DAVID CLARENCE HARRISON
April 19, 1954-June 24, 2004
David Clarence Harrison died quietly June 24 in Seattle, Washington, after a long-term illness at the age of 50.
He was born in LaPush to Charles H. Harrison and Helen C. (Hobucket) Harrison on April 19, 1954.
The oldest child of a military family, he spent his childhood traveling the world, attending schools in Germany, California and Oregon. He graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma in 1972.
Upon graduation, he attended the Institute of American Indian Arts, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1974. He also attended the University of Washington in Seattle.
He moved to Seattle in 1975 and worked at Yuen Lui Photography Studios as a photo lab technician for more than 20 years.
He had a great sense of humor, loved to read and eat fine foods, and he carried his camera wherever he went.
He had a great love for Libby and Norbert, his pet cats for 18 years.
He is survived by father Charles and wife Wallis of LaPush, brothers and sisters, John and Rhonda Pi^pbon, Carol and Dennis Bender, Gene, Sandra and Charles Jr., and Catherine and Luis Ceja, all of LaPush, Melisa Eyle of Port Angeles and Nora Eastman of Forks; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother in 1998, and by his twin sisters, Elizabeth and Kimberly.
A private family service was held at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel in Port Angeles. The officiant was Jerry Bower of Forks. Cremation to follow, and along with the remains of Libby and Norbert, will be spread at sea.
He will be missed, but not forgotten.
Bessie Ruth Bain
Feb. 5, 1928 -- July 3, 2004
Lifelong Neah Bay resident Bessie Ruth Bain, 76, died of a heart attack at Soos Beach.
She was the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Anderson) Swan.
A member of the Makah tribe, she participated in traditional native culture events in Washington and Canada.
Her first husband, Herb Daniels, died in December 1972; her second husband, Joseph Robert Balch, died in September 1999.
Mrs. Bain is survived by sons Herb Daniels Jr., Don Swan, Kevin Groat and Roger Bain, all of Neah Bay; Kim Ward of Kona, Hawaii; Chuck Lyksell of Vancouver, Wash.; and Sam Dafoe of Sequim.
Her daughters are Paulette Hanson, Gwen Swan and Billie Jo Ward, all of Neah Bay; Toni Earles of Shelton; Georgeanna Straight of El Paso, Texas; Shannon Bain of Kirkland; and Regina Bain of Port Angeles.
And her sisters are Joy Smythe and Fernell Dicey Kauffman, both of Seattle; Dalores Swan of Portland, Ore. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by daughter Geroldeen Bain, brothers Levi and Emil Swan and sisters Helma and Katherine Swan.
Services: Thursday, July 8, 2-5 p.m. visitation in Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles; Sunday, July 11, at 1:30 p.m., funeral in Assembly of God Church, Third and Fort streets, Neah Bay. Dale Heinlein will officiate. Burial will be in Neah Bay cemetery. A reception in Neah Bay Community Hall will follow services.
Albert Vincent Flores
Sept. 25, 1981 -- July 4, 2004
Port Angeles resident Albert Vincent Flores died in Olympic Medical Center at age 22. He died of muscular dystrophy.
The son of Hilaria Flores, he was born in Seattle and attended Port Angeles High School.
Survivors include his caregivers, with whom he lived; uncle and aunt Vincent and Maria Nanez; and cousins Veronica and Martin Nanez, all of Port Angeles; mother, of Port Angeles; and sister Tricia Flores of Texas.
Services: Today, Wednesday, July 7, at 11 a.m., funeral in Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles. The Rev. Kurt Nagel will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles.

Roger William Hull
Aug. 8, 1950 -- July 2, 2004
Sequim resident Roger William Hull died at age 53.
He was born in Los Angeles to Maurice R. and Betty (Brown) Hull.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University.
Mr. Hull, who lived in Port Angeles and Sequim, was employed in telecom management.
He enjoyed cars and wood-working.
Survivors include his parents and brother Larry Hull, all of Vancouver, Wash., and sister Betty Jane Dunlop of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Services: Today, Wednesday, July 7, at 1 p.m. in Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, 108 W. Alder St. Chaplain Dennis Niva will officiate.

Willard H. `Bill' Scidmore Jr.
Aug. 7. 1929 -- July 3, 2004
Willard H. ``Bill" Scidmore Jr. died in Port Townsend from heart failure at age 74.
He was born in Berkeley, Calif., to Willard H. and Kathleen ``Kitty" (Baker) Scidmore and spent some of his early years in Port Townsend, where his maternal grandparents T.H. and Mary Ann Baker established Baker Dairy in the early 1900s.
He graduated from Southern California Military Academy; from Long Beach State University (with bachelor's degrees in sociology and business); and University of Southern California.
He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952, during the Korean War.
He spent several years in personnel and labor relations before working in universities. His last 15 years before retirement were as a high school psychology teacher in Southern California.
In 1989, Mr. Scidmore returned to Port Townsend.
His personal interests centered on physical fitness, gourmet cooking and woodworking.
He married
Mary Rae Jordan on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1953. They divorced before her death in 1985. She was the mother of his sons.
On March 26, 1988, he married
Phyllis Arlene (Jolly) Callahan in Long Beach, Calif.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Scidmore's survivors include sons Jordan Mark Scidmore of Issaquah and Matthew Baker Scidmore of Arcata, Calif.

William Tyler
Sept. 8, 1923 -- July 3, 2004
William Tyler died in Port Angeles Care Center at age 80.
He was born to Iva Tyler at Neah Bay, where he was a member of the Makah tribe.
In 1942, he joined the Navy for World War II service and was stationed at Kodiak, Alaska, from 1942 to 1944 then joined combat forces and served aboard the troop carrier USS Crockett in the Pacific. While he was in the South Pacific, grandfather Willie Tyler died but the family was unable to locate and notify him of this passing.
After the war, Mr. Tyler remained in the South Paciifc, aboard LSM 171, until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was then a lifelong member of Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Tyler returned to the Northwest, where he worked as a logger before attending business college in Tacoma and Seattle. He then became a federal employee with the General Services Administration, Bureau of Indian Affairs in Lapwai, Idaho.
Later, he returned to Neah Bay where he was a commercial fisherman and administrative officer for the Indian Health Service. He was elected to serve on the Makah Tribal Council and used his business skills as director of the Community Action Program in Neah Bay.
He was an active member of the Ba'hai Faith.
On Jan. 13, 1949, Mr. Tyler married
Klara Sternbeck in Tacoma.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Tyler's survivors include sons Gregory Tyler of Neah Bay and Dr. Scott Tyler of Newcastle; daughter Linda Paisano of Lapwai, Idaho; brother Joseph Lawrence and sisters Josephine Ray and JoDean Haupt-Richards, all of Neah Bay, and Betty Croy of Edmonds; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Alan and Stephen; mother and stepfather Joe Lawrence; and brothers Floyd Tyler, Toby Tyler and Kenneth Lawrence.
Services: Saturday, July 10, at 1 p.m., graveside in Neah Bay cemetery. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles is in charge of arrangements.
Merritt Alan Corbin
Dec. 15, 1910 -- May 30, 2004
Merritt Alan Corbin died of complications from a stroke in Forks at age 93.
Mr. Corbin was born to Harry and Violet (Walls) Corbin on Vashon Island.
He married
Helen J. Fleming on June 9, 1934, at his parents' home on Vashon Island. Mrs. Corbin died in 2000.
Mr. Corbin graduated from Vashon High School in 1929, and from the University of Washington in 1934, earning a degree in forestry.
While at the University of Washington he was a member of the oval track team and attempted to qualify for the Olympics.
Mr. Corbin was an assistant ranger at Snoqualmie National Forest in 1934. In 1935, the Corbins moved to Columbia National Forest, where he worked as a technical assistant at the Wind River Experimental Station.
In 1936, he began a 32-year career with Rayonier Inc., first in Port Angeles and then in 1943 in Forks.
He became assistant supervisor of contract logging for Rayonier in the Forks area and worked out of the company's headquarters in Sappho.
After he retired, Mr. Corbin worked as an independent timber consultant. For several years he and his wife were commercial fishermen. They enjoyed frequent trips for beachcombing.
Mr. Corbin was an active member of Forks Congregational Church.
Survivors include sons Paul Corbin of Friday Harbor and David Corbin of Bridgeport; and daughters Nancy Corbin of Bellevue and Sue Corbin of Port Angeles; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Cleora Delma Gossage
April 16, 1917 -- June 5, 2004
Cleora Delma Gossage of Sequim died at age 87.
Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Rodney J. Christy
June 27, 1951 -- June 2, 2004
Rodney J. Christy died in Port Angeles of a heart attack at age 52.
He was born in Seattle to Henry J. and Rita Mae (Evans) Christy.
He was a high school graduate and completed two years of college.
Mr. Christy served in Vietnam in 1969 as a private first class in the Marine Corps.
He was a wastewater plant operator for 20 years at Olympic Corrections Center near Forks.
Mr. Christy enjoyed boating and fishing and was frequently found working on boats or cars. He also enjoyed spending time with horses.
He was a past member of the Lions Club and Moose Lodge.
Survivors include son Ross Jae Christy of Port Angeles; and sisters Bonnie Mae Longstreet and Joy Dee Peavey, both of Oregon, and Gay Christine Fletcher of California.
Services: Celebration of life to be held in Sandy, Ore. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Judith Elizabeth Hamilton
Feb. 6, 1964 -- May 26, 2004
Port Angeles resident Judith Elizabeth Hamilton died at age 40 aboard an airliner en route to a vacation in Hawaii. She had had an extended illness.
Born in Concord, Calif., to Eugene and Imelda (Brennan) Ross, she graduated from Concord High School in 1982.
In 1984, she moved to Clallam Bay, where she held several jobs -- at SeaFirst Bank, Woody's Cafe, Al's Mini Mart and Cove Restaurant.
After moving to Port Angeles about four years later, she was employed as a billing specialist for the Port Angeles city Utilities Department.
She married
Allen Hamilton in Reno, Nev., on April 22, 1990.
Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, and the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her father and sister Mindy Ross, both of Walnut Creek, Calif.; sisters Patty Ross of San Francisco, Peggy Morgan of Concord, Calif., Ellen Youngling of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Molly Ross of Hartford, Conn.; and brothers Mike Ross of Oakdale, Calif., Joe Ross of Antioch, Calif., and Tom Ross of Napa, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Services: Saturday, June 19, 1 p.m., memorial at Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road. The Rev. Dr. Mike Jones will officiate. A reception at the church will follow the service.
Ultimate Cremation in Honolulu was in charge of burial arrangements.
