Johnson, Edith Monday, 06 Feb 2006
Edith J. Johnson, of Port Orchard, died on Feb. 6, 2006, at Highline Medical Center in Tukwila. She was 64.
She was born on May 19, 1941, in Thermopolis, Wyoming, to Elmer and Orpha (Hovey) Wallingford.
She married
Billie Johnson on July 24, 1970, in Bremerton.
She graduated from South Kitsap High School.
She was a retail clerk at the former Max Grocery store in Purdy until 1970 and later was a childcare provider for Holland’s Pump of Wauna.
She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church of Port Orchard and TOPS in Gig Harbor.
She enjoyed reading and cooking.
She is survived by husband Bill Johnson, of Port Orchard; sons Eldon (and wife Becky) Cornman, of Gresham, Ore., Kevin (and wife Gigi) Cornman of Virginia Beach, Va., and Michael (and wife Krysty) Cornman of Chehalis; step-sons Phillip (and wife Fay) Johnson of Port Orchard, William Arthur, Patrick of Johnson of Port Orchard, and Karl (and wife Showy) Johnson, of Kenai, Alaska; daughter Karen (and husband Randy) Wengesm of Hoqiuam; step-daughters Catherine Johnson of Gig Harbor, Margaret (and husband John) Tommila, of Goldendale, Christina (and husband Dan) Johnson of Silvercreek; and Kathleen Johnson of Soldotna, Alaska; brothers Elmer (and wife Peggy) Wallingford od Whitehall, Mont., and Kenneth Wallingford of Bremerton; and 37 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Feb. 13 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Port Orchard, with burial to follow at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 at Tahoma National cemetery.
Nebriaga, Candida Sunday, 05 Feb 2006
Candida “Ely” Nebriaga, of Port Orchard, died on Feb. 5, 2006, at home.
She was 77.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1928, in the Philippines, to Jose and Filomena De Vera.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by sons Noel (and wife Vangie) Nebriaga, Nolan (and wife Faye) Nebriaga and Michael (and wife Joy) Nebriaga, all of the Philippines; daughters Marilyn Nebruaga, Mildred (and husband Bert) Carrera, and Sheila (and husband Bob) Periquet; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 9 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Burial was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
Knox, Charles Saturday, 04 Feb 2006
Charles E. “Chuck” Knox, of Port Orchard, died on Feb. 4, 2006, at home.
He was 79.
He was born on July 28, 1926, in Buhl, Idaho, to Everett and Eula (Goode) Knox.
He married
Olive Bakken on Nov. 27, 1943, in Bremerton.
He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He then spent 30 years as an auto body repairman at the Highway Garage in Gorst.
He later worked in highway construction, preparing roads for striping.
He enjoyed watching sports.
He is survived by wife Olive Knox of Port Orchard; by his mother, Eula Knox, of Boise, Idaho; daughters Linda (and husband Don) Craig, of Shelton, Barbara (and husband Merle) Lysne, of Covington, Cheryl Wenner, and Renae (and husband Ron) Ward, both of Port Orchard; brother Robert (and wife Mary Ann) Knox, of Bear Lake, Minn.; sister Su (and husband Chuck) Badger of Encinitas, Calif.; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Alyce Stetson.
Family and friends will gather at the family home on Feb. 11 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Remembrances can be made to a children’s charity of the giver’s choice.
Chambers, Alvin Wednesday, 01 Feb 2006
Alvin W. Chambers, of Port Orchard, died on Feb. 1, 2006, at home.
He was 84.
He was born on Oct. 22, 1921, in Lansford, N.D., to Archie and Cora (Hall) Chambers.
He married
Gwendolyn Hughes on Dec, 21, 1963, in Vancouver, Wash.
He attended Lansford (N.D.) High School and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the sub tender USS Holland as a deep sea diver during World War II.
He later worked for 30 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, starting as a chipper/caulker and eventually becoming a shipfitter. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of the Orchard Fraternal Order of Eagles and was active in the South Kitsap Girls Softball Association.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing and golf.
He is survived by companion Deloris Parkins, of Port Orchard; son Brock Chambers, of Port Orchard; daughters Julie (and husband Gerald) Brummond, of Port Orchard, Carolyn Gabourie, of Port Orchard, and Valarie (and husband William) Pickett, of Charlotte, N.C.; sister Helen Medler, of Portland, Ore., and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Mae (Swetman) Chambers, and by brothers Herb and Albert Chambers.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Feb. 10 at Miller-Woodlawn cemetery, with inurnment to follow.

Gilman, Gordon Monday, 30 Jan 2006
Gordon C. “Gil” Gilman, of Port Orchard, died on Jan. 30, 2006, at home. He was 84.
He was born on April 28, 1921, in New Effington, N.D., to Willard and Jessie Gilman.
He married
Jacqueline Matteson in Port Orchard in 1965.
He attended High School in Rhinelander, Wis., and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1964, during both World War II and the Korean War.
He then spent 20 years working for the South Kitsap School District as a bus driver and custodian.
He enjoyed reading westerns, watching football and the outdoors.
He is survived by wife Jacqueline Gilman, of Port Orchard; son Tony (and wife Kathy) Gilman of Yuba City, Calif.; daughters Robin (and husband Wayne) Hill, Melissa (and husband Shane) Gardner, Darcy (and husband Tom) Notar, all of Port Orchard; brother Gail Gilman of San Diego, Calif.; sisters Lucy Skinner, Inez Riley, Darlene Brower and Karen Statezny, all of Wisconsin, and Shirley Hale of Minnesota; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Florence Belongia and brother Itha George Gilman.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 3 at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Benson, A.C. Sunday, 29 Jan 2006
A.C. “Bud” Benson, of Port Orchard, died on Jan. 29, 2006, at home. He was 75.
He was born on April 18, 1930, in Longview to Walter and Opal (Yenne) Benson.
He married
Darlene Norma Seward in 1950 and was divorced in 1958. He married
Kathryn Benson in 1993.
He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1948.
He worked as an insurance agent with Met Life for 20 years until 1990.
He was later a custodian at South Kitsap High School from 1985 to 1995.
He was a life member of Kiwanis, a life member of the Elks Club, and a member of Thousand Trails/Nacco West.
He enjoyed traveling — he visited Europe, China and all over the United States — camping, gardening, golf and photography.
He is survived by sons Chris (and wife Sandy) Benson, of Des Moines and Laird (and wife Cindy) Benson, of Port Angeles; daughters Rebecca (and husband Tom) Riepe of Port Angeles, Desiree (and husband Dan) Smith, of Port Orchard, and Peggy Cordz, of Kent; sister Cheryl (and husband Charlie) Johnson of Clarkston, and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Feb. 4, at 2 p.m., at First Lutheran Church, 2535 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard.

Wright, Mayola Thursday, 26 Jan 2006
May Sarah Wright, of Port Orchard, died on Jan. 26, 2006.
She was 102.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1903, in Dickinson County, Iowa, to Steven and Eliza (Dow) Myers.
She married
George Wright on June 29, 1921.
She attended the Elkhorn School in Beech, N.D., and became a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, playing cards and reading her Bible.
She was an active member the Sunnyslope Garden Club, Mary Martha Circle, and the Gorst Baptist Community Church.
She is survived by sons Ted (and wife Catherine) Wright and Jay Wright of Port Orchard, and Ben (and wife Judy) Wright of Bremerton; daughters-in-law Leona of Montesano and Kay (and husband Ralph) Doubles of Apache Junction; and 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 24 great, great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wright; sons Richard and Donald Wright; daughter Joy; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for Feb. 4, at 11 a.m., at Gorst Baptist Community Church.

Myers, Donald Saturday, 23 Sep 2006
Donald Edward Myers, of Lakebay, died on Sept. 23, 2006, at the Washington State Soldiers Home in Orting.
He was 73.
He was born on Aug. 19, 1933, in South Bend, Ind., and married
his wife, Marilyn Myers, on Aug. 3, 1989, in Seattle.
He was an organ technician for 30 years until his retirement in 1990.
He was a lifetime member of the American Theater Organ Society. He attended the Family Bible Church of Olalla, and the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gig Harbor, where he also played the organ.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Myers, of Lakebay; son James Myers of Seattle; stepson Charlie Pilcher of Lakebay; brothers David and Gene Myers of Olalla; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
A memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. at Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., in Kent.
