Frederick, Mary Ann Friday, 07 Nov 2003
Mary Ann Frederick, 81, a resident of Port Orchard, died Nov. 7, 2003, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born in Elma on Aug. 18, 1922, to Fred and Amelia (Murray) Rowe.
She married
Walter C. Frederick on Nov. 26, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She graduated from Elma High School and attended Business College in Seattle. She was a clerk for the state of Washington and a homemaker.
She was an active church member, participated in Care Friends and O.W.L.S., and was a Silver Sneakers member. She enjoyed family, friends, her African violets and her dog Missy.
She is survived by her daughter Trudy Valdez and her husband Izzy; son Timothy Frederick and his wife Sarah; granddaughters Amy Frederick, Reagan Borden-Johnson and Adriann Jordan; grandson Seth Valdez; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard on Nov. 15, 2003.
Memorial donations can be made to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund or Heifer International.
Laurant, Hazel Friday, 07 Nov 2003
Hazel Elizabeth Laurant, 52, a resident of Port Orchard, died Nov. 7, 2003.
She was born on March 2, 1951, in Buffalo, N.Y. to Samuel McGee, Sr., and Pinkie (Floyd) McGee. She married
Glendell Laurant, Sr. on April 22, 1972, in Los Angeles, Calif.
She graduated from Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles in 1969 and from Oregon State University and Los Angeles Trade Technical College.
She was an insulator at PSNS for 13 years and retired in 2000.
She was also a designer at a leather coat factory and was a surveyor for the City of Los Angeles.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, photography and traveling.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Glendell Laurant, Sr., of Slidell, La.; son Glendell Laurant, Jr., of Port Orchard; daughters Vertesia Olson and her husband Ture of Port Orchard and Lydia Laurant also of Port Orchard; brothers Samuel McGee, Jr. and his wife Jozine of Los Angeles and Darius McGee and his wife Elaine of Los Angeles; sisters Anita McGee of Los Angeles, Deborah McGee of Los Angeles and Alethea Edwards and her husband Norman of Middleton, Md.; a great uncle; 5 uncles; three aunts; six nieces and nephews; and grandchildren Michael, Desiree, Cedric, Darion and Jonas.
A funeral was held on Nov. 13, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Port Orchard. Interment was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Palmer, Evelyn Saturday, 07 Feb 2004
Evelyn Palmer, 79, died in Ephrata on Feb. 7, 2004.
She was born Evelyn M. Avery in Lewistown, Mont, on Sept. 8, 1924, and spent her youth in Shelton and Bremerton.
Over the years Evelyn loved the farm life, taking care of her animals and gardening.
For the past 35 years she resided in the Moses Lake and Ephrata area.
She and husband Louis Palmer spent many years raising miniature horses, fishing and camping.
She is survived by her brothers Everett (Buddy) and Clayton (Junior) Avery of Poulsbo, Washington. She raised her first family in Vaughn and Port Orchard with the late M.D. Bud O’Birene.
She is survived by son Larry Gunter of Victorville, Calif.; daughters Patricia Farrer of Goldendale and Linda Chernoff of Garden Valley, Calif.
Later in life while married
to the late Miles Clingan, she raised three of his grandchildren: Lori, Tracie and Gayle Clingan.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
No services will be conducted following a private cremation.

Hartman, Elizabeth Monday, 02 Feb 2004
Elizabeth Hunter Hartman, 97, a Kirkland resident, died Feb. 2, 2004.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1906, in County Antrim, Ireland, to Robert and Rachel (McAleese) Hunter.
She married
Howard L. Hartman on May 22, 1938, in Grand Junction, Colo. He preceded her in death in 1977.
She was a homemaker and a former hospital worker at Edinburgh Hospital in Scotland and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, Wash.
She is survived by her son Richard and wife Sandra Hartman of Bellevue; daughter Jean and husband Bud Leathers of Covington; grandchildren Dawn Martinez, Douglas Leathers, Ryan Leathers, Heather Song, Shane Hartman, Kirk Hartman, Ian Hartman and Trent Hartman; great-grandchildren Lane Leathers, Kailey Leathers, Jordan Leathers and Will Hartman; and numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S., Great Britain and Australia.
She was preceded in death by her brother James Hunter, sisters Jane, Martha, Rachel, Sarah, Mary, Nettie, Cathy, Anna and Jennie.
There will be a private service. Interment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.

Donald Zenos Ames, Jr., 41, contractor
Donald Zenos Ames, Jr., 41, a resident of Bremerton, died Feb. 2, 2004.
He was born on July 18, 1962, in Chula Vista, Calif., to Donald Zenos Ames, Sr. and Karen (Hoppell) Ames.
He married
Misty E. Price on May 20, 2000. He received his GED from South Kitsap High School.
He worked as a general contractor for five years.
He is survived by his wife Misty Price of Bremerton; parents Donald and Karen Ames; brother Tim Ames of Port Orchard; sisters Rhonda and husband Phil Kennedy of Port Angeles and Trishia and husband Glen of El Cajon, Calif.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004.
Interment will be at Ames cemetery in Sweet Home, Ore. on Feb. 10, 2004.

Dunlap, Marion Monday, 02 Feb 2004
Marion M. Dunlap, 85, a Bremerton resident, died Feb. 2, 2004.
She was born on April 5, 1918, in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada, to Sydney and Jean (Hinton) Gosnell.
She married
Lewis A. Dunlap, Sr. on June 4, 1937, in Vancouver, B.C. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She worked as a kitchen attendant for the Hearthstone Restaurant in Bremerton until 1986.
She is survived by her sons Ralph Dunlap of Seattle and James C. Dunlap, Sr. of Union Gap; grandchildren Lewis Iversen, James C. Dunlap, Jr., Jennifer Cleary and Julie Dunlap; and great-grandchildren Heather and Jordan Cleary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Lewis A. Dunlap, Jr. and daughter Luella Dunlap.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Crump, Dennis Tuesday, 27 Jan 2004
Dennis Crump, 52, PSNS engineer
Dennis C. Crump, 52, a resident of Bremerton, died Jan. 22 in San Diego, Calif.
He was born May 7, 1951, in St. Louis, Mo. to Orville H. and Nedra (Cunningham) Crump.
He married
Donna (Johnson) Crump on May 6, 1972, in Brentwood, Mo.
He graduated from Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, Mo. and later served in the Navy from 1970 to 1974, achieving the rank of Machinist Mate Third Class.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a technical engineer from 1974 until his death.
He was a Boy Scout leader for more than 10 years. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling to exotic places and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; his mother, who lives in St. Charles, Mo.; and his sons Gregory C. Crump of Seattle and Geoffrey C. Crump of Ellensburg.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Sauer, Lawrence Tuesday, 27 Jan 2004
Lawrence Ivan Sauer, 84, a resident of Port Orchard, died Jan. 27, 2004, at Ridgemont Terrace.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1919, in Hartley, Iowa, to Henry G. and Edna M. (Longbottom) Sauer.
He graduated from Hartley High School in 1936. He attended the University of Colorado, John Brown University and he graduated from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Okla., in 1954 with a degree in Business administration with an accounting emphasis.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945 as a sergeant. He graduated from Air Corps Technical School as a machinist. He spent three years in southwestern Pacific islands of Biak and New Caledonia repairing P-47 Thunderbolt fighter planes.
He was an accountant in Chicago for Teledyne Industries. He retired in 1984. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his brother Wilbur “Bill” Sauer of Port Orchard; nieces Valerie Hart, Miriam Walter and Rebecca Robins, all of Port Orchard and Wanda (Sauer) Calder of Portland, Ore.; and nephew Daniel Sauer of Port Orchard.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Oliver “Bud” Sauer, Donald Sauer and Roger Sauer and sister Cleo Sauer.
A family memorial is being planned.
