Shirley Aloma Hunter
Hunter, Shirley, age 78, of Rhinelander, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Langlade Memorial Hospital in Antigo. She was born March 18, 1927 in Sugar Camp, the daughter of Frederick and Faye (Hibbard) Hunter. She was a 1945 graduate of Rhinelander High School and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Goossen and later as a day care provider at Carousel Day Care Center. Shirley is survived by four sisters; Winifred King, Rhinelander, June (Wayne) Carus, Rockford, IL., Lois Petta, and Doris Larson, both of Rhinelander, as well as 23 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers; Roy and Fred, Jr. "Bud" and two sisters; Mary Wise and Barbara Hageny. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Doris Hanson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Home cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church on Saturday morning. Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, 365-4343, has been entrusted with arrangements.
Gregory Charles Broukal
Gregory C. Broukal, 4089 Dollar Lake Road, Eagle River, died Friday, January 7, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. Mr. Broukal, who was 53 years old, was battling cancer. Born April 30, 1951 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, he was a son of Charles Broukal of Haines City, Florida and Ruth Broukal, who preceded him in death. He married
Patricia R. Erickson on May 13, 1972 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Elcho. She survives. As a child, Mr. Broukall moved to Summit Lake where his family operated North Trail Store. The family later moved to Elcho operating North Trail Store there. He graduated from Elcho High School in 1969 and studied marketing at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau. Following graduation, Mr. Broukal joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard, enlisting on June 30, 1970 and serving as a second lieutenant in the 32nd Armor Battalion. He was a platoon leader for Company C, 1-632nd Armor based in Mosinee. Mr. Broukal received his honorable discharge in 1979. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 10 in Wausau. Mr. Broukal spent his adult career in the furniture industry, working in retail sales for Wausau Furniture Company and Mirman`s Future Store in Wausau. He later moved into the wholesale market traveling across Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula as a manufacturer`s representative for a variety of furniture lines. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Broukal was a member of Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club of Eagle River. He volunteered for many years at the World Championship Snowmobile Derby. In addition to snowmobiling, he enjoyed boating, hunting, a variety of other outdoor activities, and caring for his property. Survivors in addition to his wife, Patricia and his father, Charles include a sister, Ginger (Paul) Ernst of Caledonia; three sisters-in-law, Linda Erickson of Elcho, Mary (Tim) Rusch of Summit Lake, and Lisa (Michael) Haefs of Pelican Lake; two nieces, Amanda Rusch of Mankato, Minnesota and Tina (Doran) Powell of Pearson; two nephews, Daniel Rusch of Summit Lake and Michael (Vicky) Mischler, Jr. of Pickerel; his mother-in-law, Joyce Erickson of Elcho; two great-nieces, and one great-nephew. In addition to his mother, Ruth, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Howard Erickson. At. Mr. Broukal`s request, no funeral services have been scheduled. Wallberg Linnea Wadak
Wadak, Wallberg "Billie" age 90, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Taylor Park Nursing Home. She was born in Bundy on December 12, 1914, the daughter of John and Jenny (Hanson) Edwardson. Billie was a charter member of Our Savior`s Lutheran Church in Bundy and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rhinelander for over 60 years. She is survived by her children; Jeanne Smith, Wetmore, MI. and San Benito, TX., Maxine Starcznski, Mound, MN., and Jan (Bob) Johnson, Rhinelander, grandchildren; Kenneth (Theresa) Starcznski, Plymouth, MN., Bruce Starcznski, Mound, MN., Troy (April) Starcznski, Mound, MN., Todd (Dawn Droes) Johnson, Rhinelander, Michelle (Kevin) Kurilla, Oregon, WI., Melissa (Jason) Polzin, Lake Mills, WI., Connie (Michael) Moy, Fairfax, VA., Sue (George) Sherlock, Rockford, IL., and Bob (Jane) Smith, Alpena, MI., great-grandchildren; Matt and Mikayla Kurilla, Bennett and Magen Polzin, Kaden Starcznski, Erin and Sam Starcznski, Tina Horn, Elaina Jacobs, Pat Sheets, Jordan, Megan, and Matt Smith, great-great-grandchildren; Decker, Alex, Luke, and Grace, a sister, Beatrice Lundberg, Tomahawk, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Connie, on January 8, 1969, a brother, Harry Edwardson, sisters; Hedwig Dietz, Agnes Craig, Sarah Stefonez, Esther Houg, Hilda Malmstrom, Gundberg Edwardson, and Lillian Desellier, and a son-in-law, Bill Smith. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Norman Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in Northland Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation for Billie will be from 4 until 6 P.M. on Friday, October 14, 2005 at the Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home as well as one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday morning.
Victor Raymond Kuschel
Kuschel, Victor R., 86, of Rhinelander, died January 1, 2006 at Friendly Village Nursing Home.
He was born July 24, 1919 in Rhinelander the son of Albert J. and Margaret V. (Bowles) Kuschel.
He was raised in Clintonville he attended school in Clintonville and Marion, Wisconsin.
He worked as a farm laborer there and later as an inspector at FWD Corporation.
He married
the former Bernice Coleman on July 10, 1955, and they moved to Lake Tomahawk in 1957, she preceded him in death on April 1, 2000.
He was employed for over 20 years at Niemi`s Minocqua Auto as a mechanic.
He retired from Trapp brothers in 1981.
He also did mechanical repairs at home. Victor enjoyed gardening, was an avid bowler, and belonged to the leagues in Clintonville, Woodruff and Rhinelander.
His dedication and skill was rewarded by numerous awards and trophies. Victor had lived the past nine years as a resident of Friendly Village Homage Hall.
He is survived by two daughters, Lori ( Leroy) Marsh, Lake Tomahawk, and Sherri Kuschel, Sanford, FL.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Albert, and two sisters, Lucille Kuschel and Helen (Ed) Fietzer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home with Chaplain John Uhlarik officiating.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday morning.
Inurnment will be in Forest Home cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established in his name.
James Patrick McElligott
James P. McElligott, 83, passed away surrounded by family at his home in Rhinelander on January 6th.
Jim was born November 5th 1922 in Chicago, IL to Jennie (Murphy) and Michael.
He grew up in the Roseland community of Chicago and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1939.
He attended the Illinois Institute of Technology prior to enlisting in the Navy during WWII where he saw active duty in the Pacific theatre.
Upon discharge from the Navy at the close of WWII, Jim pursued a career in various sales & marketing capacities for several companies including Anheuser-Busch, Liquid Carbonic and finally Bimba Mfg. Co. of Monee, IL.
Recruited as Bimba`s first regional manager in 1965, he was instrumental in contributing to the growth of the company rising to VP of Sales.
Returning from his final assignment in 1986 in Europe he retired with Helen the following year to Rhinelander.
Retirement was spent actively enjoying friends and extended visits by children and grandchildren at his lakeside home.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen M. and four children; James J. (Nancy) of Alpharetta, Ga., Joan (Robb) Jensen of Rhinelander, WI., Michael P. (Victoria) of Naperville, IL., Mary P. McElligott of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren including; Chelsea Jordan, Andrea Jensen, Chelsea Jensen, Erik Jensen, and Jeanine McElligott; a brother, Thomas; and a sister, Pat Breakey, both of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill and sisters, Mary Jane and Molly.
A visitation is planned at Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home between 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12th with a Memorial Mass at Nativity of our Lord Parish at St. Mary`s Catholic Church on Friday at 11:00 A.M.
Memorials may be made in Jim`s name to the Nativity of Our Lord Parish in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 297, Rhinelander, WI 54501.
Violet Eleanore Bohne
We experienced a great loss yesterday of our wonderful mother and grandmother, Violet E. Bohne (nee Pecore).
Violet went home to her loving God on January 9, 2006 at the age of 85.
She was the beloved wife of the late Edward W. Bohne; loving mother of the late Harlen F. Bohne; dear mother of Edward M. (Carol) Bohne of Milwaukee, Joy Ann (Allan) Partington of Rhinelander, Jerry A. (Barbara) Bohne of Janesville, and Cynthia M. (John) Tandy of Jefferson City, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Sorenson and brother, James E. Pecore.
She is further survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Violet was active in the community through her volunteer work with the Belles of St. Mary`s, St. Mary`s Hospital, and the Ladies Auxiliary.
She was a member of St. Joseph`s Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services.
Inurnment will follow at St. Mary`s Catholic cemetery.

Bernice Odeal Bennett
"Bernice O. Bennett, age 92, of Rhinelander, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Friendly Village Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
Bernice was born November 22, 1913 in Tomahawk to Bernie and Edith (Gould) Winchell.
She moved to Rhinelander in 1928 and married
George Bennett on December 15, 1929 in Rhinelander at St. Mary`s Catholic Church.
The couple celebrated 63 years of marriage. George preceded her in death in 1992.
She had worked for Spafford Farms for 31 years, and then for St. Mary`s Hospital for 4 years.
In her spare time, Bernice enjoyed dancing, sewing, cooking, berry picking, gardening, and above all spending time with her family.
She and George were faithful parishioners of St. Mary`s Catholic Church, and they made sure their home was always open to family and friends.
Bernice is survived by her children; Bernard (Janet) Bennett of Rhinelander, Janet (Eugene) Osterberg of Clintonville, Wisconsin and Dean (Karen) Bennett of New London, Wisconsin eight grandchildren; Mark (Michelle) Bennett, Scott Bennett, Eric (Sherri) Bennett, Carrie (Bradley) Ort, Peggy (John ) Artz, David (Kay) Osterberg, Matthew Bennett, and Kylie Bennett, step-grandchildren; Ginger (Don) Van Ells, Freeman (Mary) Bennett, and Keith (Theresa) Bennett; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Winchell, and Alice Winchell, and a good friend, Sandy Cudahy. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three infant children, three brothers, and six sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 20, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Nativity of Our Lord Parish at St. Mary`s Catholic Church with Father John Gerritts officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Mary`s Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 P.M. on Thursday, January 19 at the Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home where a prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 P.M.
Visitation continues on Friday morning at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass at the church.
Phyllis Ann Hodkiewicz
Hodkiewicz, Phyllis A. age 74, of Rhinelander, died Friday, January 20, 2006 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Phyllis was born in Pulaski, WI. on May 9, 1931.
She attended schools there, graduating from Pulaski High School in 1949.
She married
Ludwig "Ben" Hodkiewicz in Pulaski at St. Mary`s Catholic Church on June 24, 1950.
The couple moved to Rhinelander in 1964, where Phyllis earned her Liberal Arts degree from Nicolet Technical College.
She went on to serve as a Commissioner of the Federal Housing Authority.
Phyllis devotion to her church was very noteworthy.
She was a very active parishioner at St. Mary`s Catholic Church in Rhinelander, where she was a charter member of the Voices of Praise, served on the Women`s Club, and was active in the Belles of St. Mary`s.
In the Superior Diocese, she was a member of numerous advisory boards, and she was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies` Auxiliary.
In addition, she assisted in Scouting, volunteered at the hospital, worked for Dr. Frances Cline, and still found time to participate in the Red Hat Ladies, M.A.D.D., and the Nicolet Choraliers.
Phyllis said, "You have to make your own fun, if you wait for someone to make it for you, you will wait a lifetime." She loved to travel, and she lived a full life and always made the best of every day.
She is survived by her loving family; husband, Ben, Rhinelander, sons; Kenneth (Janet), Lexington Park, MD., Roy, Rhinelander, Paul, Appleton, and Peter, Rhinelander, daughters; Benita Brezinski, Crystal, MN., Jean (William Yonker) Hodkiewicz, Rhinelander, Faith (Steven Albertson) Hodkiewicz, Minneapolis, MN., Ann (Mark) Parmentier, Akron, OH., and Jan (Richard) French, Rhinelander, a sister, Gail Goerl, Shawano, WI., as well as nine grandchildren, and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Olsziewski.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 P.M. on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M.
Visitation continues on Wednesday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of a Funeral Mass celebrated at Nativity of Our Lord Parish at St. Mary`s Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. Father John Gerritts will officiate.
Interment will follow at St. Mary`s Catholic cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Nativity of Our Lord Schools in Phyllis` name.
Ella Joan Quandt
March 10, 1936 - April 24, 2009
Quandt, Ella J., age 73, of Rhinelander, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
She was born March 10, 1936 in Crandon, the daughter of Leslie and Lillian (Steele) Andrews.
Ella worked as a CNA in the pediatrics ward at the hospital, and she was a devoted nanny.
Ella was a passionate cook and a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by her five children; Cheryl (Jim) Holquist, Rhinelander, Steve (Mimi) Rine, Napa, ID, Jim (Judy) Rine, California, Lori Densow, Rhinelander, and Dan Chagnon, Portage, three sisters; Val, Marge, and Mae, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and much extended family.
In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, her husband, Jack Quandt, and a grandchild, Shannon Lee Belongia.
Memorial funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Chuck Kohley officiating.
Family will greet friends at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Thursday morning.
Inurnment will be in the Crandon cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established in her name.
