Harriet Lucille Topolovec
Oct. 7, 1922 -- Aug. 1, 2004
Former Port Townsend resident Harriet Lucille Topolovec died in Messenger House Care Center on Bainbridge Island at age 81. She had Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Algona, Iowa, to Howard Zenith and Nora Alice (Lambdin) Bacon, she grew up on a hog and potato farm.
The family moved to Price, Utah, where she graduated from high school in 1939.
After one year of vocational training, she became a secretary for the Carbon School Board in Utah.
She married
Rudy Topolovec on June 12, 1943, and for the next 50 years worked for the school districts, an insurance company, helped her husband and father on their farms and raised a family.
Mrs. Topolovec helped her father with whatever was needed, whether milking or delivering, at Bacon Dairy. She made all her own soaps, ``canned everything in sight, " did many kinds of needlecraft from hand quilting through crocheting bedspreads, tablecloths and afghans, and excelled at fishing.
The Topolovecs moved to Port Townsend in 1993.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Randall and Kathy Topolovec of Salt Lake City; daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Ronald Kosec of Port Townsend; sisters and brothers-in-law Bonnie and Harold Reed of Wofford Heights, Calif., and Judy and Jack Reynolds of Eagle, Idaho; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Her husband died in 1999. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, David, and sisters Helena Howard and Alice Marie Yarbrough.
Services: Friday, Aug. 6, 1 p.m., graveside in Price City cemetery, Price Utah. The Rev. Nancy Boswell will officiate. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend is in charge of arrangements.
Alice Decker
Aug. 4, 1930 -- July 28, 2004
Port Angeles resident Alice Decker died of cancer in Crestwood Convalescent Center at age 73.
She was born to Frank A. and Margaret (Blake) Cloquet in Port Townsend.
She married
Jerry O. Olsen, the father of her daughters, in Bremerton in 1949. He died in 1962.
She has been with her husband, Basil ``Andy" Decker, for 30 years.
Mrs. Decker enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, claming, camping and fishing, and she was an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Melvia Gebhardt of Port Angeles, Sandra Marinsik of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Kathy Ellis of Bullhead City, Ariz.; brother Richard Cloquet of Columbia, Ore.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Decker was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Cloquet, and sister, Evelyn Nesser.
Services: Today, Aug. 1, 1 p.m., celebration of life at Tongue Point, Salt Creek Recreation Area, Mrs. Decker's favorite recreational area. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of burial.

Michael Jerome Hockett
April 14, 1956 -- July 28, 2004
Michael Jerome Hockett of Brinnon died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash in Quilcene. He was 48.
Mr. Hockett was born to Vernie J. and Margaret Hockett in Auburn. He was married
and divorced.
Mr. Hockett was raised in Auburn and graduated from college in Tukwilla as a diesel mechanic. He worked at Morrison Gravel in Port Orchard as a heavy-equipment operator.
He had lived in Brinnon for 14 years.
He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, hunting, and fishing, and spending time with his twin granddaughters.
Survivors include son Shawn P. Houston of Brinnon; daughter Alicia A. Hockett of Tacoma; his mother of Brinnon; brother George S. Hockett of Puyallup; sisters Peggy A. Walker and Mary L. Tudor, both of Port Townsend, and Betty Callahan of Glendale, Ariz.; and two granddaughters.
Services: Tuesday, Aug. 3 1 p.m., services at Brinnon Community Church with Pastor Bill Reid officiating. There will be a gathering, which will be announced at the service.
Kosec Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge.
Sverre M. `Swannie' Swanson Sr.
March 25, 1922 -- July 29, 2004
Sequim resident Sverre M. ``Swannie" Swanson Sr. died at age 82.
He was born in Tonjhjiem, Norway, to Hjalmar and Ingeborg (Andersen) Swanson.
He served in the U.S. Navy in 1939-53, during both World War II and the Korean War. He was in Tokyo Bay on the day of the Japanese surrender, Sept. 6, 1945.
After military service, Mr. Swanson was chief engineer at Heidelberg Brewery in Tacoma for 37 years.
He was the first commodore of the Heidelberg Boat Club in 1957.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, shrimping and crabbing.
He married
Marie Campau in Las Vegas on Nov. 18, 1991.
Survivors include his wife; sons Sverre Swanson Jr. of Puyallup, Dan Campau of Seattle and Barry Campau of Las Vegas; daughters Jeanie Bolding of Auburn and Sheila McClane of Seattle; brother Harry I. Swanson of Oak Harbor; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, Aug. 7, 10 a.m., memorial in Lazy Acres Clubhouse, 111 Dryke Road, Sequim. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

JULIE BRODHUN PRUSS
After a powerful and determined battle with cancer, Julie Brodhun Pruss (Julieanne Eda Brodhun Pruss) passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, the 28th of July.
Julie was born in Port Angeles on August 21, 1949, to Albert C. and Frances J. (Marsura) Brodhun.
She attended Franklin Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from Port Angeles High School, where she was known as an enthusiastic and energetic cheerleader, in 1967.
She attended Mr. Lee's School of Beauty in Seattle in 1968, returned to Port Angeles in 1969 and was employed at Haguewood's for several years. She then went to work at The Beauty Chalet, which she later purchased and changed the name to Julie's Shear Elegance.
Julie was an avid golfer and participated in several PNGA tournaments. She was President of the local Women's Golf League for several years and won the Women's Club Championship at Peninsula Golf Club in 2002.
She loved to travel with her family and friends and spend as much time as possible at their summer home on Lake Sutherland. Gardening was a labor of love for Julie, as her garden clearly showed.
She was also a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Julie is survived by her husband of 25 years, John; sons Cody of Bellingham and Kelly of Port Angeles; brothers Robert (Bob) and wife Mary, Scott and wife Tracie, and Jon and friend Monica Graves, all of Port Angeles; nieces Karie and husband Eric of Auburn, Tracie and husband Eric, Lynzie, Lexie and Brittney; and nephew Boe, all of Port Angeles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Frances Brodhun, sister Janis, and brother Michael.
Julie was well known in the community as a leader, an entrepreneur and a friend to all. She had many friends including neighbors, golf buddies, co-workers, church members, and the Wilder baseball team members. She loved them all and was loved in return.
She was an inspiration to all. Her sense of humor and sincere giving nature never waived, even during her long illness. Her family and friends will always remember her for her strength, determination and courage.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, August 2nd, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Charles Mays officiating.

Julieanne Eda Brodhun Pruss
Aug. 21, 1949 -- July 28, 2004
Julieanne Eda Pruss died in her Port Angeles home of cancer. She was 54.
She was born to Albert C. and Frances J. (Marsura) Brodhun in Port Angeles, where she graduated from high school in 1967.
She married
John Pruss in Port Angeles on Sept. 15, 1979.
She attended Mr. Lee's Beauty School in Seattle.
Mrs. Pruss was a hair-salon owner for 30 years, most recently Julie's Sheer Elegance in Port Angeles.
She was a member of Peninsula Golf Club, and enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending summers at Lake Sutherland.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband and son Kelly, both of Port Angeles; son Cody of Bellingham; and brothers Robert, Scott and Jon, all of Port Angeles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael and sister Janis.
Services: Monday, Aug. 2, 1 p.m., memorial in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles. The Rev. Charlie Mays will officiate. A reception in the church fellowship hall will follow. Olympic Cremation Association is in charge of arrangements.

Sam B. Trail
Nov. 13, 1978 -- July 22, 2004
Former Sequim resident Sam B. Trail died in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Lewiston, Idaho, of injuries received from an accidental gunshot wound. He was 25.
Services: A memorial service will be held in Sequim at a time to be announced. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, Lewiston, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.
James Ryan Wallace
May 7, 1946 -- July 23, 2004
James Ryan Wallace died in his Port Angeles home at age 58.
He was born to Keith Edward and Doris Bernice (Ryan) Wallace in Port Angeles.
He graduated from high school in Port Angeles in 1964, then attended Peninsula College.
He married
Chetta Winters in Port Angeles on Jan. 1, 1973.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. Wallace served in the Merchant Marine.
He enjoyed traveling and held many construction jobs that led him to different locations.
He was a member of the Laborers union and of Independent Bible Church.
Mr. Wallace's survivors include his wife, daughters Maria Barclay and Tori Barclay, all of Port Angeles; daughter Heather Stormon of Florida; brother Ed Wallace of Port Angeles; sister Margrette Williams of Federal Way; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death be daughters Dawn Marie Wallace in 1987 and Carrie Gill in 2000.
Services: Sunday, Aug. 8, 2 p.m., celebration of life in Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles. Graveside service was held July 29 in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CLARA KUNKEL
May 16, 1913-Nov. 19, 2003
The memorial service for Clara M. Kunkel will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 13th and Lincoln St., Port Angeles on Saturday, July 31, 2004, at 1:30 p.m.
The Reverend Philip Ritter will officiate.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Drennan-Ford Funeral Home.
GRETTA JEANNE BETHEL
Gretta Jeanne Bethel of Lake Stevens, Washington, passed away at home on July 25, 2004.
Gretta was born August 16, 1939, to Elmer Roup and Minnie Goudy in Port Angeles, Washington.
She is survived by her two sons, Darwin (Melissa) Dryden and Dennis Dryden; four grandchildren; brother Darwin (Wanda) Roup; sister Lila (Rodger) Petroff; brother Ron (Trisha) Roup; nieces and nephews as well as several stepchildren, friends and loved ones.
A service of remembrance will be Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Bauer Funeral Home, Snohomish, Washington
Cecilia Rita Casprowitz
Dec. 14, 1912 -- July 21, 2004
Former Port Townsend resident Cecilia Rita Casprowitz died in Arlington at age 91.
She was born in San Mateo, Calif., to Edward Joseph and Harriet (Davison) Yingling.
Before moving to Arlington seven months ago, Mrs. Casprowitz lived in Port Townsend for 30 years.
She is survived by sons John of Arlington and George of Surrey, British Columbia.
Services: None. Inurnment was in San Fernando Mission cemetery, Mission Hills, Calif. Kosec Funeral Home and Crematory, Port Townsend, coordinated arrangements.
