SIOBHAN FRANCES JOY SEGUR
Siobhan Frances Joy Segur died suddenly Thursday night at Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital in Portland. She was 16.
She died peacefully in her parents' arms.
Siobhan and her parents, Kim Watts Segur and Brett Segur, lived in Port Angeles from 1995 to 2003.
Siobhan attended Monroe Elementary and was in Maria White's Special Needs Class.
She was light and love and touched many people's hearts. She is now free to sing and dance with the Angels.
Jack Melvin Bell
Aug. 2, 1923 -- Feb. 23, 2005
Port Angeles resident Jack Melvin Bell died at age 81.
He was adopted in Chicago by Edward Thomas and Kathleen (Reick) Bell, then grew up in Sequim before graduating from high school in Clallam Bay in 1941.
Shortly after graduation, he joined the Navy, saw action in the South Pacific during World War II, and later in life enjoyed swapping war stories.
Mr. Bell married
Lillian June Nicholas in Port Angeles on Dec. 29, 1945.
He was a member of the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers and of the Masonic Lodge.
In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed walking his dog.
He and his family made numerous trips to Canada.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Edward and Diane Bell of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Marlene and David Renfrow of Sparks, Nev.; sister-in-law Pat Parks of Port Angeles; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
His wife of 54 years died in October 2000.
Services: Private inurnment in Mount Angeles Memorial Park. Olympic Cremation Association is in charge.
Raymond George Jankowski
Dec. 17, 1937 -- Feb. 21, 2005
Sequim resident Raymond George Jankowski died in Port Angeles at age 67.
He was born in Omaha, Neb., to Frank and Elizabeth (Gunia) Jankowski.
He served with the Army, in 1956-58, and was discharged as a specialist third class.
Mr. Jankowski was a supervisor who retired after 30 years at the Daishowa paper mill in Port Angeles.
He also worked at 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn during his retirement.
He was a member of Little Brown Church of Blyn.
His marriage to Shirley O'Neal in Las Vegas in January 1966 ended with her death in 1986.
A marriage to Sydney Jackson in 1990 ended in divorce; however, the two remained close friends.
Survivors include sons Ron Englehard and Ken Englehard, both of California; sister Katherine Ann Meckna of Omaha, Neb.; brother Joe Jankowski of Omaha; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Joe Jankowski.

Carl Erik Ovesen
Jan. 24, 1928 -- Feb. 18, 2005
Carl Erik Ovesen, 77, of Sequim died of cardiac arrest in Port Angeles.
He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Christian and Ida (Moler) Ovesen.
He sailed with the Merchant Marine as a seaman electrician, and was a member of the marine/fireman's union.
Before coming to Sequim, Mr. Ovesen lived in San Pedro, Calif., and Las Vegas.
Mr. Ovesen was divorced from Sunny, his first wife, and survived by Leslie, whom he married
on April 26, 1995.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ovesen's survivors include son Claus Ovesen of Salem, Ore.; adopted son Michael Young of Poulsbo; daughters Laurie Willey of Astoria, Ore., and Lena Perry of San Pedro, Calif.; adopted daughters Lisa Matulich of San Pedro, Calif., and Ann Walsh of Carlsbad, Calif.; brother Hans Christian Ovesen of Sweden; sister Lise Smith of Denmark; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Edwin M. `Bud' White
Jan. 2, 1922 -- Feb. 19, 2005
Dungeness resident Edwin M. ``Bud" White died of respiratory arrest in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles. He was 83.
Born in Wood River, Neb., to Edward and Mae (Mansir) White, he graduated from high school in North Platte, Neb., in 1940.
He then enlisted in the Army and served five years with the infantry in the European Theater of World War II.
Mr. White, who was a member of the typographical union, was employed in a variety of positions during his working years, the last being that of composing room foreman in the newspaper industry.
His first marriage was to Maude Patterson. She preceded him in death.
He married
Vivian (Peterson) Carsrud in San Jose, Calif., on Aug. 23, 1967.
In 1980 he retired and moved to Sequim.
Mr. White enjoyed fishing, traveling in his recreational venhcle and watching the wildlife at his home.
He belonged to the Elks Lodge.
In addition to his wife, Mr. White's survivors include stepsons David Carsrud of Port Angeles and Roger Carsrud of San Jose, Calif.; stepdaughters Carolyn Payne and Barbara Donnelly, both of Prineville, Ore; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Jean White of Richland; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brother Maynard White.

Robert A Smith

Robert A. Smith died Sunday at Crestwood Convalescent Center in Port Angeles.

Edith Mary Engman
March 23, 1930 -- Feb. 23, 2005
Edith Mary Engman died in Sequim at age 74.

Emmabelle Gooding
July 11, 1925 -- Feb. 12, 2005
Forks resident Emmabelle Gooding died of cancer at age 79.
She was born in Ekalaka, Mont., to Orville Sylvester and Emma Ulela (Jackson) Boggs and lived in Forks, to where she moved as a child, for most of her life.
She married
Fred Gooding in 1942 or 1943. He died June 29, 1991.
In addition to working as a clerk at Coast to Coast store in Forks for 11 years, Mrs. Gooding volunteered at the Forks Visitors Center and, for more than 20 years, at Forks Food Bank.
She was an avid reader and crocheted hundreds of doilies for her friends.
Mrs. Gooding is survived by daughter Linda Palmer and son Robert, both of Forks, and son Larry of Kalama; sisters Peggy Beach and Jackie Beach, both of Spokane; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Thomas J. Kelly
April 23, 1916 -- Feb. 22, 2005
Former Sequim resident Thomas J. Kelly died in Lacey at age 88.

BOB DEAN GRANSBURY `Cowboy'
Bob Dean Gransbury, 50, of Lacey died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
Mr. Gransbury was born April 14, 1954, in Burley, Idaho, to Robert J. and Geraldine Rae (Hatton) Miller.
Bob is survived by his girlfriend, Donna Dube; his parents; three daughters, Rachel Wilhelm, Catrina Duncan and Rebecca Gransbury; brother Casey Gransbury; sister Lisa Cuellar; and one grandchild, Wesley Ryan Duncan.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005.

Sequim resident Gil Ehrlich died at Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center at age 96.

Helga Sophia Lassus
Jan. 10, 1921 -- Feb. 18, 2005
Port Angeles resident Helga Sophia Lassus died of a stroke at Olympic Medical Center. She was 84.
She was born in Oravais, Finland, to Mikel and Ester (Widd) Holm.
She married
Ragnar F. Lassus in Karvat, Finland, on May 16, 1954. He died Nov. 5, 1988.
Mrs. Lassus was a postal worker in Karvat. In Port Angeles, she was a caregiver and housewife.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting, crocheting and playing bingo. She loved traveling back to Finland.
Mrs. Lassus belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and to the Order of Runeberg.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Glenn R. and Tracey Lassus.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Rafael Holm, Ernst Holm and Holger Holm.
Services: Sunday, Feb. 27, 2 p.m., memorial service in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles. The Rev. Charles Mays will officiate.
