Richard `Dick' Roebuck
Nov. 2, 1949 -- Nov. 25, 2003
Richard ``Dick" Roebuck died in his Port Angeles home of a heart attack at age 54.
He was born in Port Angeles to Robert L. and Eva Grace (Pontius) Roebuck.
He was a member of the 1967 Port Angeles High School football team, which had an undefeated season.
Mr. Roebuck, who served with the Navy in 1970-72, was a Seabee veteran of the Vietnam War.
He married
Deborah Topness in Port Angeles on Oct. 2, 1976.
Mr. Roebuck owned and operated Olympic Raft and Guide Service in 1986-93.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans Association, Elks Naval Lodge and Peninsula Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, daughter Kari Ann Rutz and father, all of Port Angeles; mother, Eva Grace Johnson of Phoenix; brother Randall D. Roebuck of Lynden; and two grandchildren.

William K. Thomas Sr.
March 21, 1921 -- Nov. 29, 2003
William K. Thomas Sr. died in Port Angeles at age 82.
He was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Clyde and Emma (Anderson) Thomas.
He married
Lorraine Irish on July 19, 1942.
He enlisted in the Army in September 1942 and served in the 691st Field Artillery as a mechanic and driver. He was a ``red ball" trucker, hauling tanks of gasoline to Gen. George Patton's troops.
Mr. Thomas fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in November 1945 as a sergeant.
He then did construction work with his father, and worked for Pontiac and Cadillac dealerships in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Port Angeles for a total of 32 years.
His hobbies included antique auto restoration, square dancing and music.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and an active member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of Port Angeles; son and daughter-in-law Coy and Chris Thomas of Port Angeles; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Nina Thomas Jr., of Joyce; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughter Pamela Jaye and sisters Jane, Frances and Edythe.

Waneta Fay Case
June 27, 1924 -- Nov. 23, 2003
Former Sequim resident Waneta Fay Case died of heart failure in Sun City, Ariz., at age 79.
She was born to John and Pauline Vail on a farm near LaCygne, Kan.
In 1944, she married
Earl J. Case, a career naval officer who died in 1978.
After then, Mrs. Case met retired Army Col. George Powell, and they maintained homes in Enumclaw, Sun City, Ariz., and Sequim.
Mrs. Case's survivors include Col. Powell Sun City, Ariz.; son Vail Case of Port Angeles; daughter Cheryl Case of Sebastopol, Calif.; sister Wilma Reinig of Chandler, Ariz.; and one grandson.
Services: At her request, none. Sunland Memorial Mortuary, Sun City, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Ray Hankel
June 24, 1947 -- Nov. 25, 2003
Kenneth Ray Hankel died at Jefferson General Hospital in Port Townsend at age 56.
Mr. Hankel was born to Donald Ray and Irene Geraldine (Stetter) Hankel in Salem, Ore.
He married
Delores Quinn in San Diego on July 12, 1969. They divorced in 1974.
He married
Kimberly Isa Reed in Port Townsend on Dec. 24, 1990.
Mr. Hankel was in the U.S. Navy Reserve from October 1967 through October 1973, rising to the rank of quartermaster second class.
He attended the University of Washington and received a master's degree in psychology. He was a mental health worker with Jefferson Mental Health in Port Townsend.
Mr. Hankel enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cooking, fishing and watching sports.
Survivors include his wife of Port Townsend; son Alexander Reed Hankel of Port Townsend; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer Ann and Sean Osborn of Shoreline; brother and sister-in-law Keith C. and Sharon Hankel of Auburn; sisters Marthene F. Tolman of Federal Way and Sharon K. Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and one grandson.

John Henry Hottowe
May 12, 1923 -- Nov. 26, 2003
John Henry Hottowe of Neah Bay died of a stroke in Seattle at age 80.
He was born in Neah Bay to Archibald and Lyda (Butler) Hottowe and was a member of the Makah tribe.
During World War II, he was in the Navy and rose to the rank of aviation ordnanceman second class, and was decorated for the battles of Saipan and Leyte.
He married
Edith Ruth Markishtum in Tijuana, Mexico, on Aug. 26, 1947.
Mr. Hottowe worked as a logger, fisherman and Air Force civil service employee before his retirement in 1982.
He was not only the head of a large extended family and a cultural and spiritual leader of the Makah tribe, but was also a member of the Makah Whaling Commission, Makah Sla-hal Club and the Longhouse Board.
He was an instructor in tribal traditions at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, member of the Presbyterian Church and a past board member of the Makah Cultural Research Center.
Mr. Hottowe's survivors include his wife; sons Dale Hottowe and Geoffrey Hottowe, and daughter Jean Hottowe Vitalis, all of Neah Bay; brother George Hottowe of Surprise, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son John Arnold Hottowe; daughters Cynthia Jane and Melissa Lee; and sisters Nell Peterson and Norma Pendleton.
Services: Monday, Dec. 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitation in Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Funeral on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. in the Neah Bay High School gymnasium, followed by a graveside service in Neah Bay cemetery and a dinner at the high school. The Rev. James Kallapa will officiate.

Margaret Virginia Price Jhanson

Margaret Virginia Price Jhanson died of cancer in Port Townsend at age 85.
Mrs. Jhanson was born to Godfrey Axel and Ellen Victoria (Anderson) Crone in Crosby, Minn.
She married
Ronald Arthur Price in Perris, Calif., on July 13, 1941. He died Jan. 6, 1986.
She married
Arden Herman Jhanson on April. 4, 1987.
Mrs. Jhanson, who attended business college in Minnesota, enjoyed sewing and gardening.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include son Arthur Ronald and daughter-in-law Anita of Port Townsend; daughters and sons-in-law Nancy Ellen Louise and Robert Thorn of Port Ludlow and Susan Margaret and John Dodge of Everett; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: Saturday Dec. 6, 2 p.m., Grace Lutheran Church, 1120 Walker St., Port Townsend, with Pastor Howard Fosser officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Donna Mae Fudally

Donna Mae Fudally of Port Angeles died of cardiac arrest at age 71.
She was born to Arthur and Mabel (Mason) Lozon in Superior, Wis.
She married
John William Fudally in Superior on June 25, 1949.
Mrs. Fudally is survived by her husband of Port Angeles; sons David Michael Fudally and Michael Edward Fudally, both of Port Angeles; sons James William Fudally of Coral Springs, Fla., and Phillip Joseph Fudally of Palmdale, Calif.; daughter Linda Marie Harback of Saugus, Calif.; brother Art Lozon of Billings, Mont.; sister Bernice Cieslicki of Superior, Wis.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services: Private family services were held with Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, in charge of arrangements.
David Stone Griffith
Sept. 16, 1947 -- Nov. 14, 2003
Former Sequim resident David Stone Griffith died in Redmond at age 56.
He was born to John T. and Elizabeth Francis ``Betty" (Stone) Griffith in Washington, Iowa, where he grew up before moving to Sequim in 1959.
He was a graduate of Sequim High School.
Mr. Griffith left Sequim for Seattle in 1965. He lived in Nanjing, China, in 1985-87 before settling in Redmond.
He married
Anne Roda in Seattle in 1989; they divorced in 2001.
He is survived by son Jonah Griffith of Bellingham; and mother and brother John P. Griffith, both of Sequim.
Services: None. Affordable Cremation Services, Bellevue, is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Ray Hankel

Kenneth Ray Hankel, 56, of Port Townsend died in Jefferson General Hospital.

Marvin Lafayette Nix
Dec. 30, 1910 -- Nov. 26, 2003
Port Angeles resident Marvin L. Nix died of a stroke in Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center, Sequim, at age 92.
He was born in Sherman, Texas, to James Oscar and Memphis O'Dell (Scroggins) Nix.
He was a 30-year veteran of military service, starting with the Army Air Corps in World War II and continuing until his retirement from the Air Force at the rank of chief warrant officer.
In addition to enjoying baseball, fishing and music, Mr. Nix was an artist who worked in oil, chalk and watercolors. He completed his last painting one week before his death.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Fairview Bible Church.
On April 2, 1931, Mr. Nix married
Barbara Emelia Moore in Covington, Ind. She died Aug. 25, 2001.
He is survived by daughter Marsha Welch of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Clifford Moulton of Lancaster, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law Robert and Shirley Nix of Boulder City, Nev., and David and Lois Nix of Riverside, Calif.; six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m., funeral with reception following at Fairview Bible Church, 385 O'Brien Road, Port Angeles. Pastor Jack Clapp will officiate.
Monday at 1 p.m., burial will be in Tahoma National cemetery, Kent.
