Joan M. Kindschuh

Joan M. Kindschuh, 72, formerly of Waupun, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, in Milwaukee.
Joan was born November 8, 1937, in Waupun, the daughter of the late William and Gertrude Van Deelen Vande Zande. She married
Robert “Bob” Kindschuh on September 20, 1956, in Waupun. The couple lived in Waupun where Bob served as chief of police for many years. After their retirement, they moved to Redgranite where they lived until Bob’s death in 2003.
Joan has lived in Ripon near her daughter for the past six years. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite where she belonged to the choir and ladies guild.
Joan is survived by: son, Michael (Tracy) Kindschuh, Green Bay; daughter, Pamela (Lance Schumacher) Kindschuh, Ripon; three grandchildren, Cole William Schumacher, Maxwell Robert Kindschuh and Faith Marie Kindschuh; brother, Bill (Ann) Vande Zande, Fond du Lac; two brothers-in-law, Donald (Erma) Kindschuh, Waupun and David (Sandy) Kindschuh, Green Bay; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Bill) Mueller, Brandon; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Joan M. Kindschuh will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 5 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite with the Rev. Dorothy Heckner-Mendonca officiating. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Thursday at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of service.

William H. Mitchell
Jan. 24, 1921-June 26, 2010
William H. Mitchell, 89, a resident of the Wisconsin Veterans’ Home at King, formerly of Wild Rose, was born Jan. 24, 1921. He joined his wife, Angeline M. Mitchell (nee Loubal) in heaven Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.
He is the beloved father of Carol (DuWayne), Kathleen, Diane (Jim), and Joan; dear grandfather of Frank, Derek, Jennifer, Chad and Pam, James, Tyler and Trisha, Justin and 12 great-grandchildren.
William is an honored Army
veteran and hero of World War II, a medic who saved countless lives and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a great man, who knew how to love.
Private family services will be held. The Ruminski Funeral Home of Redgranite is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mildred L. Groskreutz
Feb. 13, 1923-June 24, 2010
Mildred L. Groskreutz, 87, Wautoma, died Thursday morning, June 24, 2010, at Silver Lake Manor in Wautoma.
She was born Feb. 13, 1923, in the town of Shield, Marquette County, the daughter of Albert A. and Mina H. (Buchholz) Knaack. She married
Mabert M. Groskreutz on Nov. 28, 1964, in Princeton. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2005.
Mrs. Groskreutz was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wautoma. Mildred worked at the American Baptist Assembly for 22 years and retired after her marriage to Mabert.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Nancy (Jerry) DeBruin, Linda Zimmerman, Kathy (Vernon) Krause, Karl (Mary) Knaack, Kenneth (Tracy) Knaack, Gail (Tom) Trochinski, Kurt Knaack, Karen (special friend, Tim) Hesbrich, Lola (Dale) Zaug, Anita (Ron) Kautella, Dennis (Carolyn) Knaack; two sisters-in-law, Sadie Knaack and Margaret Ceman; further survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great nephew, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wilbur Knaack and Karl Knaack.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Wautoma with the Rev. Gregory D. Hyatt officiating. Burial will be in the Wautoma Union cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church.

Robert Frank Volkman, Sr.
Oct. 22, 1915-June 27, 2010
Robert (Bob) Volkman, 94, Wautoma, died June 27, 2010, at Rosemore Retirement Village in Wild Rose.
He was born in Milwaukee, on Oct. 22, 1915, to Frank and Mabel (TeBrake) Volkmann. He grew up in Oshkosh, attended Oshkosh High School and graduated from the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1939. Bob followed his father into the insurance business; his first job was working for the Fire Insurance Rating Bureau in Nashville, TN.
He returned to Wisconsin and married
his childhood sweetheart, Jean McVicar, in 1942. Bob served his country in the United States Army
during World War II with the 11th Armored Infantry in Germany and Austria from 1944 to 1946.
After completing his military service, Bob and his family settled in Wauwatosa where he lived for 18 years before moving to Brookfield. He worked for the Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Company and then the Miller’s National Insurance Company as a state agent. He earned the designation of CPCU (Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter) in 1963. He worked in the insurance industry for 40 years before retiring in 1980.
During and following his career, Bob and his wife were active in the Blue Goose, a social organization for field agents and their spouses, which afforded them many opportunities to travel throughout the United States and Canada. In retirement Bob volunteered thousands of hours over a 15-year period at Zablocki Veteran’s Hospital in West Allis.
Throughout his life, Bob spent summers at the family cottage on Big Hills Lake near Wild Rose. After retirement, he and his wife traveled to New Braunfels, Texas each winter where they enjoyed the company of many friends. They bought a home in Wautoma in 1996 where Bob lived for 13 years before moving to Rosemore Retirement Village in Wild Rose in November of 2009.
Golf, gardening and playing bridge were his favorite activities. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He spent many happy hours with family and friends on the golf course of the Waushara Country Club.
Robert Volkman is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean, Wautoma and two children, Nancy (Tom) Erickson, Wild Rose, and John Volkman, Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law, Lynn Volkman, Menomonee Falls; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Randall Zogbaum) Erickson, Sauk City and David (Jen) Volkman, Oceanside, CA and one great- grandson, Jackson Zogbaum. He is further survived by two nephews, Ronald Volkman, Oshkosh, and Richard Volkman, Palmer, AK.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his older son, Robert Volkman Jr., and his brother, Donald Volkman.
Bob had a long, full and good life that he shared generously with his family and many friends.

LEON J. BECHARD
May 19, 1920-Nov. 28, 2010
Leon J. Bechard, 90, New London, died on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010. Leon was born on May 19, 1920, in Bear Creek son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Spence) Bechard.
He was a 1939 graduate of Bear Creek High School. On Aug. 29, 1941, he was united in marriage to Bernice Woodward in New London. Leon worked at FWD in Clintonville for seven years and was the active Post Master in Bear Creek from 1954 to 1957. He also drove school bus in the Bear Creek school district for 10 years. He worked at Curwood in New London for 17 ½ years retiring in 1983. Leon owned and operated the Bechard Service Station in Bear Creek until 1994. He was very proud of being a volunteer firefighter in Bear Creek for 63 years.
Leon is survived by his children: Dennis (Lois) Bechard, Waupaca; Connie (Jack) Lehman, Appleton; Thomas (Sue) Bechard, Wautoma; and Debra Bechard, Waupaca. A brother, Rex (Alice) Bechard, Wild Rose; two sisters, Fern Paul, Greenville and Elaine Bechard, West Bend; a sister-in-law, Avis Thull, Florida. Grandchildren: Scott (Martha) Bechard, Steve (Lisa) Bechard, Jeffrey (Dawn) Lehman, Todd (Mary) Lehman, Brian Lehman, Craig (Andrea) Lehman, Deb (Larry) Van Straten, Mark Bechard, Chris Pelkey and Brittany Timm. He is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Leon will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London with Rev. Dr. Charles Tews officiating. Interment will be held in Union cemetery, Wild Rose. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home and also on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

LARRY J. KETTLEWELL
May 21, 1953-Nov. 26, 2010
Larry J. Kettlewell, 57, Waupaca, passed away unex- pectedly on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at his residence. Larry was born in Berlin on May 21, 1953, the son of John F. and Mary Ann (Christenson) Kettlewell.
On Sept. 24, 1977 Larry married
Susan Juliot in Appleton. Larry worked for 38 years at Thyssen-Krupp Foundry in Waupaca. He grew up enjoying hunting, fishing, raising a family and spending time with his life long friends. Larry spent the last 33 years lovingly married
to Susan. Larry continued to be a god-fearing, faithful servant of Jehovah God his entire life.
Larry is survived by his wife: Sue Kettlewell, Waupaca; his children: Kelly (Kurt) Miller, Waupaca and Bill (fiance’-Amanda Forbes) Kettlewell, Waupaca; his grandchildren: Hunter and Siera Miller; his parents: John and Mary Ann Kettlewell, Waupaca; his brother: Dan (Penny) Kettlewell, Waupaca; his sisters: Linda (Jim) Goddard, Waupaca; Wendy Kettlewell, Oak Harbor, WA; Rebecca (Mike) Bartley, Milwaukee, and Karla (Jason) Williams, Sedro-Wooley, WA; father and mother-in-law: Bud and Lois Juliot, Wild Rose; sister-in-law: Michele’ Schabo and best friends: Toby and Nancy Welch and Steve Ewald. Larry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Memorial services will be on Wednesday evening, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Waupaca. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kingdom Hall.

RICHARD J. BURNS
Feb. 11, 1938-Nov. 25, 2010
Richard J. Burns, 72, Wild Rose, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010 at his residence. Richard was born in the Town of Weston, Marathon County on Feb. 11, 1938, the son of the late James B. and Irma (Burke) Burns.
On Oct. 29, 1954 he married
Elaine Hansen in Hammond. He worked for American Motors and later was a LP service driver at Jenks Gas in Wild Rose. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wild Rose.
Richard is survived by his wife; Elaine Burns, Wild Rose; his son: Gary (Sue) Burns, Redgranite; two grandchildren: Josh (Tabitha) Burns and Becky Burns; two great grandchildren: Austin and Jonathan Burns; his brother: Donald Burns, Menomonie; Step-Mother: Gladys Burns, Menomonie; step-brother: Larry Joe Burns, Menomonie; step-sisters: Susie (Dave) Halverson, Mary Lou (Dory) Skillings and Linda Burns, all of Menomonie. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Wild Rose with Reverend Dale Bahls, officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

ADA MAE (FOLLETT) CONGDON
Nov. 24, 1919-Nov. 27, 2010
Ada Mae (Follett) Congdon passed away with her family at her side at Heartland House, Wautoma, on Nov. 27, 2010 after a short illness. She had celebrated her 91st birthday on Nov. 24. A life-long resident of Coloma, Ada Mae had resided at the Heartland House Assisted Living Facility for the last two years.
Ada Mae was born on Nov. 24, 1919 at the home of her parents, Darwin and Anna (Robinson) Follett. She attended elementary and high school at Coloma. Ada Mae and her siblings, Kenyon and Anabel, were taught a life-long love of travel on camping and educational trips with their parents. She attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison for one year before marrying Carl Phelps (Phil) Congdon on June 1, 1940 at her parents home. After their marriage, Phil assumed managerial duties and then ownership of the Coloma Mercantile.
Phil and Ada Mae raised five children. Paul Follett (Rosanne) Congdon, Marion, IA; James Carl (Cheryl) Congdon, Horicon; Thomas Darwin (Kathryn) Congdon, Coloma; David Vilas (Debra) Congdon, Satellite Beach, FL; Mary Anna (Charles) Baker, Cadiz, KY.
Ada Mae attended Waushara County Teachers College and was employed in music education for the Westfield School District at Coloma and Neshkoro elementary schools. She also gave private piano lessons. She continued her education in summer sessions at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. In later years she worked at the Coloma Mercantile Company.
Ada Mae and Phil retired in 1977 and began a period of travel, visiting all 50 states in their motor home. They settled as winter residents in Pharr, Texas at the Tropic Star Park. They spent 30 years there, forming many new friendships, before health required that she stop the journey south.
Ada Mae’s passions in life outside her family included travel, painting and music. She was proud that, after the death of Phil in 1996, she continued driving to her Texas home to the age of 88. At Tropic Star she often acted as driver for younger and older friends. She enjoyed painting from youth on. And as a musician she played piano and organ for the Coloma United Methodist church, many times as an accompianist, and at the chapel and many music functions at Tropic Star Park.
She is survived by her sister Anabel (Follett) Baker of Pensacola Beach, FL, and her sister-in-law Mary Fran (Kenyon) Follett of Tucson, AZ. In addition to her five children, she is survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband ; her parents; and two brothers, Kenyon Follett and Vilas Follett.
A Celebration of Ada Mae Congdon’s Life will be held Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Coloma United Methodist Church in Coloma at 1:30 p.m. Pastor William Dow will preside. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m. and until the time of the service. An inurnment service at Hillside cemetery in Coloma will follow. The family invites you to then join us at the church for a pie and ice cream social, provided by the Coloma Methodist Women.

JOHN DONALD DYER
Sept. 4, 1923-Nov. 25, 2010
John Donald Dyer, 87, Appleton, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010 at Brewster Village. He was born Sept. 4, 1923 in Toronto, Canada. John was the son of the late George and Pauline (Tripplehorn) Dyer. He married
Jewel Verhulst on May 3, 1947. John was general manager of the Oshkosh Container Division Plant of Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Oshkosh. He was a graduate of Lawrence College (Lawrence University), and earned his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
He served with the Army
in Europe during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. John was awarded both the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
During his years in Oshkosh he was president of Associated Industries prior to its merger with the Oshkosh Area Association of Manufacturers and Commerce. He was also president of Chamco, Inc., Hooper Building, and a founding director of the Oshkosh Area United Way. John was a director and vice-chairman of the Oshkosh National Bank (Bank One).
Much of his activity in the Oshkosh area was in fund raising. He was general chairman of the Citizen’s Committee for funding the Congressman William A. Steiger Memorial Wing of the Oshkosh Public Museum. He was special gifts chairman during the rebuilding of the Salvation Army
in Oshkosh. In addition, he was a trustee and chairman of the board of Wayland Academy, Beaver Dam, as well as trustee of Carroll College (Carroll University), in Waukesha.
John and Jewel enjoyed winters in Vero Beach, FL, for 25 years. In Florida, John was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was an avid bridge player and square dancer. He was also a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Stephen Hopkins Chapter. John served the chapter as captain. He was also a member of the John Howland Society.
John is survived by his wife: Jewel Dyer; and their daughters: Denise (Dick) Haight, Daryl (Donnie) Slye, and Debby Dyer; four grandchildren: Mike (Cory) Haight, Erin (Josh) Chudacoff, Rebecca Slye, and Jimmy (Erica) Slye; four great-grandchildren: Lillie and Cameron Chudacoff, and Emily and Allison Haight. He was preceded in death by his son, Jack Dyer.
The memorial service for John will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at Wichmann Funeral Home with Pastor David Rosene officiating. Inurnment will take place at Riverside cemetery, Appleton. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
