Pettit, Bernice Friday, 20 Dec 2002
Bernice Marie Pettit, 74, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 20, 2002 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1928, in Seattle to Lestor and Winnifred (Modlin) Smith.
She married
Harold R. Pettit in Stanwood, Wash. on Feb. 6, 1960.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, doll making and donating her handy work to charity.
She was also a foster parent to many children for 15 years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Southworth Ward.
She is survived by her husband Harold Pettit; daughters Penny Josephson of Burlington, Wash, Elizabeth Davidson of Port Orchard, Deanna Hoyt of Olalla and Kathleen Duane of Port Orchard; sons Randolph Duane of Seattle, Larry Graff of Templeton, Calif., Derick Pettit of Tacoma and David Pettit of Port Orchard; sister Gloria Blevins of Bass Lake, Calif.; and 36 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren and her many foster children.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Betty Wilson, Geris Mulene, Rosalie Logston and Ila Mae McDaniels.
Visitation services were held Friday, Dec. 27, 2002. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at 1 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Mullenix Road in Port Orchard followed by interment at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Miller, Billy Thursday, 19 Dec 2002
Billy G. Miller, 73, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 19, 2002.
He was born on July 25, 1929 in Harrisburg, Ill. to Edward and Ida Mae (Milli-gan) Miller. He married
Sonja (Chris-tensen) Miller on May 19, 1990.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1948.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and achieved the rank of Lt. Commander.
He retired from the Navy in 1970. He was Officer in Charge, Pacific Fleet Missile Weapons Systems Training Unit in San Diego, Calif.
He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2669. In Port Orchard, member of Eagles Aerie 2338, was an avid poker player and enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
He is survived by his wife Sonja Miller; mother Ida Mae Sewell; daughters Denise Miller of Bonita, Calif., and Deborah Kemp and husband Phillip of Houston, Texas; sons David Miller of Chula Vista, Calif., and step-sons Douglas Nation and wife Lily of Port Orchard and Travis Nation and wife Jennifer also of Port Orchard; brothers Dan Sewell of Platteville, Wis., and Dennis Sewell of Port Orchard; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward Miller, brothers Edgar and Max Miller and his step-father Liewelyn Sewell.
A memorial service was held Dec. 27, 2002, at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard followed by interment at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.

Asbridge, Aimee Sunday, 08 Dec 2002
Aimee Anne Asbridge died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002.
She was born in Kalispell, Mont. on April 1, 1955, and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. She was a graduate of the University of Washington and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1978. She married
Paul A. Kenney in 1980.
She retired from the Air Force in 1999 after more than 20 years of dedicated service to her country.
Her hobbies included cooking and gardening, volunteering at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter and the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
She was also a Master Gardener and worked with the OSU Extension Service. She was recently employed with the Farmers Insurance Group.
She is survived by her husband Paul of Oklahoma City; brothers Carl of San Antonio, Texas, Bob of Vancouver, Wash. and Michael of Snohomish, Wash.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter or the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
Memorial service was at Paylor’s Funeral Home on Dec. 13, 2002. Interment was at Arlington National cemetery, Washington, D.C.
Scherer, George Nixon Friday, 14 Mar 2003
George Nixon Scherer, 96, a resident of Bremerton, died March 14, 2003, in Bremerton.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1906, in Colorado Springs, Colo. to Rudolph and Bertha (Anglicker) Scherer.
He married
Dorothy Bea-trice (Allen) Scherer on March 1, 1930. She preceded him in death in 1992.
He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 28 years, retiring in 1969. He then worked for the South Columbia Basin Irrigation District for five years, retiring in 1974.
He was a longtime member of the Washington State Grange and the Columbia Valley Grange and worked as a consultant for the Summer Falls Hydroelectric Power Plant in 1980. He raised honey bees, cows and grapes.
He was a Presbyterian.
He is survived by his daughters Kim Marcum of Bremerton, Theresa Johnson of Palmer, and Linda Allen of Guelph, Canada; also 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 29 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Lorrie Mattson; sisters Rose, Annie, Bertha, Lena and Julia; and brothers Jim and Bill.
Interment was held at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill chapel.
Memorial donations can be made to the giver’s favorite charity.
Weintraub, Lynn Marie Wednesday, 12 Mar 2003
Lynn Marie Weintraub, 52, a resident of Colockum, Wash., died March 12, 2003.
She was born on April 22, 1950 in San Diego, Calif., to Richard and Allene Mueller.
She his survived by her husband, David Weintraub of Colockum.
She graduated from El Capitan High School in San Diego, Calif., in 1968 and moved to Washington state in the 1970s.
She is survived by her parents; her son Jeremy Weintraub of Port Orchard; her brother Robert Mueller of Westminster, Colo.; and her sisters Susan Lawson of Chino Valley, Ariz. and Carol Brown of Ramona, Calif.
Memorial services were held at King’s Orchard Church of Christ, near Wenatchee.
Arrangements were handled by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee.
Pleskun, Barry Gene Tuesday, 11 Mar 2003
Barry Gene Pleskun, 33, a resident of Port Orchard, died March 11, 2003. He was born in Ventura, Calif. on May 16, 1969 to Edward and Beverly (Webber) Pleskun.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1988. He worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for King County Fire and Rescue for 6 years, and in installation and operational training for commercial pools for 4 years.
He enjoyed camping, hiking, boating, motorcycling and being with friends and family.
He is survived by his mother Beverly Pleskun of Port Orchard; brother Edward Pleskun and his wife Mary of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Casey Pleskun of Port Orchard; grandmother Charlotte Webber; and 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward Pleskun.
A memorial service was held on March 17 at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
Minton, Thora 'Terry' E. Thursday, 06 Mar 2003
Thora “Terry” E. Minton, 73, a resident of Port Orchard, died March 6, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton.
She was born on April 16, 1929, in Blackfoot, Idaho to LaRoy and Audrey (Campbell) Bradley.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald W. Minton of Port Orchard. They married
on Nov. 15, 1980, in Forks.
She was in the evergreens business and worked as a cook for several years.
She enjoyed crafts, collecting dolls and taking care of her family.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She is survived by daughters Mary Diane Grove and her husband William of Indian Head, Md., Michele Jansene Adams of Marysville, and Shaun Ellen Tobert and husband Matthew of Copalis Beach; sons David Roy Schauer and wife Mary of Port Orchard, Jesse Arthur Schauer and wife Eleanor of Port Orchard and Joel Edward Schauer and wife Donna of Wakefield, Neb.; sister Elsie Rae Hansen of Allyn; also 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Gayle Rae Ashe and her sister Verda Kitzmiller.
Funeral services were private.

Frink, Ruth M. Monday, 03 Mar 2003
Ruth M. Frink, 75, a resident of Port Orchard, died March 3, 2003 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
She was born on March 2, 1928 in McKeesport, Pa., to Frank and Mary Miller.
She married
Russell Frink on Sept. 13, 1969, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He preceded her in death in 1984.
She graduated from McKeesport High School in McKeesport, Pa., in 1946 and worked as a secretary for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh for 23 years.
She was involved with Ann Wilson Orthopedic Guild, Sidney Museum and Arts Association.
Internment will be held at Sunset Lane cemetery at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2003.
A memorial will be held at Chico Alliance Church at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2003.
