Burchard, James Saturday, 29 Nov 2003
James R. “Jim” Burchard, 76, a resident of Port Orchard, died Nov. 29, 2003, at Ridgemont Terrace.
He was born on April 12, 1927, in Havre, Mont., to Charles and Anna Mae (Dubois) Burchard.
He married
June (Scott) Burchard on June 15, 1952, in Fort Benton, Mont.
He attended Havre High School and Northern Montana Col-lege in Havre.
He received his GED while in the military.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II until 1944.
He worked for Great Northern Railroad for 20 years retiring as a pipefitter/sheet metal mechanic.
He worked at PSNS as a pipefitter and retired in 1981 as a reactor plant general foreman after 15 years.
He was active in the church, building the original church and its second phase and with leadership in the church.
He owned and operated family grocery stores in Manchester and Olalla, and built three of the family’s homes.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He s survived by his wife June Burchard of Port Orchard; sons Bryant Burchard, Reed Burchard and his wife Cheryl and Chuck Burchard all of Port Orchard; daughters Becki Kabelac and her husband Ron of Port Orchard; daughter-in-law Ellura Duplex of Evans, Colo.; brothers Sam Burchard of Calif., Vern Burchard of Havre, Mont., and Gary Burchard of Spokane; sisters Alyce Matson, Peggy Cloke and Mary Kelly all of Spokane, Doreen Gault of Havre, Mont., and Evelyn Hoffman of Missoula, Mont.; and 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Robert Burchard and grandchildren Jason, Thomas and Shalynn.
Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Spencer-Kemp, Gael Friday, 28 Nov 2003
Gael Ethlyn Spencer-Kemp, 83, a former resident of Port Orchard, died Nov. 28 at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in LaGrande, Ore.
She was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Santa Barbara, Calif. to Robert Casey and Leonora Ethlyn (Saunders) Spencer.
She married
Don Elias Kemp on Nov. 25, 1939, in Santa Barbara, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1938. She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed sewing and reading and was an artist. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She is survived by her daughters Judy Myles and her husband Anthony of Gig Harbor and Sheri Chandler and her husband Dale of LaGrande, Ore.; also seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Hazel H. Taylor.
A graveside service was held yesterday at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Jackson, R. Dale Thursday, 27 Nov 2003
Rev. R. Dale Jackson, 83, died on Nov. 27, 2003, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
He was born Aug. 27, 1920 in Seattle to Samuel and Jennie Jackson. He graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle in 1938.
He married
Marge Jackson on Dec. 13, 1940, in Seattle.
He worked for Boeing Co. for a number of years and then attended Bible School at Bethel Temple in Seattle.
He was ordained in 1951 as a minister at Immanuel Gospel Temple in Los Angeles.
He and his family moved to Melbourne, Australia where they pastored for several years and then moved to Sydney, Australia, pastoring at Brent Street Mission from 1962 to 1978. They later moved to Hawaii, where he pastored at Grace Bible in Honolulu from 1978 to 1981.
They served as associate pastors at Word of Life in Kent from 1981 to 1987 and pastored at Kauai Bible Church in Kuaui, Hawaii, from 1988 to1992. He retired in 1992 and moved to Port Orchard where he attended Christian Life Center in Port Orchard.
He is survived by his son, Ron, and his wife, Joy, of Federal Way; daughter, Donna Heath, and her husband, Dennis, of Port Orchard; sister, Naomi Murphy, and her husband, Jim, of Burbank; brother Ralph Jackson and his wife, Dottie, of Federal Way; grandchildren, Susan Reed, and her husband, Harry, of Olalla; Dean Jackson and his wife, Debbie, of Federal Way; Michelle Dudley and her husband, Johnny, of Tacoma; four great-grandchildren Brandon and Tayler Jackson and Stephen and Conner Reed.
He was preceded in death by his wife on May 3, 2003; two brothers, Ray and Robert; and a great-grandson.
A memorial service in remembrance of he and his wife will be held at Christian Life Center in Port Orchard on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m.
Marvin, Roger Sunday, 23 Nov 2003
Dr. Roger T. Marvin, 68, of Port Orchard, died Nov. 23 at home.
He was born in Machlas, N.Y. in 1935.
He married
Anna Marvin on Nov. 18, 1963, in Tacoma. She preceded him in death.
He graduated from Ten Brook Academy in 1953 and attended the University of Buffalo Dental School. Upon graduating in 1960, he joined the Navy and was sent to Iwakuni, Japan.
He served as a dentist in the Navy in both Japan and in Norfolk, Va., where he met his future wife.
Before retiring from the Navy, he achieved the rank of lieutenant.
He worked as a dentist in Port Orchard for 40 years, starting in 1963 and continuing up to the day of his death.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and horseback riding.
He also had a private pilot’s license.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Lucille (Evans) Morton of Franklinville, N.Y.; his daughters Barbara M. Kaiser of Sultan and Angela Ledington Fischer of Wallua, Hawaii; son Robert L. Marvin of King Salmon, Alaska; also four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Villwock, Doris Monday, 10 Nov 2003
Doris V. Villwock, 76, a resident of Port Orchard, died Nov. 10, 2003 at Manor Care in Gig Harbor.
She was born on July 4, 1927, in Macoupin Co., Ill., to Allen and Dora (Steward) McIntyre.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing club and gardening. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Gerald O. Villwock; sons Paul Villwock of Puyallup and David Villwock of Auburn; daughter Linda Cronce of Port Orchard; and granddaughter Jessica Cronce.
She was preceded in death by her brother Robert McIntyre.
Visitation was held on Nov. 13, 2003, at Rill Chapel and a memorial was held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on Nov. 14, 2003. Interment was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.

Carroll, Michael Saturday, 08 Nov 2003
Michael A. Carroll, Sr., 52, a resident of Bremerton, died Nov. 8, 2003.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1950, in Seattle to Emil and Junelle (Pitkin) Carroll.
He graduated from Sealth High School in Seattle in 1968 and received his masters degree in business from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore., in 1989.
He worked as a grocery manager.
He enjoyed golf and fishing. He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his parents Emil and Junelle Carroll of Port Orchard and his son Michael Carroll, Jr., of Auburn.
A funeral service will be held at Rill Chapel at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003. Interment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.

Conklin, Richard Saturday, 08 Nov 2003
Richard Floyd Conklin, Jr., 50, died Nov. 8, 2003.
He was born in Belflower, Calif. on May 4, 1953.
He married
Minde Crake on Dec. 13, 1997.
He was a grader equipment operator, owned his own business of paving driveways and doing construction projects and worked for the South Kitsap County road department.
He enjoyed traveling, working with his hands and creating furniture and toys.
He is survived by his wife Minde; mother Lennie Schoiber; daughter Kathy Smith and her husband Damion; son Sam Conklin and his wife Tori; grandchildren Devan, Courtney, Camry, Dominic and Madison; siblings Zandy, Harland, Robin, Oren, John, Shanda, Cee-Cee, Shawn and Sharla; step-children Kelly, Tyson, Jason, Tommie, David and Susan; 9 step-grandchildren; sister-in-law Kathy Schauer and her husband; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
His sister Candice preceded him in death.
A celebration of life was held at Myhre’s on Nov. 13, 2003.
Cady, Melvin Friday, 07 Nov 2003
Melvin Stanley Cady, 82, a resident of Olalla, died Nov. 7, 2003.
He was born on Jan. 22, 1921, in Seattle.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1939 and he married
Jane Etta Sink on July 12, 1946.
He enjoyed hiking and gardening and he loved animals.
He is survived by his wife Jane Cady; daughters Elayne Cady, Marsha Croswell and her husband Neville and Colleen Wycoff; sons Nathan Cady and his wife Stacy and Aaron Cady and his wife Cindy; and four granddaughters and one grandson.
Services were held on Nov. 11, 2003, at Haven of Rest Chapel. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Burley Bible Church, PO Box 10, Burley, WA 98332 for the Howes Mission.
