Karl Jacobsen
April 4, 1914 -- June 1, 2004
Karl Jacobsen died in Port Townsend at the age of 90.
Mr. Jacobsen was born in Holstad, Norway to Karl and Hilma (Lundli) Jakobsen.
He moved to Seattle in 1927 and to Port Townsend in 1929. He graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1935.
Mr. Jacobsen married
Lillian O. Tjemsland on Dec. 24, 1942. She died in 1999.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters from 1943 to 1945.
Mr. Jacobsen worked for Olympic Pile Driving (Cotton Construction), Olympic Ferries, Black Ball Navigation, and retired from Alaska Ferries.
He enjoyed skiing, hunting, and fishing and was an alternate to the 1936 U.S. Winter Olympics ski-jumping team.
Mr. Jacobsen was a member of the Port Townsend Alumni Association and Destroyer-Escort Sailors Association.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Karl and Sandra, Paul and Ginger, and Greg and Maureen, all of Port Townsend; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Peter, and sisters Asbjorg Imsland and Bea Reese.
Services: At his request, no services.

Beulah Awilda Klint
June 21, 1911 -- June 3, 2004
Beulah Awilda Klint died in Sequim at age 92.
Mrs. Klint was born to James Elmer and Mossie Belle (Oram) Sampair in Tacoma. She attended schools in Kansas, South Dakota and Washington.
She married
Theodore Shaughnessy in Sequim on Dec. 2, 1936. He died in 1968.
She married
Carl Klint on Oct. 22, 1972. He died in 1977.
Mrs. Klint worked at Gray Marsh Estates, Southwoods, Western Auto and Moon Palace, and was a hostess at the VFW. She also sold Avon products for 22 years. She was a 4-H leader and enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Eugene and Phyllis Shaughnessy of Copalis; son Ted Shaughnessy of Sequim; daughter Vernita Tucker of Colville; daughter and son-in-law Crystal and Richard Parker of Sequim; daughter-in-law Dorothy Shaughnessy of Puyallup; sisters Bessie Eleanor Halsell of Aberdeen and Nettie Melissa Nelson of Eugene, Ore.; 35 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons Neil and Larry Shaughnessy and Ben Hatton, and brothers James Albert Sampair and Vernon Richard Sampair.
Services: Visitation Friday, June 11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, 108 W. Alder St., Sequim. Funeral service Saturday, June 12, 11 a.m., at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, with Chaplain Dennis Niva officiating.

Mabel Augusta Rosenthal
July 25, 1911 -- June 3, 2004
Port Hadlock resident Mabel Augusta Rosenthal died in Kah Tai Care Center, Port Townsend, at age 92.
Mrs. Rosenthal was born to Henry August and Ida (MacMillin) Rieboldt in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. Her mother died when she was 3, and she was raised by her aunt, Mabel Rieboldt.
As a young woman she moved to Manitowoc, Wis., where she worked for Wisconsin Public Power.
She married
Henry Luehrsen Rosenthal in Madison, Wis., in 1940. He died in 1988.
She graduated magnum cum laude with a bachelor's degree from Carroll College. She taught high school in Wisconsin and helped to introduce new curricula on Native American contributions to history.
After her husband's death, she moved to Port Hadlock with her son and granddaughter.
She was a lifetime member of AAUW, WEA, and Delta Kappa Gamma. As an active member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Port Hadlock, she was involved in altar guild, WELCA and the quilting group. She enjoyed traveling with her sons.
Survivors include sons Jim and Gerritt, and her granddaughter.
Services: Monday, June 7, 1 p.m., memorial in Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 45 Redeemer Way, Chimacum. Pastor Don Pieper will officiate. Burial will be in Milwaukee, Wis. Kosec Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Townsend is coordinating arrangements.
Joseph Robert Funk
Jan. 30, 1948 -- May 30, 2004
Quilcene resident Joseph Robert Fund died of cancer at age 56.
The son of Edward and Ella (Slingloff) Funk was raised in Santa Rosa, Calif.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War in 1966-68.
Mr. Funk married
Antonia Spencer in Santa Rosa, Calif., in 1968. They later divorced.
He worked as a turbine millwright and lived in Quilcene for the past 16 years
Mr. Funk enjoyed crabbing, playing softball and being with friends.
Survivors include son Joseph Robert Funk II of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; daughter Kristina Marie Sjostrand of Rocklin, Calif.; brother Michael Funk of Livermore, Calif.; sister Margaret Funk of Anderson, Calif.; and one grandchild.
Services: Today, June 4, 3-8 p.m., gathering of friends at the family home, 50 W. Columbia St., Quilcene, with potluck at 5-6 p.m. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of burial.
John Monroe Robinson Jr.
July 21, 1934 -- June 2, 2004
John Monroe Robinson Jr. of Port Angeles died of cancer at age 69.
He was born to John Monroe and Johnnie Lee (Ramsey) Robinson in Estelline, Texas, where he graduated high school before earning a bachelor's degree from Texas Technical University in Lubbock, Texas.
He married
Mary Deaun Collins in Childress, Texas, on Jan. 26, 1951.
Mr. Robinson was employed by Safeway Stores Inc. in California and New Mexico for 34 years. He was also employed by Exelpro in Wellsville, Utah, for six years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Gideons International.
His pastimes included woodworking, hunting, playing guitar and singing with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, son Johnny Don Robinson, daughter Mary Katherine ``Kathy" Linard, sister Nan Coffman and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Mary Faye Ramsey.
Services:. Saturday, June 5, 5 p.m., memorial in First Baptist Church, 1322 Sequim-Dungeness Way, Sequim. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, was in charge.

Mabel Augusta Rosenthal

Russell E. Johnson
Aug. 17, 1919 -- May 30, 2004
Russell E. Johnson died at his Jamestown home at age 84 with niece Rosie Zwanziger by his side.
Born in Jamestown to Wilson and Ethel (Wood) Johnson, he was a member of the Jamestown S'Klallam tribe.
Except for World War II service with the Navy aboard the battleship USS Nevada, he spent his entire life in Jamestown.
Mr. Johnson was employed at the Carlsborg mill before retiring from M&R Lumber Co.
He is survived by brother Harold Johnson of Jamestown and numerous nieces and nephews.
Brothers Harris ``Brick" Johnson and Wilfred ``Muff" Johnson, and sister Edith Cusack preceded him in death.
Services: Friday, June 4, 1 p.m., memorial in Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, 108 W. Alder St.

WILLIS (BILL) W. FINLEY
Willis (Bill) W. Finley died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at the age of 85, at Hospice House in Kennewick, Wash.
He lived in West Richland for two years.
He grew up in Benton City and in 1960 moved to Port Angeles, where he was employed by Swain's General Store and managed the Marine Department. He retired in 1984, but continued to work for Mr. Swain on a part-time basis.
He was in the U.S. Army for four years, earning several medals.
He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star.
Willis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene, daughter Joy Dawn Finley of West Richland; sons Darrell Finley of Forks and Jerry Finley of Sequim; brother Ralph Finley of Kennewick; and three sisters, Mildred French of Benton City, Jean Rhodes of Richland and Fay Jenkins of Odem, Texas.
He had three grandsons, two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Edrie Finley, and two brothers, Earl and Forrest.
At Willis' request there will be no services.
LOUISE FINICAL JAMES
Louise James was born in Valdez, Alaska, on June 30, 1914, to William M. and Winifred Ashby Finical.
She passed away Nov. 9, 2003, in Willsboro, New York, at the age of 89.
She lived in SunLand in Sequim from 1977 until 2003, when she went back to the East Coast to be nearer her two sons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb. They had over 50 years together.
Louise was active in the Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild as well as an avid golfer.
There has not been a service.
MARTHA ELIZABETH SISSON
February 12, 1910-May 26, 2004
Martha passed away at Crestwood Convalescent Center of congestive heart failure.
She was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Jacob and Caroline (Thomas) Pelnarsch and moved to Spokane, Washington, when she was 10 years old. She worked at many jobs in Eastern Washington.
She moved to Port Angeles in the early 1940s, where she worked at the Rayonier Mill during World War II.
She married
Howell (Jack) Sisson on July 14, 1947. They had a poultry farm for many years in Indian Valley, west of Port Angeles. The poultry barn was destroyed by fire in 1971.
In 1976 she moved to Seattle and lived with her sister until April when she moved back to Port Angeles due to her health.
She was a member of the Fairview Grange and Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She loved working crossword puzzles, reading and a good game of Scrabble.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Henneke of Kent and Caroline (Allen) Collins of Port Angeles; her stepchildren, Howell (Kathy) Sisson, Norman (Pat) Sisson, and Dawnelda (Bill) Havercroft of Spokane; her grandchildren, Michael and Tony Robinson, Melanie Rooney and Kerry Collins; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Amalia, in Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, two brothers and one sister.
As per her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Washington School of Medicine. A Memorial Mass will be held June 4, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Port Angeles.

Richard Lee Bradley
July 23, 1934 -- May 9, 2004
