Barbara Marie Thompson
Feb. 27, 1931 -- Nov. 7, 2004
Barbara Marie Thompson died in her Port Townsend home at age 73.
She was born to George H. and Margaret A. (Burns) Gray in Fall River, Mass.
She married
Francis Mangan in Fall River in 1951. They later divorced.
After spending time in Europe in the 1950s, Mrs. Thompson came in 1960 to Port Townsend, where she was a bartender in such establishments as the Wagon Wheel, Delmonico and Hilltop taverns and Highway Twenty Roadhouse Cafe.
Her favorite slogan: She was the ``hostess with the mostest."
Mrs. Thompson, who was known for her gentle disposition and sharp New England wit, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and pets.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Dale T. and Vicki L. Gray of Olympia; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
Services: Sunday, Nov. 14, 3 p.m., memorial in Highway Twenty Roadhouse Cafe, 2152 W. Sims Way, Port Townsend. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Barbara Jean White
Jan. 13, 1935 -- Nov. 8, 2004
Barbara Jean White died in her Sequim home at age 69.
She was born in Longview, Texas, to Mance Ervin and Rose Mae (Teague) Moore.
She completed two years of college.
She married
Roger White in Sequim on Jan. 1, 2000.
In addition to her husband, daughter Deborah Sue Rawlins and mother, all of Sequim, Mrs. White's survivors include stepdaughter Cheryle Ann of California; stepsons Harold Mansperger of Oregon and Darrell Mansperger of Pennsylvania; one grandson and two stepgrandchildren.
Services: Sunday, Nov. 14, 2:30 p.m., Church of Christ, 1233 E. Front St., Port Angeles. Ministers Jerry Dean, Timothy Hockett and Dennis Niva will officiate. Burial at Sequim View cemetery. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Jeanne Williams
Oct. 18, 1923 -- Nov. 8, 2004
Homemaker Nancy Jeanne Williams died in Sequim at age 81.
She was born in Fall City, Ore., to Albert Grant and Mary Virginia (Dempsey) Adams.
She married
Thomas James Williams on July 27, 1956. He died Nov. 18, 1985.
Mrs. Williams enjoyed gardening and was a member of Elks and Eagles lodges as well as Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
She is survived by daughters Patricia J. Hansen of Patterson, Ga., and Kathleen Stephens of El Cajon, Calif.

Francis X. De Fonce
Dec. 15, 1933 -- Nov. 5, 2004
Francis X. De Fonce died of prostate cancer in his Sequim home. He was 70.
He was born to Frank X. and Marie (Ondik) De Fonce in Jersey City, N.J.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y.
A 20-year veteran of the Air Force, Mr. De Fonce served in 1954-74 -- during both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He enjoyed making people laugh, and pursued his interest in singing, dancing and acting after retiring to Sequim.
He married
Elizabeth Lozano in Montgomery, Ala., on Dec. 7, 1963. They divorced in 1984.
He is survived by son Christopher J. De Fonce of Mission Viejo, Calif., and three grandchildren.
Services: None. Neptune Society, Lynnwood, was in charge of cremation.
Lois A. Foster
June 29, 1927 -- Nov. 5, 2004
Port Townsend resident Lois A. Foster died of a stroke. She was 77.
Born in Marion, Ind., to Lawrence and Frances (Vickerman) Amack, she grew up in Evanston, Ill., where she graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1944.
She was employed at University of California, Riverside, and earned her bachelor's degree in English from California State University, Dominguez Hills, in 1972.
While married
, she raised her family in Riverside, Calif. After divorcing in 1974, she returned to Evanston, where she began a 19-year career with the federal government.
Mrs. Foster transferred to Seattle in 1990 to be near her children and their families.
She was recognized for her contributions to development of Native job programs in Alaska.
In 1994, she moved to Port Townsend and was active as a volunteer with Jefferson Healthcare hospital. She enjoyed visiting the Rose Theatre as well as attending musicals and plays.
After retirement, Mrs. Foster traveled to China and Ireland as well as throughout the United States.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Scott D. and Mary Q. Foster of Port Townsend; Tim F. and Laura J. Foster of Albany, Ore.; and Bryan E. and Sandra K. Foster of Albany, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law Lester and Lois Amack and brother Lance David Amack, all of Chicago, and sister-in-law Mary Ruth Amack of Seattle.
She was preceded in death by brother Lawrence Amack.

Vernon Kiele
Nov. 2, 1933 -- Nov. 3, 2004
Vernon Kiele, former manager of Port Angeles Telecable, died in Yuma, Ariz., of complications of cancer. He was 71.
Born in Kooskia, Idaho, to Wilhelm and Golden (Crocker) Kiele, he married
Allene Boggs in Port Angeles on Dec. 21, 1956.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Carole Kiele, daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Steve Napiontek, mother Golden Lindell and sisters Lorraine Main and Leann Fraser, all of Port Angeles; brother Bob Kiele of Port Orchard; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
His wife died in 1999.

Cleon T. McClain
Aug. 7, 1942 -- Nov. 4, 2004
Former Peninsula resident Cleon T. McClain died of cancer in his Indianola home. He was 62.
Born in Houston to Alonzo and Dossie (Modisette) McClain, he grew up in the Air Force community at Neah Bay. He graduated from Neah Bay High School in 1960.
After two years at Peninsula College, he served in the Army for three years, which included duty in Germany.
Back in Washington, he spent two years at Western Washington University, Bellingham, and earned his bachelor's degree in education.
Mr. McClain's first teaching post was in Sequim. He stayed there 10 years, almost through the 1970s, before moving to Central Kitsap School District
After 27 years as a teacher, he retired in 1997 with medical disability.
While attending Peninsula College, he met Phyllis McDonald. They were both in the school's first graduating class and married
in Port Angeles in 1964. They divorced in 1973.
He married
Susan B. Armstrong in Seattle on June 18, 1976.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McClain's survivors include son and daughter-in-law Geoffrey and Amy McClain; daughter and son-in-law Monica and Clay Blackwood of Port Ludlow; daughter Brenda McClain of Metaline Falls; mother; sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Daryl Broadhurst of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and two grandchildren.
His father died in 1973. He was also preceded in death by brother Dannie McClain.
Services: Wednesday, Nov. 10, 4:30 p.m., memorial in United Church of Christ, 18732 Division Ave., Suquamish. Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Dietz Hall Meininger
April 13, 1918 -- Nov. 5, 2004
Barbara Dietz Hall Meininger died in Port Angeles Care Center at age 86.
She was born to Randall and Willa Hall in Groton, S.D., where she spent her childhood.
She married
Leland E. Meininger in August 1940.
She graduated from Lincoln General School of Nursing at the University of Nebraska and was a registered nurse for 50 years.
She was noted for her gardens, meals she cooked, her artwork, writings and animal care.
Survivors include daughters Linda Pierce LeVia and Letitia Flynt of Port Angeles; son Charles Meininger of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 54 years died in 1995.
Services: Nov. 24, 4 p.m., memorial at 505 W. 12th St., Port Angeles. Her ashes will be buried beside her late husband in Tullahoma, Tenn.

Grace W. Miller
Feb. 2, 1915 -- Nov. 6, 2004
Grace W. Miller died in her Port Townsend home at age 89.
She was born in Blaine to Samuel and Daisy (Randall) Walmsley.
She is survived by her husband, George White Miller, of Port Townsend and son Randall Miller of Florida.

ROBERT JOSEPH LEDUC
June 12, 1932-November 2, 2004
Joyce resident Robert LeDuc passed away at the age of 72 at his home, ending his battle with cancer. His wife and three children were at his side.
Born to Antoine and Mary (Kennison) LeDuc in Port Angeles, Washington, June 12, 1932. A 1950 graduate of Port Angeles High School. On December 29, 1962, he married
Barbara Ivy Stenberg of Key West, Florida.
In November of 1951, Mr. LeDuc enlisted in the United States Navy and became an Electrician's Mate. Before his retirement from the Navy in August of 1977, he had obtained the highest enlisted rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.
He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded four Vietnam service medals.
During Mr. LeDuc's military career, he served aboard six United States Navy ships, including the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. His many duty stations included Key West, Florida, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Alameda and Santa Rosa, California.
After Mr. LeDuc's retirement from the United States Navy, he, his wife, Barbara, son Bennett and mother-in-law Flora Stenberg moved to Joyce, Washington, to build the home he would live in for the next 27 years.
Mr. LeDuc was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, clam digger and gardener. He held a deep love and respect for all things natural, and was always eager to share his passion for the beautiful Washington outdoors.
He was a very loving and devoted husband to his surviving wife, Barbara, and a loving and devoted father to his sons, Dean of San Diego, California, and Bennett of Joyce, and daughter, Deborah of Rohnert Park, California.
Mr. LeDuc is also survived by brother-in-law Malcolm Nickerson of Boise, Idaho, eight grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Genevieve Nickerson of Boise, Idaho, and Norma Hudon of Port Angeles. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Carl, and mother-in-law, Flora Stenberg.
Mr. LeDuc was a member of the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve, the National Rifle Association, the Washington Arms Collectors and the Pacific Northwest Shooting Park Association.
At his request, no services will be held. Cremation arranged by Drennan-Ford Funeral Home of Port Angeles.
