Barbara Jean Cates of Port Hadlock died in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles, of cancer. She was 53.
She was born in Port Angeles to Allen and Violet (Daughtry) Cowles.
She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Green River College.
She served in the Navy from 1977 to 1983.
She married
Douglas Edward Cates in California in May 1980.
Mrs. Cates was a member of Lighthouse Christian Center in Port Angeles.
She enjoyed computers and crafts.
Survivors include her husband; daughters Margaret Dempsey and Dawn Cates, both of Port Hadlock; father Allen Cowles and sisters Patsy Yoder, Liz Trowbridge and Robin Jacobs, all of Port Angeles; sister Tina Robison of Vancouver, Wash.; brother Sonny Cowles Jr. of Silverdale; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Services: Friday, March 5, 4 p.m., memorial in Church of the Nazarene, 13553 Airport Cutoff Road, Port Townsend. The Rev. Kenneth Cates of the Apostolic Charismatic Church will officiate. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.
George A. Deering Jr.
Oct. 2, 1926 -- Feb. 17, 2004
Sequim resident George A. Deering Jr. died of a stroke in Sequim. He was 77.
He was born in New York City to George A. and Martha Janet (Graves) Deering Sr., and grew up in Elmhurst, N.Y.
After serving in the Navy in 1946-50, Mr. Deering was a builder and construction superintendent in Elmhurst and Valley Stream, N.Y.
He retired to Port Angeles in 1990.
His interests included history and current events, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He was also active in his neighborhood association.
Mr. Deering never married

He is survived by sister Martha Fran Leinhos of Port Angeles and sister-in-law Connie Deering of Baldwin, N.Y., and Lakeworth, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John James Deering.
Services: At his request, none. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge.
Kenneth Brian Richmond
April 16, 1960 -- March 1, 2004
Sequim resident Kenneth Brian Richmond died of cancer at age 43.
He was born in Port Angeles to Fredrick Ronald and Betty Jane (Green) Richmond.
He married
Janine ``Jay" Heather Berdan on March 12, 1989.
Mr. Richmond received an associate of arts degree from Clove Park Technical Institute. A printer, he was owner of Richmond Press in Sequim.
The Civil War enthusiast was commander of Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War Camp 1, and a member of Washington Territorial Guard for sesquicentennial events throughout Washington.
Mr. Richmond was a member of the Clallam County Heritage Advisory Board.
Survivors include his wife, daughters Cyntia and Heather, all of Sequim; parents Fredrick and Betty Jane Richmond of Port Angeles; brother David Richmond and sister Nancy Reyes, both of Port Angeles; and brother Randy Richmond of Woodinville.
Services: Friday, March 1, 6:30 p.m., memorial at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim. Graveside service March 21, 1 p.m., in Sequim View cemetery, 1505 Sequim-Dungeness Way. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Joy Ellen Robinson
April 23, 1933 -- Feb. 29, 2004
Port Angeles resident Joy Ellen Robinson died of cancer in Seattle at age 70.
She was born in Lincoln, Neb., to Elmer W. and Helen E. (Haddix) Baird.
She married
Gene Robinson in Chehalis in July 1951.
Mrs. Robinson was a stay-at-home mother. She also owned and operated Bavarian Inn Bed and Breakfast for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years; son Mark Robinson and daughter Linda J. Long, both of Port Angeles; daughter Bonnie J. Hawley of Gig Harbor; her mother, Helen, of Seattle; brothers Duane and Robert, sister Pharaby; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: Thursday, March 4, and Friday, March 5, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitation in Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Funeral on Saturday, March 6, 1 p.m., in the Masonic Temple, 622 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles. The Revs. Jon Knochenmus and Nicholas Bunger will officiate.
Burial in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, will be followed by a potluck reception in the Masonic Temple.
Lisa Segura
Oct. 19, 1924 -- Feb. 22, 2004
Former Port Angeles resident Lisa Segura died of cancer in San Luis Obispo, Calif., at age 79.
She was born in New York City to Johannes Mateus and Marie Elena (Lau) Tiedemann.
She graduated from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, with a major in drama then later received bachelor's degrees in nursing and education.
She married
David Covell in Orange County, Calif., in 1946. They later divorced.
She married
Phil Segura in Pasadena, Calif., in 1973.
From the late 1970s through the 1980s, the Seguras lived in Port Angeles, where Mrs. Segura worked as a teaching nurse before retiring to California.
She was active in community theater, directing several Rogers and Hammerstein productions for the Port Angeles Light Opera Association and acting with Port Angeles Community Players.
Survivors include her husband of Woodland Hills, Calif.; son John Covell of Washington D.C.; sons and daughters-in-law Christopher and Julie Covell of Lodi, Calif., and Paige and Karen Covell of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; stepson Mike Segura of Maui, Hawaii; stepdaughter Kath of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services: Celebration of life was on Feb. 26 in Morro Bay, Calif. Coast Family Cremation Service, San Luis Obispo, was in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie B. Brown
June 2, 1919 -- Feb. 26, 2004
Sequim resident Bonnie B. Brown died in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles, at age 84.
She was born in Hebron, Neb., to Frank and Lulu (Harris) Currey.
She married
Philip E. Brown in Washington, Kan., on Jan. 31, 1936.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker, wife and mother, and lived in Nebraska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Utah before moving to Washington.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and decorating.
She was a member of Sequim Valley Car Club and the Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Pam Brown of Issaquah and Larry and Terry Brown of Tonesket; daughters and sons-in-law Carole and Bill Hauskins of Seattle, Karen and Bill Hewgley of Sandy, Ore., and Linda and Bill Monforte of Clinton; brother and sister-in-law Norman and Ila Currey of Hebron, Neb.; sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and T.B. Ames of La Conner; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: The family's memorial will be at a later time. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge.
Sandra Patricia Geyer
June 1, 1955 -- Feb. 29, 2004
Wife and mother Sandra Patricia Geyer, 48, died of breast cancer in her Forks home with her family by her side.
She was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, to Thomas C. and Nena Esther (Sanders) Anderson.
She graduated from Issaquah High School in 1973.
She married
Frank W. Geyer in Forks on July 30, 1988. Earlier, she had been married
to Norris Browning and Gary Jennings.
Mrs. Geyer was a secretary, bookkeeper and owner of Gary's Auto Body Shop, and secretary at Eagle Repair and B&P Auto Repair, all in Forks.
She enjoyed being with young people, riding horses and raising German shepherd dogs.
Survivors include her husband; sons Army Sgt. Shane R. Jennings and Tyler W. Geyer and daughter Amber N. Jennings, all of Forks; stepdaughters Jocelyn N. Geyer of Louisiana and Stephanie M. Geyer of Steilacoom; mother of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters Stephanie Anderson of Fruitland and Trudi Crumbley of Hobart; and one grandchild.
Services: At her request, none. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home and Crematory, Port Angeles, was in charge of arrangements.
Mona Fay Wells
Oct. 1, 1941 -- Feb. 27, 2004
Port Townsend resident Mona Fay Wells died of heart failure at age 62.
She was born in Arriba, Colo., to Robert and Bertha (Bitterman) Stufflebean.
On Aug. 13, 1959, she married
Armor Wells in Sterling, Colo., where the Wellses made their home before moving to Washington nine years ago.
Survivors include her husband, son Tracy Wells and daughter Michelle Sanchez, all of Port Townsend; brother and sister-in-law Eddie and Irene Stufflebean of Longmont, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law Jeannette and Duane Oglesby of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant son in 1962, and by a grandson in December 2003.

Richard `Skip' Wheeler
Feb. 27, 1946 -- Feb. 24, 2004
Richard ``Skip" Wheeler died in his Port Ludlow home of cardiac arrest at age 57.
He was born in Seattle to Richard Charles and Ruth (Remington) Wheeler and grew up near Issaquah.
During the Vietnam War, he served as a Navy electronics technician onboard the USS Ticonderoga in 1964-68.
Mr. Wheeler married
his high school sweetheart, Wilma Raye Bowers, in Issaquah on Aug. 23, 1968.
Beginning in 1968, he was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell, US West and Qwest in Seattle, Aberdeen and, from 1983 until death, in Port Townsend. Additionally, he was the Qwest representative to the Utilities Council of Port Townsend.
Mr. Wheeler, who had served as both steward and chief steward of the Communications Workers of America, was area vice-president of the local at the time of his death.
He belonged to San Juan Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
He had every western book by Louis L'Amour in his library, enjoyed traveling and salsa music.
Survivors include his wife; son and daughter-in-law Richard Charles and Jennifer Lynn Wheeler III; daughter and son-in-law Amy Ruth and Jeffrey Scott Bounds; brother Robert Wheeler and brother and sister-in-law John and Linda Wheeler; sister Deborah Wheeler; and four grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, March 6, 2 p.m., memorial in San Juan Baptist Church, 1704 Discovery Road, Port Townsend. Pastor Dan McMillan will officiate. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Georgianna Reynolds
March 8, 1920 -- Jan. 17, 2004
Georgianna Reynolds died in Port Angeles at age 83.
Mrs. Reynolds was born in Spokane to Glenn and Anna (Marshall) Merchen.
She married
Earl Reynolds in Spokane in 1945. He died in 1990.
After spending her teenage years in Phoenix, Mrs. Reynolds returned to Spokane. Moving to Seattle she worked in secretarial positions and later assisted her husband's CPA practice.
The Reynolds owned a rustic fishing camp on Knouff Lake, near Heffley Creek, British Columbia.
Mrs. Reynolds was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority and did volunteer work for Girls Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz., where the Reynolds retired. She enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Lynn David and Meredith of Arlington; son Richard Earl of Port Angeles; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by sisters Phyllis Tye and Gweneth Merchen.
