HARUKO `QUEENIE' ALLADO
Haruko ``Queenie" Allado died May 10, 2004, in Yakima Regional Hospital in Yakima, Washington.
Queenie was born on April 24, 1914, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Ishikichi and Roku Sagara. The family moved to the Toppenish/Wapato area in 1917.
Queenie graduated from Wapato Senior High School in 1932.
She married
Julio Allado on September 10, 1939. They settled in Wapato and operated a successful truck farm for many years.
Queenie joined the Yakima Valley Council of Camp Fire Girls organization in 1952 and was active as a group leader, board member and volunteer into the '80s.
She was the Summer Camp Director for Clallam Council of Camp Fire Girls from 1960 through 1985. She also directed the ARC Camps at Camp David Jr., Port Angeles, Wash., and Camp Roganunda, Naches, Wash.
She touched and influenced many young women and young men counselors who worked for her year after year.
Because of her experience in directing successful youth camps and her love for the outdoors, Queenie was appointed to serve on the State of Washington Parks and Recreation Commission from 1985 through 1994.
In recognition of her work with the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, a tree was planted in her honor at Maryhill State Park on the Columbia River.
She was affiliated with a number of service organizations, such as the Altrusa Club which awarded her the ``Business Woman of the Year" in 1967. Lately she was a member of the Children's Hospital Fisher-Halverson Guild.
Queenie's talent in art and crafts was displayed when she demonstrated the craft project of the week on a 1960s local Yakima TV program sponsored by the Clover Leaf Hobby Shop.
In the 1970s she worked for Pacific Rim Imports, Seattle, Wash., as a demonstrator. Returning to Yakima, she worked at Hobby Time, an arts and craft business, where she began to teach oil painting classes.
She guided hundreds of budding artists through the techniques of oil painting. Her motto, ``It's not talent, its technique, " enabled many students to produce wonderful and satisfactory paintings on their own.
She is survived by her husband, Julio, of Wapato, Wash., and daughter JoAnne Wroblewski and her partner, H. Peter Pederson, of Bremerton, Wash.
Also surviving immediate family members are brothers Thomas Sagara, Denver, Colo.; Stanley Sagara, Burlington, Wash.; Douglas Sagara and wife, Ruby, and Kenneth Sagara and wife, Carol, Kirkland, Wash.; as well as sisters Mary Osaki, Beaverton, Oregon; and Evelyn Lee and husband Charles of Hawaii.
Her parents, sister Cheryl Inoki and brother Elmer Sagara preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 15, 2004, 8 a.m. at Merritt Funeral Home, 218 W. Third Street, Wapato, Wash. Concluding services and burial followed at Tahoma cemetery, Yakima.

Neal Mischke
Sept. 11, 1922 -- May 11, 2004
Port Angeles resident Neal Mischke died of cancer in Olympic Medical Center at age 81.
He was born in Los Angeles to Arthur and Elsie (Neely) Mischke.
Mr. Mischke, who was a senior pilot with the Army Air Corps during World War II, continued on active duty with the Air Force Reserve until he retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He held a bachelor's degree in engineering.
Mr. Mischke also served on a Los Angeles city fireboat.
Boating, photography and traveling to visit family and friends were his pastimes.
He was a member of the American Legion, National Rifle Association and Masonic Lodge.
He married
Phyllis Mae Seabold in Los Angeles on Aug. 19, 1949.
Mr. Mischke is survived by his wife; sons Mark, Dean and Eric Mischke; daughter Denny Charlton; sister Barbara Fenley; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services: None. Olympic Cremation Association, Port Angeles, is in charge.
Arleen M. Blossom
May 4, 1922 -- May 5, 2004
Arleen M. Blossom died in her Port Angeles home, one day after her 82nd birthday, from a heart-related condition.
She was born in Havre, Mont., to Frank T. and Myrtle May ``Mattie" (Butts) Bunton.
She married
Jack T. Blossom in Aberdeen in 1944. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Blossom lived in Aberdeen, Tacoma, Seattle and California before moving to Port Angeles, which became her home for 60 years.
She is survived by nieces Joyce Ingle of Port Angeles and Laurie Peden of Fountain Valley, Calif.; and nephews Joe de la Torre of Seattle, Robert Torres of Clearlake, Calif., and Jim, Richard and Lester Nevins, all of Columbia Falls, Mont.
Services: At her request, none. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge.
J. Wesley Fitts
Aug. 28, 1942 -- May 8, 2004
J. Wesley Fitts of Forks died of a heart attack at age 61.
He was born in Seattle to Allen W. and Agnes (Senier) Fitts.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.
He married
Barbara Hanson in Yakima on Dec. 27, 1963.
At the time of his death, Mr. Fitts was a crew supervisor for the Department of Natural Resources, with which he was employed for 25 years.
He was with U&I Sugar in Toppenish in 1973-79, and an elementary schoolteacher in Orting and Wapato in 1967-73.
Hunting, fishing, history and Bible study were his primary interests.
Mr. Fitts and his wife were founding members of Forks Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Fitts' survivors include son James R. Fitts of Milwaukie, Ore.; daughter Betsy L. Webber of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother Mikki Brockman of Seattle; and five grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, May 15, 1 p.m., memorial service, followed by potluck, in Forks Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Tom LaFrenz will officiate. Burial will be in Yakima. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Madelyn I. `Madge' Giles
Dec. 29, 1915 -- May 11, 2004
Port Townsend resident Madelyn I. ``Madge" Giles died at age 88 following a stroke.
She was born to Donald P. and Mary J. (Thompson) Matheson in Denver, where her parents had a boarding house.
She married
William Arthur Giles in Wichita, Kan., on March 11, 1946.
The Gileses moved to a Chimacum homestead.
Although largely self-taught, Mrs. Giles was a judge's secretary until her retirement.
She enjoyed cooking and had a large collection of cookbooks. She also liked to travel and attended many shows in Seattle. Shopping, reading and playing cards were also among her pastimes.
Mrs. Giles was a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include sister-in-law Jerrine Maine of Port Angeles and husband Ernest; and brother and sister-in-law Ken and Marjorie Matheson of Ponca City, Okla.
Her husband died in 2001.
Services: Monday, May 17, include recitation of the rosary at 11:30 a.m. and memorial Mass at noon in St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1335 Blaine St., Port Townsend. The Rev. Gary Sumpter will celebrate. Burial will be at the family's plot in Colorado. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.
Juanita Jacobs Hof
Oct. 18, 1909 -- May 9, 2004
Juanita Jacobs Hof died in Port Angeles Care Center at age 94.
She was born in Coleman, Texas, to the Rev. Joseph R. and Lilly (Warren) Davis.
She earned an associate's degree and was a licensed practical nurse. She was a nursing home director and owner in Wenatchee and Port Angeles.
She belonged to the Washington State Nursing Association.
She married
Peter J. Hof in Port Angeles in 1976.
Mrs. Hof was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she served as pianist for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda L. Daniel, of Burlington; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and brothers Joe, Warren, Ben and Harley Davis.
Services: Today, May 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitation in Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Fourth and Laurel streets, Port Angeles.
Funeral on Friday, May 14, 10 a.m., in Hillcrest Baptist Church, 205 Black Diamond Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. Ed McKay will officiate. Burial will be in Ocean View cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles.
William Walton Loos
Oct. 20, 1930 -- May 9, 2004
William Walton Loos died of a heart attack in Port Angeles. He was 73.
He was born in Sterling, Ill., to William Launcelot and Mildred (Walton) Loos.
He served in the Navy in 1950-53, during the Korean War, then attended college in DeKalb, Ill.
He married
Billie R. Huenger in Sterling, Ill., on May 23, 1954.
After working as a fireman, Mr. Loos was an architect in Rock Island, Ill., and Scottsdale, Ariz., before coming to Port Angeles.
Mr. Loos, who was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, woodworking and viewing ships.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Jeffrey William and Melanie Camille Loos of Spicewood, Texas, John Raymond and Patricia Ann Loos of Queen Creek, Ariz., and William Gerald and Paula Jean Loos of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.
His wife died Aug. 15, 2001. He was also preceded by his sister, Susan Finkle.
Services: Friday, May 14, 4 p.m., memorial in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez, Port Angeles. The Rev. Charlie Mays will officiate. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Klaus Joachim Steinhorst
July 24, 1946 -- May 10, 2004
Klaus Joachim Steinhorst of Sequim died in a vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 101. He was 57.
He was born in Warendorf, Germany, to Wolfgang O. and Edith Dorthea (Rondthaler) Steinhorst.
During the 27 years he served with the Coast Guard, Mr. Steinhorst saw duty in Vietnam, Kodiak, Alaska, Astoria, Ore., Seattle, Klamath Falls, Ore., Portsmouth, Va., and Port Angeles.
He attended numerous trade schools for mechanical engineering and received his associate's degree in diesel power from Peninsula College.
Mr. Steinhorst was a multi-craft mechanic for seven years with Nippon Paper Industries USA Co. Ltd. in Port Angeles and was a member of the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers.
His interests included spending many hours of his time on work-related projects, his family, the beach and sailing.
He married
Cathy Jo Jacobs in Lakewood on Jan. 22, 1972.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Steinhorst's survivors include son Tim Steinhorst of Edgewood; daughters and sons-in-law Heidi and A.J. Pluhar of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Sandy and Jay Hofer of Vancouver, Wash.; mother Edith of Tucson, Ariz.; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Renee Steinhorst of Sheridan, Wyo.; sister and brother-in-law Rita and Dave Clark of Sletcher, Vt.; and five grandchildren.
Both his father and a son, Gary, preceded him in death.
Services: Today, May 13, 1:15-2 p.m., visitation in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 132 E. 13th St., Port Angeles, immediately preceding the funeral at which the Rev. Dave Schmidt will officiate. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the service. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home and Crematorium, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
