Hewitt, Douglas Sunday, 20 Mar 2005
Douglas P. Hewitt, of Lynwood, died on March 20, 2005, at Haller Lake Group Home in Seattle. He was 58.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1946, in Carlisle, Pa., to Robert and Arlys (Setran) Hewitt.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1962 and later worked as a Sheltered Work Shop in Seattle.
He was active with Special Olympics and enjoyed playing cards.
He was a former member of Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Hewitt, of Walla Walla; and half-sisters Tracey Hewitt and Holly Hewitt of Walla Walla. He was preceded in death by his sister Renae Doble.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., March 26, at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, with burial to follow at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Cole, Gary Kieth Monday, 14 Mar 2005
Gary Kieth Cole, of Port Orchard, died on March 14, 2005, at home. He was 59.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1945, in Northwood, N.D., to Richard and Doris (Nash) Cole.
He married
Shirley Collins on Dec. 6, 1969, in Port Orchard.
He graduated from high school in Silverdale in 1964.
He served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army and later spent 38 years as a communications specialist at Subase Bangor before retiring in 2002.
He was a member of the Bremerton Eagles No. 192. He enjoyed hunting, camping, bowling and pinochle.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Cole, of Port Orchard; daughters Tonya (and husband Rick) Pettit of Port Orchard and Kasey Cole (and fiancee Elston) of Hope, N.D.; brother Roger (and wife Evelyn) Cole of Seabeck; sisters LaVerne (and husband Charlie) Lucas of Moberly, Mo., and Renee Cole, of Bremerton; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by granddaughter Kayleigh Cooley in 1993.
A memorial service was held on March 26 at Rill Chapel.

Adler, Rose Sunday, 20 Mar 2005
Rose “Connie” Adler, of Yakima, died on March 20, 2005, in Port Orchard.
She was 82.
She was born on April 27, 1922, in Dickinson, N.D., the oldest daughter of Helen (Wolfe) and Florian Zimmerman.
She married
Henry “Ted” Adler on July 25, 1943, in Macon, Georgia.
They were married
60 years before Ted’s death in February 2004.
During the war years, she was a welder in the Portland, Ore., shipyards for Liberty ships. After the war she worked at the Chinook Hotel and the Garden Villa until her retirement in 1977.
In Yakima, she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, and the Century Club.
She enjoyed gardening, golfing, crafts, dancing and cooking.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (and husband Wayne) Macomber, of Port Orchard; son Terry (and wife Cheryl) Adler, of Olathe, Kansas; sisters Barbara Habercorn of Seattle, Betty Zimmerman of Portland, Ore., and Lois Cross of Sun City, Ariz.; brother Joe Zimmerman of Sun City, Ariz.; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Maggie, Ann, Katherine and Paula, and brothers Martin, Paul and George.
Funeral services were held on March 24 in Yakima at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Mehner, Mattie Saturday, 12 Mar 2005
Mattie Dee Mehner, an Olalla resident since 1985, died on March 12, 2005, in Olalla.
She was 84.
She was born in Cherokee County, Texas, on June 14, 1920, to Albert and Lula (Boggs) Lindstrom.
After graduating from Rusk High School in 1938, she worked as a deputy clerk for the Cherokee County Clerk’s office.
She married
Philip Mehner in 1947. In 1948 she was hired by the Harris County Clerk’s office in Houston and worked as a payroll clerk for 35 years.
She was active in the Business and Professional Women’s Club until she retired in 1983.
In 1985 she moved to Washington where she enjoyed cooking, working in her garden and sewing. She was active in the Burley Bible Church Single Sisters group, Ladies’ Missionary Fellowship and Ladies’ Bible Study.
She is survived by brothers Oscar Lindstrom of Whitehouse, Texas, and Ray Lindstrom of Eagle, Idaho; sister Lillie Belle Sparkman of Olalla, Washington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held March 16, 2005 at Fraola cemetery in Olalla.

Thomas, James Thursday, 16 Mar 2006
James Thomas Abrahamson, of Port Orchard, died on March 16, 2006, at home.
He was 86.
He was born on Jan. 30, 1920, in Seattle, to George and Lucille (Hazen) Abrahamson.
He married
Elizabeth J. Thaxton in Port Orchard on June 19, 1943.
He graduated from Sedro Woolley High School and served in the U.S. Navy, for whom he was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He was later a boat builder for 25 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed woodworking and playing guitar for the dance band “The Country DJs.”
He is survived by wife Elizabeth Abrahamson, of Port Orchard; son Jim Abrahamson of Camano Island; sister Daryle Hilldebrand of Mount Vernon; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brother Jack Abrahamson and sister Agnes Hamill.
A graveside cemetery was held on March 21 at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Baumann, Paul Tuesday, 14 Mar 2006
Paul B. Baumann, of Poulsbo, died on March 14, 2006, in Bremerton. He was 85.
He was born on December 28, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He married
Ruth Holtz-Baumann in 2004.
He served for 21 years in the U.S. Navy, as a Navy SEAL and as a pipefitter.
He later worked as a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement.
He was a Mason, a Shriner and was active in the 4-H Club.
He is survived by sons Paul Baumann of Oregon and Ken Baumann of Alaska; daughters Grace Hall of Nevada and Meldyne Brennan of Alaska; step-daughters Thelma Bickell of New York, and Mary James and Bobbi Strom, both of Washington; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on March 18 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, followed by burial at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.

Schell, Lawrence Saturday, 11 Mar 2006
Lawrence George Schell, of Gig Harbor, died at home on March 11, 2006. He was 88.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1917, in Chicago to George and Ella (Toenjes) Schell.
He graduated from Lakeview High School in Chicago in 1936.
He attended Curtis Wright Aeronautical School before moving to San Diego, Calif., in 1941, where he was employed by Convair.
He married
May Dean Duncan on June 10, 1945, in San Diego, where they lived until moving to Gig Harbor in 2003.
He was a member of the Mission Valley Church of the Nazarene in San Diego and since moving to Gig Harbor attended Grace Bible Church in Port Orchard.
He is survived by his wife May Dean, of Gig Harbor; daughter Stephanie (and husband Jim) Fargo of Port Orchard; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dora Toumi.
Funeral Services were held at Grace Bible Church in Port Orchard on March 16.
Hosler, Frederick Friday, 24 Feb 2006
Frederick B. Hosler died on Feb. 24, 2006, at the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil.
He was 82.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1924. in Flint, Mich.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a B-24 tail gunner in the Japanese theater of operations.
After the war, he became a salesman and was one for life. Over a 50-year career, he sold everything from fallout shelters to water softeners to heating systems to life insurance.
He enjoyed politics, bowling and baseball.
He is survived by his ex-wife Louise of San Diego, Calif., to whom he was married
for 29 years; sons John Hosler of Charlotte, N.C., David Hosler of Palm City, Fla., and Tom Hosler, of Seattle; sister Ann of Kalamazoo, Mich.; brother Bob Hosler, Thomasville, N.C., and three grandchildren.
