Marvin O. Aaron

Marvin O. Aaron died in his Sequim home at age 83.
He was born in Hulbert, Okla., to Lew Bert and Anna Alamedia (McKellar) Aaron. He lived in Tulsa, Okla., until 1936, when the family moved to Los Angeles.
He served with the Navy during World War II, rising to and boatswain's mate second class.
After the war, Mr. Aaron moved to Vancouver, Wash.
He married
the former Frances Roberta Erickson in Vancouver on Oct. 14, 1949.
In 1954, the couple moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where Mr. Aaron was a truck driver for Sandia National Laboratories until he retired in 1980.
He and his wife, who survives him, moved to Sequim in 1998.

Charles M. Applegate

Charles M. Applegate died in his Sequim home at age 87.

Melchor Kasko Gloria Jr.
Nov. 29, 1924 -- Dec. 2, 2004
Melchor Kasko Gloria Jr. died in Port Angeles at age 80.
He was born in Juneau, Alaska, to Melchor and Lucy (Kasko) Gloria.
During World War II, he served in the Army with the 11th Airborne Division, Company C, 187th Para-Glider Infantry. Later, he served with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, Company E, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
Mr. Gloria was cannery foreman of New England Fish Co. in Alaska for 27 years. He belonged to the American Legion of Kodiak.
He lived in Kodiak for 30 years before moving to Port Angeles in 1994 to be closer to family members.
Mr. Gloria enjoyed spending time with is grandchildren and cooking.
His survivors include sons Sonny, Mario, Raymond, Blake, Amando and Francisco Gloria and John Watson; daughters Vanessa, Melinda and Michelle Gloria; brothers Louis and Robert Gloria; sisters Dee Walton, Mable Tabernilla, Irene Manson, Isabelle Cheet and Betty Burch; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons David and Tommy Gloria; brothers Philip and Fred Gloria; and sisters Juanita Monsen, Pauline Gloria, Clarissa Gloria, Lilly Giacometti, Fran Beck and Cecelia Gloria.
Services: Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1 p.m., funeral in the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Center, 2851 Lower Elwha Road, Port Angeles. A reception will follow. The Rev. Darlene Hales will officiate.
Monday, Dec. 13, 2 p.m., inurnment with military honor guard in Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 SE 24th St., Kent.

Ethel Virginia Whitehead

Ethel Virginia Whitehead died of congestive heart failure in her Forks home. She was 94.
Born to John Acey and Grace Aletta (Anderson) Fraker in Forks, where she lived for 75 years, she graduated from Forks High School in 1929.
She married
Ellsworth Burdett Whitehead on Aug. 14, 1929, in Port Angeles.
Mrs. Whitehead enjoyed nature while camping, hunting, fishing, clam-digging, gardening and bird-feeding.
She belonged to the Quilayute Valley Grange, Bogachiel Garden Club and Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as lifetime membership in the West End Sportsman Club.
Mrs. Whitehead's survivors include sons James E. and Ellsworth V. Whitehead; daughters Shirley G. Sharpes, Marvel M. Blevins and Sue E. Hensen; sister Evelyn V. Parker; 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Jacqualine J. Parker; and brothers Eugene V. Fraker, Elmer V. Fraker, E. Verne Fraker and Earl V. Fraker.

RALPH (SKIP) STANLEY KNAPP
Ralph (Skip) Stanley Knapp, 67, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at his home in Sequim due to heart failure.
He was born in Whitehouse, Ohio, where he attended Anthony Wayne High School; he excelled in academics and baseball.
After high school, Ralph spent two years in the Army, before returning to Ohio where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Geology from Bowling Green State University.
His first jobs took him to California, Wyoming and Alaska, where he was in charge of a geodetic survey ship off the Alaska coast.
During Ralph's tenure with Western Geophysical, he was transferred to Pakistan, where he met his wife, Grace. Ralph later returned to Alaska with his wife, Grace, where they lived until a year ago, when they moved to Sequim.
Ralph was a great sports enthusiast who loved the Cleveland Indians, the Browns and the Bowling Green Falcons.
Ralph was a devoted and conscientious man, with all the traits that any family would love to have. Everyone who knew him can recall his sound and mature presence, integrity, as well as his kindness and his wit.
Ralph had infinite patience, was creative with tasks, and touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Ralph is survived by his wife Grace, son Christopher, brother Dick and family, sister Carol and family, and many other relatives and friends.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Fannie and Ralph Sr.
His memorial service was held Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Sequim Valley Chapel.

Dorothea Lily `Dorie' Campbell

Port Townsend resident Dorothea Lily ``Dorie" Campbell died of cancer. She was 63.
She was born in San Francisco to William and Merle Edna (Fehr) Campbell.
Ms. Campbell, who was a past president of the Retired Teachers Association, taught school in Granite Falls for two years and in Seattle for 28 years.
She was active in Centrum, Tri-Area Garden Club and Habitat for Humanity, as well as being a docent for the Rothschild House.
She was known for her Tuesday Lunches with Dorie that were open to all who enjoyed the food and fellowship.
Ms. Campbell is survived by her mother, Merle Edna Fehr-Backman, and brother and sister-in-law Merle and Dolli Plummer, all of Cottage Grove, Ore.; brothers Jennings W. Campbell of Port Townsend, Alan Backman of Fairbanks, Alaska, Charles H. Backman Jr. of Salmon Creek, and David Backman of Gladstone, Ore.; sisters Barbara Hahn of Vancouver, Wash., and Diane Hokhanson of Woodland.
She was preceded in death by her father and by her former husband, Donald Jeffery Nelson.
Services: Memorial will be announced later. Her ashes will be placed in the waters off Port Townsend.

Melchar K. Gloria Jr. died in Port Angeles at age 80.

Shirley Griffiths

Sequim resident Shirley Griffiths died in Port Angeles of a heart attack at age 80.
She was born in Sequim to Clarence W. and Nell (Mergatroid-Alsop) Taylor.
She and her husband, Severin F. Raaum, were married
in their SunLand home at Sequim on Dec. 16, 1999.
Ms. Griffiths is survived by her husband; sons and daughter-in-law Brandel and Elaine Sundt and Mark and Leilani Sundt; brother and sister-in-law Robert A. and Audry Taylor; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services: Monday, Dec. 6, memorial at 1 p.m. in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles. The Rev. Charlie Mays will officiate. A reception at the church will follow the service.

Eugene C. `Bud' Reader
June 9, 1920 -- Nov. 30, 2004
Sequim resident Eugene C. ``Bud" Reader died in Olympic Medical Center of pneumonia. He was 84.
He was born in Bellflower, Calif., to Phillip and Henrietta (Shook) Reader.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He married
Dorothea Pryor in Los Angeles on July 21, 1945.
Mr. Reader was a cement mason and general superintendent for D.L. Godbey Construction in California before he and his family moved to Sequim in 1976.
He enjoyed animals, landscaping, water skiing and fishing.
Mr. Reader was a member of Laborers International Union of North America Local 307 and the Lakewood, Calif., Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include sons Michael C. Reader and Timothy S. Reader and daughters Carol D. Reader and Teri Reader, all of Sequim; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His wife died Aug. 31, 2003.
Services: Monday, Dec. 6, visitation from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, 108 W. Alder St.; Tuesday, Dec. 7, funeral at the same location. Earl Rice will officiate. Burial will be in Sequim View cemetery.
