (Bob) Hanneman of Chicago, John (Mary) Speaker of Chicago and Jeff (Colleen) Speaker of Brookfield, Pat’s children Dan (Kathy) Kradle of Chicago and Debbie (George) Guch of Tampa, FL, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 sisters Rose (Carl) Gerke of DePere, EllieMae (Dick) Moe of Phoeniz, AZ and Alice Noble of DePere, 1 brother George (Mary Lou) Speaker of Green Bay, sister in law Betty (the late James) Speaker, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 3 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington with Father Joe Haas and Father James Vojtik officiating. BILLIE MARIE MUELLER
Mrs. Billie Mueller, age 71 years of Goldsboro, NC, formerly of Sheboygan and Port Washington died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at the home of her daughter in Cedar Grove where she was convalescing. She was born December 18, 1932 in Illinois, daughter of the late Lester and Madeline Owens Hammonds. On April 29, 1950 she married
John (Noel) Mueller in Saukville. He preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Mueller was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Goldsboro, NC. She was a great mom to her nine children She enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren and loved watching and feeding the birds at her North Carolina home. She will be missed and loved by her family and friends. She is survived by her children Ann (Jeffrey) Steffen of Cedar Grove, Charles (Judy) Mueller of Bradford, RI, Phillip (Teresa) Mueller of Lewisburg, NC, Daniel (Dinah) Mueller of League City, TX, David Mueller of Forest Park, IL, Thomas Mueller of Goldsboro, NC and Timothy (Stefanie) Mueller of Fuquay Varina, NC, 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her mother in law Ruth Mueller of Saukville. She was preceded in death by her husband, and 2 children Michelle and Noel Jr. Funeral services will be held on Sunday evening, December 28, 7 PM at Open Door Bible Church, 3420 Hwy. RUTH MAGYAR
Mrs. Ruth Magyar, age 86 years of West Bend died early Saturday morning, January 3, 2004 at Cedar Lake Campus in West Bend where she had been a resident. She was born February 4, 1917 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late William and Mary Christiansen Fritz. On November 6, 1937 she married
John Magyar in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in 1988. Ruth was a homemaker until moving to the Cedar Lake complex. She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. Survivors include her two daughters Judith Magyar of Lake In The Hills, IL and Kathleen (Neal) Jochims of Fredonia, WI, 4 grandchildren Gail Williams, Vicki (Dan) Hartwig, Lori (Gary) Gramoll and Derek (Holly) Jochims, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 1 sister Viola Scherbert of Milwaukee, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 1 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington with Rev. Kenton Wendorf officiating. Entombment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield. Visitation at the Eernisse Funeral Home Monday from 11:30 until time of services. Kurtis Liebherr
Mr. Kurtis E. Liebherr, age 62 of Dacada, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday July 27, 2004 at Valley View Medical Center in Plymouth. He was born September 29, 1941 in Milwaukee, son of the late Alfred and Adele Pluckhahm Liebherr. Kurt worked as a maintenance supervisor at Concordia University in Mequon, retiring in a few years ago. In April of 1990, he married
Kathleen “Kay” Willing at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. He enjoyed collecting various items, including Elvis memorabilia, interesting books, and biblical artifacts. Kurt also enjoyed making miniature dollhouses and playing Nintendo. He is a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton where he taught Sunday school and a current member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fredonia. He is survived by his wife Kay of Dacada, 1 son Keith (Tracy) Liebherr of Cedarburg, 5 daughters Denise (Raymond) Pausback of North Carolina, Deanne (Gearge) Menke of West Bend, Lori Wick of Grafton, Shelley (Robert) Lutz of Hartford, and Julie (Dimitri) Stamatiou Elgin, IL. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 1 sister, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday July 30, 7 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 824 Fredonia Ave. in Fredonia, will Rev. Robert Zick officiating. Visitation will take place at the church Friday evening from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of choice suggested. Eernisse Funeral Home, Belgium is assisting the family.
Ella Opitz
Mrs. Ella “Pat” Opitz, age 87 years of Saukville, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2004 at her residence. She was born on November 24, 1916 in Warner, Alberta, Canada, daughter of the late John and Beneth Oliver Lonsdale. Ella attended Olds College in Alberta, graduating in 1937. In 1938 she married
Wilmer Opitz in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The couple made their home on the family farm in Saukville. The couple dairy farmed until retiring in 1969. Wilmer preceded her in death in 1983. Ella was very active in the community and local politics. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, the Ozaukee County Republican Party and a volunteer worker for local elections. In 1972 she was elected to the Ozaukee County Board serving as a member or Chairperson on numerous board committees, retiring in 1989. She was a stanch supporter of 4-H, Scouting, the Historical Society, the Royal Neighbors and Farm Bureau. In 1989 she married
Harold Orcutt and moved back to her hometown of Warner, Alberta. After Harold’s death in 2000, Ella returned to Saukville to live with family. She is survived by two sons, Charles (Dorothy) of Mineral Point and David of Port Washington, seven grandchildren Jeff (Jean), Scott (Diane), Mark, Jennifer, Bill and Molly Opitz and Janis (Jim) Stemper, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by four sisters, nieces, nephews in Canada, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her two husbands Wilmer Opitz and Harold Orcutt, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 1 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington with Pastor Marilyn Borchardt of Living Hope Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Union cemetery in Waubeka. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Memorials suggested to Ozaukee County 4-H.
LUCY A. DUTTER
Mrs. Lucy Dutter, age 83 years of 815 North Street, Belgium died Saturday evening, July 24, 2004 at the home of her daughter. She was born January 22, 1921 in Ogdensburg, NY, daughter of Joseph and Agnes Fitzsimmons Needle. On October 2, 1947 she married
Bruce Dutter in New York. He preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Dutter enjoyed her family, bowling, dancing and baking. She is survived by her seven children B. Stephen (Dixie) Dutter of Neshkoro, WI, Peter (Jane) Dutter of Random Lake, Jeffrey (Lori) Duter and William (Sherri) Dutter of Cedar Grove, Suzanne (Tim) Lunn of Mission Viejo, CA, Tammy (Rick) Harrison of Cedar Grove and Mandy (Jerome) Bares of Belgium, 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Veronica G. Meyer
Mrs. Veronica Meyer, age 94 years, residing at Heritage Nursing home in Port Washington, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 18, 2004. Veronica was born January 18, 1910 on the family farm in the Random Lake area, daughter of John L. and Jennie Meyer Deppiesse. On June 27, 1936 she was united in marriage to Arnold A. Meyer at St. Peter-Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1995. Veronica worked in Port Washington at Smith Brother’s Restaurant in the 1950’s, keeping the buffet line well stocked. After that, she worked at Port Food’s (now Port Apothecary) in the meat department as a meat wrapper. Mrs. Meyer was a member of St. Peter of Alcantera Catholic Church in Port Washington, had belonged to the Christian Women and worked with the Food Pantry. She enjoyed gardening, canning and working in her kitchen. Any time you went to her house there would be something simmering on the stove or baking in the oven. She is survived by her son, Leon (Lucie) Meyer of Lakeland, FL, 2 grandchildren: Garrett (Lisa) Meyer of Lakeland, FL and Dayna (Harold) Webre of Naples, FL, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Julia Mueller of Port Washington, Jean (Milton) Karrels of Leesburg, FL, 1 brother, Leon (Vinette) Deppiesse of Random Lake, 1 sister-in-law Doris Lorge of Belgium, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, and 3 brothers: Vincent, Martin and Everett Deppiesse. Harriet A. Hubing
Mrs. Harriet Hubing age 75 years of Random Lake passed away on Friday July 16, 2004 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. She was born in the Town of Sherman on April 3, 1927, daughter of the late John and Frieda Giese Feiten. On April 30, 1949 she married
Donald Hubing at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Random Lake. The couple farmed in the Random Lake area until 1976. Harriet also worked in area restaurants. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish St. Mary’s Chapel, the Christian Women and former choir member. Mrs. Hubing was also a former member of the Random Lake Garden Club and a volunteer at the Random Lake Blood Drive. She also enjoyed playing sheepshead with family and friends, cooking and baking. She is survived by her husband Donald of Random Lake, son Jeffrey (Lori) Hubing of Random Lake, daughter Heidi Hubing of Sun Valley, Ca, 4 grandchildren Benjamin, Greg, Danielle and Mandy, and 1 sister Dolores (Roy) Stemper of Little Kohler. She is further survived by 15 brothers and sisters in law; Gertrude (the late Edward) Fieber of Port Washington, Norbert (Esther) Hubing of Tuscon, AZ, Genrose (Alex) Brabender of Tuscon, AZ, Robert (Lucille) Hubing of Random Lake, Melvin (Sandra) of Belgium, Gerald (Arlene) Hubing of Belgium, Kathleen (the late Kenneth) Bares of Belgium, Eleanor (the late Joseph) Hubing of Fredonia and Mary (Eugene) Bares of Belgium, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Donald J. Stephan III "Donnie"
Mr. Donald J. Stephan III age 34 years of Saukville passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 7, 2004 at his residence. Donnie was born in Port Washington of February 17, 1970 son of Donald “Jim” Stephan Jr. and Barbara Schuchard Stephan. He attended Port Washington High School, graduating in 1988. Later, he attended ITT Technical College, graduating in the early 1990’s. Mr. Stephan worked as a machinist with Star Automation in Menomonee Falls for over 12 years. Donnie enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing bingo. He is survived by his parents Donald “Jim” Jr. and Barbara Stephan of Saukville and his sister Christine (Cory) McCormick of Grafton. He is further survived by one niece Megan McCormick, one nephew Andrew McCormick both of Grafton, his grandparents Donald and Connie Stephan Sr. of Saukville, 2 aunts Donna (Bill) Ubbink and Diane (Larry) Block both of Random Lake, one uncle Darryl Stephan of Port Washington, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents William and Jenny Schuchard. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 10, 2004 at 2 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington with Father Karl Acker officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from 11AM until the time of the service. OSCAR H. HOCHSTEIN
Mr. Oscar Hochstein, of South Milwaukee St. Fredonia, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Columbia-St. Mary’s Campus in Mequon. He was 85 years old. Oscar was born on July 8, 1918 in Milwaukee, son of Oscar J. and Amalia Wittlieb Hochstein. After high school, he joined the US Army and served as a Mess Sergeant from 1941 until 1945. On September 23, 1950 he was united in Marriage with Eileen Boland at St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church in Milwaukee. In 1964 the couple moved to the Fredonia area were they opened a tavern and dancehall. They sold in 1974 and Oscar went to work at Doerr Electric until he retired in 1983. Mr. Hochstein was the “Lunchroom Bouncer” at Ozaukee High School following his retirement, and also worked on the “Chain Gang” during the football games. He was a member of American Legion Post 410, the James M. Hayes Masonic Lodge in Milwaukee, a 25 year member and former president of the Ozaukee Barbershoppers, as well as having belonged to Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, Fredonia Little League, Fredonia Advancement, the DeMolay Logion of Honor and serving on the Fredonia Village Board. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Fredonia, their two children: Kathy (Ray “Buba”) Brandt of Cedarburg, and Jeff (Carol) Hochstein of Milwaukee and three granddaughters: Megan Brandt, Libby and Sarah Hochstein. He is further survived by a nephew, Dale (Janet) Hochstein of Fond u Lac, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded by his brother, Matt (the late Janet) Hochstein. Funeral Services will be held for Oscar on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Eernisse Funeral Home at 7PM. Rev. Donald Zahurance will officiate. John Kist
John Kist, 51 years of Port Washington, passed away Thursday July 1, 2004 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon. He was born January 6, 1953 in Youngstown, OH, son of the late Edmond and Helen Adamczjk Kist. On June 3, `978 he married
Sandra Blanchard in Port Washington. John worked at Jadair in Port Washington, where he was a welder, fabricator, saw operator and also did a little painting, too. John had a very good sense of humor. He enjoyed tinkering with cars, boating, auto restoration and antiquing. He is survived by his daughter Jenny of Pocatello, ID, 2 brothers Edmond and Erich (Diane) Kist of Youngstown, OH, his former wife Sandy Kist of Random Lake, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, son John and his brother Robert. A memorial service will be held on Thursday July 15 at 7:30 PM at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Avenue Port Washington. A gathering of friends will take place at the funeral home from 6:30-7:30 PM.
THOMAS LEE GAVIN
Mr. Tom Gavin, age 46 years, of Fredonia Avenue in Fredonia, passed away suddenly Sunday, June 20, 2004 in a single car accident in the Town of Trenton. Tom was born April 1, 1958 in Port Washington, son of Delbert J. and Gloria Weaver Gavin. He recently worked as a laborer for Trionics. Tom enjoyed fishing, camping, music and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was well loved by his family. He is survived by himother, Gloria Gavin of Saukville, 5 sisters: Cathy (John) Hirschmann of West bend, Laurie (Ron) Kuklinski of Belgium, Mary (Mark) Trice of Port Washington, Patty (Dale) Bossler of Oostburg, Shirley (Chuck) Schneider of Milwaukee, 3 brothers: Ray (Sus) Gavin of Townsend, Patrick (Rosemary) Gavin of Belgium and Ken (Sarah) Gavin, currently stationed overseas with the US Air Force. He is further survived by his step-mother Connie Gavin of Tomahawk and her extended family, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Myrtle Kleckner, age 74 years of 489 S. Milwaukee St., Fredonia died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Cedar Springs Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg where she had been a resident since January. She was born November 23, 1929 in the Town of Fredonia, daughter of the late Nic and Adelia Wetor Gonwa. On June 5, 1951 she married
Robert Kleckner at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada. The couple farmed in the Town of Fredonia until retiring. Robert preceded her in death December 27, 2000. Mrs. Kleckner was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, the Christian Women and the Apostolate of Suffering. She is survived by four children Alan (Darline) Kleckner of Belgium, Kristine (Pat) Maynard of Almond, WI, Randy (Missy) Kleckner of Freistadt and Wayne (Cindy) Kleckner of Beaver Dam, one daughter in law Cindy Kleckner of Cedar Grove, 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three brothers Sylvan Gonwa of Tempe, AZ, Roman (Virgie) Gonwa of Belgium and Norbert (Lorraine) Gonwa of West Bend, two sisters Harriet Prom of Saukville and Dolores (Joseph) Kultgen of Belgium. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Michael, her parents, one sister Audrey and one brother Melvin. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday evening, June 18, 7:30 PM at Holy Rosary Parish, St. Rose Chapel in Fredonia with Father Richard Fleischmann and Father Neil Zinthefer officiating. Burial will be on Saturday, 10:30 AM at St. Nicholas cemetery, Dacada. Visitation will be at Eernisse Funeral Home, 171 N. Royal Ave., Belgium Friday from 4-7 PM.
