JOHN `BUD' WILLSON
With his children by his side, Bud Willson, 81, died peacefully on October 30th at RN Homecare in Sequim.
He will be remembered as a strong, gentle, charming man with a smile that could light up a room.
He was born in Port Angeles on March 20, 1923, and made his home on the Olympic Peninsula.
Bud is survived by his wife, Doris ``Dee" Willson, who resides in Sequim at Dungeness Courte; his three daughters, Kat, Carolyn and Jane; his son, John; and his two grandchildren, Michelle and Kathy.
After serving in both the Navy and the Coast Guard, he completed his Bachelor's at the University of Washington. He then returned home to operate Willson Hardware with his brother, Charlie, and sister, Marie.
After his business career, Bud returned to a life aboard ship, working with Foss Tug for the next 20 years.
He was a deacon and longstanding member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of Kiwanis, assisted with Meals on Wheels for Seniors, and helped Rose and Raleigh of Hospice by delivering home-healthcare equipment.
The family will be having a private gathering at Dungeness Courte this Friday.
They are inviting the Port Angeles community to attend an informal Memorial Gathering at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Social Hall at the First Presbyterian Church in Port Angeles at 139 W. Eighth St.
Refreshments will be served.
BILL G. ANNIS
Beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend Bill G. Annis died Nov. 1, 2004.
Mr. Annis was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marlys A. Annis, in 2000.
Those grieving Mr. Annis are his sister, Janet Tiller; sons William W. Annis, Timothy D. Annis and wife Dawn M. Annis; daughters Christine F. Bromley and husband George H. Bromley; Carol Madan; and his dear friend, Inez Main.
Mr. Annis left behind his granddaughters, Angie M. Doan and husband Mike Doan, Elisha M. Annis, Sheri D. Pate and Pam Quaadman; and grandsons John W. Annis, Eric J. Mulvahill and wife Bev Mulvahill, and Scott Madan.
Mr. Annis had five great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons.
Bill loved to spend the day driving around the Northwest, camping and spending time at his home visiting and laughing.
Many things will be missed about Bill, especially his laughter, generosity and love. Bill will be remembered always in our hearts.
In memorial, please make a donation to Hospice of Clallam County, as in his final days he was made comfortable at home by family and dear friends with the help of the Hospice team.
Joseph H. Paulin
Nov. 27, 1927 -- Oct. 29, 2004
Port Angeles resident Joseph H. Paulin died at age 76.
He was born in Greenfield, Mass., to Henry S. and Sally L. (Brissette) Paulin.
During World War II, he served in the Navy as a seaman second class.
He married
Barbara A. Phillips on Jan. 18, 1948.
Mr. Paulin worked for ITT Rayonier in Port Angeles in 1960-78, after which he owned and operated Paulin's Fire Extinguishers until 1989.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Masonic Blue Lodge in Port Angeles and Scottish Rite, 32nd degree, in Bremerton.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter and son-in-law Cindy Paulin and Mike Libera of Port Angeles; son Wayne Paulin of Seattle; son and daughter-in-law Dean and Deanna Paulin of Mount Vernon; stepmother N. Louise Paulin and brother David Paulin, both of Greenfield, Mass.; sisters Jeanne Lindley of Alaska, Judy Swanson of East Grandby, Conn., and Shirley Wooldridge, Dora Johnson, Donna Willenberg, all of Port Angeles; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by son, Gary Paulin, his father, mother Sally Jones, stepfather James C. Jones, and brother James A. Jones.

John Harrison Willson
March 20, 1923 -- Oct. 30, 2004
Port Angeles native John Harrison Willson died in Sequim at age 81.

Viola D. Baskett
Feb. 21, 1902 -- Oct. 23, 2004
Irondale resident Viola D. Baskett died in Jefferson Healthcare, the hospital in Port Townsend. She was 102.
She was born to Thomas Henry and Cora Lea (Anderson) Sparks in Desdemona, Texas.
She married
James Bryan Baskett in Desdemona on May 28, 1922.
Embracing the pioneer lifestyle, she spent many years working as a truck driver and mess hall cook for a logging company in Alberta.
In 1943, she settled in Seattle to finish raising her family.
Mrs. Baskett enjoyed gardening and the needlecrafts of tatting and crocheting,
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law James and Sharon Baskett of Irondale, Kennard and Reva Baskett of Port Hadlock and Edward and Elaine Baskett of Auburn; daughter Ethel Schneider of Kalama; daughter and son-in-law Gladys and Tommy Williams of Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Baskett's husband died Jan. 6, 1958.
Services: Memorial was held Oct. 30 at Kosec Funeral Home in Port Townsend and followed by a reception at the Elks Lodge. She was buried on Sunday, Oct. 31, next to her husband at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac.
Eugene W. Born
March 30, 1909 -- Oct. 29, 2004
Sequim resident Eugene W. Born, 95, died of cancer in Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Crowley, Texas, to James Knox Polk and Michia (Talley) Born.
He married
Larue Isbell Miller in Yakima on Sept. 4, 1931.
Mr. Born completed two years of business college and worked as a bookkeeper and office manager in Yakima before becoming a fruit rancher in Sunnyside for 17 years.
When he retired to Sequim in 1968, he started specializing in fruit grafting with an experimental orchard.
Mr. Born, who was known as the ``Harmonica Man, " won many awards in harmonica contests. He and his wife performed together across the Peninsula at Granges, churches and private clubs as well as retirement and assisted-living homes.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and in Yakima was a member of the Sportsman Association.
He belonged to the Yakima Camarada Club, an all-male chorus.
On the Peninsula, he was a member of the Port Angeles Camera Club and the Church of God in Sequim.
Mr. Born's survivors include his wife of 73 years and son, Glenn, both of Sequim; son Kenneth of Olympia; six grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Peyton and Paul and sisters Ruth Harper and Grace Kendall.
Services: Friday, Nov. 5, 11 a.m. memorial and reception in the Church of God, 503 N. Brown Road, Sequim. Pastor Dennis Ackley will officiate. There was cremation, with Drennan-Ford Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert Loren `Bob' Burk Sr.
Jan. 29, 1918 -- Oct. 30, 2004
Robert Loren ``Bob" Burk, Sr., died of cancer in his Port Angeles home. He was 86.
He was born in Port Orchard to Andrew Vincent and Marie (O'Neal) Burk, and grew up on the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas, where he attended schools before going to St. Martin's College in Lacey.
Mr. Burk married
Barbara Gertrude Chernut in Temple, Texas, on June 5, 1943.
As a first lieutenant with the Army's artillery during World War II, he served from April 15, 1943, to April 5, 1946. Lt. Burk landed on Okinawa with the first wave of U.S. forces.
After the war, Mr. Burk returned to Port Angeles, while he raised his family, and worked in construction on Indian Island.
He then moved to Oregon for several years as an instructor at Oregon Institute of Technology.
He returned to Port Angeles and took over ownership and operation, with his brothers Jim and Ray, of Habit Cleaners from their parents.
Eventually he bought out his brothers and continued the business with his wife until their retirement in 1990. He was a member of the American Institute of Dry-cleaning.
In addition to being an author and published poet, Mr. Burk was instrumental in the design and creation of the Port Angeles Senior Center.
He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Elks Naval Lodge and Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife, daughter Kathleen Hussey and son Lawrence Burk, all of Port Angeles; son Robert Burk Jr. of Tacoma; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers James and Raymond Burk, and one grandson.

Wanda M. Church
March 25, 1925 -- Oct. 31, 2004
Wanda M. Church died of cancer in her Sequim home at age 79.
She was born in Mitchell, S.D., to Isaac Newton and Mabel Etta (Cunning) Trent.
She married
Robert Church in San Diego on Aug. 30, 1943.
Mrs. Church was a homemaker in Tacoma before moving to Sequim 26 years ago.
She was a member of Ladies of Elks and the Christian Church.
In addition to her husband and daughter Darlene Karen Kotas, both of Sequim, survivors include daughter Arlene Sharon Klein of Edgewood; son Robert Church Jr. of Spanaway; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Services: Private memorial in Tacoma. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge.
Isabel Lohr
April 7, 1919 -- Oct. 31, 2004
Isabel Lohr died in Port Angeles at age 85.

Jack A. Morse
June 24, 1920 -- Nov. 1, 2004
Sequim resident Jack A. Morse died peacefully in the presence of his family of complications from a broken hip. He was 84.
He was born in Kelso to Albert and Bernice Morse.
He married
Lorraine M. Lowry, who died June 10, 1996.
Mr. Morse completed eight years of formal schooling.
During World War II, he was a member of the Navy's submarine service.
He was a logger for 50 years on the Peninsula.
Survivors include his sons, James Morse of Minnesota, Eric Morse of Puyallup and William Hamilton of Hoodsport; daughters Roberta Jepson of Mountlake Terrace and Virginia Frank of Quilcene; brother Colby Morse of Roseburg, Ore.; sister Patty Morse of Kelso; 12 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by son Richard and brothers Harold, Dennis and Dick.
Services: The family's private memorial will be followed by an open community service that will be announced later.
