Hazel Louise Sprague
Oct. 15, 1904 -- Dec. 7, 2004
A memorial service has been announced for former Port Angeles resident Hazel Louise Sprague, 100, who died in Edmonds.
Service: Saturday, March 19, 1 p.m., memorial at Bethany Pentecostal Church, Fifth and Francis streets, Port Angeles.
Wanda Eloise Hamel
July 12, 1917 -- March 4, 2005
Wanda Eloise Hamel died of respiratory failure in Sequim at age 87.
She was born in Myrtle Point, Ore., to Pearly and Stella (Harry) Crowley.
She married
C. Howard Hamel in Gravelford, Ore., on Sept. 4, 1939.
Mrs. Hamel held a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
She also served as an education missionary in Pakistan, translating English teaching materials into the Urdu language for village schools.
She belonged to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sequim.
Survivors include son John E. Hamel of Sequim; daughter Marie E. Macri of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband died March 7, 1994. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Services: Saturday, March 19, 3:30 p.m., memorial in Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane. Pastor Larry McCombs will officiate. Burial will be in Sheridan, Ore.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Cora Myrtle Harris
June 28, 1905 -- March 12, 2005
Port Angeles resident Cora Myrtle Harris died of natural causes at age 99.
She was born in Russleville, Okla., to Barney Fulsom and Minnie Pearlie (Willis) Allison.
She attended elementary and high schools in Lindsey, Okla., where she married
Charles Otho Harris on Feb. 8, 1922. He died Nov. 30, 1989.
Mrs. Harris was a homemaker and worked as a cook at California State University, Fresno.
She lived in several cities in California, before moving to Port Angeles.
Mrs. Harris enjoyed homemaking, knitting, gardening, farming, church and family. She helped raise one great-granddaughter.
She belonged to First United Methodist and Congregational Church in Port Angeles.
Survivors include daughters Helen Gould of Whittier, Calif., and Vivian Dooley of Port Angeles; sisters Fay Stewart, Stella Cook and Marie Siler, all of California; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Services: Wednesday, March 16, 1 p.m., memorial at First United Methodist and Congregational Church of Port Angeles, 110 E. Seventh St. The Rev. John Maxwell will officiate.
Graveside service at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno, Calif., on Wednesday, March 23, 1 p.m. Her son-in-law, the Rev. Ken Dooley of Port Angeles, will officiate.

Eugene E. Kaul
Sept. 27, 1928 -- March 14, 2005
Eugene E. Kaul died of age-related causes in his Sequim home at age 76.
He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Lester C. and Eunice B. (McBride) Kaul.
Mr. Kaul served as a staff sergeant in mechanics at Air Force bases in Alaska and Florida in 1948-52.
He married
Mary E. Atkinson in Cocoa, Fla., on June 6, 1952.
As a civilian, Mr. Kaul continued working in mechanics, mostly in sales, in Tacoma and in California, including 27 years with Leviton Manufacturing Co. in Los Angeles and Fresno, Calif.
Mr. Kaul, who was a member of First Baptist Church, was a musician who enjoyed church choir participation as well as barbershop singing with the Tacoma Totemaires.
He was also a Boy Scout leader in Tacoma, coached Little League baseball, played golf, researched genealogy and collected antiques.
Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters-in-law James M. and Lynn Kaul and Gene E. and Deb Kaul; daughters and sons-in-law Leslie and Rick Burkhaulter, Judy and Charlie Sanner and Sandra and Mike Fish; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother Michael John Kaul.
Services: Saturday, March 19, 1 p.m., celebration of life at First Baptist Church, 105 W. Sixth St., Port Angeles. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Orveal G. Pottorff
Oct. 14, 1930 -- March 12, 2005
Orveal G. Pottorff died of natural causes in Port Angeles at age 74.
He was born in Westfield, Iowa, and is survived by his wife Jackolene Baird of Port Angeles.

McCoy Smith
Nov. 15, 1923 -- March 12, 2005
McCoy Smith died of cancer at his Sequim home. He was 81.
He was born in Jasper, Ala., to Moford and Fanny Arlena (Nix) Smith.
He married
Nancy Jarmuth in Portland, Ore., on March 15, 1944.
Mr. Smith owned and operated Straits Farm (now Graysmarsh Farm), was part-owner of Smith and Sprague appliance store in Sequim, and sold cars at Gray Motors Inc. in Port Angeles.
An avid golfer, he was men's club champion at SunLand for several years and was Clallam County golf champion several times. He also enjoyed watching football.
Survivors include his wife of Sequim; sons Lance Smith of Port Angeles and Larry Smith of Green Valley, Ariz.; daughters Cheryl Frankfurth, Rochelle McHugh and Pam Walker, all of Sequim, and Diane Pollard of Woodinville; brothers Leon Smith of Vancouver, Wash., and Asa Smith of Sequim; sisters Eunice Petersen of Bellevue, Tallah Johnson of Penn Valley, Calif., Nancy Yeowell of Poulsbo and Leola Simmons of Tigard, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services: Thursday, March 17, 11 a.m., graveside service at Dungeness cemetery. Reception follows at Twin Oaks Condominium community room, 300 N. Sequim-Dungeness Way.

Jayne Bradley Wiegert
May 30, 1912 -- March 2, 2005
Former Port Angeles resident Jayne Bradley Wiegert died in Olympia at age 92.
She was born to Wilbert John and Jesse Maude (Burkett) Bradley in Wisconsin, where she married
Kurt Wiegert before World War II.
They and their three children moved to Port Angeles in the late 1940s.
The couple owned a grocery store, a Pittsburgh Paints store and later an A&W drive-in in Port Angeles.
She belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
The Wiegerts left Port Angeles after retirement in the 1970s, moving to Olympia and Ardona.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Judith and Dean Bouffiou of Olympia and Lynne and Michael Phillips of Canada; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by son Kenneth.
Services: Mrs. Wiegert's ashes will be scattered over the ocean off Bamfield, British Columbia, in Vancouver Island, where her husband's ashes were scattered. No services were announced.
Bleitz Funeral Home, Seattle, is in charge of arrangements.

MARGITA ELIZABETH SATTERLEE
Margita Satterlee, September 20, 1941, left our earthly confines to start her new adventures on March 10, 2005.
Margita is survived by her loving husband and life partner of 39 years, David; devoted daughters Erika Kanzler and Sara Satterlee; Erika's two children Zackery and Ariel; Sara's daughter Vanessa Radke; and sisters Irja Groset and Gun-Marie Abajian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Ann-Marie Nilsson, and nephew Jon Groset.
Born in Umea, Sweden, Margita immigrated with her parents and two sisters in 1954. Coming to New York harbor by ship, they were one of the first immigrant families that were not required to enter through Ellis Island.
The family made their way across the country toward Alaska, where her father planned to settle. Upon reaching the Pacific Northwest with its rich Scandinavian influence and people, they decided to make their home in Port Angeles.
Margita graduated from high school in Port Angeles before moving to Seattle, where she met her future husband, David.
Margita and Dave were longtime residents of West Seattle, where they raised their two daughters.
``Gita" was an artist of extreme talent and creativity. She loved sewing and crafts of any kind. Even while raising two very active girls, she transformed her old house in Seattle into a pearl of elegance.
In 1999, when Margita and Dave moved to their new home on the Olympic Peninsula, she relished in the building of ``Casa Costa Mucho, " leading family members to remember her as Martha of Dabob.
Her real passion however was her grandchildren. She was the ultimate Mor-Mor (mother's mother in Swedish). Her heart had no limits, and it seemed that any child she came in contact with could sense that.

Edwina L. Frame
April 20, 1923 -- March 12, 2005
Longtime Port Angeles resident Edwina L. Frame died of age-related causes at age 81.
She was born in Barnesville, Minn., to Edward and Mabel (Johnson) Moll.
Her marriages included Jack Hagen, whom she married
in Port Angeles and who died in 1960, and Dean Frame, who died July 4, 1979.
She was a registered nurse before her retirement.
Mrs. Frame was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
Survivors include son John Hagen of Federal Way, sister Esther Ellefson of Port Angeles and three grandchildren.
