LORENA MARTHA (MAEDIE) SLOVER

Lorena Martha (Maedie) Slover passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2004, in Bellingham.

She was 84, born July 30, 1920, to Martha (Knappe) and The Reverend Hans Poland in Seattle, Washington.

Lorena graduated from Pacific Lutheran in 1940, earned her BA from Central Washington College in 1943, was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society, and did post-graduate work at Seattle Pacific College.

She taught at Randle, Toutle Lake, Mossy Rock and Seattle. The Olympic Hills School library in Seattle was named in her honor.

Following her retirement in 1973, Lorena lived in Duvall and Port Angeles before recently moving to Bellingham.

She had many hobbies and interests, which included forestry, gardening, camping, hiking, skiing, church work, needlework, weaving and playing the piano.

Lorena was preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin and Walter Poland.

Survivors include her husband, James Mark Slover of Bellingham; daughters Sandra Slover Mottner of Bellingham and Ruth Haring of Olympia; and granddaughters: Kristin Sprague and Katie Milburn, both of Olympia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clallam County Hospice, 540 E. Eighth Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 28, at Ocean View cemetery, Port Angeles, Washington.

ROY PAUL BULLOCK

August 10, 1919-August 2, 2004

Port Angeles resident Roy P. Bullock died unexpectedly at age 84.

The son of Michael and Regina Bullock, he was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

He joined the 147th Field Artillery Battalion of the South Dakota National Guard in 1939. During World War II, he served with the 41st Division in New Guinea.

Roy married Gwen Helen Schwab on the 8th of November, 1945, in Portland. He and Gwen raised a healthy, happy family of five children there.

He was a plumber for more than 40 years, first as a member of Local 51 and then 290.

Mr. Bullock was an artist in his very soul: He painted, carved, sketched, sculpted. He loved to listen to swing-era music and sing along in his best Bing Crosby style.

He read two or three books a week and was interested in every subject under the sun. He loved golf, fishing and boxing.

He celebrated his 72nd birthday in a small sailboat out on the Pacific Ocean.

In addition to his beloved wife, Gwen, Mr. Bullock is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Lee and Sylvia Bullock of Warrenton, Oregon, Dale and Susan Bullock of Woodburn, Oregon, and Buck and Deanna Bullock of Portland, Oregon; daughters and sons-in-law Lynn and Jim Mattix of Port Angeles, and Kay and Chuck Cicalese of Portland, Oregon; sisters Helen Malsom of Mesa, Arizona, and Dorothy Yeaw of Emmett, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Lucille Bullock of Portland, Oregon; grandsons Lee A. Bullock, Scott M. Bullock, Vance M. Mattix, Brent J. Mattix, Andrew M. Bullock, William J. Bullock, Louis J. Cicalese, Adam P. Bullock, and Scott Wynkoop; granddaughters Kristi J. Bullock, Kay L. Bullock, Assunta L. Cicalese and Jessica Wynkoop; great-grandsons Seth L., Mitchell B. and Wyatt J. Mattix; and great-granddaughter Victoria E. Dochow.

SERVICES

A private memorial will be held on Friday, August 6th, at 11 at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Port Angeles.

Theodore W. Bradshaw

June 28, 1925 -- Aug. 2, 2004

Theodore W. Bradshaw of Sequim died at age 79.

Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Nogle McMullen

April 25, 1915 -- July 24, 2004

Lois Nogle McMullen died in Sequim of arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease at age 89.

She was born to Archie and Mary (Young) Nogle in Post Falls, Idaho.

She married John L. ``Mac" McMullen in Post Falls on Nov. 27, 1946.

Mrs. McMullen attended Kinsman Business University and worked as an accountant in the hospital industry.

Also in Idaho, she lived in Moscow and Coeur d'Alene before moving to Sequim.

The McMullens enjoyed traveling and entertaining, interests they combined in hosting Scandinavian exchange students during their years as faculty at the University of Idaho.

Mrs. McMullen enjoyed the outdoors, especially Glacier National Park.

She attended Sequim Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband and her brother, Glenn Nogle, of Spokane.

Services: Aug. 13, 11 a.m., memorial in Sequim Presbyterian Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave. Olympic Cremation Association is in charge of arrangements.

William Charles Owens

June 9, 1938 -- July 30, 2004

William Charles Owens died in Port Angeles of pneumonia following a long illness. He was 66.

He was born in Tacoma to Bill Lionell and Marie Rose (Nigro) Owens.

He was in the Navy in 1955-57, serving at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego.

He married Barbara Sue Gallauher in Port Angeles in July 3, 1959.

Mr. Owens was a millworker at Peninsula Plywood for 20 years, until his 1979 retirement.

His pastimes included listening to his stereo, camping and fishing.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, sons Jeffrey Owens and Timothy Owens and daughter Dana Eyl, all of Port Angeles; sister Elaine Freed of Gig Harbor; and eight grandchildren.

Services: Saturday, Aug. 7, 1 p.m., memorial in Bible Holiness Church, 920 W. 16th St., Port Angeles. Ron Gallauher will officiate. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William G. Flynn

Feb. 22, 1931 -- July 30, 2004

Port Townsend-born William G. Flynn died in Covington County Hospital, Collins, Miss., at age 73.

The son of Robert and Mildred Flynn, he spent 20 years on active duty with Air Force, including Korean War service.

Later, he retired from Petal (Miss.) School District with 22 years as a teacher and coach.

Survivors include his wife, the former Lela ``Geneva" Johnson, two sons, his mother, three sisters and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, and a son, Mike.

Services: Services were held Monday at Moore Funeral Home, Petal, Miss. Interment in Shady Grove cemetery, Jones County, Miss.

E. Fraser MacLean

Dec. 3, 1923 -- July 29, 2004

E. Fraser MacLean of Port Townsend died at age 80, after a brief illness.

He was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, to Elmer and Sadie (McLellan) MacLean, and grew up in Pontiac, Mich.

In his early 20s, he moved to California, where he worked in the aerospace industry and was the official photographer for the Santa Monica Rugby Club.

Mr. MacLean later became chief photographer for the Daily Dispatch in East London, South Africa, where his 1977 picture of anti-apartheid leader Stephen Biko was distributed worldwide.

He married Barbara Price Hutmacher in East London in 1977.

The couple moved to Leavenworth in 1981 and to Port Townsend in 1999.

Mr. MacLean was a volunteer for the Wooden Boat Foundation in Port Townsend. In addition to building boats and sailing, he enjoyed surfing, racing motorcycles and raising his dogs.

Survivors include his wife and daughter and son-in-law Beth Hutmacher and Joseph Gondar, all of Port Townsend; daughter and son-in-law Jessica and Bill Schneider of Gig Harbor; daughters Kasey Tyler of Los Angeles and Cary Bayley of Houston; sons and daughters-in-law David and Tucker Hutmacher of Atlanta and Lt. Col. Clay and Amy Hutmacher of Geibelstadt, Germany; brother Bob MacLean of Brookings, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Shirley MacLean and sister Nancy McKenzie, all of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brother Douglas MacLean.

Services: Private memorial was held Aug. 1 at Kala Point Clubhouse. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, was in charge.

John J. `Putts' Nedelka

Jan. 10, 1922 -- July 31, 2004

Sequim resident John J. ``Putts" Nedelka died in Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center of complications from a stroke at age 82.

He was born to John and Anna Nedelka in North Chicago, Ill., which remained his home until 1986, when he retired from North Chicago Community High School and moved to Sequim.

In 1942-45, Mr. Nedelka was a member of the Army's 1st Division, serving in Sicily, North Africa and Northern France, as well as participating in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Mr. Nedelka received both the Bronze Battle Star and Silver Star.

He married Virginia Simicich in North Chicago on Oct. 10, 1959.

Mr. Nedelka was an avid golfer who also enjoyed fishing and watching his grandchildren's activities.

In addition to belonging to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sequim, Mr. Nedelka was a member of Kranjsko Slovenska Katoliska Jednota (American Slovenian Catholic Union) and a past president of Slovenic Hall.

Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters-in-law John and Leszlie Nedelka of Ardmore, Okla., Michael and Darlene Nedelka of Wadsworth, Ill., and Steven and Catherine Nedelka of Gurnee, Ill.; brothers Cal Nedelka and Steven Nedelka; sisters Francis Kapa of North Chicago, Ill., and Katherine Marinelli of Kenosha, Wis.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters Ann Nedelka, Betty Buck and Mary Bodame.

Services: Wednesday, Aug. 4, 11 a.m., funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 121 E Maple St., Sequim. The Rev. Thomas W. Beattie will preside.

Burial will be in Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, Ill. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Charity of choice.

Josephine S. `Jo' Snow

July 20, 1930 -- July 28, 2004

Port Hadlock resident Josephine S. ``Jo" Snow died of cancer in Port Townsend surrounded by family members. She was 74.

She was born to Dwight T. and Lillian Spencer in Washington, D.C. Her mother died at the birth, so she was raised by her father and stepmother.

After graduating from high school in 1948, she was employed by the Internal Revenue Service.

She married Gerald Snow in Washington, D.C., in 1950. They raised five children while living in Keene, N.H., and Manassas Park, Va., before divorcing.

She went to work for a jewelry firm for which she became a manager and met Richard ``Dick" O'Connor, who became her business partner, in 1976.

They married in Port Townsend on Aug. 21, 1987.

They bought their jewelry store, J&D's, on Taylor Street and made their home in Port Hadlock.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Brenda Kane, both of Port Townsend, Ms. Snow is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Robyne and Marc Gensel of Frederick, Md., and Julie and Michael Marshal of Port Hadlock; daughter Tina Worley of Fairfax, Va.; stepdaughters Susan Curtis of Washington, D.C., and Nancy Wolfe of Syracuse, N.Y.; daughter-in-law Pat Barnstable of New Hampshire; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Son Kenith Snow died in 1985, and one brother and one sister preceded her in death.

Services: None. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend is in charge of burial.

Memorials: American Cancer Society, 2120 First Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109.
