Fern D. Davis, 94, a resident of Port Orchard, died on Dec. 8, 2003, at an adult care home.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1909, in Gideon, Mo., to Alonzo and Iva Day (Hicks) Gossage.
She was a secretary at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and worked at the Family Airport in Port Orchard.
She is survived by her step-son Don Davis of Seattle and her niece Rene Ahrens of Seattle.
King, Lawrence Monday, 08 Dec 2003
Lawrence Junior King, 62, a resident of Sandpoint, Idaho, died Dec. 8, 2003, in Seattle.
He was born on July 10, 1941, in Sandpoint to Lawrence W. and Myrle Virginia (Millin) King.
He married
Freda M. (French) King in Bremerton. He received his GED from South Kitsap High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 as an E-5.
He was an entrepreneur and owned several automotive-related businesses, a logging company and a towing company.
He enjoyed cabling and cars.
He is survived by his wife Freda King of Sandpoint, Idaho; mother Virginia King of Bremerton; sons Scott King of Texas and Michael and wife Bianna White of Cammeron Park, Calif.; daughters Amber King of Santa Maria, Calif., Alice King also of Santa Maria, Jera and husband James Wodehouse of Alameda, Calif., Kristie Brouhard of Post Falls, Idaho, Brandi Huft also of Post Falls, and Kristi and husband Joe Hollis of Alameda, Calif.; brothers Richard and wife Connie King of Port Orchard, Thomas and wife Lynda King of Arnold, Calif. and Paul and wife Pamela King of Bremerton; sister Alma Singleton of Bremerton; and 13 grandchildren.
Visitation was held at Rill Chapel on Dec. 12. Funeral service will be held at Rill Chapel today (Dec. 13), at 10 a.m.

Mares, Albert Monday, 08 Dec 2003
Albert J. Mares, 66, a resident of Port Orchard, died on Dec. 8, 2003 at Harrison Hospital.
He was born on May 12, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Albert J. and Edna L. Mares. He married
Lavena M. Mares on Aug. 17, 1960, in San Angelo, Texas.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1955 and from Olympic College in 1972.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He worked with the Port Orchard Police Depart-ment for 17 years and retired in 1981 as police chief.
He is survived by his wife Lavena Mares of Port Orchard; son Charles M. Mares and wife Jan of Port Orchard; daughter Adonna M. Swart and husband Roger of West Salem; brother James A. Mares and wife Yvonne of Wenatchee; sisters Patricia Jones and husband Don of Seattle, Janet Webster of Mount Vernon and Judy Swain of Sumner; grandchildren Trevor, Tana and Tyler Swart, Jessica and Danya Mares, Riley Moran, Craig Shawon Hoskins; and great-grandchild Sean Swart.
Visitation was held at Rill Chapel on Dec. 12. A memorial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. at Rill Chapel.

Sabo, Archie Saturday, 06 Dec 2003
Archie J. Sabo, 66, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 6, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1937, in Minot, N.D., to Ingvald and Hazel (White) Sabo.
He worked as a brush picker, cement finisher and logger. He had also been employed with Boeing in Renton and at Subase Bangor.
He is survived by his son John Denning Sabo of Oklahoma; daughters Jo Ellen Sabo, Dianna Sabo, Bonnie Sabo and Sherri Sabo all of Oklahoma and Aleesha Ehrhardt of Ellensburg; step brothers Robert Shattun of Port Orchard and LeRoy Shattum of Bremerton; sisters Marjorie and husband Tom Endsley of Port Orchard and Donna and husband Gene Entz of Newton, Kan.; step sisters Dorothy and husband Joe Heille of Minn. and Marion Leigh Minot of N.D.; and numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Viewing will be at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Graveside service will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m.
Wigington, Florence Saturday, 06 Dec 2003
Florence E. Wigington, 90, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 6, 2003, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born on May 19, 1913, in Platte, S.D., to Henry and Gertrude (Gukeisen) Martens.
Her first husband, Dewey Berscheid, preceded her in death in 1963 and her second husband, Gerald Wigington, preceded her in death in 1990.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening around Ridgemont Terrace.
She is survived by her sons Dewey Berscheid of St. Paul, Minn., and George Berscheid of Sun City West, Ariz.; brothers Les Martens of Soap Lake; sisters Ava Vaughan of Port Orchard and Henrietta Olesen of Vancouver, Wash.; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial was held at Ridgemont Terrace Apartment complex on Friday, Dec. 12.
Inurnment was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Bailey, Richard Friday, 31 Dec 2004
Richard A. Bailey, 63, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 31, 2003, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1940, in Dark Rapids, Minn., to Manford and Edith Bailey.
He married
Shirley (Irvine) Bailey on March 3, 1962, in Port Orchard.
He attended South Kitsap High School in 1958. He worked at a pipefitter at PSNS for 28 years. He retired in 1993.
He restored John Deere tractors, enjoyed watching college football and was a big Husky fan. He enjoyed driving cars for Grey Chevrolet and he loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Bailey of Port Orchard; son Dan Bailey of Bremerton; daughter Megan Carr and husband Bryon of Chandler, Ariz.; sisters Blanche Guerin of S. Whitley, Ind., Jean Eischens and husband Buster of Tacoma, and Delores Anderson and husband Don of Federal Way.
He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Bailey.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 7, 2004, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Holmquist, Zelma Wednesday, 29 Dec 2004
Zelma Grace Lillian Holmquist, 86, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 29 at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born June 28, 1917, in Castlerock to Fremont and Alice May (Groat) Derrick.
She graduated from high school in Castlerock and later worked as a nurse’s aide for 12 years. She also worked as a retail clerk in Payless Drug Store for three years. She enjoyed gardening and birdwatching.
She is survived by son Melvin Wall of Port Orchard; daughter Darlene Brown of Port Orchard; sister Marjorie Larson of Orting; grandchildren Mark Butler, Dorene Langhorn, Sherry Hopkins, Paul Overton and Tanya Wall; great-grandchildren Brandi, Tiffany, Mitchell, Mariah and Savannah Butler, Sheryl Hopkins and Michael and Matthew Hopkins-Bauer; also three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her son Wayne Price.

Eckstrom, Russell Monday, 27 Dec 2004
Russell E. Eckstrom, 83, a resident of Manchester, died Dec. 27, 2003, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1920, in Redwing, Minn., to Edwin and Lillian (Pince) Eckstrom.
He married
Marian L. (Eli) Eckstrom on June 12, 1943, in Fayetteville, N.C.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1941 to 1945, earning a Bronze Star and Liberty of Freedom award.
He worked as a machinist at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Keyport for 23 years.
He retired in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Marian Eckstrom, of Manchester; sons Warren Eckstrom of Lynn-wood, Donald Eckstrom of Shoreline and Russell Eckstrom of Olympia; daughters Louise Henslee of Port Orchard, Mary Marten, also of Port Orchard, Theresa Harty of Vancouver and Cathy George of Puyallup; brothers John Eckstrom of Bremerton, Jim Eckstrom of Seattle and Norm Eckstrom of Poulsbo; sister Geraldine Jones of Minneapolis, Minn.; and 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ray Eckstrom, sister Agnes Kosel and granddaughter J.P. Eckstrom.
Rosary was held at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Bremerton on Jan. 2, 2004, followed by a funeral and Mass. Inurnment was at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Foster, Irene Monday, 27 Dec 2004
Irene Foster, 90, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 27, 2003.
She was born on Aug. 31, 1913, in Bonita, Texas, to Cager and Carrie (Admire) Smith. She married
Benjamin Foster on July 25, 1935, in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1961.
She graduated from Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Texas, in 1930.
She worked as a medical librarian for 25 years, retiring in 1974.
She is survived by her sons Keith Foster of Eudora, Kan., and David Foster of Port Orchard; brothers J.C. Smith of Searcy, Ark. and Billy Smith of Campbellsville, Ky.; sister June Slaughter of Meridian, Idaho; and grandchildren Charles Foster, Kenneth Foster, Anthony Foster, Kara Heilman, Suzanne Foster and Kathleen Brown and great-grandchildren Heather and Adam Foster, Jeremiah Foster, Brionne Foster, Alex and Madeleine Brown and Colin Heilman.
She was preceded in death by Leola Rials, Alice Bremer Norman Smith and Bob Smith.
Visitation was held on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 30 and 31, 2003, at Rill Chapel. Funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Rill Chapel. Inurnment was at Green Hills Memorial park in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Terry, Donald Monday, 27 Dec 2004
Donald Lee Terry, 60, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 27 at home.
He was born Sept. 10, 1943, in Augusta County, Va. to Thomas and Elizabeth (Brockway) Terry.
He worked as PSNS for many years and then later worked at North Mason High School following his retirement.
He was very active in the Shriners, the Q Club, Blue Lodge, Legion of Honor, Eagles and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife Carol; his son David of Bremerton; his brother Ronald Terry and his wife Becky; his sisters Susan Sheffer and her husband George, Lorraine Glenn and her husband Sam and Margarette Breeden and her husband Roger — all of Va.; his sister-in-law Sheri Anderson and her husband Doug; his brother-in-law Russ Harlan and his wife Terry; also numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harold Terry.
Visitation was held on Dec. 30 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. The funeral was held on Dec. 31 at Miller-Woodlawn, followed by a reception at the Port Orchard Eagles Hall.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Foundation or the Shriners’ Hospital.
