Parker, Violet Saturday, 25 Dec 2004
Violet M. Parker, 76, a Port Orchard resident, died Dec. 25, 2003, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
She was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minn. to Charles and Amanda (Day) Sheppler.
She married
Donald R. Parker on April 8, 1969, in Oakland, Calif.
She graduated from Vancouver High School in Vancouver in 1944. She worked as an accountant with the Navy Exchange in Auburn for 25 years.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her husband, her son John Swolgaard and his wife Susan of Bainbridge Island; her daughters Joann Judd and her husband David of San Jose, Calif. and Mary Lemmon of Bloomfield, Calif.; her brothers Floyd Sheppler of Battleground and Richard Sheppler of Vancouver; her sister Beverly Haley of Lyons, Colo.; also 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Leon Sheppler.
The viewing took place yesterday at the Port Orchard LDS Church, followed immediately by the funeral service. Interment will be held at noon today at Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery in Vancouver.

Ross, Fred Friday, 24 Dec 2004
Fred Rockwell Ross, 63, a resident of Gilberton, died Dec. 24, 2003.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., to Cpt. Donald K. and Helen Lou Ross.
He was an instructor for new supervisors and was a home port manager for Naval Station Bremer-ton.
He was a Commodore of Brownsville Yacht Club, director and secretary of the Silverdale chapter of the Harley Owners’ Group and was a Boy Scout troop leader.
He enjoyed designing and building a Harley from scratch. He was also involved with fundraising efforts for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Ross of Port Orchard; brother Robert Allen Ross, also of Port Orchard; sisters Donna Branch-Gilby of Tuscon, Ariz., and Penny Lou Hoffman of Vancouver; nieces Dr. Michelle Williams, M.D. of Tuscon and Rebecca Waddell of Vancouver; nephew Toby Branch of Denver, Colo.; fiancee Jeanette McClister and her children Aaron and Anna and her stepfather John D. Griffith.
A celebration of life will be observed at Kitsap Golf and Country Club on Kitsap Way, Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Richard Martin Record, 80, a resident of Gig Harbor, died Dec. 23, 2003, at Ridgemont Terrace.
He was born on March 12, 1923, in Stromsberg, Neb.
He served in the Navy from 1941 to 1946.
He worked over 40 years in Seattle as a photolithographer.
He is survived by his wife Anna (Wilson) Record of Gig Harbor; daughter Jane Moreland of Gig Harbor; brothers Jerry, Tom and Jack Record; sister Floretta Sullwold; and grandchildren Lisa Bundrick and Ian Beatty and great-grandchildren Cassandra Bund-rick and Christian Beatty.
He was preceded in death by Darrell Record.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2004, at The Lakes at Gig Harbor, 4416 146th St. NW.

Danel, Harold Tuesday, 10 Feb 2004
Harold Francis Danel, 78, a Port Orchard resident, died Feb. 10, 2004, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1925, in Bremerton to Ralph and Elva (Templeton) Danel.
He married
Hazel Jay (Vant) Danel in Bremerton on Dec. 6, 1947.
He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1943 to 1946.
He worked at Darigold Dairy for 30 years before retirement.
He was a member of the Port Orchard Yacht Club, St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Mannette Pioneers and was a usher at St. Gabriels.
He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Jay Danel of Port Orchard; daughters Kathleen and husband William Duffy of Bremerton and Marsha and husband Steve Pfeiffer of Chula Vista, Calif.; sister Ruth (Danel) Blasheng; and grandchildren Elizabeth Nieva, Skye Neill, Sarah Binns, Rebecca Duffy, Melissa Neill and Benjamin Pfeiffer; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Al Holmes.
Visitation, funeral and mass were held at St. Gabriels Roman Catholic Church on Feb. 13, 2004, followed by burial at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Cen-ter.

Harkum, Frank Sunday, 08 Feb 2004
Frank J. Harkcom, 62, a resident of Port Orchard, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma
He was born on May 21, 1941 in Longview to Lawrence and Helena Harkcom.
He lived in the South Kitsap and Gig Harbor area from the 1950s, attending the Peninsula District Schools. He joined the U.S. Navy in August 1959.
He worked as brush picker, machinist, mechanic, and yard foreman for Pan Alaska Fisheries.
He owned and operated Frank’s 4-by-4 Shop in Gig Harbor.
After retiring he worked on his passion and hobby of rebuilding Jeeps with special interest in old military vehicles, restoring antique tractors and engines.
He was an avid collector of old spark plugs and models. He loved to go four-wheeling, hunting and fishing; and he had a great love of the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of the family home in Port Orchard; daughter Cindy Bowers of Archbold, Ohio; son John Weber of Port Orchard; sisters Lola Crichfield of Lakebay, and Molly Whipkey of Buckley; brother James Harkcom of Sequim, four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His son Jens preceded him in death.
A celebration of life service was held on Feb.17 at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
Larson, Janice Sunday, 21 Mar 2004
Janice L. Larson, 51, a resident of Bremerton, died March 21, 2004.
She was born on April 29, 1952, in Walla Walla to William E. and Frances (Allard) Ruther.
She married
Kenneth Larson on Feb. 26, 1983, in Walla Walla.
She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1970. She worked as a medical clinic office manager for 10 years.
She was a member of the Bremerton Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Larson of Bremerton; sons Steven Larson and Erik Larson of Bremerton; daughter Michelle F. Larson of Bremerton; and brother William E. Ruther III.
She was preceded in death by her son Matthew G. Larson.
Services were held on March 26 at the Bremerton Church of the Nazarene.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Williams, Shirley Thursday, 18 Mar 2004
Shirley “Willie” C. Williams, 77, a resident of Port Orchard, died March 18, 2004.
He was born on March 26, 1926, in Burlington, N.D., to Richard Dee and Eva (Gordon) Williams.
He married
Jennie “Penny” (Gandolfo) Williams on April 11, 1948 in New Orleans, La. She preceded him in death in 2002.
He attended Des Lacs High School in Des Lacs, N.D. and received his GED.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years achieving the rank of First Class Ships Serviceman. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He loved Packards, attending auctions and yard sales, collected antiques, victrolas and dolls, and was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve Association and a past member of the VFW.
He enjoyed country western music and Lawrence Welk.
He is survived by his sons Rich and wife Sharon Williams of Port Orchard, Paul C. Williams of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Pete Williams and wife Laurie Williams of Port Orchard; brother Alton Williams of Hall, Mont.; sister Bonnie Jo Hennes of Missoula, Mont.; and grandchildren Benjamin, Shellee, Jason, Dustin, Bridgette, Jeff, Deanndra and Aaron and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on March 26 at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center and inurnment was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Romano, Jack Wednesday, 17 Mar 2004
Jack John Romano, 51, a resident of Port Orchard, died March 17, 2004.
He was born on July 30, 1952, in Jamaica, N.Y.
He married
Inok (Lee) Ro-mano on Sept. 2, 1983, in Seoul, Korea.
He graduated from Apple Valley Senior High School in Apple Valley, Calif., in 1970.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1993, achieving the rank of senior chief petty officer. He earned the Southwest Asia Services Medal with Bronze Star and five Good Conduct Awards.
He was a Mech Warrior and Male Knight. He enjoyed bowling, gold panning, treasure hunting and family and friends.
He was a member of the Sons of Italy, Lions Club and Fleet Reserve.
He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife Inok Romano of Port Orchard; mother Josephine Bauer of Anderson, Calif.; daughter Jina “P.J.” Lee Romano of Port Orchard; sisters Pauline Hughes of Hesperia, Calif., Eva Taylor and Donna Jo Peckham both of Cottonwood, Calif.; and Uncle Larry Coccomo.
Visitation and funeral were held on March 24, at Rill Chapel. Burial was at sea by the U.S. Navy.
