Dale William Paddock
April 23, 1926 -- March 15, 2004
Surrounded by his family, Dale William Paddock died of cancer in his Sequim home. He was 77.
He was born in Mandan, N.D., to Merritt Elbrige and Rose (Loritz) Paddock.
He served on active duty in the Air Force in 1951-78.
Mr. Paddock is survived by his wife, the former Virginia R. Dees, whom he married
in Poteau, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Debbie Paddock of Georgetown, Calif.; daughter Caron Gilbert of Portland, Ore.; sisters and brothers-in-law Carol and Jim Charles of Deer Park, and Virginia and Dennis Ross of Nine Mile Falls; sister Jeanne Sasser of Artesia, Calif.; brother-in-law Robert Sharp of South Cle Elum; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Janus Sharp, Leone Miers and Laura Ann Paddock; and brother Donald Paddock.
Services: Saturday, March 20, 10 a.m., funeral in Cascade Funeral Home, First and Harris streets, Cle Elum. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Cle Elum. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

George Pepperdine
Oct. 21, 1928 -- March 15, 2004
George Pepperdine died in Port Angeles at age 75.
He was born in Chicago to Ben and Dora May (Pilkington) Pepperdine.
He married
Beverly Ruth Manwaring in Salt Lake City on Jan. 1, 1948.
Mr. Pepperdine, who earned a master's degree in engineering and was a licensed mechanical engineer in California, worked in Salt Lake City, Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Saudi Arabia before coming to Port Angeles.
He had a strong interest in defending the Constitution, and enjoyed music, flying, fishing and hunting.
Mr. Pepperdine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife; sons Alan Douglas Pepperdine and David Craig Pepperdine, both of Carrollton, Texas, and Norman Scott Pepperdine of Spanish Fork, Vt.; daughters Mary Christine Mathews of Foxboro, Mass.; Donna Sue Pepperdine of Port Angeles; Diana Ruth Catlin of Salt Lake City; Rosanna Lee Hamilton of Columbia, Md.; and Karen Doreen Postlewate of Grapevine, Texas; 23 grandchildren; and sister Dorothea Bremer of Clovis, Calif.
Mr. Pepperdine was preceded in death by sister Mary Pipkin and brother Ben Pepperdine.
Services: Friday, March 19, 11 a.m., funeral in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 815 W. Washington St., Sequim. Burial will be in Blue Mountain cemetery, about one mile up Blue Mountain Road, behind the old schoolhouse.

Clyde J. Ziegler
Oct. 25, 1914 -- March 15, 2004
Port Angeles resident Clyde J. Ziegler died at age 89.
He was born in Westline, Mo., to Eli and Lena (Masterson) Ziegler.
During World War II, in 1942-45, he served in the Army in the United States, including the Aleutian Islands.
Mr. Ziegler was a professional photographer who owned a photo studio in Portland, Ore., in the 1950s before purchasing a studio and camera shop in Shelton in 1952. He also operated a shop in Bremerton.
He came to Port Angeles in 1969 and was original owner of The Camera Corner at the corner of First and Lincoln streets.
He was a member of Lions, Rotary and Elks in Shelton and the Elks Naval Lodge in Port Angeles.
Mr. Hodgson enjoyed bowling, traveling, fishing and hunting.
He married
Mary Hodgson in Port Angeles.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ziegler's survivors include son and daughter-in-law Larry and Susan Ziegler of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Julie and John Bennett of Woodinville and Gail and Burke de Briere of Kirkland; sister Nell Berquist of Escondido, Calif; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Former wives Phyllis Manning and Hazel Lester preceded him in death.

John C. `Jack' Benjamin
Aug. 24, 1924 -- March 14, 2004
Port Angeles resident John C. ``Jack" Benjamin died at age 79.
He was born in Vincennes, Ind., to Maurice E. and Gwen (Willis) Benjamin.
After joining the Navy in 1942, during World War II, he served 22 years before retiring in 1964 as a radioman first class, specializing in cryptography.
In addition to assignments in Florida and California, Mr. Benjamin saw overseas duty in North Africa at Bizerta, Tunisia, and Oran, Algeria; in the Pacific at Kwajalein, Marshall Islands; Wahwahi and Pearl Harbor, both in Hawaii; and Yokosuka, Japan. He also served aboard USS Cavalier, Herbert J. Thomas, Renshaw and Dixie.
He enjoyed sharing stories of his life to anyone who would listen.
He married
Gladys Green, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include son Michael Benjamin of Covina, Calif.; brothers Joseph Benjamin, Donald Benjamin and twins Jerry and Gene Benjamin; sister Mary Lyons; and one grandchild.
Services: At the family's request, none. Burial will be in Tahoma National cemetery, Kent. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge.
Mark J. Barthlow
May 16, 1951 -- March 10, 2004
Mark J. Barthlow died of cancer in Sequim at age 52.
He was born to James L. and Hilda K. (Andreas) Barthlow in Yakima.
He served with the National Guard and worked as an electrical engineer.
Mr. Barthlow married
Lori A. Davy in Las Vegas, Nev., on July 19, 1988.
Survivors include his wife and daughter Nicole Barthlow, both of Sequim; his mother, Hilda, of Goldendale; and sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Don Hopper of Goldendale.
Services: None. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Jennie M. Stossel
Feb. 20, 1920 -- March 13, 2004
Port Angeles resident Jennie M. Stossel died at age 84.
She was born in Pablo, Mont., to Earl and Constance (Esperson) Suter.
She married
Joe Stossel in Riverton, Wyo., on Aug. 9, 1939.
Mrs. Stossel moved from DeKalb, Ill., to Port Angeles in 1962.
She enjoyed traveling, camping and time with her family. She was a member of Eagles Club and Circle O Square Dance Club.
Survivors include sons Ray Stossel and Billy Stossel and daughters Connie Smith and Deena Kellen, all of Port Angeles; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1979, and brother Earl Suter in 1969.

JIMMY LEWIS BOLIN
Jimmy Lewis Bolin was killed while riding his motorcycle in a chain-reaction wreck on March 7, 2004.
Jimmy died after his motorcycle crashed into the back of a wrecked pickup truck that was in his lane on Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jimmy was born on Aug. 27, 1954, in Gillette, Wyoming, to James Ore and Flossie Mable (Fraker) Bolin. His family moved to Forks in 1962, where he grew up and attended school.
Upon turning 18, Jimmy joined the United States Marine Corps where he graduated from high school in Orange County, California. He served overseas in Okinawa, Japan, for several years.
Jimmy married
Cathy Lynn Mobley on July 4, 1976, at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in California.
After completion of his military service, Jimmy attended college at the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He received a degree in diesel mechanics and moved his growing family back to his hometown in Forks in 1978.
Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, boating and fishing. He liked to ride his motorcycle across the United States.
But most of all he loved spending time with his family and his best friend, Sammy, the dog.
Jimmy was a self-employed mechanic who worked all over the West End. He will be greatly missed by the town of Forks, all of his friends and especially his family.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Jesse Topp, who died five months earlier, on Oct. 16, 2003, in a car accident.
His surviving family members are his children, Chris and Linda Bolin; his stepchildren, Hollie and Jeremy Frank and Timothy Hawkins; his grandchildren, Hailey Lynn Bolin and Lottie Frank; his parents, Jim and Flossie Bolin; a brother, Bubba Bolin; two sisters, Cherri Topp and Lorri Bolin; two nephews, Jake and Andy Topp; his only niece, Michelle Bergerson; and a great-niece Madison Adams; two ex-wives, Cathy Meitner and Corky Jones; and the Jones family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Assembly of God Church in Forks, Washington, on Saturday, March 20, at 1 p.m. There will be a potluck following the service.
JAMES D. CURNEW SWAYAM ISHAYA
Nov. 2, 1940-Feb. 15, 2004
Swayam died by his wife's side at their home in Denmark.
He owned Peninsula Security in Port Angeles for 20 years.
He touched everybody's life that knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind his wife, Satarupa; five sons, Jamie, Alex, Robert, Kenneth and Morton; three sisters; two granddaughters and a whole world of friends.
There will be a celebration of his life March 21 at noon at the Salt Creek Recreation Area picnic grounds.
Joseph G. Akers
Oct. 17, 1928 -- March 10, 2004
Joseph G. Akers of Sequim died in Port Angeles at age 75.
He was born to Carroll E. and Eugenia F. (Hinkle) Akers in Portland, Ore.
He graduated from Milwaukie Union High School in Milwaukie, Ore., in 1947.
He served with the Army in 1950-1953, attaining the rank of sergeant first class.
Mr. Akers married
Paulie L. Benson in Portland, Ore., on March 22, 1951.
He earned his bachelor's degree from San Jose (Calif.) State University in 1966.
Mr. Akers was a flight engineer for Pan American World Airways for more than five years and an employee of Lockheed Corp. for 28 years.
He retired in 1988 as chairman of the board of directors and general manager of Lockheed International Ltd. of Taiwan.
He is survived by his wife; son and daughter-in-law William B. and Shari Akers of Ferndale; daughters and sons-in-law Karen K. and Mark Austin of Puyallup and Jennifer L. and Mark Tomas of Marysville; brother David D. Akers of Ward Cove, Alaska; sisters Carol Lee Terp of Big River, Calif., and Karla J. Bell of Mulino, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.
His sister, Joan F. Creager, died in 1971.
