Carol Jean Henson

Sequim resident Carol Jean Henson died of cancer at age 72.
She was born in Cokato, Minn., to Oscar and Aina (Anderson) Kivi.
She married
O. Roy Henson on Dec. 8, 1956, in Las Vegas.
Mrs. Henson worked as a secretary. At retirement, she moved from California to Sequim, where she became a member of Dungeness Community Church
Mrs. Henson's survivors include her husband and daughter Diana Grossbohlin, both of Sequim; daughter Lisa Margaron of Lodi, Calif.; brothers Jerry, John, Kenny, LeRoy, Gordon and Russ Kivi, all of Minnesota; sister Mary Jane Gruhner of Arizona; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by brother Phil and sisters Ruth and Lorraine.
Services: Friday, Dec. 17, 10 a.m., memorial in Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane, Sequim. The Revs. Neil Smith and Scott Culver will officiate.
Memorials: Donations to Peniel Mission Inc., Building Repair Project, P.O. Box 66016 Stockton, Calif. 95206. The family requests no flowers.
Carol Joy Nall
Oct. 1, 1937 -- Dec. 12, 2004
Carol Joy Nall died of cancer in her Port Angeles home. She was 67.
She was born in Mena, Ark., to Frank and Ruby Firn (Saddler) Dalton.
She married
Charles Richard Nall in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He died Feb. 19, 2003.
Mrs. Nall's survivors include sons Charles and Frank Nall and daughters Cherie Nall and Kathy Nelson, all of Port Angeles; sister Verla Jean Kernes of Cypress, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Services: Friday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m., memorial Mass in Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles. The Rev. Kurt Nagel will officiate. Inurnment will be in Grand Mound cemetery at Grand Mound.

Gail L. Garbrick
March 28, 1941 -- Dec. 11, 2004
Gail L. Garbrick of Sequim died in Port Angeles at age 63.

Elizabeth Nellie Cutter Bass
Dec. 12, 1910 -- Dec. 1, 2004
Elizabeth Nellie Cutter Bass died in Crestwood Convalescent Center, Port Angeles, at age 93.
She was born in Kansas City, Mo., to Rolla Lamar and Nellie Francis (Carey) Cutter. In her younger years, she was a ballet dancer and teacher.
She married
Gifford Elam Bass in Liberty, Mo., on Dec. 17, 1932.
Mrs. Bass was an administrator/clerk for an insurance company in Kansas City until 1934, when she became a homemaker.
While her children were young, Mrs. Bass was active in Cub Scouts, Sylvan Grade School and PTA. Using her shorthand and typing skills, she served as secretary for many groups.
In the 1950s, when her husband was president of the National Office Managers Association, she managed the chapter's day-to-day activities, corresponding with other chapters and the national office.
Throughout her life, she also was careful to keep in touch with family and friends through personal letter-writing.
Mrs. Bass, who loved music, not only enjoyed the Arthur Godfrey radio show and classical records, but insisted her son take violin and piano lessons.
In addition to making her home in Portland, Ore., for 40 years, Mrs. Bass lived in Minnesota and California before moving to Port Angeles 15 years ago.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and United Ostomy Association.
Survivors include son Jim Bass and his wife of Annapolis, Md.; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Wiley Kehrle of Poulsbo; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her newborn son, Thomas Elam Bass, died June 21, 1942. She was also preceded in death by her husband, brother James Cutter and sister Marguerite deWatteville.
Services: Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1:30 p.m., celebration of life and reception in First Baptist Church, Sixth and Laurel streets, Port Angeles. The Rev. George Boudet will officiate. Inurnment will be in Findley's Sunset Hills, Portland, Ore.

Tawny Karlene Johnson
Jan. 8, 1972 -- Dec. 4, 2004
Makah tribal member Tawny Karlene Johnson died in her Port Angeles home at age 32. Cause of death is pending.
She was born in Port Angeles to Anthony and Karen (Butticci) Johnson.
Ms. Johnson participated on area baseball, basketball and volleyball teams.
She lived in Mount Vernon in 1987-90, then returned to Port Angeles, where she worked at the Lower Elwha Tribal Center until she became disabled.
Ms. Johnson was devoted to raising her daughters. She also enjoyed camping.
She is survived by daughters Samantha Hoines and Savannah Johnson, mother and stepfather Karen and Jerry Beck, sister and brother-in-law Sonya and Matthew Davis, sister Darcey Beck, stepbrother Luke Beck, stepsister Miranda Beck, stepsister and stepbrother-in-law Mandy and Wayne King and half-brother Mack Johnson, all of Port Angeles; father Anthony Johnson of Seattle; and half-brother Anthony Johnson Jr. and half-sister Dana Johnson, both of Tacoma.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Leslie and Edna Shore and Susan Johnson.
Services: Monday, Dec. 14, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., visitation in Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, immediately preceding the 11 a.m. funeral in the same location. The Rev. Ben Charles will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
Dinner will follow at the Lower Elwha Tribal Center, 2851 Lower Elwha Road, Port Angeles.

Ardith Raymond

Ardith Raymond died in her Sequim home at age 34.

Gerald Clyde Akin
July 22, 1935 -- Dec. 6, 2004
Neah Bay resident Gerald Clyde Akin died of a heart attack at age 69.
He was born in Auburn to Gerald Elanson and Eva Marie (Hunter) Akin and graduated from Neah Bay High School in 1955.
Mr. Akin, who served as a communications specialist in the Army in 1955-58, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
On the Peninsula, he worked with the Makah tribe's water department and as a shake bolter and logger.
In addition to spending time with his grandchildren, he enjoyed the outdoors, working on cars and stockcar races.
He married
Joan Carol Cook in Port Angeles on Aug. 25, 1967.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Akin's survivors, all of Neah Bay, include sons Jerry A. Akin, Greg O. Akin, Dale W. Akin Sr. and Michael J. Akin; daughter Dorothy G. Akin; and brother Robert Akin; plus sister Florence Kegger of Marysville; 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Services: Saturday, Dec. 11, family visitation from 10 a.m. to noon and public visitation from noon to 4 p.m. in the Assembly of God Church, Third and Fort streets, Neah Bay. Potluck in the Community Hall will follow the services.

George Rae Bosckis
April 22, 1935 -- Dec. 7, 2004
Sequim resident George Rae Bosckis died in Port Angeles due to a brain tumor at age 69.
Born in Seattle, he was the son of Antone and Pearl Estelle (Swails) Bosckis.
He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1954, then attended Wenatchee Valley College.
Mr. Bosckis was employed by the Boeing Co., Seattle, in 1956-70 as an inspector and supervisor in quality assurance.
Later, he was a quality assurance manager with Western Gear Corp. (later Lucas Aerospace) in Jamestown, N.D.
He was operations manager for Flameco Engineering, Ogden, Utah, in 1991-93, after which he moved to Sequim and did occasional consulting work.
Mr. Bosckis was a member of American Society for Quality.
He married
Marilyn Louise Heller on Oct. 4, 1957.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son Michael Bosckis and daughter Lynne Stark, all of Sequim; daughter Dara Bosckis of Port Angeles; sisters Ethelda ``Tillie" Burke of Everett and Evelyn Brothers of Fort Collins, Colo.; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by sister Hazel Schuster.

Forks resident Edward L. Cassell died at age 79.

Margaret Fern Hopkins

Former Peninsula resident Margaret Fern Hopkins died in Colorado Springs, Colo., at age 77.
She was born in Fargo, N.D.
She married
William James Hopkins; he died July 27, 2002.
Mrs. Hopkins lived in Sekiu in 1950-2000 and in Port Angeles from 2000-2003, when she moved to Colorado Springs, Colo.
Survivors include sons Jim of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bill of Pasco, Lee of Chandler, Ariz., and John of Port Townsend; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services: Friday, Dec. 10, 11 a.m., inurnment in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles. Olympic Cremation Association is in charge of burial.
Carol Marie Hoveskeland
Dec. 25, 1945 -- Dec. 4, 2004
Port Angeles resident Carol Marie Hoveskeland died at age 58.
She was born in Walla Walla to Harold and Janet (Hoffman) Huber.
She married
Steven M. Hoveskeland on Dec. 14, 1985, in their Port Angeles home.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hoveskeland's survivors include daughters Dee Janssen of Sequim, Colleen Chesire of Florida and Barbara Teneyck of Arizona; stepdaughters Kim Hoveskeland and Stacie Almaden, both of Port Angeles; stepsons Scott Hoy of Everett and Jason Spencer Hoveskeland of Tukwila; mother of Colfax; three sisters; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her father.
