Tryllis Myrle Rice
Nov. 10, 1923 -- Nov. 23, 2004
Tryllis Myrle Rice died of cancer in her Port Ludlow home at age 81.
Born to Raymond Filmore and Hazel Myrle (Bell) Howard in Osakis, Minn., where she graduated from school, she spent many summers at her grandmother's farm in Princeton, Minn.
She moved to Minneapolis, then to California, to work in the defense industry during World War II.
After she married
Danny Vernon Rice on June 20, 1944, she moved back to Minnesota and adopted two children.
Mrs. Rice moved to Edmonds in 1962, and owned and operated Accent Design Interiors in Edmonds from 1973 to 1986.
She retired to Gardiner in 1986 and moved to Port Ludlow in 1995.
Mrs. Rice, who was a skilled cook and seamstress, enjoyed nature, including gardening, flowers, animals and birds.
She was Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and, while a businesswoman, active with the Soroptimist Club.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Kim Reynold and Devona Irene Rice of Sumner; daughter Beth Myrle Rice of Port Ludlow; brothers and sisters-in-law Reynold and Dema Howard of Edmonds and Harold and Delores Howard of Spokane; and three granddaughters.
Her husband died Sept. 14, 1996.
Services: Sunday, Dec. 5, 1:30 p.m., graveside memorial in Gardiner cemetery. Gary Howard will officiate.
A celebration of life will follow in Snug Harbor Cafe, Discovery Bay, at 4:30 p.m. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.

Port Angeles resident Thomas Micheal Snarski died at age 47.

HELEN MAY UNDERWOOD
May 5, 1922-Nov. 24, 2004
Helen May Underwood, age 82, passed away quietly at Olympic Medical Center on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, in Port Angeles, Washington.
May is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Russell Underwood Jr. and Earlene of Sequim, Washington; daughter Judy Underwood of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Jerry Urling of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Richard VanLuven of Dunsmuir, California; and daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Jay McDaniel of Wasilla, Alaska.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Conni, Lisa, Bill, Debi, Roxy, Curt, Kim, Ahltor, Ahrgone, Azuron, Leigh, Reed and Ivy.
Twelve surviving great-grandchildren are Jeff, Colby, Samantha, Bo, Kayla, Tanya, Audrian, Alec, Ian, Dusten, Zachary and Siliva.
May was born in Seattle, Washington, to Thorvald and Finis Elsethagen on May 5, 1922.
She was married
to Russell F. Underwood in Missoula, Montana, on January 1, 1939.
May and her husband arrived in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1951 and resided there until 1970.
After traveling the country, May and Russell settled in the Sequim area in 1972, where they enjoyed the rest of their lives on the beautiful Pacific coast.
May was preceded in death by Russell, her husband of 47 years, in 1986.
There will be no services, at her request. The Sequim Valley Chapel fulfilled her final wishes.
Robert S. Brown
March 7, 1915 -- Nov. 24, 2004
Robert S. Brown died in Sequim at age 89.

Katheryn Murphy

Katheryn Murphy died in Sequim at age 96.

Stephen Henry Blenk
Feb. 28, 1956 -- Nov. 24, 2004
Services will be held Monday for Sequim resident Stephen Henry Blenk, who died in a collision Wednesday on U.S. Highway 101 between Port Angeles and Sequim.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 29, at 1 p.m., in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim.

Bernice Tedrow
Nov. 21, 1914 -- Nov. 25, 2004
A few days after her 90th birthday, Bernice Tedrow died in Port Angeles, the town in which she was born and married
LeLand Tedrow.
Mrs. Tedrow is survived by daughter Beverly Neuroth of Ankeny, Iowa; brother Stan Estes of Port Angeles; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Her husband died Feb. 24, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Services: Private family services. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of burial.
Mary C. Van Wald
April 19, 1924 -- Nov. 18, 2004
Port Angeles resident Mary C. Van Wald died in her sleep at Dungeness Courte, Sequim, with her husband of 57 years at bedside.
She was born in Spokane to Elwin A. and Alpha (Mahar) Cole and attended Mary Cliff High School.
She married
Edward H. Van Wald in Thompson Falls, Mont., on Sept. 4, 1948.
The Van Walds lived in Spokane for many years during which she and her husband were active members of the Shrine. She was a past president of the Ladies Oriental Shrine at El Katif Temple.
In 1970, she and her family moved to Port Angeles, where she and her daughters operated the hamburger Snak Shack on Ediz Hook next to the Coast Guard station. She also operated a women's boutique in Port Angeles.
Mrs. Van Wald's survivors include her husband; daughters and sons-in-law Pamela and Kevin Pursley and Laurie and Howard Shipley of Port Angeles, and Carolyn and Ralph Mays of California; brother Roger W. Cole of Spokane; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Gary Van Wald.

Elizabeth B. `Bonnie' Vereide
Dec. 27, 1924 -- Nov. 25, 2004
Sequim resident Elizabeth B. ``Bonnie" Vereide died in Olympic Memorial Hospital of congestive heart failure at age 79.
She was born in Lewisburg, Pa., to Marion S. and Deborah (Jones) Bonneville and grew up in Philadelphia.
After graduating from Wilson College in Pennsylvania, she earned her Bachelor of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey.
She married
seminary classmate Milton B. Vereide in Lansdowne, Pa., on June 18, 1949.
The Vereides were in ministry together -- he as minister and she as a missionary teacher -- first in Yakima, then in the Philippines for nine years.
The couple then lived in New Jersey, Ohio, Canada and, in 1997, Sequim.
Mrs. Vereide was a member of the International Ministerial Association and Grace Covenant Fellowship in Sequim.
Survivors include her husband; sons and daughters-in-law Nathan and Cindy Vereide of Sequim, Milton and Diane Vereide Jr. of Issaquah, Tim and Connie Vereide of Wasilla, Alaska, and Chris and Leslie Vereide of Vienna, Va.; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Kevin Aughtry of Fort St. John, British Columbia; sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Thomas Cross of Texas; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Tuesday, Nov. 30, 6 p.m., memorial in Sequim Valley Foursquare Church, 9090 Old Olympic Highway. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the service.

MURIEL `MIKE' DAGGETT OLSEN
Muriel ``Mike" Daggett Olsen died November 19, 2004, at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton after a brief illness.
``Mike" was born October 10, 1922, in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Bertha Toske and James Daggett.
She graduated from Saugus (Mass.) High School in 1939 and Fisher Business School (now Fisher College) in 1940.
She enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard (SPAR) in 1943, with basic training at Hunter College, New York City. Her duty station was USCG HQ, Alaska Building, Seattle, where she served as a storekeeper for two years. She moved to Bainbridge Island in 1952 and to Poulsbo in 2000.
Olsen graduated from Olympic College in 1977, and worked from then until 1984 as secretary and bookkeeper at the Bloedel Reserve, Bainbridge Island.
She was a past commander at American Legion Post 172, Winslow, and was also involved in Legion Auxiliary Post 245, Poulsbo, as well as Navy League and Sons of Norway.
She is survived by her sons, James Springer of Suquamish, Roy Springer and his wife, Kathy, of Hermiston, Oregon, and Charles Olsen of Port Orchard.
She also leaves two grandsons, Steven Springer of Oak Harbor and his wife, Brenda, and Mark Olsen of Issaquah; also two great-grandchildren, Steel and Sierra Springer; and a niece, Daryll Wasson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Olsen, and her sister, Evelyn Donnelly.
Her burial will be at 10 a.m. December 3 at Crown Hill cemetery in Seattle with arrangements by Miller-Woodlawn of Bremerton. Religious memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Port Gamble.
There will also be a memorial reception from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, December 4, at the Legion Hall of Post 172, 7880 Bucklin Hill Road, Bainbridge Island.
Donations may be made in her name to military relief efforts, to the Seattle Fishermen's Memorial, or to the American Cancer Society.
RALPH L. ROWLAND
Ralph L. Rowland, 84, passed away Monday, November 8, 2004.
He was born January 25, 1920, in Tekoa, Washington, to Marjorie and Lyman Rowland.
When Ralph was 2 years old, they moved to Port Angeles, where he grew up.
He married
his wife, Eleanor A. Rowland, in 1940. They moved to Tacoma, Washington, in 1942, where he worked in the shipyards during World War II. Later, he worked as a paper maker.
Ralph's family said that in 1953 they started square dancing and he loved it, and began calling dances as a hobby. He called and taught square dancing for 43 years.
Ralph and Eleanor built their own square dance hall in Tacoma. He retired in 1988, they sold their hall and traveled full time for three years.
In 1991, they built their home in Lake Havasu City where he loved hiking, fishing and boating. His family said that they danced with the London Bridge Squares.
He loved to travel in his motor home and go on cruises.
He was a member of St. Michael's United Methodist Church, the London Bridge Squares Dance Club, and Rainier Teachers Callers Organization in Tacoma.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eleanor A. Rowland of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; daughters Patricia (Duane) O'Ravez of Idaho, Marilyn (Stan) Koren of Lake Havasu and Pamela (Berry) Ayle of Long Beach, California; grandchildren David (Tami) O'Ravez, Lisa (Barry) Gillingham, Michelle Gomes, Stewart (Michele) Rowland, Samantha and Alexa Rowland, and Bobby Pasquale; great-grandchildren Kodiak, Jace and Keegan O'Ravez; daughter-in-law Stephanie Rowland; and sister Marquerite (Hank) Hirschel of Port Angeles.
His parents, brothers, Orivelle and Carol, and his son, Jeffrey Rowland, preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held Nov. 20.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael's United Methodist Church in Lake Havasu City, the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
