James A. Dill

Jan. 28, 1920 -- Nov. 17, 2003

Port Townsend resident James A. Dill, 83, died in Jefferson General Hospital of complications from cardiac disease.

He was born in Curtis, Neb., to Alfred Clifford and Augusta Hyatt (Ridgeway) Dill.

He served in the Pacific with the Army during World War II.

He married Dorothy Lucille Thomas in 1958.

Mr. Dill worked as a carpenter and cabinetmaker in Port Townsend.

He enjoyed travel, animals and the outdoors. He was a member of AA.

Mr. Dill is survived by son Donald J. Dill of Monroe; daughters Barbara L. Palmer of Seattle and Darcy D. Dill of Port Townsend; and one grandchild.

Services: To be announced. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Bryan Louthan

Aug. 15, 1917 -- Nov. 20, 2003

Edward Bryan Louthan died in his Sequim home at age 86.

He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Edward Harry and Grace Oreta (Mead) Louthan.

He served 30 years in the Army Air Corps and Navy, from 1937 to 1967, and moved from San Diego to Sequim in 1974.

For 64 years, Mr. Louthan was active with Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Fleet Reserve and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sequim.

He married Arvilla Maud Dudley, who preceded in death.

Mr. Louthan married Grace Harris in Sequim on Sept. 25, 1993.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Louthan's survivors include son James E. Louthan of Woodinville; stepsons Vernon Harris of Port Orange, Fla., Norman C. Harris of Yutan, Neb., and Brian W. Harris of Newcastle, Colo.; daughters Martha Joyce Maxwell of Boise, Idaho, and Karren Campbell of Port Angeles; stepdaughters Loyette A. Pulham of West Jordan, Utah; sister Thelma Bergman of Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: Saturday, Nov. 22, 1 p.m., funeral in the Sequim Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 815 W. Washington St. First Counselor Richard Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Sequim View cemetery. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Any Boy Scouts of America troop.

John Albert Lovett

Oct. 19, 1918 -- Nov. 19, 2003

Sequim resident John Albert Lovett died of cancer at age 85.

He was born in Pueblo, Colo., to John Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Shaw) Lovett and grew up in Trinidad, Colo., before graduating from the University of Colorado.

He married Geraldine Loretta McWhorter in Denver on Nov. 28, 1942.

Mr. Lovett spent 32 years as a captain with United Airlines. He was a contributing member to United's accident investigation and safety teams and ended his career as director of flight operations for United Airlines in Denver.

He and his wife spent 20 years of their retirement in Sequim, where he pursued his passion of fishing for salmon on the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Mr. Lovett was a DeMolay Chavelier and 32nd-degree Mason. He also belonged to the Presbyterian Church and the Air Line Pilots Association.

Survivors include his wife; sons John A. Lovett of Chicago and Roger A. Lovett of Denver; daughter Sue Anne Thomsen of Charlotte, N.C.; sister Jeanette Sutherland of Seattle; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services: None. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Alice Munoz

Oct. 13, 1940 -- Nov. 17, 2003

Former Neah Bay resident Clara Alice Munoz died in Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, at age 63,

She was born to Fred and Josepha (Hunter) Irving in Neah Bay.

She graduated from Sealth High School in Seattle and married David A. Munoz there in the late 1960s.

She is survived by son David A. Munoz and daughter and son-in-law Joseph R. and Ruben Mondragon, all of Seattle; brother Aaron Irving of Seattle; daughter and son-in-law Rhea N. and Joseph Allen of Auburn; daughter Teresa S. Munoz of Granger; and 16 grandchildren.

Mrs. Munoz was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Carmen L. Peters, brother Frederick Irving, and sisters Freida Cole, Marion Wangen, Phoebe Rodriguez and Betty Irving.

Services: Today, Nov. 21, 1 p.m., funeral in Neah Bay Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Elmer Greene officiating. The service will be followed by a dinner in the Neah Bay Community Hall. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of cremation.

JUNE C. WARD

June C. Ward died in Sequim, Washington, on November 17, 2003, after a brief illness. She was 77 years old.

Mrs. Ward was born on June 8, 1926, on a homestead located near Vancouver, Canada. She married James A. Ward in April 1947, and became a naturalized American in February 1953.

June and James ran a successful radiator repair business in Everett, Washington, for many years. They resided in Lake Stevens after Jim's retirement in 1968.

After her husband's death in 1975, June continued working as an accountant at Evergreen Lanes in Everett, and donated many hours of volunteer work to the American Red Cross and the Everett Senior Center.

She moved to Sequim in 2000 to be closer to her son and his children.

During her life, Mrs. Ward overcame many challenges, and in doing so, inspired her family and friends with her strength and courage. She will be remembered for her caring nature, her devotion to family and her wonderful sense of humor.

She leaves behind a son, Joseph, and his family of Camano Island; a son, Jeffrey, and his family of Sequim; and a brother, Raymond, in Canada.

At her request, there will be no service. She will be put to rest next to her husband at Floral Hills cemetery in Lynnwood, Washington.

LORNA F. BLAIR

Lorna F. Blair was born March 18, 1921, to Lawrence and Bertha Kelley in Swatara, Minnesota. Mrs. Blair passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2003, following complications from open heart surgery.

Lorna moved to Sequim in 1947 and married Earl L. Blair on March 27, 1948.

She worked at the Bugge Cannery in Port Williams during the late 1940s and early 1950s. She worked at the Sequim Valley Nursing Home as a cook and nursing assistant, and also worked as a cook for the Three Crabs Restaurant during mid-1960s.

Well-known for her delicious cinnamon rolls, Mrs. Blair owned and operated the Blair's Café in Sequim from 1967 until 1972. She retired from working in 1973.

Mrs. Blair loved sewing, knitting and cooking. She was actively involved in the Mountain View Homemakers Club, the Sequim American Legion Auxiliary, the Sequim Senior Center, serving as a past Senior Center Queen, and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim.

Mrs. Blair is survived by her husband of 55 years, Earl, at their home in Sequim; her brother, L. Patrick Kelley and his wife, Leota Blair Kelley of Toledo, Washington; a sister, Marie Leonard and her husband, Robert of Duluth, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Robert Reed of Port Angeles, Washington; daughter Marti Blair of Gig Harbor, Washington, son and daughter-in-law Steve and Luanne Blair of Peoria, Arizona; and daughter Karen McMahan of Lawton, Oklahoma.

She is also survived by six grandchildren: Dennis McMahan of Casper, Wyoming, Jim Shepherd of Port Angeles, Washington, Jennifer Jacobs of McGregor, Minnesota, Christopher Blair of Gig Harbor, Washington, Jason Blair of El Mirage, Arizona, and Melanie Keasler of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Mrs. Blair also has eight great-grandchildren: Tiffany and Garrett McMahan of Casper, Makenna Shepherd currently residing overseas in Germany, JJ, Sophia, Joseph and Kathryn Jacobs of McGregor, and Wyatt Blair of Williamsburg.

Mrs. Blair was preceded in death by her brothers, Albert and Robert Kelley, and sister, Georgia Towne.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 21, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Sequim. The family has requested that any memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 155 N.E. 100th St., Suite 306, Seattle, WA 98125.

GORDON ANDERSON

Gordon Anderson's 89 years of life ended peacefully on November 16, 2003, at his home in Sequim, Washington, with his wife and three children at his side.

His life began in Duncan, British Columbia, as the second son of Elizabeth and John Anderson. After early days as a surveyor's apprentice in the Victoria area, he traveled as a young man to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, to work on the riverboats and then for the aircraft industry.

He brought his wife, Doreen, to Whitehorse as a new bride in 1941, where they lived until 1946. Their eldest son, Don, and twins, Doug and Darlene, were born in Whitehorse.

While working for Pan American Airways, the family moved first to Juneau, Alaska, then to Seattle, to Redwood City, California, and back to Juneau.

In 1958, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where Gordon was employed for 18 years by the Federal Aviation Administration. Gordon and Doreen retired to Sequim in 1976.

In his young days, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and dog training with his many friends in Alaska.

After moving to Sequim, he spent his remaining years sailing in Sequim Bay on the sailboat that he built, The Shady Lady, pulling crab pots until his 87th year, and making an annual winter trip to Kona, Hawaii, with his family.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 62 years, his three children and their families, including five grandchildren, and many other relatives in Canada. His family will miss him, but they know he had an adventurous 89 years and that he lived life to the fullest.

The Anderson family would like to particularly thank Assured Hospice for providing outstanding care over the past number of weeks, and to the many friends who have provided their well wishes.

A celebration of life will be held at 861 N. Oxford Way, Sequim, Washington, on Nov. 22, 2003, for friends and family. A memorial service will take place in Victoria, B.C., at a later date.

Yvette Poirier Boulay

April 1, 1921 -- Nov. 16, 2003

Port Townsend resident Yvette Poirier Boulay died at age 82.

She was born in Peabody, Mass., to Maxine and Clara Cecile (Drapeau) Perry.

She graduated from high school in Merrimac, Mass., where she married Maurice G. Boulay on Jan. 17, 1941.

The family moved from Haverhill, Mass., to Painesville, Ohio, in 1948. While raising her family, she worked as a waitress, machine operator and draftsperson.

When their children were grown, Mrs. Boulay and her husband moved to Monterey, Calif., and divided their time between California and New Hampshire during their retirement years.

After the Sept. 5, 1999, death of her husband of 58 years, Mrs. Boulay moved to Port Townsend.

Her interests included music, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, crocheting and cooking.

Mrs. Boulay is survived by sons Frederick M. Boulay of Monterey, Calif., and Charles R. Boulay of Port Townsend; brothers Albert Perry of Maine and George Perry of California; sisters Margaret L. Adams, Shirley Hayes and Betty Louviere, all of California, Joan Langlois of Virginia and Jeanette Marquis of Maine; and four grandchildren.

Services: None. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge.

Esther Levira Grenfell

July 19, 1910 -- Nov. 17, 2003

Esther Levira Grenfell died in Port Angeles at age 93.

She was born in Cranbrook, British Columbia, to Charles O. and Annie (Tonberg) Nelson.

She married Clarence B. Grenfall in Superior, Mont., on Jan. 11, 1938.

Mrs. Grenfell was a homemaker in Kellogg, Idaho for 60 years before moving to Port Angeles in 1998.

Baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among her favorite activities.

Mrs. Grenfell is survived by son Neil Grenfell of Camas; daughter Janet Morgan of Port Angeles; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her husband died March 12, 2000. She also was preceded in death by sisters Olga Bush and Edith Henderson, and four stepbrothers.

Services: Private services. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Queen of Angels Endowment Fund, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Steven Russell McQueen

May 14, 1956 -- Nov. 10, 2003

Port Townsend resident Steven Russell McQueen, 47, died in Brinnon of diabetes-related heart failure.

He was the son of Mervin Russell and Patricia Ann (Endt) McQueen.

He graduated from Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento, Calif., in 1974.

In 1974-1977, he served on active duty with the Army, where he was a heavyweight boxer and won triathlon honors with his 1, 500-man battalion.

Mr. McQueen was involved with Little League baseball for 10 years and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed the outdoors.

He belonged to Port Townsend Church of the Nazarene, and was a Teamsters member.

Mr. McQueen's two marriages ended in divorce.

He is survived by son Jeffrey McQueen; stepdaughter Kala Meade of Port Angeles; mother of Sacramento, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Mike and Patti McQueen, of Sacramento; sisters Karen Paloni and Gail McQueen, both of California; and grandparents Ralph and Sarah Endt and Hoyt and Stella McQueen Dorsey.

Services: Saturday, Nov. 22, 11 a.m., memorial in Port Townsend Church of the Nazarene, 13553 Airport Cutoff Road. Pastor Michael D. Lawton will officiate. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Open Arms Day Care, 13553 Airport Cutoff Road, Port Townsend, WA 98365.
