Knapp, Eunice Sunday, 22 Oct 2006
Eunice Knapp, of Port Orchard, died on Oct. 22, 2006, in Seattle.
She was 68.
She was born on March 16, 1938, in Donnybrook, N.D., to Waldon and Irene (Thompson) Smith.
She married
Robert L. Sauer in May 1954. Following his death in 1966, she married
Rolf Knapp in Port Orchard in April 1971.
She was a homemaker.
She collected bells and dolls.
She is survived by sons Robert (and wife Angela) Sauer of Port Orchard and Brian (and wife Michelle) Sauer of Port Orchard; daughter Cheri (and husband Gary) Bontrager of Stanwood; brothers Waldon “Smitty” Smith and Irvin and DeWayne Blowers, all of Port Orchard; sisters Vera Brown of Port Orchard and LaVonne Bond of Waco, Texas; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard on Oct. 27.
Kane, Joseph Saturday, 14 Oct 2006
Joseph M. Kane, formerly of Darby, Pa., died on Oct. 14, while serving his country outside Baghdad, Iraq, when the vehicle he was riding in hit an improvised explosive device.
He was 35.
He was born on May 28, 1971, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Joseph and Mary (Reed) Kane.
He graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, Pa. in 1990.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1991 and served one tour of duty in Germany, two tours in South Korea and was nearing the end of his second tour in Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge and multiple other awards.
While stationed at Fort Lewis, he met and married
Michelle French of Belfair. They were married
on April 25, 1998.
He loved music, especially playing the guitar. He also loved food — both cooking it and eating it.
Joey is survived by his wife, Michelle Kane; daughter Mikayla Kane; sons Daniel and Brendan Kane, all of Belfair; parents Joseph and Mary Kane of West Chester, Pa.; sister Joanne (and husband Michael) Vogel; and grandmother Catherine Reed of Drexel Hill, Pa.
A funeral service was held at the Belfair Assembly of God Church in Belfair on Oct. 26. Burial with full military honors was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.

Schmitz, Leonard Saturday, 07 Oct 2006
Leonard J. Schmitz, of Port Orchard, died on Oct. 7, 2006, at Ridgemont Terrace.
He was 91.
He was born on Nov. 6. 1914, in Perham, Minn., to Balthasar and Gertrude (Lein) Schmitz.
He married
Evelyn Mutchler on April 9, 1941, in Port Orchard.
He worked as a self-employed auto mechanic and owner of the Richfield Service Station in Port Orchard until his retirement in 1970.
He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by sons Ted (and wife Sandy) Schmitz of Port Orchard and James (and wife Gert) Holmes of Lakeland, Fla.; daughters Darlene (and husband Roland) Meier of Port Orchard, Sandra Ramsey of Tacoma, and Nancy (and husband Dick) Heembrock of Port Orchard; and 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Schmitz and 10 siblings.
A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Oct. 14 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Burial will follow at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Brown, Delores Thursday, 05 Oct 2006
Delores May Brown, of Tillamook, Ore., died on Oct. 5, 2006.
She was 75.
She was born on April 13, 1931, in Kelso.
She was a musician.
She was a member of the Elks and the Moose Club.
She is survived by son Joseph Brown and Maria Dahl of Bellingham; daughter Debra (and husband Greg) Wyman of Port Orchard; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Joseph Brown.
Funeral plans were not announced.
Brown, Sarah Tuesday, 03 Oct 2006
Sarah S. Brown, of Silverdale, died on Oct. 3, 2006, in Poulsbo.
She was 84.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1922, in Ardoch, N.D., to Frank and Apollonia (Gerszewski) Michalski.
She married
Richard Brown on Jan. 22, 1946, in East Parks, Minn.
She was a homemaker and mother.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary (Post 149) in Bremerton.
She is survived by sons Eugene J. (and wife Viola) Brown, of Everett, and Duel (and wife Seenie) Brown of Port Orchard; daughters Dee (and husband Tim) McIntyre, of Bremerton, Gidget Dunn of Poulsbo, Shirley (and husband Mike) Robinson of Bremerton, and Kimberly Burgener (and husband Skip) Piseck of North Dakota; sister Mary Rose Jiskra, of Bismarck, N.D.; and 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Leonard and Ralph Michalski and sisters Millie Sobolik and Cecelia Burtell.
A visitation is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 10, at Rill Life Tribure Center, followed by a funeral at 11.
Remembrances can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Scott, William Tuesday, 03 Oct 2006
William Robert Scott, of Port Orchard, died on Oct. 3, 2006, at home.
He was 83.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1922, in Annapolis, to James and Sarah Ellen (Thomas) Scott.
He married
Ferne Gladys Stine on Nov. 5, 1946, in Port Orchard.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of chief petty officer.
He spent 36 years working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an engineering technician in combat systems before retiring in 1977.
He then spent another five years as an engineering technician with Art Anderson & Associates.
He was a member of the Port Orchard Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Ferne Scott, of Port Orchard; son Kevin Scott of California; daughters Kathi (and husband Bill) Shaner, of Abilene, Texas, and Karen (and husband Jeff) Schumaker of Portland, Ore.; sister Eulalia Wallis of Tacoma; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the Port Orchard Church of Christ. Burial will follow at the Knights of Pythias cemetery.

Haase, Lawrence Monday, 25 Sep 2006
Lawrence Haase, of Port Orchard, died on Sept. 25, 2006, at home.
He was 91.
He was born April 15, 1915, in Stanley, Wisc., to Louis and Caroline (Blazell) Haase.
He moved to Bremerton in 1938.
He married
Alice Running in August 1948. Following her death in 1989, he married
Marie Benham-Greene in October 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 41st infantry division. He served throughout the South Pacific Islands as a cook and sniper.
He worked at Presto Industries in Eau Claire, Wisc., before taking a carpenter apprenticeship. Worked for L.G. Arnold for 18 years, in commercial construction, then continued working for A.A. Hoehn, Inc., (25 years of which he was a foreman) until retirement at age 65.
He was a Catholic and attended St. Micheal’s Church in Olympia.
He volunteered for the Eau Claire Historical Society reconstructing the Logging Camp Exhibition. He was especially proud of the ice cream parlor he helped build for the Chippewa Valley Museum in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
He enjoyed furniture building, lathework, playing cards and traveling.
He is survived by daughter Francis Pixley of New Port Richey, Fla.; brothers Herbert Haase, of Eau Claire, Wisc., and Raymond Haase, of Stanley, Wisc.; sisters Dorothea (and husband Fritz) Jappe, of Bremerton, and Lucille Haaze, of Seattle; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Haase, and his second wife, Marie Haase; and brothers Henry Haase and Clarence Haase.
There will be a graveside service in the spring of 2007, in Eau Claire, Wisc.
Dagnie, Winnifred Saturday, 23 Sep 2006
Winnifred Terrell Dagnie, of Port Orchard, died on Sept. 23, 2006, in Bremerton.
She was 91.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1915, in Penderille, Idaho, to Carl and Jessie (Randall) Crompton.
She married
Charles Leo Terrell in 1934. Following his death in 1979, she married
Earl Dagnie in 1985.
She graduated from Spokane High School and was a homemaker and office manager for Kitsap Motors in Port Orchard.
She is survived by daughter Annette Evans of Yuma, Ariz., and nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by first husband Charles Leo Terrell and second husband Earl Dagnie; daughter Marlene Darnell and son Robert Terrell.
A visitation is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 30 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, followed by a funeral at 11. Burial will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Remembrances can be made to Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
