Quam, Ruth Thursday, 04 Nov 2004
Ruth Marie Quam, of Manchester, died on Nov. 4, 2004. She was 87.
She was born in Nebraska, raised on a Nebraska farm and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University.
She worked for the Battelle Institute in Columbus, Ohio, until he retirement in 1974.
She enjoyed the outdoors and, while living in Ohio, was a leader of the Buckeye Trails Association, which promoted and developed a statewide hiking trail network.
She and her husband were also active in the American Youth Hostel chapter in Columbus, Ohio, and during her retirement, was a member of the Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy. The enjoyed Elder Hostel educational events, including trips to Alaska, and archeological digs in the southwest U.S.
She is survived by her husband, Norris Quam, of Manchester; sister Hazel Arthur; daughter Rachel Garland; sons Michael Quam and Richard Quam; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 14 at the Colby United Methodist Church.

Bruckart, John Wednesday, 10 Nov 2004
John R. Bruckart, of Port Orchard, died on Nov. 10, 2004, at home.
He was 88.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1915, in Darrington, to John and Fay (Batdorf) Bruckart.
He married
Marian Kinsman in 1941. She preceded him in death in 1967.
He was re-married
to Gerry (Howe) Sprague in April 1968 in Port Orchard.
He attended high school in Olympia and Vancouver, Wash., and graduated from the University of Washington in 1937 with a degree in forestry.
He spent 42 years as co-owner of Taylor and Bruckart, Inc., a logging and log sales company in western Washington and British Columbia. He was also co-owner of Jim Creek Tree Farm, a managed forest near Arlington, until he sold his interest to his son, Steve Sprague.
He was member of the Society of American Foresters, Chi Psi, the Colege Club of Seattle, the Port Orchard Yacht Club, the U of W Tyee Club, the Kitsap Band Board, the Olympic College Board of Trustees, and he was active in the Kitsap County Republican Party and the Kiwanis Club of Port Orchard.
He is survived by his wife Gerry Bruckart, of Port Orchard; sons Stephen Sprague of Arlington, and William (and wife Betty Jeanne) Sprague of Belfair; daughter Susan (and husband J. Brook) Hamilton III of Lafayette, La.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters Virginia Pagter and Edith Elliott.
Memorial service plans are pending, followed by inurnment at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
Griffith, Patricia Saturday, 06 Nov 2004
Patricia Griffith, of Port Orchard, died on Nov. 6, 2004, in Kent. She was 73.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1931, in Lawrence, Neb.
She worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until her retirement in 1993.
She is survived by daughters Margaret Walsh of Port Orchard, Linda Pittman of Kent, Diane Pechia of Port Orchard and Barbara Martin of Richton Park, Ill.; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
No funeral services are planned.
Davis, Delores Monday, 04 Apr 2005
Delores L. “Johnnie” Davis, a 25-year resident of East Wenatchee, died on April 4, 2005, at her home.
She was 78.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1927, in Maynard, Minn., to William F. and Claire (Worken) Johnston.
She grew up in Montevideo, Minn., and in 1938 the family moved to LaCenter, where she completed her education, graduating in 1944 from LaCenter High School.
She attended Washington State College, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1948. She then taught business education and drama at Dryden High School.
On July 1, 1950, she married
William E. Davis in LaCenter.
Together with her husband she taught in the Kalama School District, Brewster School District and the Boistfort School District. They moved to Langley and in 1965 to Port Orchard.
In 1976 they moved to Spokane and in 1977 to Tenino and in 1980 to East Wenatchee.
She is survived by son William E. Davis, Jr., of East Wenatchee; daughter Denise (and husband Alan) Besel of Vancouver, Wash.; adopted son Kenneth Arnold of East Wenatchee; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Davis in 1996, and brothers, Hans Johnston in 1996 and Merle “Bud” Johnston in 1979.
A funeral service was held on April 9 in the Ward’s Funeral Chapel followed by interment in the Cashmere City cemetery.

Rylander, Gerald Monday, 04 Apr 2005
Gerald C.M. Rylander, of Grants Pass, Ore., died on March 4, 2005, at home.
He was 84.
He was born on Nov. 27, 1920, in Havre, Mont., and moved to Port Orchard in 1923.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and participated in seven invasions.
He married
Erma Uhr on Dec. 3, 1946. They moved to Grants Pass in 1965.
He was a member of the Savage Street Church of Christ.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Rylander of Grants Pass; daughters Margit Truman of Belfair, Karen Calvert and Robyn Armijo, both of Grants Pass; brothers Richard Rylander of Port Orchard and Robert Rylander of Ridgefield; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services were held.
Lund, Ollie Thursday, 31 Mar 2005
Ollie P. Lund, of Hoodsport, died on March 31, 2005, in Port Orchard.
He was 81.
He was born on April 18, 1923, in Souix Fall, S.D., to Thorsten and Mildred (Ramsey) Lund.
He married
Louise Christensen on Oct. 10, 1943, in Seabold.
He worked for the Kitsap Road Department for 25 years before his retirement in 1981.
He was a Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Bainbridge Island Saddle Club.
He is survived by son Jay Jon Lund, daughter Jill (and husband Robert) Bystrom; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Lund.
At the family’s request, there will be no services.
Koch-Brigham, Justin Wednesday, 30 Mar 2005
Justin Ross Koch-Brigham, of Port Orchard, dies on March 30, 2005, at Harborview Medical Center.
He was 19.
He was born on May 14, 1989, in Bremerton to Kimberly Koch and Larry Brigham Jr.
He attended South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard. He enjoyed crabbing and barbecuing.
He is survived by his mother, Kimberly Koch, and step-father Kenneth Relaford, of Port Orchard; brother Jacob Koch-Brigham; sister Jessica Koch-Brigham; and grandparents James (and wife Nancy) Koch of Shoreline, Kathryn Koch of Port Orchard, Larry Brigham Sr. of Endicott, Katherine Thompson of Seattle and Laura Relaford of Omak.
He was preceded in death by his father Larry Brigham Jr.
A memorial service will be held at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard at 11 a.m. on April 9. A reception and benefit dinner will be held at H.D.’s Pub in Belfair on State Route 3 in Belfair from noon to 7 on April 9.

Bessie Laxson, of Manchester
Bessie Laxson, of Manchester, died on April 5, 2005. She was 90.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1914, in Bureno, N.M.
She is survived by daughters Hazel Nowlin, of Juneau, Alaska, and Marguerite (and husband Murray) Durham of SeaTac; brother Walter Sykes; sister Maxine Cunningham; and six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on April 9 at Chelsea Park Assembly in Burien. Graveside services will be held on April 11 at 11 a.m. at Haven of Rest cemetery in Gig Harbor, with a viewing beginning at 9 a.m.
Moen, Stanley Thursday, 17 Mar 2005
Stanley L. Moen, of Port Orchard, died on March 17, 2005, at home.
He was 78.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1926, in Lignite, N.D., to John A. and Thea (Solseth) Moen.
He married
Ardell Gifford in Nov. 17, 1956, in Port Orchard.
He attended high school in Port Orchard and served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He worked for 27 years with the Kitsap County Road District as a road foreman.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW and the American Legion.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Ardell Moen, of Port Orchard; daughters Marilyn (and husband Dr. Harry) Jerue, of Hood Canal, and Carylyn Sarne of Poway, Calif.; sister Eunice Larson of Port Orchard; and 11 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Thoralf, Irvin, Arnold, Donald and Norman Moen and sisters Luella Ives, Mildred Alderman and Lorraine Gertz.
A memorial service and burial were held at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
