Osborne, Debra Monday, 23 Jun 2003
Debra “Debbie” J. Osborne, 48, a resident of Port Orchard, died June 23, 2003.
She was born in Phoenix, Ariz. on Feb. 15, 1955, to Joe and Charlene (McClintock) Lindsey. She married
Brian L. Osborne on Sept. 25, 1975, in Phoenix.
She graduated from Carl Hayden High School in Phoenix in 1974. She worked as a tax preparer for H&R; Block in Virginia, California and Washington for 10 years.
She painted ceramics, loved country western music, enjoyed being with her family and enjoyed her church fellowship.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her husband Brian L. Osborne of Port Orchard; sister Kathy Jones of Port Orchard; nieces Heather Jones of Phoenix, Adrianne Geissler of Las Vegas, Nev.; nephew Bill Jones of Bremerton; and great-nieces Amanda and Becca.
A graveside service was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park. Arrangements were made by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Jorstad, Edwin Friday, 20 Jun 2003
Edwin Jorstad, 84, died June 20, 2003, in Port Orchard.
He was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Granite Falls to Hans Jorstad (from Norway) and Elina Louisa (from Finland).
His early years were spent working on the family farm. He was an accomplished athlete, lettering in almost every sport in high school.
In November 1937, he secretly married
Ingrid Johnson; they kept their marriage secret until Ed graduated from high school in June of 1938. He then studied for the ministry at Northwest Bible Institute and upon graduation became the first pastor of a small church, Northeast Chapel (now Faith Temple) in Seattle.
The Jorstads had three children, Stan, Carol and Nancie. After Ingrid’s death in 1948, Ed married
Dorothy Sonnichsen, the secretary at the Bible school, traveled as an evangelist for a few months and then moved to Montana where he pastored the Assembly of God Church in Helena. Nine years later, the Jorstads returned to Washington, where Ed was the pastor of the Port Orchard Assembly of God Church (now known as Christian Life Center), until he retired from the ministry in 1971.
He then turned his hobby of watch making and jewelry repair into a full-time business. He owned and operated Jorstad’s Jewelry store in Port Orchard for several years.
Jorstad had five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his wife Dorothy, who died in 2002.
He enjoyed studying and teaching the Bible. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking and photography.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28th at 1 p.m. at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
Stanton, Evelyn Monday, 16 Jun 2003
Evelyn D. Stanton, 93, a resident of Port Orchard, died June 16, 2003.
She was born in Muskegon, Mich. on May 4, 1910 to Burt and Isabelle (Adams) Stothard. Her husband Joseph S. Stanton preceded her in death in 1952.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening.
She is survived by her sons William Stanton of Port Orchard, Joseph Stanton of Ohio, James Stanton of Florida and Arthur Stanton of Michigan; daughter Mary Van Sumerom of Michigan; brother Albert Stothard of Michigan; sister Harriet Grappin of Michigan; and 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy Stanton.
Visitation was held June 19, 2003 at Rill Chapel followed by a funeral service at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
McClure, J. Pauline Sunday, 15 Jun 2003
J. Pauline McClure, 87, a resident of Port Orchard, died June 15, 2003, at Ridgemont Terrace Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Dexter, Kan. to Edward and Leona (O’Neil) Moyer.
She married
Karl E. McClure. He preceded her in death in 1963.
She was a waitress and a homemaker, working at the Beverly Hills Hotel and at Harvey Girl in Barstow, Calif. She enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by her son Keith Deuchrass of Allyn and her sister Margorie Yaeger of West Seattle.
There will be no services. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Spatz, Anita Sunday, 15 Jun 2003
Anita Ruth (Hicks) Spatz, 51, a resident of Port Orchard, died June 15, 2003 in Bremerton.
She was born on July 8, 1952, in Bremerton to Clifford and Theresa (Jones) Hicks.
She has been divorced from her husband, Eddie Lee Spatz, for 30 years.
She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1971 and attended Olympic College in Bremerton. She was a homemaker and operated a daycare for 15 years.
She loved crocheting, camping, cooking and kids. She was baptized as a Catholic.
She is survived by her companion Don Pariseau; parents Clifford and Theresa Hicks; daughter Angie Hicks-Rench and her husband Jason of Port Orchard; brother Jim Hicks of Port Orchard; sisters Karen Wright of Silverdale, Julie Tolin and her husband Tim of Long Beach, Calif. and Debbie Kenfield and her husband paul of Port Orchard; and granddaughter Kylina Rench of Port Orchard.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 21, 2003, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Dirks, Vernie Saturday, 14 Jun 2003
Vernie Ann Dirks, 60, a resident of Port Orchard, died June 14, 2003.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1943 in Pasco to Harold and Ruth Cunningham.
She married
Gary Dirks on Aug. 12, 1967 in Pasco.
She graduated from Northwest Christian college in Eugene, Ore., and taught in the midwest, Portland and Spokane. She taught elementary school at Frank Givens and Sidney Glen.
She loved riding horses and riding in local parades and participated in the “EquiStar ‘88, an equestrian horse exposition at the Kingdome. She raised many horses at her home and enjoyed her grandchildren, students, family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Gary Dirks of Port Orchard; sons Ed Dirks of Seattle and Ken Dirks and his wife Kim and two grandchildren, Noah Daniel and Emma Clare Dirks, all of Washington, D.C.; and sister Marilynn Baker and her husband David of Pasco.
She was preceded in death by her father Harold Cunningham, her mother Ruth L. Cunningham Rindt, her brother Edwin Mason Cunningham, her step-father Beauford Franklin Rindt and her adopted dad Bill T. Nance.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at the Port Orchard United Methodist church, 725 Kitsap Street. Gazebo Florist is coordinating floral gifts at (360) 876-1921.

Serena, Bonnie Wednesday, 11 Jun 2003
Bonnie Lenora Serena, 75, resident of Bremerton, died June 11, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Nampa, Idaho to Thomas and Nora (Davis) Wood. She is survived by her husband, Laurence D. Serena. They married
on April 18, 1953, in Middleton, Idaho.
She was a homemaker and a member of several clubs, including Modern Woodman of America, the Silverdale VFW Auxiliary and the PTA. She served as president of the VFW Auxiliary, the VFW department Naval Hospital chairman and as a Camp Fire leader. She enjoyed gardening and fishing and taught ceramics.
She was a Christian.
She is survived by her son Gary Serena and his wife Shannon of Payette, Idaho; her daughters Bonnie and her husband Cordell of Silverdale, Karen Potts and her husband Frank of Port Orchard, Nona Gallegos of Boise, Idaho and Linda Erickson of Boise, Idaho; her brothers Charles Wood and his wife Ethel of Nampa, Idaho, Wayne Wood and his wife Lucy of Nampa, Idaho, Ed Wood and his wife Sharon of Meridian, Idaho, Gary Wood and his wife DeAnn of Weston, Ore., Ron Wood and his wife Julie of Hoquiam and Harry Wood and his wife Dawn of Meridian, Idaho; her sisters Verda Allen of Nampa, Idaho and Evelyn Lane of Priceboro, Ore.; her sister-in-law Lila Wood of Boise, Idaho; also 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Grimes; her daughter Shirley Ann Erickson; her sister Edith Carter; and her brothers Lloyd “Buck” Wood and Rollie Wood.
The funeral was held Monday at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center, with a graveside service at Vaughn cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Robinson, Beryl Tuesday, 10 Jun 2003
Beryl Robinson, 88, a resident of Bainbridge Island, died, June 10, 2003 at Willow Creek Adult Family Home in Port Orchard.
She was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Seattle to Frank and Mae Ewald.
She married
Harmon T. Robinson on Feb. 11, 1939, in Seattle.
He preceded her in death in 1987.
She graduated from Broadway High School in Seattle and Seattle Pacific University.
She taught grade school near Chehalis.
She enjoyed swimming, reading, gardening, bowling and the Mariner games.
Survivors include daughters Jean Maddox and her husband Clark of Port Orchard, Sue Gordon and her husband Larry of Belfair and Joann Brownlow of Bainbridge Island; sister Betty Jellicoe of Bainbridge Island; foster sister Jean Grimaud of Port Orchard; and five grandchildren: Michele Maddox, Melinda Maddox, Steven Gordon, Scott Gordon and Greg Brownlow; and four great-grandchildren: Conner, Jack, Cole and Tyree.
There will be no services per her request.

Newman, Paul A. Monday, 09 Jun 2003
Paul A. Newman, 70, formerly of Randolph, Maine, and most recently of Topsham, Maine, died Monday, June 9, 2003 at the Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath, Maine.
He was born in Bremerton on June 13, 1932, to Paul M. and Marion E. (Whitmore) Newman.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School and received a B.A. in education from Western Washington University and a B.S. in business administration from the University of Maine, Augusta.
He retired from the Navy as a senior chief petty officer in 1976 after serving 21 years as a meteorologist. He was also employed by the State of Maine Department of Labor as a Research Analyst for 16 years until his retirement in 1994.
He enjoyed following the stock market spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Patricia Rothenberg.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia (Buker) Newman of Topsham, Maine; daughter Deidra A. and James Biele of Randolph, Maine; stepsons John and Dotty Smiley of Dresden and Thomas and Louise Smiley of Augusta, Maine; and five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A committal service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2003, in the chapel at the New Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, Maine
