John R. Hyland
March 1, 1942 -- Oct. 26, 2004
Sequim resident John R. Hyland died of cancer at age 62.
He was born in Moscow, Idaho, to Richard A. and Elsie Louise (Larsen) Hyland.
He earned his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of the Cal Straw Band.
Mr. Hyland worked for Procter & Gamble as an engineer with production planning in California for 30 years before retiring to Sequim.
Until the time of his death, he was a postal clerk at the Carlsborg post office
Mr. Hyland enjoyed plowing the fields aboard his Kubota tractor at Happy Valley Tall Dog Stables, and caring for his horses, chickens, rabbits, ducks, goat Bonnie, dogs Charlie and Jerry and cats Binky Baby and Cali-Lou.
He served on the Highland Hills Maintenance Commission as secretary and as editor of The Highlander newsletter.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Moulton; stepdaughters Meredith Moulton of Sammamish and Leslie Moulton at University of Tennessee, Knoxville; his father, Richard, of Vallejo, Calif.; and brother William Hyland of Campbell, Calif.
Services: None at this time. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, was in charge of cremation.
Barbara H. Meininger
April 13, 1918 -- Nov. 5, 2004
Barbara H. Meininger died in Port Angeles.

Alice R. Roberts
June 24, 1941 -- Nov. 3, 2004
Port Angeles resident Alice R. Roberts died of heart failure in St. Joseph Heart Center, Tacoma. She was 63.
She was born in Lekhart, Ind., to Wiley B. and Emiline A. (Thomlinson) Embry.
She married
Edward A. Roberts in Fort Benning, Ga., on Dec. 9, 1958. He died April 17, 2002.
Mrs. Roberts, who graduated from Peninsula College at age 62, worked as a medical assistant.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Lighthouse Christian Center and choir of Women's Aglow.
Mrs. Roberts was survived by sons Terry L. Roberts, Lonnie E. Roberts of Huntsville, Ala., and Gregory C. Roberts of Port Angeles; brothers and sister-in-law Ronald and Sherley Embry of South Carolina and Wiley and Jal Embry of Indiana; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sister June Boze.
Services: Monday, Nov. 8, 11 a.m., memorial in Lighthouse Christian Center, 304 Viewcrest St., Port Angeles. Burial will be in Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 SE 24th St., Kent. Steve Cady Cremation Services, King County, is in charge.

KENNETH M. `KENNY' WALDRON
July 21, 1942-Nov. 2, 2004
Port Angeles resident Kenneth M. ``Kenny" Waldron died of emphysema at age 62.
He was born in Port Angeles to Arthur and Evelyn M. (McCaskey) Waldron.
He served in the Army in 1962-64.
Mr. Waldron lived in Forks for 10 years, where he was a truck mechanic for Allen Logging before moving to Port Angeles.
He enjoyed traveling to Arizona as a vendor at rodeos, festivals, pow-wows and chili cookoffs.
He enjoyed animals of all kinds and especially loved Tweety, a bird he rescued from the wild when it was a baby and taught to talk.
Mr. Waldron is survived by his mother, Evelyn Waldron of Port Angeles; sons Kenny Waldron of Las Vegas and Lyle Waldron of Portland, Ore.; sister Karen Kreger of Sequim; and four grandchildren.
Services were Friday, Nov. 5, with visitation in Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles, and graveside committal in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles. Family members officiated.

John D. Barello
Jan. 1, 1922 -- Nov. 1, 2004
John D. Barello died of heart failure in his Sequim home at age 82.
He was born in Leechburg, Pa., to Mario and Marie A. (Vallino) Barello.
While with the Marine Corps, he was one of the first servicemen to enter Japan after the atomic bombs were dropped near the end of World War II.
In addition to war duty in the South Pacific, Mr. Barcello served during the Korean War. He advanced to master sergeant.
Following service, he was a purchasing manager for Atlas Casting in Tacoma. He also worked for Atlas Foundry.
Mr. Barello, who was a member of Elks and of Tacoma Yacht Club, enjoyed boating in the San Juan Islands, recreational vehicle traveling and golfing.
He married
Arlee B. Rutila in Tacoma on Sept. 22, 1950.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son John R. Barello of Tacoma; stepson David M. Husby of Pacific Grove, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by sister Lillian A. Olinger.
Services: None. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Sterling Harbord
March 31, 1919 -- Nov. 1, 2004
Robert Sterling Harbord died in Sequim from complications due to Parkinson's disease. He was 85.
He was born in Tacoma to Harry and Aurela (Rounds) Harbord.
During World War II, Mr. Harbord was part of the Army Air Corps. Rebuilding and flying antique airplanes became his hobby.
He retired from 28 years employment with the Boeing Co.
His first marriage was to Lois Strombo, who is deceased.
His wife, the former Lorraine Harris, survives him, as do daughters Karen Storkel and Susan Bevan; stepsons James and Dennis Keithley, stepdaughter Judith Caraher, brother Geoffrey Harbord; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

AUDREY OLIVIA TRABAND
June 10, 1925 - Sept. 13, 2004
Audrey Olivia Traband died at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle of complications from lung cancer at age 79.
Mrs. Traband was born to Edgar and Jessie Calland in Wallacy, Cheshire, England.
She attended school in Wallacy until the age of 18, then joined the WAAF branch of the Royal Air Force in 1943. She served as a radio operator at airfields in the south of England, and later served in the Middle East.
While stationed in England, Olivia met Joseph Traband, who she married
in 1947. They settled in Wood River, Illinois, and moved to Port Angeles in 1952 as the countryside and climate here are similar to that of England.
Olivia loved to garden and raise various animals, of which goats were her favorite. She was active in the Emergency Services as a ham radio operator and volunteered time answering calls on the crisis line.
Survivors include sons David of Rochester, Wash.; Michael of Port Angeles; and daughters Angela of Olympia, Wash.; and Vicki of Port Angeles, and six grandchildren.
Olivia was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1992.
At Olivia's request there will be no services.

Richard Burton Demorest died in Port Angeles at age 63.

James William Willis
June 14, 1933 -- Nov. 1, 2004
Port Angeles resident James William Willis died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, at age 71.
He was born in Huntsville, Ala., to Albert Samuel and Eunice Mae (Hendrix) Willis.
He married
Beatrice M. Lane in California on June 22, 1967.
In 1968, he became a member of Unity School of Christianity.
He graduated from La Verne College in California, then did additional work at Associated Colleges of Claremont, Calif., and Grand Canyon College, Ariz.
Mr. Willis' lifelong interest in children was reflected in his career as a fourth-grade schoolteacher. He also worked as a library technician and office products salesman.
Mr. Willis lived in Pomona and Santa Barbara, both in California, before moving to Port Angeles.
Survivors include his wife of more than 37 years.
Services: At his request, none. His ashes will be scattered at sea.
