Betty Coulter

Betty Coulter of Port Hadlock died in Seattle at age 73.
She was born in Port Townsend to Laurence and Ivy Emma (Payne) Stenstrom.
She married
Marvin Francis Coulter in Olympia on Feb. 26, 1950.
She is past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and Grand Page of Eastern Star of Washington.
Mrs. Coulter was an avid bridge player, golfer, square dancer and round dancer. She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
Survivors include her husband; son Clifford Coulter of Port Angeles; son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Carol Coulter of Seattle; daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Randy Jones of Fairbanks, Alaska; and four grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, June 5, 11 a.m., memorial in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1020 Jefferson St., Port Townsend. The Rev. Elizabeth Block will officiate. Reception follows in the parish hall. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Faye Edmisten
Oct. 30, 1943 -- May 30, 2004
Neah Bay resident Marilyn Faye Edmisten died in Seattle of liver failure at age 60.
She was born in Port Angeles to David Clarence ``Tye" and Leah Rita (Smith) Parker.
Mrs. Edmisten was a member of the Shaker Church.
In addition to daughter Jody Lynn Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., survivors include daughters Cheryl Ann Edmisten, Leah Jean Moccardine and Vicki Jo Carlson of Neah Bay; son John Clarence Edmisten of Neah Bay; mother Leah Parker of Neah Bay; and brothers David Clarence Parker, Jr. and William Michael Parker, and sisters Doris Jean Parker, June Allison Parker and Theresa Elsie Parker, all of Neah Bay.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by daughter Rita Faye Edmisten, her father, grandparents Thomas and Hazel (Butler) Parker and Frank and Bertha (Lane) Smith; and sister Merle Fay Parker.
Services: Thursday, June 3, 10 a.m. to noon, visitation in Assembly of God Church, Third and Fort streets, Neah Bay, where the funeral will be at 1 p.m.
Graveside services in Neah Bay cemetery and dinner in the community hall will immediately follow the funeral.

Susan J. Fisher
Sept. 23, 1948 -- May 28, 2004
Susan J. Fisher died of cancer in her Port Angeles home at age 55.
She was born in Helions Bumpstead, England, to John William and Patricia Ann (Baldock) Patrick.
She married
Edward Norman Fisher in Port Angeles on June 20, 1992.
Mrs. Fisher, who had lived in Auburn before coming to Port Angeles, worked as a limited practice officer in escrow.
She was a member of Rod 'n' Wizards Car Club. She also enjoyed going to the beach, gardening, cooking and doing cross-stitch embroidery.
In addition to her husband, survivors include son Andrew Paul Rogers of Seattle; daughter Rebecca Sue Cornish of Port Angeles; father of Auburn; brother Michael J. Patrick of Entiat; sisters Judi M. Bonnet of Auburn and Penny J. Johnson of Issaquah; and one grandchild.
Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her mother.
Services: Friday, June 4, 1 p.m., memorial in Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. Eldon Officer will officiate.
Potluck at the family home, 212 Old Black Diamond Road, Port Angeles, will follow the service.

Fred Lee Henke
April 25, 1938 -- May 25, 2004
Port Angeles resident Fred Lee Henke died in Tacoma at age 66.
He was born in Sheridan, Wyo., to Carl and Stella (Birdie) Henke.
A 40-year resident of Clallam County, Mr. Henke belonged to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
Mr. Henke's survivors include sons Kris Henke and Kevin Henke and daughter Kim Romberg, all of Port Angeles; and three grandchildren.
Services: None.

Christopher Travis Homan
Feb. 2, 1972 -- May 19, 2004
Former Port Angeles resident Christopher Travis Homan died in Yakima at age 32.
He was born in Port Angeles to David Charles and Sarah Maxine (DeMott) Homan and attended Port Angeles schools. He was also active in Junior Babe Ruth.
Four years ago, Mr. Homan moved to Yakima, where he was a cabinet installer.
Mr. Homan is survived by his wife, the former Donna Marie Stevens, whom he married
in Coffeyville, Kan.; son Travis Homan and daughter Chelsea Homan, both of Coffeyville; and son Matthew Homan of Olympia.
Also surviving are mother Sarah Hulett and brother Rick Perez, both of Yakima; brothers Don Laramore of Moses Lake, Kelly Homan of Okanogan and David Homan of Port Angeles; grandmother Margo DeMott of Port Angeles; sisters Patricia Stevens of Stillwater, Okla., Sandra Reed of Helena, Mont.; Kathy Johnson of Independence, Kan.; and Shelly Homan of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his father and by his grandfather, J.R. DeMott.
Services: Private memorial services were held on May 22 in Yakima Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Dinsmore presiding. Cremains were taken to Coffeyville, Kan.

Esther Jean Lato

Sequim resident Esther Jean Lato died of cancer in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles. She was 70.
She was born in Cranmoor, Wis., to Lawerence and Mary (Smith) King.
She married
Philip Lato in Augusta, Wis., on June 30, 1962.
Mrs. Lato was a child care provider Crystal, Minn., before moving to Sequim last year.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sequim.
Survivors include her husband of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Bradley and Audrey Lato of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Tamie Lato of Crystal, Minn.; daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie and John McCloud of Crystal, Minn., and Barbara and Scott Trierweiler of Coon Rapids, Minn.; daughter Brenda Lato of Plymouth, Minn.; brothers Roger King of Augusta, Wis., and Glen King of Wisconsin; sisters Gladys Henning of Augusta, Wis., Sylvia Bluem of Eau Claire, Wis., Arlene Harrigan of St. Paul, Minn., Dorothy Gragert of Bloomington, Minn., and Ruby S. Iver of Ann Arbor, Md.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Julian and Bernard King.
Services: Today, June 2, 7 p.m., vigil in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim.
Funeral Mass on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Beattie presiding. A reception will follow the services at the church.

Annie M. Barker
July 29, 1916 -- May 27, 2004
Annie M. Barker died at Kah Tai Care Center in Port Townsend at age 87.
She was born in Spring Glen, Utah, to Franc and Anna (Valle) Prazen.
After being raised in Spring Glen, she began work in Price, Utah, as a telephone operator -- beginning a telephone career that spanned most of her working life.
She was a switchboard operator for the Salt Lake Tribune and Salt Lake City Police Department, and worked for Pacific Northwest Bell in Port Townsend until 1963.
She was also employed in the laundry and dry cleaning business.
Her pastimes included cooking -- especially the ethnic dishes of her Austrian heritage -- plus gardening, beach walks, picnics and following the Seattle Mariners baseball team.
She married
Emmet K. Barker in Medford, Ore., in July 1943. Before they divorced, she lived in Japan for two years and traveled much of the United States as an Army wife. Mr. Barker died in 1974.
In Port Townsend, Mrs. Barker attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, and was a volunteer at Kah Tai Care Center for 10 years.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Ann Marie and Harry Fountain of Port Townsend, and Kate Barker and Louis Giliberti of Upper Black Eddy, Pa.; daughter Sandra McDermott of Portland, Ore.; brothers John Prazen of Price, Utah, and Mark Hovat of Torrance, Calif.; sister Carolyn Ducdale of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by brothers Frank Prazen, Tom Hovat and Rudy Hovat, and special friend Riley E. North.
Services: Wednesday, June 2, 11 a.m., memorial service in the main dining room of Kah Tai Care Center, 751 Kearny St., Port Townsend. Richard Nordberg will officiate.
A celebration of life for close friends and family members will be held in the summer.

Susan Joan Fisher died at her Port Angeles home surrounded by family members.

Edward Bailey
June 13, 1914 -- May 4, 2004
A memorial service for retired Army Brig. Gen. Edward Bailey will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Morgan officiating. Burial was in Ohio.

Ruth I. Bond
Feb. 3, 1914 -- May 20, 2004
Sequim resident Ruth I. Bond died in Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center at age 90.
She was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Otho and Ida (Chase) Cotton.
She married
Ralph Bond in Indiana on Dec. 25, 1929.
Before moving to Sequim in 1987, the Bonds lived in Arizona, Tacoma and Enumclaw.
Although her primary interest was in her family, Mrs. Bond also enjoyed the ocean and beaches, and needlecraft such as crocheting and knitting.
She was a member of Dungeness Community Church.
Survivors include daughters Beverly Miller of Arizona and Carol Idler of Enumclaw; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, and by daughter Joyce Wolf.
