George Francis Hurley

George Hurley of Rhinelander, age 85, died Sunday August 14th, in the company of his family.

George was born on All Saints day, November 1, 1919, in St. Paul, Minnesota.

During his lifetime, he worked as a railroad engineer.

After moving to Rhinelander, George served as a member of the Soo Line Railroad Company for 30 years.

He married the love of his life, Wilna Stough, also a native of St. Paul, in 1939.

Wilna preceded him in death on June 8, 1978.

George was always dedicated to his family, and spent a great deal of time fishing, hunting and enjoying the outdoors with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

An avid golfer, George also spent much of his free time on the links with his closest friends.

He will be remembered by his many friends for his generous nature and his vibrant sense of humor.

George was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church in Rhinelander, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus.

He is also preceded in death by his mother and father, George and Margaret (Fay) Hurley, and three siblings; Betty, Delores, and Harold.

He is survived by his daughter Georgette Huebner, his son James Hurley, his son-in-law, Dennis Huebner and Bernice Bump Hurley.

He is also survived by six grandchildren; Kim, Richard, John, Denise, Chad, and Mikie and eight great-grandchildren; Whitney, Hilary, Sam, Alex, MyKenzie, Hannah, McArther, and Lane.

Visitation will be held for George at Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday with Deacon Ron Bosi officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Autism Society of Wisconsin.

Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343, is handling arrangements for the family.

Merlin Kenneth Hansen

Merlin (M.K. "Lindy") Hansen, age 79, of Rhinelander, died September 5, 2005 at St. Mary`s Hospital. He was born March 5, 1926 in Wausau to Elmer and Irma (Brandenburg) Seymour and adopted by Hans L. Hansen. Lindy served with the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the American Legion for 61 years. He married the former Jacqueline Chappa in 1948. Lindy was an accountant for the Rhinelander division of Wisconsin Public Service for 41 years. He first joined WPS in 1947 as a clerk in Minocqua. He was promoted in 1964 to district office supervisor in Rhinelander and, in 1966, was named division accountant. While in Minocqua, Lindy was a charter member and past president of the Minocqua Jaycees, member and treasurer of the Minocqua Fire Department and head of the Minocqua chapter of the American Red Cross. In Rhinelander, Lindy was past president of the Rhinelander Lions Club and past board member of the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church where he served on the finance committee and as an usher for many years. Lindy is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his son, Jeffrey (Deborah) of Eau Claire; his daughter, Patricia (Harvey) Jones of Paris, Mississippi; his grandson, Kenneth Lane Jones; his sisters; Patricia (Harold) Lambrecht of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Judith (Phillip) Simonis of Cape Coral, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons, Craig and Scott. Private family services will be held. Interment will be in St. Mary`s Catholic cemetery. Memorials in Lindy`s name may be directed to the Rhinelander District Library and Ministry Home Health and Hospice Services. Thomas Hansen

Thomas Hansen, age 82, of Rhinelander, died Wednesday, September 07, 2005 at St. Mary`s Hospital. He was born in Shawano on April 6, 1923 to Godfrey and Alabama (Fawley) Harding. He graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1942 and served with the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific from 1942-1945. He married the former Dorothy J. Karenke, his life-long companion of 59 years on August 10, 1946. He was employed by the Rhinelander Telephone Company for 42 years retiring in 1988. Thomas was an avid reader who enjoyed life to the fullest especially gardening, golf, trains, fishing and hunting with his cousins, Sonny and Al, sports, and his morning coffee with his buddies at the Sportsmen Café. He enjoyed his daily morning walks throughout the City of Rhinelander. He was very active in scouting and was the Pack, Troop and Post leader of 561 for many years and received the Silver Beaver award, the highest award in scouting. He helped guide many young boys in becoming young men. He served on the city council for several years. Thomas volunteered his time driving the van for the disabled veterans and ringing the bells at Christmas time. Thomas is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Tommy (Patty) of New Franken, Wisconsin, Tony (Eileen) of Delafield, Wisconsin, Tim (fiancé, Sue) of Lake Nabagamon, Wisconsin, and his daughter, Terri of Rhinelander; his brother, James (Norma) Harding of Rhinelander; his grandchildren, Amy, Parker, Tyler, Brett, Dustin, Jessica, and David and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, 2005 from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jim Mickelson officiating. Interment will follow in Northland Memorial Park cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Thomas. The family further wishes to express their appreciation of all their support to Dr. Patel, Dr. Lundberg, and all those at St. Mary`s Hospital oncology department. David Lawrence Miller

David L. Miller, age 65, of Rhinelander, died Saturday, September 10, 2005 at St. Mary`s Hospital.

David was born in Rhinelander on January 26, 1940 to Lawrence and Genevieve (Bliss) Miller. He graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1958 and served with the United States Army from 1958 until 1963 when he was honorably discharged. He was employed for 37 years at the Rhinelander Paper Company retiring in 1999. He married the former Katherine Wilber on June 29, 1963 in the first wedding in the present St. Mary`s Catholic Church. David enjoyed having breakfast with his friends at Deakin Shores and anything having to do with the television show, M*A*S*H. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. He saw it as his life`s work to make people laugh. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and his dogs.

David is survived by his wife, Katherine "Katy"; his daughter, Tina Marie (Mark) Hahner; his son, Timothy (Jayme) Miller, both of Rhinelander; his sisters, Bliss (Richard) Jennejohn and Patricia (Leonard) Bruyette both of Rhinelander; his brother-in-law William "Bill" (Lillian) Wilber of Tomahawk; and his grandchildren, Colton Miller and Wade and Tori Hahner; and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Nativity of Our Lord - St. Mary`s Parish with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service with Deacon Ron Bosi at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will also be held one hour before services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343, has been entrusted with arrangements by the family.

Judith Mary Reissmann

Reissmann, Judith M., age 60, of Rhinelander, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at St. Mary`s Hospital. Judith was born August 16, 1945 in Rhinelander, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Schimek) Plyer. She attended Rhinelander schools and graduated from R.H.S. in 1963. She went on to continue her education in fashion design. On August 13, 1970, she married Dennis Reissmann, and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage. She was employed by St. Mary`s Pathology Department and later worked for 28 years for Petersen Health Care as a billing clerk in their pharmacy department. In her leisure, she enjoyed quilting, traveling and the outdoors and animals. Mostly she was happiest spending time with family and friends. Judith is survived by her husband, Dennis, a son, Stephen (Art), Reissman, Minneapolis, MN., a daughter, Ann (Michael) Haas, Rhinelander, a sister, Marilyn Plyer, Rhinelander, as well as many friends and co-workers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Raith, and a niece, Lynn Burnette. Visitation will be held at the Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, 365-4343, on Friday, September 16, 2005 from 4 until 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Augustine of Hippo Episcopal Church with Father Dean Einerson officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside cemetery following services.

Ione Marie Thon

Ione M. Thon, age 89, of Rhinelander, died Thursday, September 15, 2005 at St. Mary`s Hospital. She was born on December 13, 1915 in Tripoli to Earl and Rose (Nutt) Bettinger. She married Andrew Thon on November 18, 1961. He preceded her in death. In her younger years, Ione enjoyed embroidery and dancing, especially polka. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her son; Antone (Loretta) Recha of Rhinelander; her daughter, Marie (Rodney) Knipfer of Tomahawk and her brother; LeRoy (Kyoka) Bettinger of Lakewood, Washington, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers; Francis, Maurice, Leslie, Woodrow, John, and Earl and her sisters; Rosemary and Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held at Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home on Monday, September 19, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Deacon Ron Bosi presiding.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph`s Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will also be on Monday at the funeral home from Noon until time of services.

Ruth Virginia Dickison

Ruth V. "Nana" Dickison, age 87, of Rhinelander, died on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at her home.

Ruth was born on July 9, 1918 in Rhinelander to Martin and Anna (Hess) Oches. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1935 and married Carl in Marquette, Michigan.

She was a member of the Ruth Circle at First United Methodist Church where she helped with all meals, bake sales, and funeral lunches until very recently.

Ruth enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, crocheting, and going to the cottage of the Moen`s Lake Chain and watching the birds and chippies.

She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud of her entire family.

Ruth is survived by her son, Martin "Punk" Dickison, her daughter, Carol (Jerry) Price, both of Rhinelander; a special nephew, Robert Roscher from Rancho Mirage, California who visited each summer, took her out to eat, and talked for many hours; her eleven grandchildren; Jeff, Jody, Julie, Melly, and Jessie, Val, Vickie, Viv, and Ronnie, Todd and Tracey; many great-grandchildren and extended family; and the ladies in the phone circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1992; her parents; a daughter, Jean Otto; and a sister, Alma Roscher.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Doris Hanson officiating.

Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the church.

Burial will follow services at Forest Home cemetery.

A memorial will be established in her name. Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343, has been entrusted with arrangements by the family.
