Macy, William Wednesday, 31 Mar 2004
William A. Macy, 62, a Port Orchard resident, died March 31, 2004, at Madigan Army Medical Center.
He was born on June 8, 1941, in Astoria, Ore.
He was a disabled veteran and served 20 years in the U.S. Army including two tours in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, five overseas service bars, Good Conduct Medal (sixth award), Army Commendation Medal, and Expert Qualification Badge (M-16).
He enjoyed RVing, sailing, rock hunting and long walks on the beach.
He is survived by his wife Rose M. Macy; son John Macy; daughters Phyllis Crumrine, Petra Simson and Kim Hebert; sisters Helen Hayward, Betty Macy and Loise Weeks; and grandchildren Jacob Macy, William Macy, Haley Macy, Nazareth Grantham, Shyla Grantham, Jeremy Mullin, Taylor Mullins and Nicholas Mullins and great-granddaughter Jazmine.
Services were held on Friday, April 16, 2004, at Tahoma cemetery in Kent.
Sims, Homer Thursday, 25 Mar 2004
Homer C. Sims, Sr., 85, of Port Orchard, died March 25 at his home.
He was born on Dec. 6, 1918, in Birmingham, Ala., to Homer and Sara (Hubbard) Sims.
He married
Rebecca DeJesus Sevilla in Bremerton in 1981.
He served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1966 as a hospital corpsman first class, and earned a Purple Heart during the battle of Iwo Jima.
Following his retirement from the Navy, he went to work as manager of a McDonalds restaurant in San Diego.
He later worked as a maintenance employee at Keyport Naval Station.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps after high school and before joining the Navy. He was a Shriner and an avid bowler.
He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Church in Port Orchard.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca Sims of Port Orchard; sons SeBron and wife Linda Sims of Federal Way, LeeRoy and wife karen Sims of Olympia, Homer Jr. “Cleve” and wife Cindy Sims of Sequim, and Charles Sims and friend Debbie of Silverdale; daughter Teresa Otto of Graham; and grandchildren Daniel, Kenneth, Jennifer, Jarod, Matthew, Jason, Ashley, Mark, Chris, Derick and Nicole; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on April 1, 2004 at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center. Interment was at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Larson, Janice Sunday, 21 Mar 2004
Janice L. Larson, 51, a resident of Bremerton, died March 21, 2004.
She was born on April 29, 1952, in Walla Walla to William E. and Frances (Allard) Ruther.
She married
Kenneth Larson on Feb. 26, 1983, in Walla Walla.
She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1970. She worked as a medical clinic office manager for 10 years.
She was a member of the Bremerton Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Larson of Bremerton; sons Steven Larson and Erik Larson of Bremerton; daughter Michelle F. Larson of Bremerton; and brother William E. Ruther III.
She was preceded in death by her son Matthew G. Larson.
Services were held on March 26 at the Bremerton Church of the Nazarene.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Williams, Shirley Thursday, 18 Mar 2004
Shirley “Willie” C. Williams, 77, a resident of Port Orchard, died March 18, 2004.
He was born on March 26, 1926, in Burlington, N.D., to Richard Dee and Eva (Gordon) Williams.
He married
Jennie “Penny” (Gandolfo) Williams on April 11, 1948 in New Orleans, La. She preceded him in death in 2002.
He attended Des Lacs High School in Des Lacs, N.D. and received his GED.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years achieving the rank of First Class Ships Serviceman. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He loved Packards, attending auctions and yard sales, collected antiques, victrolas and dolls, and was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve Association and a past member of the VFW.
He enjoyed country western music and Lawrence Welk.
He is survived by his sons Rich and wife Sharon Williams of Port Orchard, Paul C. Williams of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Pete Williams and wife Laurie Williams of Port Orchard; brother Alton Williams of Hall, Mont.; sister Bonnie Jo Hennes of Missoula, Mont.; and grandchildren Benjamin, Shellee, Jason, Dustin, Bridgette, Jeff, Deanndra and Aaron and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on March 26 at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center and inurnment was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Huddleston, Robert Wednesday, 26 May 2004
Robert Ray Huddleston, 66, a resident of Port Orchard, died May 26, 2004, at Madigan Army Medical Center.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1937, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Ray and Julia (Brezko) Huddleston.
He was a master sergeant in the United States Air Force and worked as an aircraft mechanic. He retired in 1976 after 20 years.
He then worked for 20 years as a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and retired in 1998.
He enjoyed showing and breeding Pekingese dogs, restoring cars and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Madge (Barrett) Huddleston of Port Orchard and brothers Herbert and Richard Huddleston, both of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his brother Gerald.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Rill Chapel.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Purdy, Ann Tuesday, 25 May 2004
Ann K. Purdy, 87, formerly of Port Orchard, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in Anacortes.
She was born Anna Katarina Lux on Nov. 8, 1916, in Kremlin, Montana.
She married
George Purdy in 1936 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in nearby Chinook. The couple moved to the Northwest in 1940 where they spent the rest of their lives living in Port Orchard.
She enjoyed the outdoors, community, and church work, sewing and artwork, gardening and extensive travels in retirement.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, and was the last of 14 siblings.
She is survived by her four daughters and their husbands — Diann and Ed Bradley of Anacortes; Patty and Gary Ormiston, of Republic; Georgia and Tom Davis of Sequim; and Sally and Sam Green of Waldron Island, as well as 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Anacortes on Tuesday, May 25 at 3 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard on Wednesday, May 26, at 3 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to your local Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel, Anacortes.
Hawkins, Marillyn Saturday, 22 May 2004
Marillyn L. Hawkins, 66, a Port Orchard resident, died May 22, 2004, in Tacoma.
She as born on June 6, 1937, in Oakville to Howard and Ida (Joyce) Wheeler.
She married
Robert E. Hawkins in Sept. 19, 1955, in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.
She attended high school in Bremerton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed family gatherings, the Mariners, her children and grandchildrsen, and sports.
She is survived by her husband Robert Hawkins of Port Orchard; sons Edward and his wife Marla of Gig Harbor, Shawn and his wife Bambi of Port Orchard, and Jerry and his wife Valerie of Bremerton; daughters Betty Benson and her husband Scott of Ellensburg and Amy Snorts and her husband Greg of Port Orchard; brother Tom Wheeler of Rochester; sisters Connie Grahn of Bremerton and Barbie Lloyd of Granite Falls; and grandchildren Tyler, Kyle Myles, Brandon, Travis, Randi, Betsy, Kellon, Dwayne, Kirstin, Reilly, Megan, Josh, Andrew, Ashlee, Lindsey, Jacob and Madilyn; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on May 27, 2004, at Rill Chapel.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakville.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Alzheimer Association, Cancer Society or Children’s Hospital.
Loch, James Thursday, 20 May 2004
James J. Loch, of Port Orchard, died on May 20, 2004, in Silverdale.
He was 82.
He was born on April 23, 1922, in Forman, N.D. to Peter and Catherine (Schmitz) Loch.
He married
Josephine E. Bozik in 1951 in Port Orchard.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1943 and then worked as a carpenter for 30 years at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard before retiring in 1980.
He and his wife were avid square dancers. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and salvaging scrap metals and recyclables.
He was preceeded in death by his wife in 1995 and sisters Mary, Elvina and Rose; brothers Frank and Isadore Loch; and step-brothers Henry and Clarence.
He is survived by his son, David Loch of Kenmore; brothers Alvin and Andy Loch, both of Port Orchard; and grandchildren Jonathan, Timothy and Brian Loch.
At his request, memorial services and interment at Sunset Lane cemetery will be private.
